I had an amazing dinner here on a whim with friends are we were very happy with it! One of my friends is Peruvian so we've tried our share of Peruvian restaurants in Brooklyn and La Chacra is now one of my favorites. We ordered the ceviche and yucca fries to share. The ceviche was flavorful and the sweet potato puree was an unexpected but welcomed addition. The yucca fries were great with the aji verde. Though I didn't have any, my friends spoke well of the steak and the chicken. My entree was the Fettuccini Verde with shrimp instead of steak. The shrimp replacement was not on the menu but they were kind enough to do it for me! The service was wonderful and there was no wait (granted, it was later than the usual dinner time). The food here was great. Everything from beginning to end. The homemade plantain chips and roasted beans were a great primer. We had the papa rellena to start, it was a great appetizer. Have never seen a stuffed potato with beef stew inside. I had 1/4 chicken meal, the chicken and rice were perfect. The beans lacked a little flavor but were still enjoyable. I like this place enough to stretch to 3.5 stars. This is based solely on my delivery experience. I have tried them twice and both times the proteins were cooked well and still succulent. I have tried many a lomo saltado and sometimes the steak has been off which ultimately ruins the dish. The 1/2 chicken was also done well. I wish the skin was a bit crispier/seasoned, but it did travel some distance so condensation did it in. I tried to revive by broiling it, but it wasn't quite right. Green sauce that accompanied it was good too. Plantains were also cooked PERFECTLY!!! Like exactly the way I like it. Sometimes the bananas are not ripe enough and restaurants still fry them which is a recipe for disaster and sometimes they don't brown them enough, but I guess that is a preference thing. This was not the case with La Chacra. They were browned, sweet, tender, crisped and delicious. My one call out was on my first order the rice had a bit too much bite to it. I couldn't tell if it was undercooked or dried out from sitting out for too long, but I love rice so I can tell when it isn't quite right, which was unfortunate since it is such a big part of the dish. Red beans were okay. Nothing to right home and thankfully not too soupy. The lil side salad was also fresh, no browning on any of the vegetables which I appreciated because seriously that isn't appetizing as you eat with your eyes first before anything. They also offer my two fav latin deserts. Tres leche and flan. I have only tried the tres leche which is outsourced from another bakery I believe but I don't remember the name on the label. The tres leche is unfortunately a bit too soggy and the flan was also not very good and was too dense. Overall worth a try, but wouldn't go out of your way. read more

It was restaurant week onGrand Street and this restaurant even had a restaurant week menu on its counter which attracted us to the restaurant in the first place. Other reviews seemed reasonable, however, after our experience, we won't be back. Upon asking about the restaurant week menu, we were quickly told they weren't serving that. I decided on a half chicken with rice and beans and salad. The salad must have been in the refrigerator for awhile as the cucumbers and radishes were well beyond their shelf life. Anxiously looking for a piece of moist chicken off the rotisserie chicken, but instead it was a piece of lukewarm warm chicken that had been in a refrigerator for awhile. The beans and rice were ok. My meal partner got a chicken and rice dish that he felt was also underwhelming. This simply was not the good meal we hoped for. read more

Please visit this place. Having grown up in Miami, I've had my fair share of Peruvian food. I can pretty confidently say that this was one of the best pescado a lo macho's that I've ever had in my life. The fish and seafood were fresh and it was a very generous portion. The dish is not on the main menu, but it is a special that you can ask for and I highly recommend. We also ordered ceviche and a pisco sour, both of which were excellent. My partner got the lomo saltado which was great, but could have used a bit more sauce. I visited this restaurant on a Sunday with a party of 15. I understand the place is not so big and having such a big party would mean others would have to wait longer. The food 5 stars, it's delicious and of the best Peruvian food we've had. When we arrived and told the host we were 15. He said ok but there will be a 20 mins wait, we were ok with it. When we went to check the host said to us "but can't only order the chicken combos" you have to order other dishes " we were a bit offended by it. We never intended to order the combos. I was excited to try this new Peruvian restaurant but I was disappointed. The famous green sauce was very watery, the lomo saltado was missing the red peppers and sauce, the white rice was bland, the French fries were frozen and not hand cut, the steak was so so. The green spaghettis was also not memorable. I also called to ask if the salchi papas was made with beef or pork hot dog and the guy who answered the phone told me pork. I told him that I would like to suggest to switch the hot dog to beef like many other Peruvian restaurants do and he said it would be up to the owner. On the plus side the delivery was super fast. Walked into La Chacra on a Friday afternoon with my girlfriend for a birthday meal. Only 5 months old but boy do they know what they're doing. Decor and atmosphere were impeccable; good music, great service, and a comfortable vibe. Jose was a wonderful waiter and bartender. At the end of the meal they brought out a complimentary cake for my birthday which was absolutely delicious. Didn't get the name but was definitely milk based. The ceviche was delicious; perfect acidity, quality fish, and excellent (and I mean very excellent) value for money (couldn't believe it was only $13). My lomo saltado reminded me of my travels to Peru and the whole meal felt like a trip to Lima. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion; a date, a meal with friends, or even some drinks at the quaint bar. *RACIST* Just some quick context, this is my 3rd time at this restaurant because despite the questionable host, the food was good. Each time I've felt a weird condescending energy from the server/host, Jose. I brushed it off that maybe it was just me until this last time. I called in a reservation for 3 @ 7:30. He answered the phone, seemingly polite and pleasant, and after a brief check he says "sure, we have room". I give my name and we arrive at the set time. I came in with my party, greeted him and told him that we were here for our 7:30. He immediately says that they are full and rudely asks where and when I made this reservation. At this point I'm thinking this has to be a joke because I literally spoke to this man not even an hour ago. I proceed to look at my phone to see if I had the right number and he asks to see to make sure. I'm not one to go straight to the race card but at this point not only is it strike 3 for me but you're the only person that works here besides the cook so it's no way around the disrespect this time. Everything about this screams that my voice was good enough for you on the phone but the faces in front of you aren't what you wanted. Absolutely fine, but now I'm going to let people know what's up. I have eaten at La Chacra before, but at the one in Bensonhurst. I don't remember if the portion of the chickens were this small... and the rice too... perhaps different location? Anyways, I placed an order for 7 people all in which arrived on time as estimated. Unfortunately no pictures here. We mostly ordered the half chicken with either the yellow rice and beans or the fries with salad. I would say this is enough for one person. The fries aren't the fried kind and we're a tad soggy, not their fault. The chicken was well seasoned and had a tender texture throughout. My colleague had ordered the 1/4 chicken with just yellow rice, in which they charged an extra dollar for, only for it to be the same amount of rice as the other orders. The beans would've been separate anyway so don't waste your money to not get the beans. My other colleague ordered some empanadas and ceviche, both were noted to be delicious. That green sauce that they gave, chef's kiss. I saved it to bring home and it was good with other meats as well. You could just order 8oz of the sauce if any for $3.
