When we were seated, I went to the restroom to wash my hands since I just came out of the subway. I have to admit, I was quite surprised how clean the bathroom was. My college economic professor used to tell us; we can judge how clean the kitchen is by how the restroom is. I had the fish ceviche and 1/4 chicken. My friend ordered the chicken avocado salad. The waitress came by with the dressing shortly after she set the plate in front of her; my friend declined. The chicken was moist and tender. I enjoyed it a lot. The ceviche was very fresh. Ambiance: We decided to visit this restaurant. Unfortunately they do not have a seating outside. If you are into loud club music, then do visit this place. The music was too loud, and we had to ask several people who worked there (1 bartender, and 1 waiter) several times to lower it, and they said they would, but it was not lowered. We waited for some time for them to lower the music, but they did not. It was unfortunately for us impossible to stay. So we left. They could have said right away that they will not lower the music instead of making us wait, have us to be seated, bringing out the food (manipulative and disregarding). What I don't understand is why the passive aggressive behavior? Be honest and straight forward. Don't say you will, then do not do it. This Peruvian restaurant is a must. It's a small place so I would recommend a reservation because their food is excellent. I have come here a few times and have had several different plates and have not been disappointed yet. They have really good ceviche and I always get it spicy! The seafood paella is also very good. One of my favorite dishes is one that is pretty basic, and that's the rotisserie chicken with French fries. That chicken is very flavorful and very moist. It's one of the dishes I recommend. Add the green sauce on the table, and you have an incredible delicious meal. I asked the waitress for a fancier drink this time around, and it came in a glass box filled with smoke. Came here to pick up some Peruvian food for dinner. I got the Arroz con mariscos (seafood paella) and the Lomo saltado and thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. The rice in the paella was delicious and the dish came with tons of seafood. I requested for the steak in the lomo saltado to be cooked medium rare but it ended up more like well done...not a dealbreaker though. Did not try their rotisserie chicken because I just couldn't force myself to fork over $30+ for their chicken combo when I can get a whole rotisserie chicken at BJ's for $6, which I used to dip in their tasty aji verde (green sauce). This is truly a hidden gem and the single best Peruvian restaurant in the city. The anticucho. in particular was flavorful, juicy, and mouthwatering. Truly the best food, and the service was equally amazing. And as far as ambiance, it was empty and nice music, I could not find a single thing to complain about. One of the waiters was so sweet and gave us green sauce to take home on the house ( and trust me, you want the green sauce!) My hunny and I really enjoy Peruvian food. Since our go-to restaurant nearby the house is closed, he went on a mission to find us a Peruvian Restaurant. Driving all the way to Brooklyn to find us some good eats was no different from any other time we are craving something. We usually get the standard combo. My hunny placed a to-go order for the Combo La Chacra. Combo La Chacra includes a Whole Rotisserie Chicken, Salad, Salchipapas, Maduros, Rice and Beans. He doesn't eat pork so he omitted the salchipapas and added Yuca Frita instead. It's not authentic Peruvian food if you don't get the Green Sauce better known as Aji Verde. Aji Verde is aka as crack in a liquefied form. There's no way you cannot add it to your chicken, rice, or yuca Frita. The rotisserie chicken comes with complimentary Aji Verde on the side, but make sure you get a extra green sauce. Believe me you'll thank me later. When I tell you the food was bomb.com its mind boggling that we didn't find out about this place much sooner. The food here is amazing. Usually I'm not a fan of Peruvian rice and beans because it lacks flavor, but what we had was beyond yummy. My only gripe is that the rotisserie chicken could've been roasted just a tad longer perhaps another 10 minutes would've done the chicken absolute justice. Really annoyed at La Chacra. Because of covid-19 everyone is staying home. Decided to support a not-so-local restaurant. A solid 20 minutes away. I called in my order and the girl who answered had difficulty understanding me and asked if I spoke spanish. Unfortunately I don't but I know the dishes in Spanish. Ordered an Arroz Chaufa beef, fettuccini saltado seafood, a peruvian corn (which was a mistake) and a small order of green sauce. When i got to the restaurant I added on a fried yucca, and an order of french fries (I should have received more green sauce for this order) First and foremost. the dining room is closed. So called in orders really should be getting the pinnacle of service and attention. my order had NO GREEN SAUCE. NOT EVEN THE GREEN SAUCE I WANTED TO PAY FOR. To top it off I didn't even get a receipt, so I have no idea if the $59.00 I paid (YES $59 freaking dollars) even included the order of green sauce I asked for. I got zero utensils, zero napkins, a couple packets of ketchup, a couple packets of mayo AND NOTHING ELSE. I literally got the fried rice, the noodles, a thing of corn with cheese, an order of fries and an order of yucca. $59.00 NO GREEN SAUCE. honestly you could have given me just yucca fries and french fries with a giant tub of green sauce and i'd have left a 5 star review. After eating here once, I had to return with my friends to let them try the delicious food here! If you're planning to arrive here with a big group, plan ahead and reserve! Their seating can be limited. I reserved two days prior to coming and they were able to accommodate our group of 7. My friends and I ordered a whole bunch of dishes and we shared it family style. We ordered the seafood paella, mussels ceviche, shrimp ceviche, plantains, whole and half chicken, and a passionfruit juice pitcher for drinks. The seafood paella tasted amazing and they excel in their flavors. In my previous review, I wrote that the paella tasted acidic for me but this time, it didn't taste acidic at all and I was able to taste more of the seafood flavors. The shrimp ceviche was good, but personally the mussels ceviche offers more flavor. The highlight of the ceviche sauce is the citrus tones. I also have to give a big shout out to our waiter. He is attentive and gives great recommendations. He recommended us the rotisserie chicken and I'm so happy that we followed his advice. The rotisserie chicken here is truly one of the best chickens I've ever tried - the meat was tender, soft, and juicy. I'm so used to eating dry rotisserie chicken from other places, and La Chacra's version blew my mind. The desserts are a nice way to end your meal at La Chacra. I decided to stop by La Chacra for the first time to have a taste of Peruvian food especially since I pass by it all the time and several friends have recommended it. To be honest I was not sure what to expect but I was told that the seafood rice (arroz con mariscos) and the mussels ceviche were a must. As we were seated, we were given plantain chips and what looked like toasted corn to munch on while we decided what to get. What took me by surprise is the green sauce, or the aji verde. It had a nice acidity to it with some creaminess, spiciness, and freshness from the cilantro. The perfect sauce to go with any meat or fry. We ultimately decided on yucca fries, seafood rice, and mussels ceviche. The seafood rice was definitely the star of the show. The rice had great seafood flavor with a bit of moistness to it. The squid, mussels, clams, and shrimp were cooked perfectly with a slight smokiness. My only gripe is that the mussels and clams had little meat in them. The mussels ceviche packed some powerful acidity with a touch of creaminess. We added a bit of olive oil just to balance the acidity which worked amazing. When it comes to the yucca fries, as I stated earlier the aji verde sauce is the perfect dip for it. The waiter recommended pilsen beer to wash it all down and it was perfect with a squeeze of lime juice. Light and flavorful at the same time. Overall I was quite impressed with La Chacra. Extremely good Peruvian food! If you like octopus, go right now (July 2024). Order the grilled octopus appetizer special and treat yourself to one of the best dishes in the city featuring this unique protein. The anticuchos, ceviche, chicharron de pescado, roasted chicken (pollo a la brasa) and lomo saltado are also quite enjoyable. Pisco sour is on point too. If you've never tried it, get it and open your horizons to a light yet potent elixir. I would suggest they step up their game with the rice and beans, salad and salchipapas. They were standard. However, with this level of talent in the kitchen, they can def improve those sides. Next time we'll try better to save room for dessert but with appetizers and mains this good, it's quite the challenge. We sat outside because all the tables were reserved indoors. If I go to a Peruvian restaurant and the pollo a la brasa is basic then unfortunately, I'm not going back. This spot is marked as "One of the best spots" on Ubereats. When I was trying to make a decision between la Chacra and a spot in Sunset, I went with La Chacra because of that very reason. I wasn't too hungry and also wasn't feeling all that great but was craving Peruvian badly so I ordered the 1/2 chicken and a small salad. Along with extra green sauce. The chicken was just okay, tasted like every other rotisserie chicken out there. And here's the thing, when I eat Peruvian Chicken? I'm expecting flavor and lots of it. When it's done properly, you don't need sauce. The green sauce had more salt and umami to it than the actual chicken. The parts that had seasoning on it were extremely underwhelming so the marinade they use clearly isn't cutting it. It was cooked fine, the breast wasn't too dry or anything like that but it was boring. I've had way better. The green sauce literally was the best part about the entire meal. The rotisserie chicken was a bit smaller than we expected but was still pretty good. The steak with fries and egg was also really good. My friend really likes the green sauce that comes with the corn kernels in the beginning of our visit, that she ordered a whole pint of it to go. Rating: 4/5 This was the restaurant I've ordered from so far that actually delivered early. It arrived about 25 minutes after I ordered it (it is about a 7 minute drive away if that matters, but I don't think it does because similarly close restaurants have delivered my food very late). Everything came packaged neatly, too. Though the price felt a tad high at first, the quality made up for it. Pescado Frito ($17) was the one that was the least worth it. It's just fried fish fillet with rice, tomato, lime sauce, and barely any yucca. Despite this though, my brother gobbled the fish up. The yucca felt like just slightly larger fries and didn't pack the typical yucca thickness. Edit: 5/10/20 ordered a Ceviche de Pescado ($18) and it was also very skimpy. You really have to be careful about the portion of what you order, seems to swing wildly. The fish itself, obviously the most important part, tasted A1; however, half the peanuts were rotten or kind of off. The Combo la Chacra ($32) is HUGE (see photo). Yes the whole chicken, maduros (plantains), salchipapa (sliced sausages and fries), salad, rice and beans are all part of that combo. I originally ordered it for two people, but they shared their sides with me and my brother, and there was STILL some leftover for dinner. They were especially impressed with the chicken, given that it's easy to cook it dry and tasteless, but La Chacra's chicken turned out delicious. I had the Arroz con Mariscos Paella ($20). It was really good, just the way I like it packed with flavor and tons of seafood and rice. Everybody wanted a bite. I have been here quite a few times and decided ti invite 2 new friends to try it. I have introduced a few people here and they also have been coming thru. Today was the 1st time that I had disappointment. The waiter is a good guy and he tried his best. I liked him. He was certainly nervous which shows me the manager may not be as nice. Instead of leaving the already picked at 2nd pollo, looks like the manager said to exchange. It was a kitchen error and they could have just offered a chicharron de pescado, they did not correct the error. We had to ask for the chicharron de pescado 3 to 4 times before we actually got it. By this time, over 30 minutes had passed. That is not good management. I would have certainly given a 5 star rating because the waiter was a nice guy, but it looks like he was limited in making a decision. After this decision, the waiter turned cold due to his embarrassing situation with the manager. He looked like he felt so bad and he actually apologized to us. Our poor waiter Kevin was actually waiting on all the tables alone with minimal help. As I said he is a good guy. The food is really good here, no doubt. When we finally got our chicharron de pescado, it was amazing, but at this time we were not in as good a mood as when we 1st arrived. We decided not to leave and continue dinner. My friend ordered the Lomo salteado which for him was really good, and I ordered the 1/4 chicken combo. It was also very tender and delicious. Also the manager/bartender forgot to make my 2nd pisco sour. I had to ask again, 10 mins later. My friend ordered a classic Patron margarita, it felt a little watered down... more lime than patron. I love their rotisserie, which now I think is my favorite spot for it now, it was tender, and flavorful! Which is difficult to find when it comes to rotisserie chicken. My friend ordered the ceviche de mariscos, which is mixed seafood, she thought it tasted good but was disappointed at how little seafood there were, it looked like a lot but it's actually a bunch of potatoes at the bottom of the few pieces of seafood.
