(I also love the bathroom theme) We had coffee, margaritas, the Huevos Pericos (columbian eggs) Arepita, fries, and the slab bacon. The drinks were spot on, and coffe fresh. We all really enjoyed the Heuvos Pericos Arepitas! A large pillowly arepa topped with a tower of soft scrambled eggs made with tomato and scallion. The ingredients were fresh and it tasted homecooked. The slab bacon had good flavor, but was a bit too thick and chewy for our preferences. Another favorite in the area! This place has it all. The food, the atmosphere, and the service were all 10/10. The waiter recommended the drink maite and that was personally my favorite. We loved the carrots with anchovy butter- it didn't even taste like carrots! The empanaditas rotate daily and today it was pork cheek. Other days, there are variety of different fillings with duck patte being another favorite. Their yuca fries were perfectly salted and they have really mastered the art of fried food. when i think of bushwick/ridgewood restaurants, it's this and rolos. this ABOVE rolos. the cooking is top tier, the menu is simple, written on a huge chalkboard by the open kitchen. things rotate every so often, but they have staples- like the burrata with squid ink (cooked in pork fat) with foccacia, the rotating empanaditas, the amazing, sloppy burger. Not to mention the fatty pork belly with crunchy chicharron on top. also- the chocolate cake is the best dessert in bushwick. fudgey but light, with some olive oil drizzled on top. Tonight I had the basque cheesecake. Yum. the service is very laid back, sometimes i wonder if it's too laid back, but i think it's charming. the staff is attentive, and that's what matters. I think a big pet peeve is staff that's overwhelmingly on top of you. They're not going to refill your waters every time you take a sip, which is fine. It feels like a good crew of friends welcoming you in. I've been coming here for a few months now and I normally don't write reviews for places but I just HAD to for Maite! First of all, the decor ambiance is so fun--they're always playing great music and all of the decor on the walls is queer-themed and so cool. The staff is super nice. I've never been when they're really busy but whenever I am there the service is always prompt and friendly. Ok, now on to the reason I'm writing this review. All the food I've tried here has been great, but the Burrata Negra dish is astonishingly good. I've never had anything like it and I go back every couple of months just to eat this one thing. I think about it constantly. I believe it's priced at $18 at the time of this review and it is SO worth it. The squid ink sauce is so deep and flavorful and an incredible compliment to the quality burrata nested in the middle. The focaccia they serve it with is always warm and chewy and smoky from the grill and like dripping with delicious olive oil. It's a peak food experience and it feels so well balanced and just perfect! You haveee to try it if you go. The drink menu is also great! I'm always happy with the drinks here. read more

This place is awesome, casual yet attentive service and laid back semi-scandalous decor create just the right vibe in this cozy corner restaurant. They do ask that you put in your full order so they can time it for you which sometimes turns out to be a disaster of waiting too long or being rushed through courses, but it was perfectly timed. Here's what we ordered: Burrata & Squid Ink - striking to the eye and the palate. A fluffy cloud of burrata floats in a sea of black as dark as my soul. The sauce appears to be thick and heavy but it's incredibly light and creamy on the tongue. I didn't get a pic of the bread that comes on the side but it was hot, steamy perfection. Scallops and trumpet mushrooms - really great portion for the price, the mushrooms are thinly shaved and soak up all of the buttery goodness, total flavor bomb. Asparagus & Ricotta - well executed and tasty version of a classic dish. Burger - two options to order for temp, pink or cooked through, we opted for pink. Burger was good but not great, only thing it was missing was a nice char, texturally between the bun and burger it just felt too uniform and soft. Still a good burger. Yucca fries- had no business being as crunchy and satisfying as they were. 100% will crave these and come back for a glass of wine and these bad boys. I've been coming to Maite for about 5 years-- every single time it's a fantastic experience so it's become me and my partner's "spot." The food truly never disappoints! We love that the chefs change the menu relatively often, giving us a chance to try all of their brilliant ideas for meals. Definitely doesn't hurt that it's owned by the two female head chefs (love to support that.) My previous favorite was the rabbit tagliatelle dish (from years ago) so I was thrilled to see rabbit on their menu again . For our meal this past Friday we went with the empanaditas, olives, the squash and feta app, the chicharron, I got the rabbit, and my partner got the steak (as always). Wow, just wow. Fantastic service as per usual, never-fails delicious food, and we each had a few of our favorite cocktail called Brooklyn Bound (has also stayed on the menu since I can remember -- with good reason.) Probably one of the hippest restaurants in Brooklyn! I'm so glad I found this little gem in my neighborhood. The food is amazing and the servers were super friendly. I also love the vibe here, romantic and also family friendly at the same time. We got four dishes here (three apps and 1 main dish to share) and it was more than enough for two! Went here with some friends for dinner while I was visiting Bushwick. Was a very cute place. Very friendly staff and their cocktails were very tasty. The food was okay, you can see pictures of some of the things we got. Soft Shell Crab was excellent, as were the empanadas (not pictured). My friend who lives in the area said the pasta is usually excellent... ours was just okay, but apparently that's not usually the case. The simple fried ricotta dessert was probably my favorite. What an incredible dinner spot! Last night we had a double date here, and the strategy was: order a bunch of stuff and share everything. We got: pork cheek empanaditas, burrata with squid ink, gnocchi, pork belly, monkfish, half rack of lamb, and dulce de leche pots. We liked all of the dishes, but the table got especially quiet when the lamb came out. I'm highly partial to gnocchi, and this one was extremely soft, creamy, and cheesy. Wow. Just wow. It was my first time to this place. I've been meaning to check it out for a while. This place did not disappoint! I've been missing out and should have checked this place out a long time ago! The service was incredible, the food was fantastic, and the bartender was amazing. Lorenita was sweet, engaging, and attentive. All the things you want in your bartender. My husband and I sat at the bar so we could get a couple of things to try. We ended up eating so much, I practically needed a wheelchair to wheel me out. What we ate: Empanaditas with Pork Belly - it was a perfectly crispy exterior, with melt in your mouth pork belly and a delicious garlic sauce. Don't forget to use the sauce, it really brings out the flavor! Burrata Negra - it was delicious cheese, with bread, and the squid ink.. man it was amazing! Foie Gras Mousse - I had no words. We tried this with the Brooklyn Bound mescal drink, and it was absolutely incredible. I don't even like cold food, and I loved it! The jam with the mouse and bread was the perfect blend of flavors and texture. Fried Gnocchi - so damn good. Couldn't eat them all though. They were like little bites of heaven.. melty potato pasta with cheese inside a crispy ball. Maltagliati Rabbit Pasta with Red Sauce paired with Akutan Tempranillo (amazing red wine) - incredible! My favorite Rabbit Pasta I've ever had! The pasta was made fresh, there was a lot of rabbit, and it was so light but flavorful. Not the kind of dish that makes you feel so heavy. Mind you, we had all the dishes already and shared them all, but we are foodies, so we eat.. a lot! Corn maohama - best. Corn dish. Ever! Just try it. You won't be disappointed! Truffles paired with Rond Noir Grenache- those truffles were like little bites of Grenache cake... and then you add the wine.. it was incredible. We didn't eat till like noon the next day because we ate so much, but nothing went to waste. The food was amazing, and we will definitely be back! I do not often review, but this is my second review of shops and restaurants tonight, because I was fortunate enough to have visited two lovely places in one day! The food at Maite is made with heart and love - it feels a bit like going to a friend's home for dinner, if that friend is an exquisite chef! And even better, our servers were perfection. Our first server knows how to read people, and from just a few words from me, he understood how and what we should order (WHY did I not get his name?). Our second server was also lovely and wonderful. Okay. The food. The lamb was out of this world - one of the best I've had, ever. Empanaditas and the green sauce- great. Duck egg with arepa - silky and comforting ( I like more aggressive seasoning, so I would have liked a bit more salt - but that's me). And per my 9 year old daughter, "the yucca fries were the best!" I would have liked to have a simple green salad as an option, to round out the wonderful richness of our meals, but no big deal. Final words. No duck egg or whatever that other reviews talked about exist on the steak. 5 Ravioli costs $28. If you break it down they charge almost $6 for one ravioli, and didn't bother to add any truffle on top. The decor was nice and it appears to be LGBTQ friendly but everything turned into a huge disappointment in the end-- even the $55 dollar steak was burnt and bitter, overcooked for a medium. Pros: The interior decor is beautiful & the atmosphere is a very chill vibe. The waitress was very friendly & described everything in detail especially since I'm a vegetarian. The olives were okay I wasn't expecting them to have cayenne pepper on the top but I've tasted better jarred olives. I had the fried gnocchi but it was supposed to be mozzarella cheese but it definitely tasted like cheddar. The mushroom with the egg yolk was okay. I had the watermelon cheddar radish truffle dish but the flavors combined didn't taste well together. For a $80 bill I was not impressed actually got some pizza afterwards. I've been wanting to come to Maite for a while. The resto is a fusion of European/Colombian flavors. When we arrived the place was a little empty and we decided to eat outside. Camila was our server and she was the loveliest. She recommended various dishes and they were all very tasty. We decided to eat the dishes in a tapas style manner. From all the new items we got we really enjoyed the Empanaditas. Only complaint was that I wish they were bigger so I could have more. Haha We decided to pick numerous appetizers, here are all the dishes ordered: - Burrata Negra - pleasant take on the burrata - Prawns - tasty. The sauce was very flavorful and there was a great balance of both the sauce and the prawns. Only *annoying* aspect was that I would have removed the shell from the prawns. But whatever if your adventurous and like to get your hands a little dirty it's NBD. - Jamón Ibérico - very flavorful as well. Only complaint was that the jamon should have bit cut thinner. We came in because we grew up in the neighborhood and are Latinos. Don't get me wrong the food is pretty decent but the portions are crazy small for its price. Did you know there was a Colombian place in Bushwick? When I moved from Jackson heights - Colombian Mecca of the north I swore my diet needed an empanada detox. Then a few blocks away I read about an excellent Italian / South American fusion spot. You walk in and it looks hipster-ific at first sight with the funky old cabin decor and blackboard of seasonal ever changing menu items. A few songs in I'm like - ha this music is Colombian. The beer is Aguila. The menu items all have Colombian twists and it dawns on me "estoy en la finca!!!" Fav eats - the steak here is amazing, the arepa manages to be soft and crunch, the duck empanadas are amaze-balls and the gnocchi is light! (That's a culinary feat right there) My double favorite is the ink buffalo mozzarella - it sounds funky, the first bite is okay, the second is yummy and by the end you wonder if it's inappropriate to lick the plate (ummm apparently it is) It's one of my favorite restaurants in the wick. read more

I need to start out this review by saying the food was fantastic. Although the dishes are smaller portions at a very high price, knowing the ingredients are farm to table and the best quality I could look past the cost. My issue and the reason for two stars comes down to the experience my partner and I had. We entered a completely empty restaurant and sat at a two person table near the window. The waitress came over and we thought she was very friendly while she explained the menu to us--even said we had a great seat next to the window. Awesome. Then we went to order. Having decided on each of the dishes we wanted, we then were confronted with an argumentative waitress who said those dishes were best shared and kept insisting on telling us dishes we should order and share together. Despite trying to say one of us was vegetarian and we had preferred what we originally wanted, we weren't going anywhere talking to our waitress and finally ordered three dishes to split. Five minutes later, she sat another couple down at the bar table up against the window telling them they had a great seat--which was right on top of us. There was no space for either of us at all. My arm and shoulder was touching the woman next to me.. the restaurant was still completely empty at this time. The other couple and both of us were very uncomfortable and we ended up having to get up, move all our plates and glasses ect. to another table. Though the food was amazing, I'm extremely disappointed from this experience and I will not be returning. It was hard to enjoy eating something I originally did not want, and having to move from the seats we choose at the beginning, w are so turned off that I would not recommend this place. read more
