3. Chicken and Gyro Combo Plate
John L. H.

I have discovered the best Mediterranean food in the Baton Rouge area. If you happen to live or work in BR you are lucky to have several very good Med restaurants to choose from. I thought I had found the best until a co-worker recommended this Roman's location. We usually hit up Roman's for lunch. If you need good food, good service, and to get in and out quickly, this should be on your list. Saying the food is good is a bit of an understatement though. It is legit great. My go-to is the combo gyro shawarma plate. It comes with rice, hummus, and a salad. I ditch the rice for extra hummus and they do that for no charge. The gyro is great but the shawarma is by far the best I have ever had. It is tender and juicy and as flavor-packed as any other food I have ever tried. I do not know how they do it, but it is impressive. My combo plate and water were around $16 before tip. While that isn't a cheap lunch it is about average for BR lunch places. I strongly recommend you add this to your list.

We stopped in for some Greek food when we realized our refrigerator was empty after returning from vacation. We had never been here and it was pretty close to our house so we thought we would try it out. It is hidden in a strip mall next to Smoothie King. First impression was a little under whelming. The place is small with only 10 tables and a small bar. But the smells coming from the kitchen were devine!!! We asked about some wine. The server recomend a Greek red, which I got and loved. BF got one one of the two white wines they had and he didn't care much for it. We started with an order of fried cheese. I ordered the meat moussaka with baba and hummus. BF got the gyro plate. The cheese came out pretty quickly. It was crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside and sitting in a creamy garlic sauce. Each dinner came with a greek salad, which was fresh and not too heavy on the greek dressing. The dinner plates arrived with some hot herb covered fresh pitas. Not sure they were house made, but they were so soft and light. The hummus and baba were very tasty and went well with the herbed pitas. The moussaka as soooooo good. Seasoned beef with eggplant and bechamel. Yum! They are uber eats, so we can get our greek fix if we are too lazy to get in the car and drive next time.

Busy lunch today

Let me start off by saying I loooove Roman's Cafe! At first, I used to just order the gyro plate, but one day I tried their Roman's salad with gyro and I fell in love with it!! It has romaine, feta, artichoke, grape leaves, falafel, onions, olives, tomatoes, tabouli, grecian sauce, dried tomatoes, and thin, crispy pita chips! You can add meat to it for an extra charge, which I always do. It's a great alternative if you're trying not to eat too much rice or pita. Their Roman's salad dressing is so addicting that I always ask for extra! My friend absolutely loves their flash grilled lamb and hot sauce and constantly raves about these two items, so make sure you try those too! The service here is always great and everyone is usually friendly. I've never had a bad experience at Roman's and definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area or from out of town!

Absolutely delicious. Fresh pita at the table as soon as we sat down. Courteous staff. Reasonable price for the quality/quantity. I couldn't be happier with my lunch.

I love this place, probably best gyro around. Too bad the landlord sucks at the govt location. It was right in our backyard

Best Greek in Baton Rouge. Everything is so fresh and their pita is so soft and homemade.

Albasha Greek & Lebanese Restaurant - Chicken Shawarma plate. So goooood and healthy

Never thought I would equate Middle Eastern cuisine with Baton Rouge. But it's a cuisine that…read morecomes to mind when I think of this city thanks to this spot along with the stellar reviews that accompany it. This is one of three Albasha locations in the southeast Louisiana area. Thank god this location is near our field office in Baton Rouge which is where I was assigned to in early October allowing me to dine at this spot for lunch. The dining area spacious with plenty of seating. It does get a lot of traffic during the weekday lunch hours; probably cause of the lunch specials that are offered which we took advantage of. The menu consists of your typical Mediterranean eats such as hummus, baba ganouj, stuffed grape leaves, spanakopita (spinach pie), chicken/beef schwarma, lamb shank, moussaka, and kabobs (just to name a few). Lunch specials involve plates which include a feta cheese salad, rice pilaf, and hummus that accompany the entrees. Ranging from $14-18, this is quite the steal, especially during times like these. The Lamb Shank lunch I ordered was delicious with plenty of food that I had to have a to-go box to bring the remainders with me. The chicken shwarma and vegetable platter were ordered by other parties who both loved them. And we also started with the fried cheese which is served in a bed of olive oil and spices with some cucumbers, tomatoes, and olives. Very tasty, especially with the vegetable garnishes. I need to get another assignment in Baton Rouge so I can come back here again!

I felt like I was back in the 80s at the bar Cheers. The regulars have been gate keeping but their secret is out now. One of their bartenders--Logan--was exceptional! Logan made me the best paper plan that I've ever had. I liked it more than my beloved Old Fashion. They've got a new regular in me.

Having lived…read morein Houston previously, where there were many great Greek and Mediterranean fares, this restaurant surpassed them all. The portions were perfect, the flavors all blended nicely, with nothing too salty, too bland, or overpowering other flavors in the dish. Their hummus and pita are all made fresh in house, and a must try for appetizer. I then ordered the rice, chicken and lemon soup bowl along with the politika meatballs. The soup is best described as slurping down comfort food. The meatballs were a blend of beef and lamb, which helped to bring down the bold flavor of lamb, and allowed all the flavors of the saganaki tomato sauce to complement. All of that still some left room for desserts. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices. They all looked good. I went with this custard filled filo that was drizzled with honey. It's baked to order, so it was fresh, warm, crispy flakes of filo, and sweetened with honey and a hint of orange zest. Honestly, it's difficult to put it into words to describe it perfectly, but it was very good.
