Really really good Thai food. It goes under the radar but it's definitely worth a stop!

When you walk in, it immediately feels like you're in someone's grandma's house. Very cozy vibes, small place but plenty of tables. We started off with the satay, yummy! I really enjoyed the cucumber salad and the peanut sauce that it came with, and the chicken itself was delicious of course. Absolutely obsessed with the green curry crispy pork fried rice, so flavorful and delicious. I loved the texture of the pork, and the dish had a nice spice to it which we were warned about so that's always appreciated. The pad Thai was so good! I got the shrimp pad Thai add vegetables and the portions for everything were perfect. I was full with a good amount to take home still. Lastly, I tried the Thai tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had the perfect amount of sweet to it. So in addition to the delicious food, great portions, and wonderful service, I was very impressed by this place and will absolutely be back. read more

First time here, fell in love with the place. The green curry pork fried rice was very unique, and I say that coming from California and saturated competitive Asian districts. The flavor was incredible, I can't wait to be back to try it again. Aromatic and crunchy. The restaurant itself has been there since 2006 and is authentic Thai. The owners are so chill and friendly, they feed some stray cats that live under the shed outside, so the entire vibe is familiar and relaxed, so nice. It's one of those hidden gems in a worn down building. It's a dive from the outside but the lady on the inside makes the magic happen. The food prep and presentation was outstanding as was the quality and taste. I'll be going again next week and probably the next and the next! Don't let the outside fool you! This tiny Thai Restaurant is so cozy and inviting! It's a nice quiet place for an amazing authentic meal. It appears to be family owned and operated, and all of the staff is so friendly and attentive. My favorite dish is the Chicken Pad Thai, of course. We revisited Duang Tawan. Same lovely, shack of a restaurant, lol. But still has the best, by far, Thai food we have had in Baton Rouge. I had the same basil beef with rice. Chock full of onions, bell pepper, bamboo strips, beef, hot pepper, and a savory and semissweet sauce. Served over jasmine rice. They know how to cook their vegetables. Not until they are totally limp, but still having a tiny bit of crunch. The basil flavor is what I come for. So many Thai places cook with basil, but Duang Tawan knows how to infuse their dish with it. Staying on our top Thai list!!! Will be back. read more

Have seen this place on the side of the road for awhile and had been meaning to stop by, and I am glad I finally did! This is THE BEST THAI FOOD I have ever had. We got the beef larb, thai basil rice, and panang curry with shrimp. Everything was immaculate, especially the curry. The sauce was so good I had to drink what was left and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Ended with Mango sticky rice for desert and it had a pleasant balance of sweet and salty. 10/10 I wont even go anywhere else in the area for Thai anymore. read more

Holy spicy. I'm having trouble even thinking spicy about this review spicy because it's so spicy spicy. And I like spicy. But the "medium" (2/4 level spicy) is INSANE to me. My nose is running, eyes watering, stomach hurting after about 5 bites. But it tastes so good I wish I could keep eating (green curry tofu). I will have to mix this with extra rice just to be able to finish it. I will order mild next time for certain. I got the Panang and Tom Yum from here that's was pretty good, even my boyfriend he is Laos said that this place got the better Thai food he ever tried in BR. This is the mom-and-pop store, good environment, cozy and y'all know that when it is the family restaurant it always hit good!! The service is amazing, she is really caring she makes me feel like my mom. Plus if you are want it spicer they can do it too, for me that makes the food taste more like the original one, but don't do it if you can't handle good in spicy. Genuinely the best Thai restaurant in baton rouge. You can't go wrong. It's family owned and about as authentic as it gets. If the grandmother is the one making your food (almost always is) you can expect to get some real spice! They grow a lot of the herbs they use right on the property, too. I think it's probably underrated because the building is easy to miss and there's rarely a lot of people there, but believe me when I say this is a gem. One of my favorite places for sure! read more

Came here for lunch after I yelped some thai food in Baton Rouge. I saw tod mun on their online menu and I haven't had that in years so I convinced my friend to try it. It was alright. I got the drunken noodle, medium spicy, with fried tofu and a side of spring rolls. My friend got the pad see ew beef, mild. It was not mild, as they were sniffling through the whole meal. And mine was not medium; I'd say it was more in line with "spicy." Not that I dislike spicy food, but I order medium for a reason; I like a little kick without feeling it in my stomach, and I did end up feeling this. I have an ulcer so excessively spicy dishes are a no-go. Aside from this, the noodles had good flavor and I ended up finishing them later that night (I know... I'm a masochist apparently). The noodles were not the typical drunken noodle shape; they were a little thinner, not that this affected the flavor. Loved that they added plenty of fresh veggies. The tofu... eh. It didn't have a taste and I realized this was because it didn't get any of the sauce. It was breaded and fried and seemingly cooked separately, and then added to the top of the dish. I ended up treating it like an app and dipping it in my egg roll sauce. The spring rolls were tasty, but I'd have preferred the tod mun which was apparently no longer on the menu. There is no indoor dining, but they will pack your food to go and you can eat on a pretty little patio surrounded by greenery. read more

Been eying this place for an opportunity to eat here for some time. I called in an order for take out. I was received warmly and was told a waiting time. Food was ready as promised. Now to the food review. We ordered the fried tofu, dumplings with meat, pad Thai, pad ped pla, and sticky mango rice. The fried tofu had a good crispness to it and the sauce went well together. The dumpling with meat is unique and compact. It had good texture, however it was a little oily, but that is to be expected with the way it's cooked. The pad Thai beef is a tale of two, the noodles or the entree were on point. However the beef was left to be desired, which in our opinion was a little over cooked /too chewy to our like. This could be personal preference. The pad ped la was the star for me, I asked for the spice to be mild, and whew it still had a good kick. The fish and the egg plant surprisingly goes very well in this dish and combine it with rice. Simply delicious! Last, was desert, the mango sticky rice, was refreshing and palate pleaser. Overall, we would dine here again, the flavor profiles were awesome and delighted my buds. read more

I ordered the spring rolls, tom kah, and spicy basil noodles (or drunken noodles) with chicken. The tom kah was great but super watery. I've never had such watery tom kah- the consistency seemed a bit odd to me. The spring rolls were okay- they were pretty small and I felt like they were overpriced relative to the portion and taste. The spicy basil noodles were super greasy and almost unbearably spicy. I couldn't really enjoy the dish since it felt like my mouth was on fire. Also, the noodles resulted in some unpleasant and unexpected... stomach issues. I'm guessing this outcome is a result of how greasy the food was. On a positive note, I did like how fast, safe, and easy it was to pick up the to-go order. The restaurant takes ApplePay and is very COVID safe. read more

Untill I am fortunate enough to be a baller and own a beach front villa in Thailand I'll just be over here...constantly craving a good Thai place. I crave Pad Thai all the time so when I noticed this place on my way in to Baton Rouge I knew I'd eat here and I'm so glad I did. The space is small but cozy. It truly feels like you are eating at your neighbors home. The service is beyond friendly. Our drinks were never more than 3/4 empty and the waitress who served us was so nice. My Shrimp Pad Thai was very good and I enjoyed every bite. So much so that I wanted it the next day and the next... We gave Duang Tawan a try for our recent date night. We are parents of a toddler now and our village is nonexistent, therefore date nights are few and far between. We have been wanting to try this place and last night was the night. Firstly, I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It reminded me and my partner of eating at a grandparent's home. It had such a cozy and homey feel. The carved wood tables are beautiful and I love the artwork. One of the best things about it is that there is no TV and no music. We love this because all you hear is the clatter of the kitchen and the sound of others. My partner got the Panang Curry with pork. I got the Pad See Ewe with beef and we shared some spring rolls. The spring rolls were delicious and the sauce was sweet and sour. Very delicious. I enjoyed my husband's dish much more than mine. I don't like spicy foods, but it was bland. It lacked flavor. I found myself wishing it had basil or more vegetables. My husband's curry was an explosion of flavor. The medium was pretty hot, but he added more chili oil because he likes to suffer. I found my new favorite restaurant!!! It's Duang Tawan! I know it's definitely not new, but it's brand new to me! I'm sad I hadn't tried it before, especially since they'll be closed from September to November (but not until after this next upcoming weekend). The food is absolutely amazing! So much flavor and spiced to your preference! I made myself stop half way through my meal to have leftovers because I didn't want to stop eating it! Everything has deep flavor like it's been cooking for days I love all types of Asian, but this Thai restaurant has my heart We had the chicken satay appetizer (ate before I could take a pic oops ), Eggplant with chicken entree (the very best eggplant I've ever had in my life!), broccoli and sauce with chicken entree, spicy soup with beef noodle soup topped with chopped peanuts The owners and staff were so nice and so attentive! In summary: My favorite fried rice in town!! Food: Neither me nor my friends have ever had a bad dish here. My absolute favorite entree is the Pineapple Fried Rice. You can choose which protein to add, and I get the tofu & vegetables (love that there's a vegetarian protein option!) It's the perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors. My friends have gotten other dishes such as the Spicy Basil Fried Rice, Pad Thai, and Chicken Curry, and all were wonderful. Service/Atmosphere: Everyone is so nice there! We came with a group of 8 and they accommodated for us perfectly. They can also accommodate for children. They have TV on one wall but it's either quiet or muted because I don't remember hearing a loud TV. They have nice Thai-style paintings and decorations throughout the restaurant. You pay at the counter after you eat so it's easy to split the bill for a large group. I would definitely recommend Duang Tawan for a delicious Thai dinner with friends or family! :) read more
