    Chicharron de cerdo (Fried pork)
    Tiffany S.

Our waitress didn't understand our English and we didn't know Spanish but we were able to order by pointing out what we wanted on the menu. However, there was one mixup, I ordered chicharron de cerdo and they gave chicharron de pollo sin hueso instead. We told the waitress about the mixup but she couldn't change our order, so we just added an extra plate of fried pork belly. I guess it was a good thing they messed up the order as I preferred the fried chicken. Overall, everything was a bit too salty for me and I've had better. They have a nice buffet layout in the front to order food, which would be great for people who just want to grab food and go.

Sunday 6/2/2024 I had never been to this spot but my family had and they really enjoyed it so I decided to try it for myself. I didn't really know what to order so I had them order for me and just tried a bunch of different things that looked good. We got takeout orders and the items I tried were: white rice, beans, pork chop, Chicharrón, maduros (plantains), pernil (pulled pork), and a whole fried Dominican chicken. The white rice while abundant was average. The beans were alright but the size was significantly smaller than expected which did not help when balancing out all the rice. The pork chop was decent. The Chicharrón was solid. The plantains were pretty good (it's hard to mess those up lol). The pernil (pulled pork) was pretty underwhelming: the meat was dry, chewy, and definitely some flavor or juiciness to it. The whole fried Dominican chicken was good and easily the best of the proteins I had. Overall, the food experience was solid and I would be open to returning if close by or if it's convenient as it does stay open pretty late.

I stopped in for takeout around 6pm and the place was packed. I ended up ordering a large plate which cost about $20 with rice, beans, plantains and pernil. The food was ok overall because half the pernil was dry. They also needed a better set up for ordering the food because it was unorganized.

Ima keep it a buck. They got the best yucca y cebollas in the area, the chicharron stay fresh all night, plates are cheap, and they make their sangria just like my alcoholic tios. As far as anything else people are saying goes, I have experienced the colorism with my dark skinned Caribbean friends who don't speak Spanish. It was pretty uncomfortable, and I'd be cognizant. Potentially still worth ordering takeout if you love Puerto Rican/Dominican food.

Stewed goat, yellow rice, vegetables, chicken empanada

I decided to check this place out, it's a restaurant serving Dominican and Colombian food. I came here on a Monday for lunch. It's essentially a buffet and you can either dine inside or do take out. There's a lot of indoor seating. I ordered the stewed goat, yellow rice, vegetables, and a chicken empanada. The goat was flavorful and you get a large portion. The vegetables were actually not overcooked but bland. The chicken empanada was super dry but the outer shell was crispy. You definitely to put Tapatio hot sauce on everything, good thing it's on every table. I may or may not come back, but I might try the chicharron next time.

Order an avocado salad, they sent me a regular salad.

I asked for delivery. The delivery person never called or texted me to inform me that they arrived to my home. They just left the food on my doorstop and left. I waited and waited and after waiting for an hour, I called the restaurant. They told me that the delivery person had left over an hour ago. I told the restaurant that I was still waiting for my order. I decided to go outside to see if maybe I would see the delivery person and once I went outside, my food was on my doorstep. My food was extremely cold. It's a hit or miss with this restaurant. When you call the actual restaurant or go in person, it's a hit, but when you use the apps to order like Yelp or GrubHub, it's a miss! The maduros were burnt and black, I asked for an avocado salad and I received a regular plain lettuce and tomato salad and got charged for the price of the avocado salad which is expensive and the white rice was hard on top of it being cold. What a horrible experience especially when you're looking forward to eat a good meal from Rico Pollo Restaurant.

Bandeja Paisa Mini Plate ($11) Cash only!
    Christal Y.

Stumbled into this place hungry! Definitely a good spot to go to for meals that are a bang for your buck. The Bandeja Paisa platter is $14, with the mini platter coming in at $11. You do not. I repeat, do not, need the full platter lol! The mini is huge! A strip of fried pork skin/fat/meat (there's a word for it that I can't remember at this exact moment, so sorry y'all), half a sausage, a fried egg, rice, beans, a bread thing (again, do not know the term, so sorry!), a chicken breast (supposed to come with beef I believe but they ran out for mine & asked me if a swap was okay), and fried plantains. Googled this meal and it's called the workers meal lol, a super heavy carb and protein loaded dish for a work day. More power to ya! It wasn't for me though. Beside me not feeling up to a protein bonanza (in a good way) I did feel like the dish might be subpar generally speaking. Plantains were so fried they were hard (if this is standard please let me know, I'm happy to stand corrected and less ignorant than I came in!), the pork fat strip was 90% day & The skin was too hard to be chewable. I'm all for eating giant hunks of fat, but it was not going to go down at all lol. I wish it had tho! The chicken breast was so good for no reason, pounded flat & not at all dry, yum! The pastries looked good, people seemed cozy and taking their time eating (a good sign for a neighborhood spot). The cashier was really nice as well! I would give them another try, & maybe order something else when I'm hungrier for a platter of protein!

One day I had an intense craving for oxtail and had no idea where to find it in Bay Ridge, so I decided to give this place a try. I ordered the oxtail with white rice and salad, plus a pork pastele. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the oxtail actually had generous, tender meat on the bones (which is not always the case!). What surprised me most was how much food I had left over for the next day. Great portions, great flavor. I'll definitely be ordering again! And it was a good reminder that sometimes the real gems aren't the ones with all the decorative bells and whistles. The food is where it's at.

It's not very often that I go out of my way to seek out Dominican food but this place did not disappoint. The insides are pretty rustic, and I would call this a typical Brooklyn hole in the wall. As someone who does not eat pork, I obviously cannot comment on a lot of of the menu offerings, but the few things I did have here were absolutely delicious. This is one of the best rotisserie chickens I've had, the spices on the outside were phenomenal, and the chicken inside was absolutely juicy and succulent without being dried out. I rarely ever eat white meat in a rotisserie chicken, but the chicken breast was cooked so well here. I also love the fresh tostones, they are my absolute favorite island snack. These were served with a side of the garlic sauce - which in my opinion could use a lot more garlic and a little bit of salt to contrast the fried plantains. Spanish rice was delicious as always, and the maduro's were Fried perfectly without compromising the integrity of the plantain. Overall, this was a solid meal, our server was super friendly and accommodating as well. I do think they could maybe spruce up the insides a little bit to make it look less dreary, and offer more chicken options for those of us that don't eat pork.

We initially had decided on ordering the Combo La Chacra, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice with red beans, an avocado salad, an order of salchipapas, and an order of maduros. We added an extra half chicken, and thought "that's a wrap". However, there was an appetizer special of thinly sliced octopus prepared Peruvian style that needed to be ordered too. The service was excellent. Not overwhelming, but just right. Dishes were cleared, napkins replaced, straw wrappers taken away as soon as they hit the table. It's not something that I'm used to writing about, but needed to be said. And then, the food. It was outstanding. Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars. "Bar" well we all know what that means, "vamos, vamos, vamos!" Since my first visit last year, I was hungry for more deliciousness and decided to go with Yelpie friend, Sharon for brunch. Bar Chuzo has the restaurant and bar attachment which is where we dined. I happen to like the bar room for dining, it's charming and quieter for a Sunday brunch. Bar Chuzo offers really nice Brunch selections from ceviche, salchipapas, tuna, steak and apps from delicious fries, calamari, crab, plantain chips, croquettes and so much more. Here's what we ordered: Apps- Plantain chips( dinamita !) with a side of salsa verde. The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. I will DEFINITELY be back to Bar Chuzo and if you haven't been, I urge you to check them out. You will not be disappointed.
