A fun way to experience a little French cuisine and ambiance. I went here for lunch on a Saturday, and it was pretty busy, but such a vibe! There are tons of options for food. I was craving a sanwhich, so I got the half Caprese sandwich with a side of fruit. You order at the counter, and if part of your meal can be made right there, then it is. The fruit could be made right there, so they gave me the fruit cup and then gave me a number for my sandwich. It took a minute for the sandwich to come out, but they have free bread slices by the fountain machine that I got while I waited. When my sandwich came out, I devoured it. It was so good and hot...just how I like it. There is no Coke products here, only Pepsi, so beware of that. When you are done, you just leave the tray/plate and they come get it. Pleasantly surprisingly good! I wasn't sure how Caprese would do as a sandwich, especially with mixing balsamic and mayonnaise. That's where the surprise came from - it is really, really good! The baguette was toasted to perfection and balanced the amount of cheese very well. The pasta was refreshing and also surprisingly good. I thought it would be a very "tomatoey" salad, but it wasn't. All flavors are well balanced, mostly. Personally, I'm not a fan of green onions, so to me this pasta was a little heavy on those, but easy enough to pick them out. The Turkey Bistro also very delicious! The sun dried tomato mayo goes so well with the turkey. The toasted bread is a little hard so be cautious of that if it can be an issue. Tomato basil soup was very good, a little too chunky for my taste but still taste good. Loved the free dipping bread for soaking up all the delicious soups and sauces. I've had take out from here a couple years ago and I remember enjoying it, but haven't had their actual savoury food in a while. My fellow nurses and I placed lunch orders to go at 10:00 for 11:00 pickup. Upon arrival, my coworker was told that they didn't receive our orders (11 orders individually placed that we all received confirmations for). They eventually found the orders and said it would take an hour to make. She said that was fine, she would be happy to wait. Moments later, the man came back out and said he wouldn't be able to complete the orders and we would have to settle for a refund. We are busy nurses working hard on a Sunday and just wanted to enjoy a nice lunch. Never again La Madeleine. We'll take our business elsewhere. I'm sorry to report that this visit has ruined our faith in the quality of food provided to an order. My wife order avocado toast and the picture shows our result. We were shocked. I suggested we send it back, and my wife was just disgusted with the small single piece of $4.89 toast with a small semblance of avocado on it. She did not want me to cause a scene. I went myself and considered talking to someone, but could not identify anyone in charge, so we let it go. Why even put us in this position? Why even send something like this out of the kitchen? I struggled with choosing a rating because I normally eat here in person and everything is fine, but placed a to go order for the first time today and it didn't go very well. Of the 5 items I ordered, all had something wrong with them compared to what I usually receive when eating at the restaurant. 1. French Dip Sandwich was missing au jus and there was way too much mayo. 2. Potato soup had bacon but no cheese (arguably the best part of potato soup). 3. Green beans almondine portion was tiny and had no almonds. 4. Cranberry pecan salad portion (full size) was so small it would barely even pass as a $3 side salad. 5. Sea salt baguette was significantly over cooked. That being said, the staff tonight was very friendly as usual. Starting with the positive: the employees were friendly, prompt, and helpful. Now for the rest of the review. I'm sure like so many businesses they are short staffed but the missteps were too many to overlook and I think La Madeline has seen it's better days. The first red flag we should have noticed first was that there was zero wait on a Sunday morning at 11 in Baton Rouge. But we were bordering hangry so we went for it. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for the best. It started with ordering. The lady at the counter taking our order asked if we were all together. I said, "yes, but we are all on our own check." Evidently that was not as clear of a statement as I thought. We get to register and it was all one ticket, but fortunately at this point no one in line behind us so they were able to straighten it out and cashier was kind l, apologetic, and professional. As the first to pay her bill, I went to find our party of 5 a table. I stood examining the plethora of tables that were available but it took a minute to determine if tables were in bad shape with scratches and missing stain or if it was food crumbs; turns out it was both. So I went with the best available option. I asked the man who was busing a table right next to us to wipe the table off and he kindly did immediately but unfortunately never went back to the table he was cleaning when I interrupted. Reason being he was now delivering everyone's food. For the most part they got our orders right, other than one plate having bacon and not sausage, another missing tomatoes, and one other plate with scrambled, not over medium eggs. But like I said most was right ‍ Oh yeah and the ice coffee that one ordered was a latte in a coffee cup and a cup of ice so we had to make the magic happen. There was also only 2 bottle of ketchup, we lucked out and got the one that was more filled than the other and only 2 of us got a spray of ketchup. From what we could tell there were also only about 3 sets of salt and pepper shakers in the building. Food quality: meh. Food was bland and in no way impressive. Croissant was pretty good. After our order we kept hearing them shot out all of the things they were out of, "no more orders of potatoes...out of grapes...no more..." To say we were all thoroughly disappointed is an understatement. The 2 stars are for the employees that were present, they all had a great attitude even though their stress was obvious. Do better La Madeline for Baton Rouge. Fix the tables and over all condition of the restaurant. The employees are making your recipes- add some flavor and make sure they have what they need to supply the orders. I think these improvements would likely improve the condition and quality of the restaurant which would attract more staff looking to make good money. read more

There are some specialties that people always come back for, like the quiches and tomato-basil soup. There are light choices, like the three salad plate. Then there are hearty pasta and roasted dishes for serious suppers. They are also a great place to eat breakfast, offering omelets and my favorite French Breakfast Plate. Some people are confused about the ordering process, but it is actually really easy. First grab a menu from the rack and decide on something, then go to the cafeteria-style serving line and place your order. Items that are ready will be served to you there, you will receive a numbered wooden spoon for items that require preparation-these will be brought out to your table. Pay at the end of the line, and go get your drink and seat yourself. Make sure to visit the bread-bar by the drinks to get sliced goodness and jams to nibble on or to accent your meal. Soon, you will have your prepared items brought to your table and traded for the numbered wooden spoon. It is pretty easy once you get the hang of it! There is a separate area for to-go meals and bakery items. This is for picking up that tart to take home! My friend and I came here a few weeks ago for our post workout meal/ pre dinner. We were greeted when we walked in and immediately helped by the manager who took our orders. We both ordered a salad sampler with Caesar salads (I added chicken to mine), strawberries romanoff, tomato basil pesto pasta salad, tomato basil soup, and French onion soup. Everything tasted amazing as usual and the portions were very generous. The tables are always very clean and the staff are always super friendly. We adore ordering several dozen desserts to serve when we have guest over, they are pretty and delicious. My only qualm is the woman manager at the Perkins Rowe location. She often speaks to the staff in a very rude unprofessional manner. With an elegant ambiance and vibes of simplicity, La Madeleine is a great place to enjoy a coffee and dessert on during a quiet afternoon or early evening. I came here for the first time in May and came away impressed knowing that low key places that weren't called "Starbucks" still existed in these parts of the country. Though I'm not crazy about coffee, I actually enjoyed my little sips of a cappuccino here. I also was impressed with their yummy desserts and wide selection of everything from cookies to quiches. The spinach quiche was by far my favorite, even if it was more of a pie than it was a dessert. What an Italian dessert like the Tiramisu was doing in a French-themed bakery, I'm not sure but I am sure of how fluffy, light, and delicious it was. Prices were also decent, as was the service behind the counter. If one is blessed enough to have good company in town, aim for this place above all others. The croissant was a little pricy, but it was good. The soup was very good. I am not a bit tomato soup fan, but I will get this again! It was a bit confusing to order with several counter's to choose from. I was not sure where I was supposed to be. I followed the crowd and figured it out. All of the silverware stations were out of forks, and low on knives. Plenty of spoons though. And the person behind the counter was new. It was his second day and he was back there alone. I don't know if they got new management or something, but LA Madeline has gone from one my favorite places to eat to somewhere I wouldn't take my worst enemy. I ordered a croque monsiuer with chips, as well as a tomato soup in a bowl. They gave me the soup in a cup, which I had to send back, they forgot my chips, and the sandwich was less than half the size of what it was only 2 weeks before, yet it's the same price. The chips are now generic lays brand instead of the fresh made ones, and my girlfriends grilled cheese came out burned. The silverware was coated in dirty water, and the bread was in low supply and wasn't ever restocked. It's gonna take a miracle if this place stays open until the end of the year. read more

Had an offensive experience...so I visited the restaurant today and I was on my lunch from work, well order and takeout was closed and pickup was only open. Waited in line for two ladies to place and receive order, during the wait another lady came and stood to the side with her items. After the 2 ladies proceeded to move, lady on side steps up to counter in front and cashier proceeds to check her out...now I'm pissed bc in customer svc. You should be fair. Asked the young cashier " did you not find it rude the lady skipped?" She said, oh she can be like that sometimes. Normally I would walk away from rude environment but since my employer purchased me a gift card, I went on to place my order but I will never visit the location on Bluebonnet ever again, bc apparently my money is not as good nor am I.
