I visited Cabo's Mexican Restaurant in Plaquemine, Louisiana yesterday for the first time with a coworker. We were quickly seated and warm chips and salsa soon arrived. The chips were crisp and the salsa was flavorful and slightly spicy. The Mexican décor of the restaurant was colorful, festive and spacious. There is also a stage fronting the main highway for live entertainment. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. We both ordered a bowl of charros bean soup. The soup arrived steaming hot in a large bowl. We were so excited to try the soup. My coworker asked for some cheese to top off the bean soup. To our disappointment, we were both underwhelmed with the flavor of the charros bean soup and the texture of the sausage in the soup. My coworker thought the sauce resembled cut Vienna sausages. We both finished only half the bowl and I would not order again! Additionally, to my coworker's surprise he was charged $1.50 for the cheese. Our experience at other Mexican restaurants is that cheese is a customary topping for bean soup. To satisfy our hunger, I ordered the ground beef and cheese enchilada platter with red chili sauce plus Spanish rice and beans and my coworker ordered the Hector plate which is a beef burrito, a beef crispy taco and a beef enchilada with chili con carne sauce plus Spanish rice and beans. We both raved about the enchiladas. For dessert, we both ordered a flan. We were both surprised to receive flan served like a slice of pie. The ample serving was nicely caramelized and flavorful, especially if one likes vanilla. Overall, the experience was good and worthy of a return visit. We both have our eye on the shrimp and fish soup, which we both got the scent of the soup from an adjacent table. It looked delicious.

I have been wanting to try this place, and I have heard so many great things, but our experience eating here was not the best to say the least lol. Initially, everything was great. We came in and the hostess seated us right away. Right off the bat, our server came over and asked us what we wanted to drink. She didn't introduce her self or try to make any small talk, which I like, so I can know the server's name. We were not impressed with the chips and salsa at all. The salsa tasted like chili water. We had to add so much salt for it to be okay and the chips tasted old and stale. We got the queso as and appetizer and we also didn't like that. The queso was plain. Not bad, but not quite good. Compared to others, it needs some work. After looking at reviews and being upset with the appetizer we had order, we decided to just get a small guacamole and split an apple pie. I'm glad we did this! The guacamole was good. The Apple pie was awesome! It came out extremely hot. It was so hot it burned our mouths and we had to wait almost 5 minutes trying to cool it down! But it was worth the wait for sure. It was topped with a little scoop of ice cream. The only complaint we had about the Apple pie was the breading. The breading tasted like corn bread, or just very very dry bread. Throughout our whole sitting, there was a few action scenes around us. The waiter was busing a table and dropped the tray, which sent salsa flying through the air, hitting both me and my boyfriend and the table behind us. No one apologized. We kind of laughed it off and just asked for napkins but we were like what the heck. Then not even two minutes later, in that same exact spot, another waitress was walking by with a tray of drinks, when everything dropped. The waitress was ok, but the table behind us was joking saying we had to get the heck out of there before some thing else major went flying and spilled on us! We got the bill, and figured out our waitresses name was Holly.

Food was pretty good... lady was very nice and had our to go food in less than 15 minutes. Pros: Not outrageous portions Great rice Flavorful Pico de Gallo was very fresh Four flour tortillas for fajitas Cons: For $16 I wish the fajita steak wasn't well done (still flavorful and a little juicy from the onions! Fajita steak cut very thick. One slice per tortilla but it didn't fill the tortilla shell A large queso to go didn't seem like a large at the restaurant Menu says grilled burrito comes with rice and beans but it does not We will definitely eat here again.. just hoping for an even better fajita experience What we got: steak fajita, large queso, side of pico, grilled burrito. The chips and salsa was a very unique, charred look! Can't wait to eat again

The service here is amazing. Got served immediately with a drink and complimentary side of tortilla chips and salsa dip. I initially thought I would only get one basket of chips and dip however, when I ran out, they brought me another one! The food did take a little while to come out around 20-25 minutes. I ordered the chimichanga and it was okay. It was the best thing out there considering how small the area is. The rice was yellow rice and beans were awesome and the chimichanga was very hot and fresh. There was A LOT of melted cheese on it, making it almost a little heavy to me. The portions were super big considering how good the price is. The waiters were super nice. Will probably be back here in the future, but will probably ordered a lighter item.

Very nice staff warm and friendly service. Typical traditional Mexican eating establishment. What sets them apart is that the caring service and the amazing sizzling apple pie aka mode. It comes out from the kitchen on one of those black cast iron sizzling and popping like a witches cauldron. If you like caramel dulce de leche you will enjoy this dessert as much as I did maybe more!! You definitely have to make room and try it. It's sizzling

I went here during lunch time. Small hole in the wall, restaurant appearance was a little sketchy but the food taste pretty authentic and was good. The quesadilla melted cheese tasted extra good for some reason. Lunch prices were reasonable overall I would definitely come again!

Blown away by this place! Strong and tasty margaritas, fresh chips and salsa, authentic food... My husband got the carnitas and I got the enchiladas suizas - both were fantastic. HIGHLY recommend!!

This is the COVID-19 takeout version of my review of Cabo's. We'd eaten there many times before all the stay at home/quarantine began, and we really liked it. (Our only complaint was that the live music on Thursdays was really too loud for us older not-quite-fogies - so we didn't go on Thursdays, problem solved!) When they announced they were closing until this was all over, we were sad. Especially my teenager. So when they announced they'd be open part of each week for takeout, we rejoiced! And we promptly went for takeout. Our order was ready when promised, all prepared just as we ordered it, and the margarita was top notch, even if it was served in a styrofoam cup (which is just par for the course these days, definitely no slight on Cabo's!). They even included free chips and salsa with our order. My teenager got his fajita chicken chimichanga, my younger son got his fajita chicken nachos, my husband got his beef fajitas, and I made a happy plate with my enchiladas suizas. So very good, and they did not skimp on the tequila in the margarita, either. No pics, because we were hungry and scarfed everything down double quick. Yum. We love Cabo's, and we look forward to the day they reopen and we can go dine in!

We came on a Sunday, and I got a delicious brunch!…read more The restaurant wasn't busy for an early lunch, so we got seated right away. Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. But, we never waited long for anything!

I've been coming here since they first opened, and while I've noticed the food quality has dipped…read moreslightly from those early days, it remains a solid choice for Tex-Mex in BR. This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.
