The food here is really delicious and big portioned, but I don't appreciate them charging me and extra $0.50 for the chicken when it was less online and on the menu. Yeah it's only 50 cents but I don't like dishonesty, so that will be considered their tip. But as far as the food it's hands down the best food by far I had this week. The plantain was a bit under ripe but still tasty. The oxtail and chicken were flavorful, not sure about the pepper steak but bf ate half of it. El Pollo 1 is the sort of random-seeming spot that makes me glad to go on outer-borough excursions, even at the risk of getting home at 2am. A hyphenated establishment on the fringes of Bensonhurst, it's called Ruben's Pizza but yet it's also El Pollo 1. I didn't delve into the more ambitious Peruvian offerings here like lomo saltado or jalea, but the chicken with rice and beans was good, augmented by green sauce. The shrimp soup was enjoyable but the shrimp itself wasn't especially notable. I see some unhappy Yelp comments about the atmosphere. El Pollo catered a large gathering at a friend's apartment recently. By "catered," I mean "ordered in." And by "large gathering," I mean a party of 11 people. We easily ordered over $100 worth of food and everything was very well-packed and organized. Too bad all the food sucked. Real attraction is the price point. The quality and quantity of food can't be beat. They are fast and there is a huge variety of food. I personally go with the chicken, beef, lamb, or pork. Aside from this, huge advantage is that this place closes super late or not at all depending on the day. Seriously worth trying. Best for getting something quick and fulfilling. Their simple meat over rice dishes are excellent, not to mention their amazing green hot sauce. Beware this is a super casual place, and mostly Spanish speaking people go here, so if you go here, dont look awkward, just pick up a togo menu and order at the front! read more

The roasted chicken is amazing. Tastes great and moist. I ordered a side of rice & beans but got bean soup and white rice, that I had to somehow find a way to mix together to make it rice & beans. The chicken alone is stand alone reason for a great rating. I plan on returning. Also, can second a similar comment that females can feel uncomfortable in this establishment . I have never eaten here in person which is why there is one star missing but have ordered from them a couple of times and find the food to be authentic and delicious. The staff over the phone and as far as delivery have been very sweet and quick! Living in Dyker Heights it is hard to come by an authentic and really good Latino restaurant but this is my "go-to" Their beef soup, chicken and rice and beans are delicious (and yes some Latino restaurants mess up rice beans)!! This is a hole-in-the-wall Peruvian food stop with a random dual personality as an Italian pizza shop. On an early evening, the pizzas sitting in a greasy case looked rather lonesome, while the home style peruvian food was piping hot and aromatic. Great prices on rice and bean platters with choices of roasted chicken and a variety of stews. Don't expect anything fancy or overly clean; the entrees are served on styrofoam plates with the food spilling off the edges, and you likely have to wipe down the table yourself before sitting down on a vinyl-cracked seat to tuck in. read more

Worst experience ever. I've never ordered from here because the looks of the place just looks a little questionable on cleaniliness. My brother always ordered from here until one day the chicken had a piece of those silver sponges, not sure what they're called but that was it for us. Now just yesterday we ordered for an event & the delivery guy besides him sounding drunk, asked me the address & told me to wait outside. Mind you it was pretty cold outside, I waited and got another phone call saying he had the wrong address. I was already pretty mad and told him how could he have it wrong if ihad gave it to him again, and he just started saying well next time don't say bay ridge pkwy you have to say 75 st ok? And he hung up. I was deadass ready to cancel the order but I controlled myself and waited. I stepped outside and saw an older man whistle and signal me to the corner, of course I didn't go I just stared and a little man came out carrying a box and handed to me and left. I said wtf is this it? Am I not going to pay or something, and he just said no there's more coming. I've never been more heated in my life. When my mom called the place to complain, instead of getting an apology at least the owner proceeded to yell at my mom calling her a lir and he saw everything, and he'd put anything on the line for his delivery boy. I've been eating at this place for quiet sometime. You can get a good spanish meal here for a good price. They also have Italian food & pizza but it isn't great. I don't go there for that but I have tried it I wouldn't recommend it. Their Spanish food is good & they give a big plate. This is a small family owned restaurant with selections from pizza to bean platters. When you first walk in it seems pretty worn and old but that doesn't change the fact that the food is very tasty. Their pizza is nothing to go crazy about but it isn't on of the worst I've ever had. Their empanadas are very filling and filled with either chicken or beef with whole eggs in them. Their roast chicken however is definitely one of the most tastiest I've had in a while and I always like to grab it when I get home from work or school. The only thing I would recommend getting is their Philly Cheese Steak, it's not your authentic Philly Cheese Steak where everything is chopped fine, this has a lot of juicy meat that will definitely settle an appetite. The staff varies, and sometimes you get someone that doesn't speak English too well so they can get your order mixed up. I wouldn't recommend calling for a pick up because I've had moments where I call 30 minutes before I go and they still have yet to prepare the food. Service is slacking but taste makes up for it. Price wise you shouldn't spend more then $10 for a meal that will surely fill you up. read more
