This evening, my wife and I ordered carry out from Casa Maria on Bluebonnet Boulevard. The lady took our order accurately on the phone and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. However, when we arrived , it was not ready and temporarily, they misplaced the order. Later, they found the order and gave us our food, which was cold by the time we got home. In addition, we had to wait an extra 15 minutes for them to fill our order. The food itself was OK. Kind of salty really. Saltier than it used to be I think. So I would go there again and if things are the same, I would not recommend this restaurant. For the time being, however, I'm kind of neutral about it. read more

Back at my favorite Mexican spot in Baton Rouge. This is one of my go to salads there. It's the Avocado Fish salad. I love getting the salmon but they also have tilapia or black drum. Casa Maria is nothing fancy or authentic, but it's good food when you're craving it, and the prices are great. They have been around for several years, I think my first visit to this location was about 25 years ago. There is a lot of room for groups, and even surrounded by large groups, it doesn't get crazy noisy. On our last visit with about 12 of us, we were quickly seated and quickly attended to. Our server was friendly and on point. She was also patient with us. Everyone ordered, and the food came our really quickly, even though they were a little busy that night. I ordered tacos a la carte because I was not too hungry. Each one was good and just your basic taco. But everyone else's dishes looked really good - lots of beans, sauces, cheese... some quesadillas, enchiladas, and taco plates. Only two boxes were needed as everyone just devoured their meals. Casa Maria has been in business in its Bluebonnet location for decades. It serves a variety of Mexican and Mexican/American dishes, including old favorites as well as newer fresher offerings. One thing that these have in common is that the serving sizes tend to the very large, platter-like is probably a good description! The interior is really nice, with a variety of great murals adorning the walls. Some of these show scenes from an idealized old Mexico, and others picture tropical birds and flowers. There are a number of seating areas, including an outdoor patio. Service is always prompt and friendly, and your orders come out pretty quickly. It is easy to see why they have successfully been in business at this location for so long. They are located on Bluebonnet near its junction with Perkins Road, which is pretty convenient to the Mall of Louisiana as well as the Perkins Rowe area. Food was delicious and the outside seating area was lovely. Unfortunately there were smokers on the patio when we arrived which made things less than ideal. We were charged for an item we didn't order which we didn't notice right away. There was an unexpected upcharge for sauces which we were not told about upfront. I don't like surprises like that. We tried Casa Maria on the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed! The salsa was different than a lot of other salsas I've had at local Mexican restaurants. Sweeter, maybe? All I know is, it was delicious. I ordered the naked burrito. This may be my new favorite Mexican dish anywhere. Fajita steak, well seasoned, with rice and refried beans and sweet corn. The only way I could make it better would be to add some grilled onions. My husband got the Maria's tacos. He said it was delicious, and he wished he'd have known how generous the portions were, so he wouldn't have filled up on chips and that tasty salsa! He ordered his suprosa, and said it was excellent - very flavorful, with a heat that built but didn't overwhelm. My older son was able to request his favorite fajita chicken chimichanga, even though it wasn't a menu item, and my younger son got his chicken quesadilla made just the way he likes it. BEST SALSA EVER. Seriously, I keep a stock of it in my fridge. Their queso is also my favorite. I've been going to this restaurant for YEARS and am always pleased with the food. My go-to entree is the fajita steak nachos. Absolutely delicious! Instead of processed nacho cheese sauce, they spread refried beans on each chip and melt real cheese on top. 1st Time here! We dined in on Cinco de Mayo. My cousin loves this place, but since it was Cinco de Mayo the menu was limited so we didn't get to to try the items she suggested. The food was good, but I have had better queso. I judge Mexican restaurants by their queso because I Love Cheese. The drinks were strong which is a plus. The staff is friendly. The outside appearance is not amazing and to get in the parking lot from the side there is a pretty big bump that you have to drive slow over. Walking in the restaurant was very clean and the staff all had smiles on their faces. We got there for an early lunch at 11, but soon after we arrived the place was getting packed. We were immediately given fresh chips and salsa. We got the lunch grilled chicken and vegetable soup with a Coke Zero and also the kids cheese quesadilla with fries and an orange juice. With a tip it was only $20. The service was very quick and friendly. Our waitress knew the menu well and even though she had 5 or more tables she made sure to give all of us the attention that we needed. The restroom could do with some remodeling. The bigger stalls toilet was not entirely secured to the ground and made a loud noise when you sit on it. Yes there were some cosmetic damages that need to be addressed but the food and service were amazing. We will be back soon. read more

The Margaritas are pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant. They did not taste fresh mixed, but they not overly sweet. The frozen Margarita with sangria swirl added a different dynamic to the normal frozen lime version. The salsa was the best part of our visit. A little heat with a nice cilantro flavor. The chips were average. SO ordered the mixed fajitas. There was plenty of meat and shrimp, but not much for being veggies. I got the tacos al carbon with steak. The steak was well cooked, but I could have done without the cheddar cheese they were topped with. The cheese dip serviced with the tacos seemed out of place, and tasted like canned nacho cheese. It was.... not really authentic Mexican. My first time in Baton Rouge, and I've had trouble finding good Mexican food in Louisiana, so .. I'm not really surprised. I would have liked to like it, it's nice people working there, kinda decent decor. Just bland and Americanized stuff. It even looked nice on the plate, but... not too good. The chips and salsa, had cumin in it and a bit of cilantro, but no kick, and when I asked if they had hotter salsa, the best they could do was bring bottled Cholula sauce to add in. I had the Gigante Burrito. Ground beef barely seasoned, some beans and rice, some melted cheese on it (not questions, or any Mexican cheese I've ever had, some tomato. Beans and rice, bland also. Little scoop of avocado (I wouldn't call it guacamole), and sour cream. Side order of tamale was again... Store bought tamale with some ground beef in a brown sauce. Sigh...... Too bad. The girl who would be my girlfriend had enchiladas, and had the same bland stuff. The margaritas were tasty, kinda small. read more

I love Tex Mex and this place does not disappoint. My go to dish is the Fish Tacos. It's served with rice and black beans which, like their chips and salsa, are average. Their lunch specials are $8-13. There are a couple of TVs and a bar area. This is a nice, casual restaurant at which to grab a quick lunch. The portions here are big but not outrageous. Our party of 2 ordered drinks, nacho appetizer, queso, guacamole and 2 entrees. When our food came, we realized we ordered way too much so we had lots of leftovers. Our server, Maria was one of the best servers I have ever had. She made sure our drinks were never empty, and was very attentive without coming to our tabke every 5 minutes. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was less than expected. We sat in the back near a big hole in the wall and my eyes kept wandering up the wall to a broken clock that was covered by a crazy amount of dust. I know they say hole in the wall restaurants habe the best food. This place has a literal hole in the wall and the food is pretty good so i guess they werent wrong. My family has been eating at this place for years!!!! My Pawpaw used to order the same thing every single time, and the managers and wait staff always knew what we were there for when they saw him.
