We are so happy we found this place. On a Tuesday night, we were looking for something new and discovered this on the map. To start, we ordered the Spinach pies. They were the perfect size for an appetizer. For my meal, I ordered the Phoenician Pasta. The serving size was large and left enough to take home. The sauce was creamy and the chicken had a great spice to it to give it some great flavor. This is one of those meals I will crave. We never needed anything. The lady serving the table kept me topped up with coca-cola. She brought to go boxes over without asking when we slowed down. Excellent service. The food here is always great! I especially love their Chicken Shwarma because it's so moist and tender compared to other places and still has a nice char around the edges. I always order the Combination Plate for the variety. The Gyros is also very well cooked and tender, and their Hummus is very creamy and flavorful. This particular location in Central has a n8ce large capacity, with plenty of seating and a long bar. Very nicely decorated and very clean. The light level is low and provides a cozy atmosphere for an open area table restaurant. My server, although quite busy, was very friendly, attentive and always showed up at the right time to refill my tea and pay my check. I really didn't want to write a review full of complaints about Café Phoenicia, but I really didn't want to have a mediocre meal at Café Phoenicia, either. The menu is sort of Greco-Lebanese, but dumbed down for the locals. How so? Instead of tzatziki, saganaki, and spanakopita, the menu lists "Grecian dip," "fried halloumi cheese," and "spinach pies." Much of the food is Greco-Italian fusion with a lot of pasta dishes with some "Greek" ingredients (olives, artichoke hearts, "Phoenician spices") thrown in. The spanakopita ("spinach pies") were terrible. Rather than anything like the flaky layers of phyllo the dish should have, it came with a soft, moist skin almost like a Greek pierogi ― Zeus only knows how long these things had been sitting around. Two old soggy spanakopita for nine dollars was highway robbery. The fried kibbeh was good, but it was just one for $5.50. The saganaki ("fried halloumi cheese") was okay, but the serving was four slim pieces for ten bucks, not freshly fried, and served in an Olympic-sized pool of olive oil. Things didn't get better when the entrées arrived: My lamb shank brought to mind the old phrase, "Mutton dressed as...," well, you can guess. It was fatty and not freshly cooked, and the food service hummus on the side was flavorless. My mom ordered their lobster bisque and a large feta salad. The bisque was another food service product to which some sort of cheap langostino (a.k.a., squat lobster) meat was added; my mom didn't finish the small portion. Her feta salad was conspicuously missing feta. Only my dad enjoyed his dish of some sort of eggplant topped with crab. The service was less than polished: I've rarely seen plates pile up on a table like that outside of a dim sum house or conveyor belt sushi bar. Since our reigning Sith Lord, Darth Biden, won't let let the nonsensical COVID hysteria die until he does, it's still tough times for restaurants, and I'm loath to knock an eatery in these tough times, but the experience at Café Phoenicia was a failure on pretty much level. We won't be back. In closing, I'll leave you with the words of another great Mediterranean civilization: Caveat emptor. read more

After trying the Dessert in the Denham Springs location and drooling from the dishes server in that location, we decided to have our family lunch in the Central location. We went in during Sunday lunch and the restaurant was packed. It was 10 of us and we were seated up front by the hostess and our waitress was Stephanie. They provided excellent service. As for the food, we all ordered a bunch of different dishes but started with the fried cheese and hummus! Alright fried cheese was delicious! 5/5 The hummus was delish 5/5 We all got some salads to start 3.5/5 Meat Samplers 5/5 Chicken shawarma plate 5/5 absolute greatness! Having been to the location in Denham Springs a few times and always being pleased, I happened to be in the Central area and was looking for a good soup and salad. This location definitely met my expectations--service was super quick and friendly. The food was fresh: lentil soup and a salad are always a lunchtime go-to for me. The flavors were on point--no salt or pepper needed. The atmosphere was very comfortable. Any place that serves Coke Zero always gets brownie points from me. Hopefully in the very near future, I will go back to one of the locations and try one of the delicious-looking pasta dishes and dessert when I'm looking to splurge! read more

They have a large menu, with different entrees that typically you can't find at your other Greek restaurants in BR. My family loves Cafe Phoenicia- we usually pick to eat there on all special occasions. However, the last two times we went for lunch, I noticed that there were some details being overlooked. All of our dinner plates had multiple huge chips around the perimeter. The tables are looking a bit worse for wear, also with chips/gouges around the edges, etc. (weren't there crisp tablecloths at one time?) There is a very long worn & dirty appearing "scrape" along one waIl in the dining area. Last but not least, gone are the nice "professional quality menus" and in their place, menus printed on copy paper which is fine, but may I have a new, crisp one and not a crumpled one someone else handled with germy dirty hands? Perhaps printed on a better quality paper would help upgrade the menus? Perhaps I'm being too picky, but in my opinion these overlooked details do add up & detract from the ambience and overall positive experience that Cafe Phoenicia provides. Food? Delicious! Service? Outstanding! Chipped plates/chipped tables/dirty walls/funky paper menus? Not so much. read more

By far one of the best Greek places I've been too. It's so pretty on the inside & out. The hostess was super happy when she greeted us. We sat outside. Everything is reasonably priced. We got hummus as an appetizer & normally I'm not a fan of plain hummus but this stuff was great ! We got a salad before our entree & I loved the dressing it came with ! My work parter and I have eaten here many times and we have enjoyed our meals every time. The service is friendly and quick, and the food is delicious. We enjoy the Fried Halloum Cheese here more so than other places. I've tried dishes ranging from pasta, chicken, seafood, shawarma, and Giros... they're all very good and the quality is consistent. Their rice pilaf is one of the best I've tasted locally. We always make this one of our stops each month for lunch. Sometimes twice a month for an enjoyable meal with quick, friendly service in a clean atmosphere. What more can you ask for. read more

Always have to have the Zatar with the authentic Pita Bread. If you ask, they will sell you a bag of Pita Bread. I've never found a grocery store that carries a comparable Pita Bread. After having had the Pita Bread in the Middle East, I'm very picky about imitations. Then again, I'm from New Orleans & won't settle for my PoBoy on a SUB Roll either (nothing but Leidenheimer or Risings French Bread.) Feta Salad is the best at Phoenicia. I won't eat Lebanese at the smaller chain restaurants. Only Cafe Phoenicia for me. My standards are high & Cafe Phoenicia meets the bar. read more

I really enjoyed everything they served here, they have great atmosphere and great service. You could come here for casual or dressy dining depending on the occasion. All of the food was very fresh and service was quick, although they were pretty empty on Saturday afternoon. I really loved their salad and the dressing that came on it, very flavorful and garlicky. All of the meat dishes were delicious. The falafel was only OK because it almost tasted baked and didn't have the crispy outside that I'm used to, flavor was mild and it reminded me of cornbread. Not terrible though. And the gyro was sliced a little thinner than we prefer. Otherwise, great experience and we'll be back. Try the Phoenicia sampler for 2, and the Lebanese tea. read more

This is one of my go-to places to for Greek and Lebanese food; it's arguably is one of the best places to eat in Central, with amazing food and service. The setting is relaxing, and it feels upscale without the high prices that you'd find at other restaurants of the same tier. They play some nice jazz. They have a killer Chicken Shawarma salad that I get regularly. Occasionally I'll hit the Chicken Gabrielle. Definitely reccomend read more

Love this place! It is just off Wax rd next to the Geaux Clean car wash. Recommend the Grecian Dip and also the hummus was soooo creamy and fresh! Gyro wrap was good. My fiancé had the crawfish and crab cake pasta and loved it! My mother had the Shrimp Phoenicia and raved about the flavor and the amount of shrimp. All of the meals were large portion and came with a fresh salad greens with tangy light dressing that also had nice flavors. Each of us ended up taking home the remainder to eat for dinner later. Lastly, service was excellent! Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name this minute but she was sweet and fun. Seems to enjoy her work. She even said would send us a text the next time they had some fresh Ashta (a dessert item) as they had run out by the time we arrived for a late lunch. Can't wait to try it though!
