    A Meatball Po-Boy and dessert
    Keith H.

Cannatella Grocery is an amazing new addition to the Government Street Arts and Entertainment District. It is the second location of a small Italian grocery store and deli. The original location has been in operation in Melville, LA, since 1923. It is a cozy place, filled with specialty items as well as familiar brands. But the really great stuff is the prepared foods. There is a deli, which has a limited but excellent selection of sandwiches. These include one fine Muffuletta, which can be had in quarters, haves, or whole. The Meatball Po-Boy and Italian Beef are also excellent. I advise a serving of pasta salad to go with these. Maybe a package of specialty olives too... In addition to the deli, there are cold cases with plenty of wonderful heat and eat options. These pre-made meals include pasta choices and of course lasagna. There are other special products such as quality sausages and meats to browse and try. I'm always glad to find a different thing to try on the shelves as well. Check out the Italian cookies, pastries and sweets, the pickles, and preserves. There's plenty of unique items waiting to be discovered.

My mom and I were headed to dinner up the street and this cute little ma & pa shop caught our eye. The store is petite and tidy with all the fixings. The owner (I assume) was very friendly. They even had some relish my mom had been looking for. Shop locally!

Best muffuletta in Louisiana. Aside from the amazing selection of gourmet grocery items, their ready to go lasagna and sausages are out of this world. Of course the deli items are outstanding. I always make it a point of swinging by anytime I'm passing through Baton Rouge.

This a super cute speciality grocery store that has all things Italian. They offer sandwiches during lunch and have a good selection of prepared foods that are perfect for picking up on your way home. They have everything from baked goods and pastas and pickles and olives. The store is very cute and the staff couldn't be nicer.

The Porchetta sandwich is one of the best deli sandwiches I've had in a long time. I have to go back to try everything else. They have prepared foods, they process their own meat, then have plenty of local seasonings, and last but not least, ice cold IBC root beer in the glass bottle. I've met Pam, the owner, and she was so nice. These are good people with a great product. Support them!

Great muff, fresh bread, cheese and meats. The olive salad is as good as it gets. The pasta salad is unbelievable; all fresh ingredients and the perfect level of spicy. They have a wide variety of prepared dishes and any Italian grocery item that you can think of.

    Fresh made cannoli!

This is my new go-to spot for Italian cheeses and wine, heatable at-home lunches, dinners, fresh pasta (it's phenomenal!!!) and dessert (the cannoli was superb- even got approval from my partner who had them often in Rome). They have a great selection that is priced similarly to other places we would go for specialty or imported groceries (Whole Foods, etc) and we'd much rather support local. So happy to have found this gem on Government Street. We'll be back!

    Muffuletta

I finally got to try the muffuletta. The bread was so fresh. They have a very cute grocery that stocks some gourmet foods, cheeses, gluten free mixes, nut butters, party foods, marinades, gelatos, and their own meats, boudin, sausages. Very nice!!

Delicious roust beef and meatball sandwiches. The muffulettas are also amazing.

This is by far the least crowded TJ's that I've been to so that was fun, though I wasn't able to find everything that I came in to look for. I called ahead on last Tuesday to ask if they had beefless bulgogi and a designated section for their meatless frozen products. I was told that they did, but guess what, I scoured the frozen selection and did not indeed find it. There was hardly anyone working on the floor which is pretty rare. Everything was mixed up into one which made it difficult to locate anything and was a bit annoying considering I was already pressed for time and needed to get to Mississippi. The plants out front was reasonably priced and I bought a few. On the way out to checkout, I chose Manager, Trinity line, but Trinity did not speak with me at all. She didn't even acknowledge me. It was very weird and not something that I've ever experienced at any TJ's that I've been to. Usually, the cashiers are the most bubbly out of any grocery store that I've shopped at. I prefer to shop at TJ's because of their solid products and their cashiers. I think next time I stop here, I won't go through Trinity's line. It was weird since the guy before me, was greeted and got a smile from her, but I asked her how she was doing and she treated me like a tree. Anyways, I tried the TJ's exclusive licorice and it was the real deal. The mango, raspberry, and green apple mix pack was very solid and tasty. I damn near ate the whole bag last night. I got it because it has actual licorice paste in it and not just high fructose corn syrup. Another snack that I like are the sweetened orange slices by TJ's; so very delicious, but another extremely the best snack are the jerk plantain chips. I love TJ's, but I wish TJ's was located in every state, so that all people can experience the goodness of the store. This location is pretty much in a safe looking area of Baton Rouge and not too far from I-10. The parking lot is shared with other establishments. I'll definitely be back.

Can't tell you how excited I am that we got an Aldi's near by now. 3rd trip here since it opened…read morethe end of August. Finally got to take my husband so he can experience it. The parking lot and inside the store is beautifully kept clean. Spacious yet small. The friendly employees make it so nice to shop there. I had my quarter ready to get a buggy and an older man gave me his. I tried giving him my quarter and he said no because someone had given him the buggy when he got there. So when we left I did the same thing and passed the buggy along. I spent about $25 on just meat which after bagging up I got 13 meals out of for our family. Spent $107.00 and got so much more than we would had at another store.

Someone compared it to Trader Joe's but definitely not as they don't have grab and go type meals. They do have lots of produce, meats and cheeses, frozen foods, and dry foods plus some home decor items. For some reason, it felt more like a warehouse to me as many items on display were in their shipping boxes opened up to grab one or many. The store was very open with high ceilings and no wait to check out as it's mostly self-checkout. Advised to bring your own bags. Some brands I recognized and some I did not. I saw employees stocking inventory and some at a customer service register but not a one greeted me, so again not like Trader Joe's. I have since been told of some specialty items to look out for, so rest assured, I'll be back for the "red bag chicken" aka "the chick-fil-a knock off chicken". Per advice from a friend, "If done right, air fryer or even in the oven, it's so good!! We call em (and I'm gonna spell as we pronounce in Southern accent) Chickee-feelays. Or chickees for short ."
