I was craving a breakfast burrito the other day but I didn't really know of a quick place to go to before work. So I used #Yelp and found @rougerabbitbr off of Essen, in the United Plaza. I've driven down Essen multiple times but never knew about this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a nice quaint, very much South Louisiana spot that serves breakfast and lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were very kind and friendly. Now I didn't get a breakfast burrito this time, instead I got a breakfast bowl which was soooo good! Next time, I have to try the burrito and the French toast but also something from their lunch menu. If you are in the BR area and wanna try a local spot, check out Rouge Rabbit.

Rouge rabbit is extremely convenient and fast. My favorite things I've gotten here are the drinks, especially the iced coffee. The employees are personable and quick to call if they're uncertain about any part of your order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a chill ambiance, making it a great lunch spot[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place is a hole in the wall. Super cute on the inside. You order at the counter. The lady was super nice and sweet. It was very clean. My dad had the chicken club sandwich he said he would come back. I had the summer salad but in a wrap form and it was super refreshing. My daughter got a grilled cheese and it was great! My daughter did have to go to the bathroom and theirs was out of order. Since it's such a small place they should really get that fixed!

The Rouge Rabbit is a nice little hole in the wall over on United Plaza Blvd. I'm pretty sure it's very popular with all of the workers in the nearby office buildings! I had been meaning to go there based on seeing previous Yelp reviews and finally made it by. There's plenty of parking in the surface lots surrounding the eatery. The one I stopped at had a two hour limit, which is plenty for a meal. The place has outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. It also appears to have a busy take out business. The lunch menu is varied, with salads, wraps, sandwiches, and even more substantial offerings, including pizzas. There's also a breakfast menu that looked good, but I wasn't there at that time of day. There's also a range of coffee beverages for the caffeinated crowd. I had a Grilled Chicken Club that included Applewood Smoked Bacon and was on some great bread. One thing I really liked about the menu was one could order a selection of side items, including Cajun Potato Salad, chips, and my selection, Cajun Dirty Rice! One can make a combo with a side and a drink for a nice price. Now that I'm familiar with this hidden jem, I'll certainly go back when I'm in the area. I'm interested in their Po-Boys and the Applewood Smoked BLT!

I was in the area during a crazy work day and wanted something different than my normal Serops express or Salad Station so I stopped in. It's a small location but everything is cooked fresh to order. I ordered the Shrimp and Chicken combo which came with pan seared portions of each and my choice of sides - I went with pasta salad and green beans. Everything was bursting with flavor and the proteins were perfectly cooked. Definitely a new addition to my lunch rotation when I'm looking for something healthy and delicious!

Love this little hidden gem; we played seek until we found it! It was worth the find! Everything was so good! Their customer service was A 1: that young lady at the front was so patient and friendly: I love that especially at a small business! Inside is so cute! We will return! Our son told us about it: he loves it also: I am glad we took that chance and went! Everyone needs to go there and see how great it is!

Def a five star! Being a YELPSTER, it's my Geaux too. This place is comfy and trendy! A quiet gem nestled in the hustle and bustle of Essen lane and I-10/ I-12 corridor. When you walk in, the bright green walls and quirky decor gives off great vibes. Daisy was a blessing -- explaining everything and quite the barista also. She gave us suggestions on specialty coffees and menu items. I ordered the Butter Pecan ice coffee and my sweetie had the chocolate raspberry decaf latte. Both were delish and reasonably priced. It was a great experience. We played the "80's-90's Trivia"game found on our table while we waiting for our food. We ordered the 2-Egg and Sausage Breakfast and the Breakfast Pizza with ham. The food arrived packaged to-go ready: pizza in a Pizza box and mine in a styro container. But don't judge a book by its cover. The food was great, although it was powdered eggs. I don't mind powdered eggs in certain dishes. The Pizza was amazing and the eggs worked perfect for that application. I enjoyed my eggs and sausage. Not a gourmet breakfast place but def will come back. If you are having a down day, the Rouge Rabbit will get you hopping again! It's just food for thought.

Came here on a whim !! Saw a picture of the hot sausage poboy on doordash and figured we should give it a try in person ! My goodness the food was delicious! The workers were extremely nice and quick they emphasize quickness since they are in a busy traffic area. The bayou burger was outstanding to say the least , blackened shrimp that wasn't small and a Pattie that I can say is seasoned better then others I've had. The hot sausage poboy was fantastic too soft bread with flavorful and spicy sausage. We also got stuffed potatoes with shrimp in it that was excellent as well that came with salad and strawberry shortbread which was really good too. The place is small but they are going to expand and remodel as well, along with daily special that change daily! I recommend to anyone that works in that area or just loves good food, if I could give them 6 starts out of 5 I would !

I been living around Essen for 10 years and I just discovered this place and it was a very great find! Their food came out fast and best of all the menu items were all very affordable for quick food. I got their house specialty Bayou Burger was topped with good beef patty and bunch of blackened shrimp for just about $7!! They also have different special combo everyday if you're looking for varieties and something different. The special tI got was a shrimp stuffed backer potatoe with side cucumber salad and strawberry shortcake; it was very satisfying combination Everything was very delicious and I'm excited to try other stuff in the menu. They said they will be renovating the place next few months to be bigger and have bars and larger table space which is great! They said the current restaurant will still be open during renovation.

The breakfast bowl! $6.04 after tax... tots, eggs, cheese, turkey sausage!!!

Literally was just driving around my work place and found this hidden gem! Rouge Rabbit is located next to the old shut down Subway near the Archives building.. The gps took me to the BACK of the building..so hope that helps y'all a little. If you're looking for a super super cheap breakfast, lunch, dinner & on occasion some daily specials then this place is for you! I Walked in around 8:45 am with a breakfast wiffff that just smacks you in the face. OH, and the hospitality was so nice too. Immediately was greeted and ordered. The breakfast menu is quite small so it didn't take me too much time to decide. This gem is definitely not a group date dine in kind of joint. Rouge Rabbit is super small with only 3 tables & a couple stools by the door. It'd be better to place your order to go. I'll have to go back for lunch & dinner one day and update you guys on that... but if you're in the area and want to grab a quick breakfast sammich or whateva, come!

We were in Baton Rouge helping our grandson move into his dorm as an incoming freshman at LSU, and Parrain's kept coming up in our searches and reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad we did! We visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., and when I tell you EVERYBODY and their family was there... I mean everybody! The parking lot was packed. There is plenty of parking, but there were so many people that we still had to hunt for a spot. Thankfully, we found one under a shade tree because it was HOT! When we walked up, we fully expected a long wait. There is plenty of outdoor seating for people waiting, and I also noticed they have both steps and an accessibility ramp leading to the entrance. My daughter and I sat down while my husband stood in line to put our name on the list. About five minutes later, he was waving for us to come inside! Apparently, many of the people waiting were large groups and families coming from church, but since there were only three of us, they were able to seat us almost immediately. HUGE plus! Once inside, it was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. It took our server a little while to initially get to us, but considering how packed the restaurant was, it really wasn't bad at all. Our waitress was very nice, and I was actually impressed with how quickly our food came out. Now let's talk about the FOOD!! We first ordered the onion rings for an appetizer... super delicious I ordered the fried shrimp platter, and those shrimp were fried to PERFECTION! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The meal also came with salad, fries, hush puppies, and a side. The hush puppies were SO GOOD! They are shaped almost like little donut holes... crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Delicious! For my side, I chose the fresh green beans instead of the dirty rice. Unfortunately, those were the one thing I didn't enjoy. They didn't have much flavor to me and seemed a little undercooked. Next time, I'll definitely choose another side. My husband ordered the fried catfish platter with dirty rice, coleslaw, and fries, and he loved everything. I tasted his coleslaw, and OH MY GOODNESS! Get the coleslaw! It was different from any coleslaw I've had before. It has whole peanuts in it, which sounds unusual, but somehow it WORKS! The peanuts add this wonderful crunch and flavor. It was SO good. And the French fries!! I've never seen fries cut this way before. They're almost shaped like little Scoop Fritos, with a crispy outside and soft potato inside. So unique and really good! My daughter ordered the catfish strips and fries from the kids' menu. These weren't processed little nuggets... they were actual pieces of catfish cut into strips, and she really enjoyed them. She also ordered the crab fingers, and those were another 10/10! They were incredibly well-seasoned with a little spice and tons of flavor. I tasted one and wanted MORE! I'm watching my sodium intake, so I behaved myself, but they were absolutely delicious. Overall, Parrain's was a 10/10 for us. The only thing I wouldn't personally order again would be the green beans. Everything else, from the shrimp and catfish to those amazing hush puppies, unique fries, crab fingers, and especially that coleslaw, was DELICIOUS. Yes, it was crowded and lively, but we still received really good service and didn't have to wait nearly as long as we expected. With our grandson now attending LSU, we'll be making plenty of trips back to Baton Rouge, and Parrain's has officially made our list of places we will be visiting again!

I had really been looking forward to trying Parrain's Seafood, but unfortunately my experience was…read moredisappointing. Our waitress, Kate M., didn't have the best customer service. She came across as short, unfriendly, and overall not very pleasant. I first ordered a Banana Foster's Martini, but she came back and said they didn't have the ingredients. No problem--I asked for an Espresso Martini instead. A few minutes later, after bringing everyone else's drinks, she returned and simply said they couldn't make that either and asked if I wanted something else. At that point, I just declined. When it was time to order, our table had nine people. She took my husband's order, then went around the table taking everyone else's order. By the time she got back to me, she said, "Okay, is that it?" I had to remind her that she hadn't taken my order yet. I ordered the crab and corn bisque, a salad, and the stuffed catfish with creamed spinach. The salad came out quickly and was very good. Then everyone else at the table received their meals while I only received my bisque. After waiting, I was told my stuffed catfish "didn't come out right" and had to be remade. At that point, I honestly wondered if it was a joke. It wasn't. By the time my entrée arrived, everyone else was nearly finished eating. To the restaurant's credit, they did remove the stuffed catfish from my bill, and I appreciated that. However, the entire experience left me feeling overlooked from start to finish. My biggest suggestion would be for our waitress to work on her customer service. A smile goes a long way. Saying things like "Give me that plate," slamming cups onto the table, and appearing annoyed throughout the meal doesn't create a welcoming dining experience. Hospitality is just as important as the food, and I hope this feedback is taken constructively.
