The decor is sharp and modern, with a nice atmosphere that makes you want to hang out a while. My wife had the Flautas ($20.50), and I went with the Carne Asada ($20.50). The carne asada was very good, tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. Everything came out fresh and plated nicely. I've been to Blue Corn several times and the servers are nice and it's usually very quick. They have good chips and salsa. The food is not my absolute favorite though, there are definitely better places in Baton Rouge; at least for quesadillas and guac. read more

There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Upon being seated, I was given chips and salsa. The chips were okay but the salsa was super delicious! I sat at the bar and I ordered the watermelon basil margarita. It was really good. I also did a grilled shrimp taco and a steak taco with the rice and beans to make it a combo. Blue corn has a really great atmosphere both inside and out. We ordered ceviche for an appetizer and whereas the flavor was really good, the presentation could use some work. However, the entrées were outstanding. The chili relleno was very different from chili rillenos that I've had in the past, it did not have any breading and was not fried . My only recommendation would've been maybe firing the pepper longer over direct flame to get just a little char on it. Great bar selection. We will definitely return. Give it another try. read more

The best place for Taco Tuesday! Between the blueberry margarita and the fajitas, I was a very happy girl haha! Taco Tuesdays are one of my favorite girls night out excuses. My friend and I came here right after work, and we were sat right at the bar. There was only one other person in here when we first arrived. Right when we sat down, the bartender was ready to take our order. I started out with a beer and my friend a blueberry margarita on the rocks. I had a sip of hers, and I immediately ordered one for myself... it was SO GOOD! Highly recommend this. For our meal, I got the chicken fajitas with no onion and a side of shredded cheese. This was a huge portion, but I was starving so I ate all of the chicken fajitas. I didn't touch the side dish (rice, bens, sour cream) or the tortillas, so there was a lot that came with this entree. My friend stuck with the tacos... I'm not a taco person but she said hers were good. Food and drinks came out very fast and the the quality of food was great. Everything was delicious. The staff was awesome and very attentive. I also love how this place is decorated. There is a beautiful mural that can be seen throughout the restaurant, and the bar area is such a vibe. There was also outdoor seating on the patio, but because it was freezing, no one was out there but there were garage like doors that could open that would bring the patio and the inside together, which I love that concept. i've been going to blue corn for a while now and i've always loved it but more recently i've been trying more food and let me say i've found one of my favorite dishes in baton rouge the slow roasted pork in banana leaf .. that is on a whole nother level of flavor absolutely delicious the serrano pepper sauce is not to be underestimated and everything else on the plate should be devoured at once amazing dish ! i love their different flavor combinations of margaritas not usually a huge fan of open kitchen layout but theirs works love their patio and bar area really cool spot servers are always very nice and efficient read more

This is a great spot for tasty Mexican dishes! While Blue Corn has been on my list of places to try, I ended up here rather unexpectedly for a Friday night dinner around 6:30pm after two nearby places had waits of 45+ minutes (no thank you!). Considering how busy those other places were, I was a bit skeptical of stopping at Blue Corn because it seemed somewhat empty when we arrived (spoiler alert - it filled up like 5 minutes afterward). Hubby and I were greeted by a friendly waiter, who promptly seated us. However, after we placed our drink orders, someone else (manager?) came to our table to say there had been a mix-up and our table had been reserved for someone else. Would we like to move to the bar to wait for a table? We said we could stay at the bar (since who wants to move a second time). We moved to the bar and were greeted by one of the bartenders who asked if we wanted a drink, so I let him know I had already put in a drink order for a margarita. It came out a few minutes later, but I found it to be really watery (which is a bit strange because they make all their margs fresh - not using a pre-mix, which I give bonus points). Maybe it was the ice, but I was a bit disappointed (especially after reading all the reviews about how good they are). But! Because of the mixup with our table, this marg was on the house, so I really can't complain too much. I very much appreciated the gesture! Our bartender was super friendly and helped the hubs decide on what to order (Pastor Skillet), but he was clearly busy and it took a while for him to actually take our order. He never asked if I wanted another drink and wasn't really attentive, although he interacted with other guests that it seemed were regulars; it took quite a while to get our bill even though we were right in front of him with empty dishes. There was also a couple seated next to us about 10 minutes after we sat at the bar who were asked if they wanted another drink and they ended up getting their bill well before we did while we sat with empty plates. This is why I gave 4 stars and not 5. I'm a sucker for good service. Food here was AWESOME (and why I wish I could give 4.5 stars). I had the 3 taco combo with the Tinga, Al Pastor, and Baja Shrimp tacos. All were delicious and they overfill the taco (messy, yes; delicious also yes!) I ate everything on the plates in front of me, including the beans and rice (the rice I could have done without, but I loved the beans). All in all, I would go back here and not sit at the bar to see if that's a different experience. I really feel for busy bartenders, but I felt so ignored. read more

The Oaxacan tamales ("Tamales Oaxaquenos") were very good (one chicken, one pork - chicken was better, with more seasoning; the pork seemed to be boiled meat with no seasoning). The tortilla soup had good flavor and the sauce for the tamales was also good. Great chips, average salsa. "Modern Mexican" is a good description- definitely not TexMex, and a step up from the average authentic Mexican joints around town (with prices to match). Below average service on this visit. Pro tip for restaurant owners/managers - if you build a place with an open kitchen, make sure the staff understands that customers can see when they are hanging out, chatting and sharing videos with each other instead of taking care of customers. It's cool to see how the kitchen works. Are you sure you want us to see ALL that?? Also, the tequila flights are fun, but you need labels (particularly if the servers are not going to know the first thing about which tequiLa is which when they bring it to the table). Fortunately the bartender remembered when I took the flight to the bar to ask. Cucumber jalapeño margarita was good, but a little too much cucumber flavor (needs less of that and more jalapeño). I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Was just looking to try something new and happened upon it. The weather was good enough when I went that the patio was open, the ambiance in the restaurant was good. We ordered the pastor skillet and barbacoa nachos with a large frozen marg. Before the food arrived, I thought the prices were on the higher side, but it made sense once the food arrived. The nachos were absolutely stacked with cheese, cheese sauce, sour cream, guac, and tons of meat. I might add the barbacoa was perfectly tender and delicious. The pastor skillet came out on a sizzling cast iron skillet as most restaurants serve fajitas. They were well seasoned, generous with the onions and pineapple, and actually sizzling. It seems like a common occurrence these days restaurants are moving away from having extremely hot sizzling skillets for fajitas, but it adds so much to the dish. The sound, the aroma, the presentation, it all added up to take the dish to another level. And again, before the meal, I was questioning why pastor would be 20+ dollars, but after receiving it, I could see the extra effort put into the food. Big thumbs up on the food and ambiance. The margarita was good, but not really outside the norm for a frozen marg. The service was good. It was not really noteworthy, but that's usually a good thing when it comes to service. WOW! This is a hidden gem in Baton Rouge. Great selection of authentic dishes on the menu and an even better selection of my favorite thing to drink, Tequila. My favorite part about Blue Corn, other than their kick ass HOUSE margaritas that are on happy hour daily until 6pm? THEY HAVE LENGUA!!!!!!! For those that don't stray away from the norm, lengua is beef tongue and IT. IS. AWESOME. I got the Lengua taco and it was tender, juicy, and full of beautiful beefy goodness. The toppings were minimal so the meat really...spoke. I also got the tacos al carbon and enjoyed the juiciness of that as well. For a side I did the elotes with poblano and it was pretty tasty - fresh snappy corn with a tangy white chunky cheese (maybe feta, maybe cotija) and spicy yet sweet poblano peppers. I wasn't sure what to expect with this place because I'm a pretty solid Rum House for taco Tuesday type girl. BUT Blue Corn blew me away with the authenticity of their food. I got the 2 tacos + 1 side deal for approx $12. The side was poblano peppers with queso fresco and elote. Most def the best side (both quantity and quality) I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. It was absolutely DELICIOUS. I will probably come back just for that side on its own. I also always appreciate the complimentary chips and salsa as a starter. I skipped the main entree and gave an appetizer of flautas and a big side of Calabaza con Elote (zucchini and corn) a try. Came here for an advertised special for that Friday-2 for 1 margaritas! I went ahead and got a jalapeno cucumber margarita. It was the right amount of spicyness although it was fairly weak. I got the sopes trio as a main and the rajas con queso y elotes as a side. The sopes trio was good; it didn't wow me but it was fine for $10. The rajas was just okay? Like nothing was bad nor great. Like servers kinda just like to linger right next to your table and it's not like they were packed and needed us to leave. Additionally, they were kinda trying to force my sister to get another margarita, when her and a friend each got one (2 for 1, so the other would be free). This was my first time visiting Blue Corn and my friend's second time visiting. I heard great things about it, so I had to check it out while I was back in town. For the most part, Blue Corn lived up to the hype. Location wise, located down Perkins, Blue Corn is fairly close to LSU and is an easy drive in non-high traffic times. There was ample parking, so we were off to a great start! After being seated, we were promptly served our chips and salsa. The hostess seated us at a high table that seats two, but the restaurant was not particularly busy, so I felt it was odd to sit at the side table in the corner when there were ample options available. We were cramped when our meals came. Similarly, our server promptly brought our drinks out and took our orders. When I was stuck on what to order, the server assured me confidently to choose the Mole Negro Enchiladas with Carne Asada. Overall, it was a solid meal. I had never had Mole before, so I have nothing to compare Blue Corn's to, but as a whole the meal was a little underwhelming and did not match the review the server gave. The carne asada was juicy and flavorful, but it also tasted a little burnt, which threw my taste buds off at the end of each bite. The rice and beans came with the dish helped to balance this out, so it was too big of a deal. My friend got the tacos and took some home because she couldn't finish them, they have a lot of fixings on the top! I will praise the Blue Corn staff for their coolness under pressure. We visited on Black Friday, and while eating, the power went out for the whole complex and block for some crazy reason. Our server kept their cool and although we were unable to pay with card as planned, thankfully both of us had cash, so we were able to pay for our meal and leave. Solid experience, I hear they have great Taco Tuesday deals, so maybe I will try those when I come back into town. read more
