Avocado Fish Salad with salmon and shrimp.
    Erin F.

Back at my favorite Mexican spot in Baton Rouge. This is one of my go to salads there. It's the Avocado Fish salad. I love getting the salmon but they also have tilapia or black drum. All are delicious. I sometimes add shrimp as an extra. Everything is so fresh and seasoned well. Best servers and you are in and out. It is a great local spot.

Lunch on yesterday 4/18/24 at Casa Maria, food and service was wonderful. Hope to return soon for the apple pie.

The food and service was wonderful. I will return for apple pie next time. This was not my first time.

Casa Maria has been in business in its Bluebonnet location for decades. It serves a variety of Mexican and Mexican/American dishes, including old favorites as well as newer fresher offerings. One thing that these have in common is that the serving sizes tend to the very large, platter-like is probably a good description! The interior is really nice, with a variety of great murals adorning the walls. Some of these show scenes from an idealized old Mexico, and others picture tropical birds and flowers. There are a number of seating areas, including an outdoor patio. Service is always prompt and friendly, and your orders come out pretty quickly. It is easy to see why they have successfully been in business at this location for so long. They are located on Bluebonnet near its junction with Perkins Road, which is pretty convenient to the Mall of Louisiana as well as the Perkins Rowe area. This is close enough to the I-10 exit to make it a possible stop for travelers as well.

The food was really good here. I was kind of surprised actually. We just ducked in this place, passing through and we didn't leave disappointed. I had the combo plate with a cheese enchilada and pork tamale covered in chili. Great flavor. The salsa is also heavy on the cilantro, and I really enjoyed it.

Casa Maria is your typical casual Tex-Mex style restaurant. They have all the dishes you love such as enchiladas, tacos, chimichangas and fajitas. We go here for lunch pretty often and have pretty much never had a bad experience. The food is fresh and tasty (for what it is.) The people are friendly and the prices are right. Ultimately I like it.

Naked burrito with fajita steak. Delicious!

We tried Casa Maria on the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed! The salsa was different than a lot of other salsas I've had at local Mexican restaurants. Sweeter, maybe? All I know is, it was delicious. I ordered the naked burrito. This may be my new favorite Mexican dish anywhere. Fajita steak, well seasoned, with rice and refried beans and sweet corn. The only way I could make it better would be to add some grilled onions. My husband got the Maria's tacos. He said it was delicious, and he wished he'd have known how generous the portions were, so he wouldn't have filled up on chips and that tasty salsa! He ordered his suprosa, and said it was excellent - very flavorful, with a heat that built but didn't overwhelm. My older son was able to request his favorite fajita chicken chimichanga, even though it wasn't a menu item, and my younger son got his chicken quesadilla made just the way he likes it. Everyone went home full, and we'll absolutely be back. Good service, amazing food, what's not to like?

The salsa is not great it is very tomato base taste. I like fresh salsa that is made by the restaurant not out the can.

Tonight I got Spanish coffee and a chili relleno. The Spanish coffee is an alcohol drink that can be used as a dessert. Yummy! The chili rellenllo was filled with dellicious ground seasoned beef. It has a coating and is deep fried. The pulled pork quesadillas are so yummy- this is what my hubby got tonight. I like the way the seating is here. There are booths and tables and all are comfortable. Though you may be sitting near another table, the acoustics are such that others talking are not bothersome. This is a pet peeve for me- many times I would rather eat at home - but here, the restaurant here feels like our family now. They are known for their delicious margaritas; but the bar can mix most any drink . I love Mestizos, the yummy food and varied menu mmm is the word! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies. We love most everything on their menu. The chefs Dad owned a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge for years- " Carlos" Uridales inspired his son, Jim, to open his own restaurant. Mestizos has been in business for over 25 years. Jim Uridales and his crew are also benevolent members of Baton Rouge and they are a service oriented group of professionals. The menu prices are slightly higher on some items, however, scallops with shrimp here are very delicious and perfectly browned in a buttery flavored manner and this menu item sells for 30 dollars and it's the most costly entree on the menu. Their tapas menu is more budget friendly and delicious. I urge you to try this delicious menu for yourself. We love their catering department too!

If Michelin ever gives stars in Baton Rouge, Mestizo should on the list. Try the scallops in mole verde and the salmon in mole pistachio.

We came on a Sunday, and I got a delicious brunch!…read more The restaurant wasn't busy for an early lunch, so we got seated right away. Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. But, we never waited long for anything!

This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.
