The food is good, though not quite what it was before, suggesting they're still settling into the menu and kitchen. The extended hours are a welcome improvement, making it easier to visit beyond the old early closing time. Overall, it feels like a 3.5-star experience right now, but I'm rounding up in hopes they'll continue to improve. read more

Great food and great service! Had lunch with a friend one week day, and it was great! I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but my friend is vegan. The food was delicious! I had the French on focaccia bread-so much flavor, I didn't miss the meat! I had the corn soup-yum! You can expect to pay around $12-$18 for most entrees, but most come with your choice of soup or salad. The chef was experimenting with a banana cookie, and OMG! It was a little more like a muffin top because it was fluffy and had mini chocolate chips-we told her to definitely add it to the menu. I did a search for Vegan food near airport and it let me to MJ's. The staff is informative and friendly, Andrea helped me out today and she was a delight. The atmosphere here is open, modern and comfortable. They had nice, seasonal decorations throughout the dining room and in the tables. So cute! Now to the real reason I stopped in...the food! They have so many vegan options and it was nice to be able to have breakfast. They had a couple specials and I chose the Pumpkin Pie French Toast. It wasn't too sweet, it was just right. They have helped with recommendations during visits, moving tables when I camped out and realized I now needed to plug my laptop in, and multiple other requests. Which, anyone who has had my cooking knows, is not true but gives you a glimpse into how much I didn't like it. However, I was super hungry, trying to find places open on a random Monday afternoon, and this place looked as good as any to stop in to try. There wasn't diet coke, because of course there wasn't, but they did have a nice margarita to keep my thirst quenched. I ordered the French sandwich, as I have rarely been led astray by goat cheese, pepper jelly, and apples. It was a solid and filling meal, and I enjoyed the staff there. I ordered the buffalo cauliflower wrap with mushroom soup and vegan quesadilla. Unfortunately, they were all out of vegan desserts that day by the time I called. I called about 1200 noon. The buffalo cauliflower wrap was awesome! I could eat that daily. The mushroom soup was good, had a little spicy kick to it. The vegan quesadilla was okay but not memorable. The first time I came here I got the birdy salad to go and I fell in love with it. I also tried the peanut salad (was terrible) it said the dressing was spicy and it wasn't at all. I also tried the bbq chick pea salad and hated it as well. They are very expensive for what you get. Each meal is made to order, so be patient. It's worth it! First tip- the baked goods are gluten free (and vegan), but be sure to ask. Second tip- they have gluten free bread to turn wraps into sandwiches. After that, decide what you want and be ready to be satiated! The salad (daily) is definitely filling and quite fresh- can add avocado for extra if so desired. Have in mind just one sandwich or wrap though, because again very filling! I like jackfruit and their jackfruit sandwich is definitely delicious and filling. The BLT is also delicious with all the coconut bacon! I like how the food is not too salty! One of a few vegetarian spots in Baton Rouge, this one happens to be in a food hall. Google maps currently has the location disastrously wrong, so make sure you're heading over to White Star Market. Their menu seemed appealing enough, however, when I ordered a black bean torta, I ended up with a pretty ordinary pita (but if you call it a "torta" it sounds fancy) with black bean hummus and some decent vegetables. It took way too long to make and came out cold and accompanied by a pretty unimpressive salad, and all for the low low price of...$14? Sans tip? Don't get be wrong, I'll spend some money on food, but even at hip food hall places in bigger cities and nicer locations than this, I get more for my money, and I've been to a few of these food hall places. And frankly, even in BR I've had plenty of better meals. The upside here is obvious: you can come here as a vegetarian or even a vegan and have some nice options in a vegetarian-unfriendly Southern town. But even with that market cornered, I was a long way from being impressed with this place. I wish I could give MJ's six stars!!! I just visited their new location for the first time, it's just down the street from their previous location in White Star Market. They're in the old Tiger Deauxnuts building. They have done up the space so nicely!! It's beautiful and airy with lots of plants scattered throughout. And their bathrooms are just gorgeous with fresh hip wallpaper (two gender neutral bathrooms available). Now the food... I'm so so happy that they brought the French sandwich back!!! It's an Apple, goat cheese, greens, and pepper jelly sandwich on ciabatta bread. Honestly it might be my favorite sandwich on this earth. The French also comes with a side soup, so I got the soup of the day, which was Roasted Corn & Garlic soup... which might be my favorite soup on this earth!!! And it was only $10.95 for the sandwich and soup. The other people I was with got the salad of the week and said it was amazing as well. All in all, MJ's food is to die for. I really like MJ's vegan/vegetarian/GF friendly menu. I'm a pescatarian and my sister is a Celiac (must be gluten free) vegetarian, and we always have lots of options to choose from here! I came with my sister one day in the middle of the week for lunch, and I am not let down with this decision. In the White Star Market, this kiosk looks the same as all of the other booths. In my review for the WSM I have already mentioned things like how this place is set up and the parking, so I will just stick to the food here. The squash soup tasted like spring. It was a comforting hot in the chilly day, and was a creamy blended soup. I thought it was wonderful. Their salad of the day was a delight. The salad had a mix of greens, small tomatoes, a crunch from a cracker of some sort and roasted potatoes that were just like croutons. Seriously. My sister and I had a whole discussion about these potatoes and how they might have been prepared to get them to this perfection. The vinaigrette dressing was perfectly tossed in the salad, not too overwhelming, just like the perfect accessory. Amazing. The service was good.
