Shrimp Caprese Flatbread

It's been a good whule since we've been here. We both had Flatbreads, Shrimp Caprese and French Dip. Was great, loved the cook on the flatbread and seasoning was on point. Everyone was attentive and friendly

Pot roast triple crown cheese with gumbo....flavorless sandwich with runny, flavorless soup

The remote location adds flair to this lovely little bistro. The gift shop is full of fun and eclectic things that anyone would be happy to splurge on. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff are wonderful! The food..the food....while beautiful and plated so lovely, it was just so FLAVORLESS!!!! The gumbo was runny and tasted like glorified dish water. The hot seafood dip with very good. But the other entrees we received were just blah. They were so pretty and our appetizer was so great, that my party was hopeful. But alas, it was very disappointing.

Egg and cheese biscuit, tomato soup

I have no idea how we ended up here for brunch on a Sunday am, but we did - I blame it on Yelp. The usual suspects looked boring and this place seemed British themed, and we had just returned from London.. I guess all that combined did it, ha! Anyways, I was kind of disappointed. The cafe itself shares premises with the little souviner shop, which was kind of sad, yet super overpriced, but whatever. I think what Anurag and I were MOST confused about what the purpose of the whole place - is it a wedding venue? A historical venue? Did they do tours? I don't know, nothing made sense. We would have loved a tour of the place - gave me a bit of a plantation feel, but there was no one to explain anything etc. ALso, their website is sort of incomplete and VERY lacking in information to be honest. Anyway, since we were hungry, we went in for the food after all. I can't say I was disappointed - the food was actually very decent. I had the egg sandwich on a biscuit. The biscuit iself was delicious and the egg was fine too, but the portion size was kind of small. The biscuit was definitely not " giant southern" as described on the menu. I also had a cup of the tomato soup, which was okay - nothing to write home about. Anurag had the chicken caesar flatbread, which I thought was pretty tasty. The greens were well dressed and the parmesan on top made it taste nutty and over all it was a successful dish. As we sat there, we saw only 2 people man about 5 - 6 tables + prepare orders at the same time. The process was a bit haphazard and if you needed something, you were better off just walking to the cafe counter itself. The place itself honestly felt like it was falling to pieces - everything seemed broken and faded. Will I be back? Not likely, to be honest.

Noble Chicken Salad

Great spot! If you haven't tried it since the ownership change, you haven't tried it! Although we were a bit surprised that crepes were no longer on the menu, everything we had was delicious. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip and the blistered tomato soup, but the highlight was the Noble Chicken Salad (photo attached). The salad consists of mixed greens with a tangy champagne vinaigrette with toasted, spiced pecans and plump, tangy raisins topped with an avocado half filled with their excellent chicken salad -- big chunks of tender, juicy breast meat tossed in a dressing with just a hint of curry (not enough to scream, "Curry!", just enough to make it interesting. Pro Tip: Save the raisins for a quasi-dessert.

Pot roast grilled cheese

I had the opportunity to try this restaurant out the other day and I have to say, in my opinion, it was less than stellar. Upon walking in, there was an air of "coldness". We weren't really greeted as well as receiving odd looks from the guests. When we get to the counter to order, naturally we had a few questions as this was our first time coming here. The young man did answer the questions, but he looked obviously aggravated and all he did was answer the questions. He didn't suggest anything nor did he point us in any helpful directions. As for the food, we both tried the pot roast grilled cheese and gumbo. The sandwich was tasty although a dash of salt wouldn't have hurt. The gumbo was ok too, although it was a little "thin" for my taste. Overall I think the concept is pretty cool, however I can not see myself frequenting this establishment. For all the charm in decor, it completely lacked in warmth.

Egg white omelette.

I can't speak for the sandwiches or lunch, but the breakfast/brunch was mediocre at best. My husband order a breakfast sandwich which was literally a biscuit slapped open with scrambled eggs and 3 little pieces of bacon. I ordered the egg white omelette with goat cheese which is extra. I think I got less than a teaspoon worth. The omelette was the saddest thing I've ever seen. It was more veggies than actual omelette. It's very overpriced for what you get. There are far better places to eat breakfast than here. The service was slow even though it wasn't that busy.

Entrance (it's off the street set back a bit can be a little tricky to spot.)

This place is so cool! So glad I found it tucked away off the street on Highland. It's set back off the street so VERY easy to miss. And there's only a sign for the boutique it isn't clear that there's a bistro back here. You walk up to the left side of the counter (two separate registers,) and grab a menu to order. They have a daily special board and today's Brisket grilled cheese was to die for. They have a prepackaged food wall also, and cocktails / wine. I love the indoor and outdoor seating and they are also an event venue. It's a very classy and cute atmosphere, great for a day out with friends. The merchandise and apparel, as well as jewelry and gourmet treats was a perfect mix. You can come to just eat, or eat and shop. While also enjoying the beautiful outdoor weather (when we have it.) Service was great, they brought the food to my table and made sure to check on me. Will definitely be back with friends!

The B&E Crêpe - Boudin Stuffed with an egg, cracklin, and Steen's Cane Syrup on top.

The Crown is a small cafe with big flavor located inside The Royal Standard on Highland(Closer to Blue Bayou). The team is small, normally 2 to 3 people working, but they are extremely efficient and nice. I've been here multiple times and they never disappoint. The items normally have a unique and flavorful combination that makes you want to try more things. They also have different special items daily. The value is also great. You receive a pretty good amount of great food for not a huge price. The French Truck coffee is so aromatic and refreshing. Be sure to check them out for lunch or brunch.

Nice venue. Poor service. The event staff wasn't helpful and didn't have great customer service skills. I wouldn't recommend for an event.

Iverstine is a great lunch spot in Baton Rouge…read more I am always on the lookout for new lunch spots. We often hit up the safe few and it's hard to get the team to venture out. I saw Iverstines in a YouTube clip and it looked intriguing. Apparently it's intriguing to lots of people because it was packed when we went. Despite the crowd, the wait was brief and the staff was friendly and keeping people moving. On our first visit we got sandwiches. The Cuban was a great choice. It was everything a Cuban should be. I would've liked more mustard but it was the best Cuban I've had in BR. Next trip we did a plate lunch. At the recommendation of a dude in line, I got the Tri tip. Solid choice. The green beans on the side were very good. In addition to the lunches, Iverstine is a full butcher. I will report back when I try some of their pre packed stuff. PS. They sell a hat with a piece of bacon on it that says Thiccccc. If anyone wants to get me that as a Christmas gift, I promise to change my profile photo to me in that hat.

The interior is super cute with long tables with stools and smaller tables with chairs. There are even a few booths tucked away. Our bartender was super sweet and patient with us during out first visit and even helped us pick out beers that we might like. It's interesting to note how many other reviews note a plethora of IPAs - my guess is this is seasonal because there were lots of malty stouts in early March. I love a rotating menu, so this makes me excited to go back. I was between the Wendy Peffercorn and Field of Nightmares (I think? It was a chocolate peanut butter stout.). The bartender let me try both and it was hard to choose! I ended up with Wendy Peffercorn, but I definitely would have been happy with either. Looking forward to going back, maybe even for Trivia night on Tuesdays! FYI - this business participates in PubPass and even though their website doesn't indicate food service, it looks like they rotate pizzas of the day.

This place is awesome. I think it is the best BBQ in Baton Rouge and one of the best in Louisiana…read more The fact that I have let this draft sit for so long is ridiculous. I couldn't wait to be one of the first customers at this location. You see, I read an article that mentioned there was a version of this restaurant in MS near the coast. That was a huge bummer since I spent the majority of time out there and never knew it existed. But, you don't care about me, you want to know about the que! I am a Texas BBQ fanatic. If I could eat brisket every day, I would. The problem is that for many many years, no one in Louisiana understood good Texas style BBQ. That all changed when folks like Nola Smokehouse and later Gonzo's (The current champ) came arond and showed us what we were missing. Salt, Pepper, Oak (SPO) is one of the latest in the modern LA BBQ joints that does the best Texas BBQ a LA boy could hope for. Brisket - This is my primary reason for coming. It is always smoky, flavorful, and oh so briskety. If you have had real deal Texas BBQ, you know what real brisket is like. This is it. It is delicious. Everything else - Thats the thing with SPO. It is so much more than just brisket. When I am feeling a little wild, I get brisket and something else. The excellent something elses include turkey breast, wings, sausage, and those tallow fries. All are as good as the brisket. Trust me when I tell you, this place is legit. The location is in an industrial area but is well laid out, and there is plenty of seating. Pay with a card in the line, make your drink, grab utensils, and grab a seat. They bring your food to you. The whole process is super easy and you will love it. PS. Their mustard based sauce is the best I have ever had. Send me the recipe if anyone has it. Please!

Wow! What a hidden gem!…read more The breakfast menu has some great choices and I will certainly be back for lunch. Kinda pricey for breakfast, but if you order the Pitmaster or The Morning Fix, you'll probably have enough for lunch, too. Right off the bat, the tomato based creole sauce on the smoked gouda grits is a serious competitor for star of the show alongside the brisket. It is fabulous!! (I wish I knew what they seasoned it with so I could get my tomato gravy to taste that good.). About the brisket - it's as good as any you will find in the Texas Hill Country, and better than some of those. On a biscuit with a good runny egg, it just doesn't get better than that. The smoked sausage was kind of dry, not great. But everything else is really great. The potatoes are cut in larger pieces than I prefer, but they've still managed to get them good and crispy. If the breakfast is any indication, then the rest of the menu must be great!
