This place is cute! The patio dining area is nice too. Our server was really great and the place was clean. We were a table of 6 and the food came out pretty quick. I really wanted to like this place, but my experience was honestly beyond disappointing. The food itself tasted decent. However, within minutes of eating here, both of us became extremely sick and not even being able to make it to the CAR before throwing everything up. It turned into a full night of severe food poisoning, which is absolutely unacceptable for any restaurant. It's one thing for food to be average, but it's another for it to make customers physically ill. Food safety should be the bare minimum, and yet the kitchen couldn't even achieve that. I created a yelp account just to say this because I am not a person who writes reviews but the service and food was pitiful. Server checked on us maybe 2 times. The only reason it gets 1 stars is because my husband's food was decent. Mine on the other hand was awful. Bland, onions were not fully cooked and half were burnt. The fried ice cream was extremely stale. To the point to we both hated it. They put a little ball of crispy stuff in the middle to make it look bigger than it actually was. My the cheese n onion enchiladas topped with chili con Carne, camera refried beans and Mexican rice it was delicious and yes the cheese is the cheddar yellow cheddar Yum Yum Yum! My granddaughter had the Baja shrimp taco plate with beans and rice, she loved them. The bean dip is delicious and the guacamole dip is amazing, it a super food and super delicious. Being from Texas, I've grown up with some pretty high standards when it comes to tacos. I decided to give the shrimp tacos at Casa Maria a try, and unfortunately, they fell short of my expectations. The shrimp was overcooked, and the taco shells had an almost wet, steamed texture to them. I believe in constructive feedback, so I hope this can be an area of improvement. I made the mistake of ordering a passion fruit margarita and it was not good. As in not good I mean a lot watery and little to no passion fruit flavor. I hear the margaritas are great and everyone's looked really good so it must be just what I ordered! We both had tamales and agree they were ok but not the best we've had around here. Our server was really late to getting refills and our check, but she was sweet. Good, standard Tex-Mex. I see several reports of bad service - this is a busy, packed place. I've been here many times, and service has always been decent. But in a really busy place, sometimes it might be a bit off. Don't let that stop you if you want good tex-mex. And especially if you want THE best spinach enchilada on the face of the planet. The vegetarian plate comes with a chili relleno stuffed with veggies and cheese, and a bean burrito (totally unnecessary), and a spinach enchilada that is awesome. A hint of cumin and some other heavenly spice make it alone worth being here. Tacos carbon are also great (with lots of sour cream, guac, and pico). And the rice is perfectly seasoned and cooked (nice and fluffy and tender). Four stars - A solid choice for good tex-mex. read more

Dollars. Let that sink in. There are 12 chips in total here. That nearly $1 per chip. Someone working minimum wage can't even afford these nachos after an entire hour of work. This would be what I would expect the chef at Hotel Rowanda made because he thought that's what nachos were supposed to be. 12 chips and a sneeze of cheese is not worthy of being called "nachos" from a claimed Mexican cuisine establishment. Went here the other night with the damn fam cause we were feeling a bit burned out on Las Palmas (the other local Mexican place in the area) and I wanted to try this joint... Love the interior and ambience of this place...dark and in my opinion gives off an intimate vibe and the food was OUTSTANDING!!! The sisters weren't digging the 'ritas...not that they were bad but the Las Palmas 'ritas are the BOMB...gotta defer because they are the 'rita specialists in this family!! They offered a shredded beef taco plate and I went for it...closest thing I've found to a brisket taco since I been down here...I do miss Cantina Laredo and my brisket tacos back in Shreveport Everyone enjoyed their respective meals, me especially, and this is definitely on my return again on a regular basis kinda place. The server was the only reason they received the 3rd star. Trey was very attentive. This is like every other blase' tex mex restaurant. Salsa was just okay, guacamole was bland and the one scoop you get as an appetizer is way overpriced. Husband's nachos had so much melted shredded cheese as opposed to queso that when they melted it on those thin chips he couldn't eat them because the chips just broke apart underneath them. There was just big clumps of cheese on broken pieces of chips. My chimichanga was small but the chicken was well seasoned. Went there Sunday night and food was a mess! The waitress was amazing but their kitchen. Refs to get it together. I wanted extra sauce on my pasta it came with none, only butter on the noddles (but I didn't order butter). When they finally brought my sauce after 20 minutes (my 5 kids were already done eating) it was straight out the fridge not even room temp, straight out the fridge. So why did I wait 20 extra minutes. also I got sick as a dog when the people next to us were all smoking those electric cigarettes and the manager never even told them anything. Very upset. We went yesterday, about 1 pm. My daughter ordered the tortilla soup and really liked it. I'm on an "empanada hunt", so ordered their beef empanada. It was good, just plain beef inside, no veggies as some others I've had, but it was a really good plain one. Good flavor and the crust is really light and flaky. They had fish tacos as a special tonight. The tilapia seemed fine...and it was well seasoned. It smelled a tad bit "fishy" but probably because it was overcooked as fish often is which brings out the oils so you get that "fishy" smell...not necessarily an indicator that it was old fish which many people think. While good, there was nothing spectacular about the fish taco.....grilled seasoned fish, lettuce, tomato, cheese...pretty basic and plain. A special sauce would have added so much more to the plain lonely taco. But my biggest problem recently has been the sides. The rice is always dry and flavorless and the black beans are soupy and mushy and taste straight from a can. I know you don't choose a restaurant for their side dishes, but having decent ones that are consistent (consistently good mind you) sure does add to the experience. We visited Casa Maria on a Saturday for lunch. They have a lower than average amount of people that I would assume on a weekend for lunch. When we walked in we came straight to the hostess stand where two hostess stood, they both stared at us until I finally said we need a table for two. The hostess that came to seat us was clearly in a bad mood and did not speak to us. When we were seated and the "Chip guy" was 2 seconds behind, followed by our waiter. Our waiter was nice and had a very thick accent. I order the chicken burrito and it was pretty good and my friend order the chicken quesadilla I believed she enjoyed. We did not see much of our waiter but it did not hinder the enjoyment of our visit. I definitely think our waiter could have made our experience better, but he was just not around. read more
