Went to lunch here with coworkers because it is near my office downtown. The seasoned ground beef enchilada was ok but I've had better. The salsa was good and had a little spice to it. The rice didn't have much flavor nor did the beans. The food wasn't bad, but there is better Mexican in Baton Rouge. read more

I just ordered Quesadillas from you through MajorMenus. I honestly don't mind paying good money for good food. But, what I got was NOT at all close to being $18. I am really upset and will not be getting anything from you again. The attached is a photo of the food I got. I ate one small piece before taking the photo. This food is no where close to being worth $18. Too little food. Now, just to be fare, if I had gotten twice the amount of food, it may be worth that price. It tasted good enough. But for the quantity of food, it should be more like $5-7, plus a couple more for delivery. But this for $18 is outrageous. read more

We decided to give this restaurant a try since it was directly across the street from the hotel we stayed at and that was probably the worst mistake of our whole trip. We walk in and while it is not the best kept as far as appearance, we are seated almost immediately. As we were sitting down a nail from a taped up leg of the bench caught the leg of the other person I was dining with ripping a fairly large hole in his jeans. We got the waitresses attention and she sort of laughed as she explained that she had never experienced this and didn't know how to handle it being she was the only person working. We asked to move to another table and after being seated there she brought us a piece of paper to write our information on so the owner could contact us. She was unable to notify him then because he would not be in until Monday and she continued to explain how they rent the building and the landlord does not do repairs or maintenance. She reviews the information we wrote down and added the date and time so the owner could make sure to call us regarding the torn jeans. As she is tearing the paper from the note pad an extreme amount of spit comes out of her mouth and despite her efforts to catch it in her hand, it lands on the table. She then leaves our table without even acknowledging that it happened or attempting to clean it. She takes our drink order, we order a bowl of queso, and when she returns she also brings some smaller bowls for us to use for the queso. I unstack the two bowls, giving one to my friend and keeping one for myself but can't because the bowl I ended up with was dirty and had several pieces of leftover food stuck to the inside of it. I tell her that I was going to need another bowl and she seemed shocked that I had a problem with what she had already given me. She asks me what is wrong with it and rubs her fingers on the inside to imply there was nothing there. As she is walking away to get a new bowl, I stop her to tell her that we are just going to go because this experience is just not working out for us today. She gets very frustrated with us and makes a huffing sound and she throws her hands in the air and walks back to the table where she was also eating with another person. We thank her and apologize about not being able to handle anything else going wrong. I hope that the owner or at least the manager gives us a call so we can express our concerns in person but will not hold my breath. read more

Terrible food and terrible service. Avoid this place at all costs. I would make that s a 0 star review if I could. I ordered the appetizer sampler. The food was overcooked and greasy--it tasted as if it had been swept up from the kitchen floor then put into a tortilla with some melted cheese, and it lacked the variety promised on the menu. Too, I think the beef in my dish was spoiled--it tasted gamey. I took home my leftovers to feed to my dog, but when I opened the box to feed her, it smelled so bad that I just threw it out. I could have gotten better Mexican food at Taco Bell. The menu was also disappointing. It had few selections--I couldn't even get tacos if they weren't vegetarian--and the items were all hideously overpriced . Honestly, I should have just gotten up and left when I saw the disappointing choices, but it was hot and I didn't feel like having to find somewhere else to eat. The service was as bad as the food. When I arrived, it took over 2 minutes to get the hostess' attention although the place had few customers. After I pretty much showed myself to somewhere to sit, she returned to her hard job of playing on her phone and ignoring everyone. When I sat down, I had to ask for a menu and then get my own silverware when my food arrived. The waiter/bartender was busy chatting to people at the bar when he wasn't serving food to the few customers in the place--the hostess wasn't going to help him, that's for sure The only reason this place is still in business is because it is across the street from a hotel where unsuspecting guests can wander in and get overcharged for Mexican food that was less impressive than Taco Bell. read more

We had the absolute most lovely and attentive server. Truly one of the best servers we've ever experienced and the spinach and mushroom quesadilla was phenomenal. Pro tip: add chicken. read more

Well fellow yelpers..if any of you have been to downtown Baton Rouge during covid season, you already know that pickings are slim for dinner. Many places close really early so when I saw this Mexican place was open past sundown I was like ok...im winning. This place had fairly good reviews, so with limited options I was at their mercy. Out of 3 employees that I saw..only 1 had on a mask. It was fairly empty so it was easy to be seated away from others. One patron left her table without putting on a mask so at this point im thinking I gotta eat and get outta here. I had a taco plate. Hard tacos were really good..soft chicken taco wasnt my bag of tea. The rice and beans were really good but the portion size was like a sampling. Had a large mango margarita..average. If the rice n beans was a normal serving size and it wasnt during Covid, I would make my way here again. read more

I went to eat at this restaurant on a whim today with my friend and I am very glad I did. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the bartender, Hayden, and sat down at a booth. I am giving this place 4 stars because the food was good but the customer service was absolutely amazing. Hayden checked on us numerous times, let us enjoy our margaritas without rushing to put in an order, and gave us good insight on the menu and what customers seem to enjoy. I ordered the steak fajitas and my friend got the tilapia and we were both satisfied with our choices thanks to his advice. He was so friendly and personable that I plan to eat at this restaurant again because I know I'll have a decent meal and a friendly environment. As is the case with many Baton Rougians, I suspect, I haven't spent nearly enough time in downtown Baton Rouge. That's a shame, because there are some excellent restaurants down there and Aztecas is one of them. The wife and I wanted some Mexican and I wanted to change things up, so I got some take-out from Aztecas. I wish we had eaten in, because the restaurant has a hip and upbeat vibe inside. Definitely a place we'll come back to, to sit down in. Our food was excellent. Absolutely excellent. Three of went for lunch here today, 2 of us had steak quesadilla's they came with a small dollop of sour cream & a small dollop of guacamole we needed more so we got extra it was like $1 or$1.50 each but the guacamole was delicious ! My granddaughter got the tamales they were served coved with salsa verde and came a side of refried beans & rice. Azteca's is the place for Mexican food downtown. Located at the corner of Lafayette and Main, it is convenient for anyone in the downtown area. It has a classy contemporary decor, located in a historic building. The dishes are fresh, served attractively, and are priced decently considering the location. There have been some recent menu changes, and they seem to be for the better! The fish tacos are now blackened, and come with Mexican coleslaw and avocado slices on them. The salsa is also chunkier and spicier. They have really good burgers too, for those that don't feel like traditional Mexican fare. A new introduction to the menu is a grilled chicken burger. Azteca's is definitely a good choice, especially for lunch. Check it out if you are in the downtown area! read more

We stopped in for dinner because it was conveniently located right across the street from our hotel on a rainy evening. We are from Texas, so we didn't have high expectations for Mexican food in Louisiana, but we were impressed. Strong margaritas and average Mexican food - kind of sums up my read on this place. The chips and salsa are great, the Guac not so much. If I had to recommend entrees, I would probably end up picking either the fajitas or the blackened fish tacos, both are pretty decent. Very authentic restaurant. I went around 4pm and the restaurant was pretty slow so we were seated right away. Our food was bought out less than 10 minutes after we ordered. The server was extremely helpful and suggested the Azteca, so I ordered the Azteca with beef and queso, and it was very flavorful and yummy. Their chips and salsa were also very good as well. My niece likes this place and talked the rest of the family into trying it out on our weekly Fiesta Friday...Very glad we did!!! The place is small...cozy even but it's a nice locale and has an intimate feel... The hot sauce (salsa) was outstanding... sparky and flavorful!! Service was efficient and top notch...cocktails were reasonably priced and the margaritas were large!! The menu selection is diverse and will have something for everybody...I went with the ground beef enchiladas and they were large and some kinda tasty...the other 7 in the group all really enjoyed their specific orders... The only down side to this wonderful little restaurant is parking...make sure you have some cash and you can park in the Hampton Inn right across the street for $5 for 12 hours or take advantage of the parking garage catty-cornered from the restaurant...if your lucky you might find street parking... However don't let the parking situation deter you from trying this place out if in downtown Baton Rouge...I'm thinking you'll like it as much as me... read more

Man, this place is bangin'! I went in for a late lunch on a weekday for tacos and a margarita. The frozen margarita was of generous size and perfectly strong enough. I sat at the bar and the place wasn't busy at all. I got my tacos in less than ten minutes from sit to eat. I took my time since I didn't want to get a brain freeze from my delicious margarita. Watched some baseball on one of the two big screens I the bar area and enjoyed my tackle. They were a little more juicy than I normally like my ranchero chicken but just spicy enough. I got the same to go for the lady at home and it came quicker than the first order. The place seems like a nice place to stop in on a stroll during the weekend. Husband and I arrived early for dinner this Monday. We werent terribly hungry, we ordered ribeye and shrimp and as always, we split the ribeye and shrimp. It was excellent. The steak was been nice seasoning and cooked perfectly medium and it was delicious.
