If it's ur birthday u get to choose 3 ice cream flavors for ur banana split. My first time hitting this Michoacán. Pine nut, vanilla raisin and nuez pecan with whipped cream, slivered almonds, pineapple and chocolate sauce. It was an original creation. I'll be back soon. Pine nut is a bizarre flavor we had to have because where else are u gonna get some!?

Honestly, can't believe I drove past this place so often and didn't realize it's worth as an ice cream lover. It's truly a hidden gem! I got a milkshake and they scooped a decent amount of ice cream making the consistency nice and thick. There's so many ice cream options, including fun ones like chocolate abuelita, Nutella, almond, cheesecake, and pecan. They definitely make it difficult to walk out without grabbing a popsicle as there's just so many flavors such as fresca con crema, sweet caramel, cajeta, guava, coconut, strawberry, etc. They even do double flavors with the two halves of a popsicle. In the same freezer are chocolate covered bananas!! It's super cute, there's so much variety. There's the popsicles, the ice cream, agua fresca, mangonada, and sundaes. They allowed samples for the agua fresca and it was delicious. The parking lot is fairly large as it's located in mini shopping area next to the Walgreens. The service was good as we were treated politely. Now that I know this place exists, I'm definitely stopping by whenever it's on my route. Gotta try everything that they have !!

I think I found my favorite after dinner dessert place in Baton Rouge. We tried three different flavors. Coconut, mango, and caramel. All three were extremely good and refreshing. If I can only pick one I think I would go with the caramel. But it's hard to choose. They have many flavors. Dairy and non-dairy.

Popaletas Michoacán is a great place to get your frozen treats! They specialize in popsicles and house-made ice cream. They are conveniently located at the junction of Sherwood Forest Blvd. and Coursey Blvd., so they are easy to visit. When you enter the establishment, you will be greeted by its clean bright interior. To your right facing the front is the popsicle case. This is a good place to start! They have a great variety of popsicles, involving frozen fruits, creamy concoctions, and intriguing additions! These even include Oreos frozen into select varieties. These come served with a paper tray below their stick to help keep you clean as you enjoy their cold lusciousness. Maybe you want ice cream or sorbet? Walk back to the case and see the flavors available. They will be glad to offer you tasting spoons to help with your decision. They are all pretty awesome in their own way. I personally prefer the Key Lime Pie, but I'm still trying to try all the other flavors... ice cream can be served in bowls, cones, and in any mixture you desire. After choosing your ice cream, you can add toppings to make your own creation even better. They also have a variety of frozen drinks. These are an area I haven't had enough experience with yet, but I can say that they look great! This is a decidedly different and unique place to get your frozen desserts and snacks. Drop by and see what kind of treat you can give yourself!

A haiku for review: "new shop on Burbank/ support your local business/ Tasty summer treat." I was very excited to find this store in Baton Rouge, and was even more excited to see that there was a new location close to LSU campus! Everyone was very sweet and nice, and the paletas were absolutely delicious. Catch me there this summer writing a haiku about every single flavor.

My go to for PALETAS and HOMEMADE ICE CREAM. Best ice cream in town!!! My favorite paletas are the GUAVA and WATERMELON which has the fruit chunks inside. Unfortunately, I did not like the purple grape flavor since it only tasted like sugar water but I can easily forget about that because all the other stuff is soooo good!! They have a great variety of both the paletas (popsicles) and homemade ice cream. (Also a great selection for toppings and other options like milk shakes and sundaes) .It's exciting to drop in once in a while because they sometimes change up the flavors of the ice cream (like Mardi Gras King Cake flavor ice cream). One of my most favorite is the KEY LIME PIE ice cream on a sugar cone. So yummy!!!! My husband loves the FRESA (strawberry) ice cream in a cup and the fresa paleta which is a classic!!! The MANGONADA is also so yummy when I'm craving both salty and sweet. The staff is always so friendly and very helpful. The place is always clean considering everybody gets messy and sticky with yummy ice cream!!

Christmas Mangonada! Delicious!!

I have been to Popaletas four times, yet I have only gotten a milkshake, WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME!! A wicked display of will power that's what. However, that doesn't keep me from knowing that the frozen treats here are irresistible. A very unique thing that is so amazing is that the majority of the food served here is made in house. The ice cream, the fruit and ice cream pop sickles, the waffle cones and bowls, all made right before your eyes, well at least the waffle foods, other stuff is done in the back behind secretly locked doors with armed guards. Enough BS, back to the review. The milk shake I had was a little too liquid for my taste in shakes. The taste was there, don't get me wrong. The mangonada is one of my families favorites and it is spicy tasty. The chamoy sauce and the chilie dulce are a great tangy contrast to the sweet mango sorbet. More eye catching treats are the ice cream popsicles. Various flavors that have entire real Oreos, lush slices of strawberry, cereals, granola, and so many more. A multitude of ice cream flavors to put on waffle cones or just cups. Also numerous topping to choose from for a very small (29 cents per) price. I am pleased with he prices as well. Not too pricey, in my opinion. Great flavor, great people working there, go get some sweet stuff.

Mangonada

Best refresqueria and one of the only ones in Baton Rouge. Ordered a mangonada and it tasted 10/10. Total came to around $6 for a small. Worth the money. Super refreshing, salty, and sweet. Perfect if you like chamoy, tajin, and mango.

Paletas!

We always tend to find the best places spontaneously and this paleta place is one of them! I kid you not I spotted this place at the corner of my eye and we had to give it a try. When you walk in its like a kid in a candy shop, variety of paletas or similar to popsicles. We tried the strawberry crème and spicy mango along with a order of large elotes in a cup! The paletas blew my mind, the strawberry crème tasted so fresh and the crème wasn't overly sweeet. The strawberry in the paletas wasn't tart but very sweet and it complimented the creaminess of the crème its paired with. The spicy mango was amazing as well which it literally tasted like a mangonada (spicy mango frozen drink) but in a popsicle. It was rather sweeter then a mangonada but still had actual taste of non artificial mango or ingredients in it. The elote was amazing, elote is something I have not had much of in Louisiana and I usually get in Dallas every once in a while. Popalet's elote reminded me of the ones I got in Dallas if not better! Elote consists of cheese, lots of mayonnaise, spicy chili seasoning, and corn I believe and it really took my taste buds to town eating this delicious creation. This is definitely a gem to me and I highly recommend to anyone wanting a great place for dessert or some food as well!

We are literally kids in a candy store at this very moment at Popaletas Michoacan. This place is bright, clean, and has a wide variety of treats for all. The popsicle case is the first thing you will see when walking inside. It will draw you in with inviting flavors which include dairy and non dairy selections. We selected the ice cream scoop in a waffle bowl today and it satisfied every craving we had. The show stopper is that these folks serve ELOTES! I may just skip breakfast and lunch tomorrow for an opportunity to eat that delicious corn treat! We will be back sooner rather than later!
