The protein bites are my favorite snack! I love how this is in The Royal Standard! I got a lunch to-go after shopping. I got the fig pizza, which came with a Caesar salad, and the oatmeal protein bites. After I ordered, it didn't take long to make and the protein bites are in the freezer so I just grabbed those. The remote location adds flair to this lovely little bistro. The gift shop is full of fun and eclectic things that anyone would be happy to splurge on. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff are wonderful! The food..the food....while beautiful and plated so lovely, it was just so FLAVORLESS!!!! I've been coming here for years but it just recently struck me that I've not yet written a review! I can see from previous posts that a lot of people are confused about the concept of this restaurant so I wanted to elaborate on that too! If you're coming here for a full "restaurant" experience then yes, you will be confused or even disappointed. If you're looking for a hidden gem of a spot with great specials, prepared party appetizers and a great boutique shopping spot look no further! I really enjoy the weekly specials here as well as the events. Follow them on social media or sign up for their email list to find out about tastings, food truck nights and even painting parties that are held in the back event venue space. I've been here shopping and getting happy hour drinks with friends as well as catching brunch on a Sunday while out running errands. I've been in touch with the event coordinator about planning future parties as well and love the space they have and overall concept plus the catering they provide is exactly what you experience in the bistro. I'm sad for anyone who didn't get the experience they were expecting when dining here but I also wish there were more places like it! read more

I have no idea how we ended up here for brunch on a Sunday am, but we did - I blame it on Yelp. The usual suspects looked boring and this place seemed British themed, and we had just returned from London.. I guess all that combined did it, ha! Anyways, I was kind of disappointed. The cafe itself shares premises with the little souviner shop, which was kind of sad, yet super overpriced, but whatever. I think what Anurag and I were MOST confused about what the purpose of the whole place - is it a wedding venue? A historical venue? Did they do tours? I don't know, nothing made sense. We would have loved a tour of the place - gave me a bit of a plantation feel, but there was no one to explain anything etc. ALso, their website is sort of incomplete and VERY lacking in information to be honest. Anyway, since we were hungry, we went in for the food after all. I can't say I was disappointed - the food was actually very decent. I had the egg sandwich on a biscuit. The biscuit iself was delicious and the egg was fine too, but the portion size was kind of small. The biscuit was definitely not " giant southern" as described on the menu. I also had a cup of the tomato soup, which was okay - nothing to write home about. Anurag had the chicken caesar flatbread, which I thought was pretty tasty. The greens were well dressed and the parmesan on top made it taste nutty and over all it was a successful dish. As we sat there, we saw only 2 people man about 5 - 6 tables + prepare orders at the same time. The process was a bit haphazard and if you needed something, you were better off just walking to the cafe counter itself. Wow! So glad our family of four tried out The Crown Bistro finally! We were all impressed with the menu, the setup and ambiance, the service, and of course how incredibly delicious the food was and the beautiful presentation of it. The location is actually quite convenient to a lot of Baton Rouge since Pecue Road has grown into a great cut through from so many angles. We entered through the front of The Royal Standard (as somehow we missed any hints to drive through the gates and park outside The Crown lol). A bit of temptation walking through The Royal Standard, but luckily my girls weren't too grabby as we were hungry for brunch. Workers at the Royal Standard were helpful to ask what we needed and point us in the direction of the bistro. We nearly walked through the entire store to find it, but no one gave us a look; just reassurance that we were headed the right way. ;-) When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised to see how clean the setup was and soak up the smells of deliciousness. They were busy but not as much as we had anticipated considering we did get there shortly after they opened (glad we did!). The menu was fairly short, but honestly, it was still tough to decide as everything sounded delicious. So we ordered a small variety, and everything was indeed delicious! I ordered the Avocado Toast, and it's truly my new favorite breakfast food. I'm not usually a huge fan of poached eggs, but this one had just the right drizzle. The flavors of this dish were spot on. My husband tried the Boudin and Cracklin crepe, and based on the bites I snuck, I'd say that was a great dish too. My girls got scrambled eggs and bacon (special order) and the Nutella and blueberry crepe. I also had to try out the crepe with chocolate pecan homemade sauce. Let me know say that the food was plentiful, but not a bite was left on our plates. The hubs and I also tried out a couple coffee options, and my cappuccino was pretty yummy as well. So, great service, ambience, and food, I'd say this place was a hit. The prices seemed pretty on target for the quality of the ingredients and the presentation as well. Only couple of tips would be to add some background music and real utensils if possible. So cool that all the plates, cups, and utensils they use are plant based and biodegradable, but they just aren't strong enough unfortunately. Great spot! If you haven't tried it since the ownership change, you haven't tried it! Although we were a bit surprised that crepes were no longer on the menu, everything we had was delicious. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip and the blistered tomato soup, but the highlight was the Noble Chicken Salad (photo attached). The salad consists of mixed greens with a tangy champagne vinaigrette with toasted, spiced pecans and plump, tangy raisins topped with an avocado half filled with their excellent chicken salad -- big chunks of tender, juicy breast meat tossed in a dressing with just a hint of curry (not enough to scream, "Curry!", just enough to make it interesting. Pro Tip: Save the raisins for a quasi-dessert. read more

Haven't been here since before all the Covid-19 lock-downs started mid-March last year. Just started back to work and thought I'd come get one of those wonderful lunches I remember. Well, it just wasn't the same. There were 3 ladies working behind the counter, food prep, cashier and service. But, that was reasonable since there were maybe 4 people (including myself) there. The ladies were very nice. However, the food prep seemed just like what was noted in a previous review from last month... haphazard. I really wanted their tomato basil soup. All out. So I ordered the Nobel Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwich with chips. When it came... got Cesar salad and no chips. The croissant was about the size of a croissant from Burger King. It was fresh, just small. Then... the chicken salad was not so "Nobel ". Not to sound overly critical, rather just a play on their sandwich name... more of a "pauper" chicken salad. It looked like chicken pate. (No accent on my keyboard for the "e") There was some fresh spinch. That's it. It was tasty but nothing like it was or what is pictured here. To top it off, with less than what it had been, all of this was $10. One glass of tea, no refill, was $2.50. Even with all the shortages suppliers claim due to Covid-19, I know they can get the walnuts, grapes, etc. to make the salad as advertised. Just very disappointing. read more

I had the opportunity to try this restaurant out the other day and I have to say, in my opinion, it was less than stellar. Upon walking in, there was an air of "coldness". We weren't really greeted as well as receiving odd looks from the guests. When we get to the counter to order, naturally we had a few questions as this was our first time coming here. The young man did answer the questions, but he looked obviously aggravated and all he did was answer the questions. He didn't suggest anything nor did he point us in any helpful directions. As for the food, we both tried the pot roast grilled cheese and gumbo. The sandwich was tasty although a dash of salt wouldn't have hurt. The gumbo was ok too, although it was a little "thin" for my taste. Overall I think the concept is pretty cool, however I can not see myself frequenting this establishment. I've eaten here a bunch of times. In fact, my husband's work Christmas party was even here. What's great: the salads are REALLY good. Salads are totally one of those things that are way better when someone else makes them. -it's a cute casual place to meet up with people mid-day for lunch. -it's attached to an adorable store that's great for gift buying. -if you go, the Crown salad (the dressing is really great) and the Noble Chicken salad are both delicious. What's not so great: -Sometimes it just takes FOREVER to get your food, we're talking about salad with precooked chicken breast so 20 minutes + just doesn't make sense. -about 1/2 the time the order is wrong. My husband always asks for extra chicken salad or extra chicken on his salads and they almost never get it correct. Maybe this is an issue with their computers and the tickets printing for the person putting the food together. I imagine it's a confusing order to read or something. We will still continue going, and I still enjoy eating there, it could just use a few tweaks read more

I can't speak for the sandwiches or lunch, but the breakfast/brunch was mediocre at best. My husband order a breakfast sandwich which was literally a biscuit slapped open with scrambled eggs and 3 little pieces of bacon. I ordered the egg white omelette with goat cheese which is extra. I think I got less than a teaspoon worth. The omelette was the saddest thing I've ever seen. It was more veggies than actual omelette. It's very overpriced for what you get. There are far better places to eat breakfast than here. The service was slow even though it wasn't that busy. read more

This place is so cool! So glad I found it tucked away off the street on Highland. It's set back off the street so VERY easy to miss. And there's only a sign for the boutique it isn't clear that there's a bistro back here. You walk up to the left side of the counter (two separate registers,) and grab a menu to order. They have a daily special board and today's Brisket grilled cheese was to die for. They have a prepackaged food wall also, and cocktails / wine. I love the indoor and outdoor seating and they are also an event venue. It's a very classy and cute atmosphere, great for a day out with friends. The merchandise and apparel, as well as jewelry and gourmet treats was a perfect mix. You can come to just eat, or eat and shop. While also enjoying the beautiful outdoor weather (when we have it.) Service was great, they brought the food to my table and made sure to check on me. Will definitely be back with friends! read more

I met with some friends for Sunday brunch. We wanted a quiet place to catch up. It was Wonderful !! A nice variety salads, sandwiches and brunch entrees to select from. You do place your order at the counter then the staff brings it to you. Each order is made fresh . There was also a variety of beverages with or without alcohol. The wait was not long at all. The staff was very knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is nice and had the weather been warmer the side windows would have been open to the fresh air. The Crown is a small cafe with big flavor located inside The Royal Standard on Highland(Closer to Blue Bayou). The team is small, normally 2 to 3 people working, but they are extremely efficient and nice. I've been here multiple times and they never disappoint. The items normally have a unique and flavorful combination that makes you want to try more things. They also have different special items daily. The value is also great. You receive a pretty good amount of great food for not a huge price. The French Truck coffee is so aromatic and refreshing. Be sure to check them out for lunch or brunch. read more

Unprofessional event staff. I received a quote for a private event booking but when trying to book, that person is no longer employed. I then called and left a message and emailed for Caitlyn that I would still like to book my event. No response. Do not try to use this venue. They also told me one price and told my friend a completely different rate for the exact same thing. Clearly unorganized, and extremely poor management. Cute atmosphere. Was coming here with a friend. The young man working the counter was fairly courteous. As we were perusing the menu at the counter I got immediately turned off though. I'm in the health field and noticed a lady wearing purple gloves drinking from a cup several she got from Exxon, she rubbed her face a couple of times, had her hands all over the counter, grabbed 2 clear plastic cups for me and my friend and then shoveled them into the bin of ice all with the same gloves she was touching everything else with...I don't know how long she had them on and what else she may have touched but I was not going to risk eating anything she prepared and getting sick. We went to Jabbys instead and had a great time in a cleaner environment. Why don't these people understand that the gloves are to protect the patrons food/health? They are not wearing the gloves to protect their own hands. I don't want germs from the gas station, the counter, her nose in my food!
