We went to Puertas to celebrate our friend's 35th Wedding Anniversary. The cocktails were amazing and did not disappoint. The food was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and kept checking on us which we appreciated. Puertas is beautiful and is dedicated to the salsa community which is so nice. Given how cold it was outside and how it wasn't crowded, I would have appreciated if the music was just a tad lower. It was difficult to hear the conversation at times and it was only four of us. We all enjoyed our time and meal at Puertas!

Drinks and customer service were great. Came in on a Monday evening so there was no wait for a table. We ordered the cuban sandwich and the pernil with rice and plantain. The pernil was a bit dry but everything else tasted great. I'd try something else on the menu next time.

I went for a friend's birthday brunch recently and the vibe and decor is so vibrant and fun. The wait staff was a bit slow, but glad they accommodated a party of 7 because it's a small place. The cocktails were delicious, and the food was pretty good with generous portions. My only 2 complaints were that the food was a bit over-salted and it took an extremely long time (over an hour) to get out entrees after the appetizers (and it wasn't crowded at that time).

Came here with the family for a birthday celebration. This is my second time here. Staff is amazing. There's nothing but great vibes here. Music is good and food is absolutely delicious. There is a variety of amazing dishes to choose from. I heard they offering an amazing brunch options as well. Love this place!

Very nice ambience and attentive staff. At the bar, I had the Lavoe martini which was excellent. We started with the guacamole and fried Tostones. We also tried the ceviche which to be honest, had more vegetables than seafood, but still tasty. The calamari Frito was very good. The dipping sauce was OK. Shout out to the live salsa band they were great! The place is small but has a lot of potential. The menu prices are good and there's so many amazing entrées to so I'll definitely be going back.

Puertas took over Xin, and what can you say when one takes over a home and keeps the decor but the vibe is very different. When I thought of a different place to eat locally I wanted to try Puertas. I can honestly say the ghost of Xin has vanished. Xin opened @10 years ago and was the first slightly upscale Chinese restaurant in Bay Ridge. Unfortunately, it declined over the years and now the " door" was opened for Puertas. Puertas offers numerous options for Latin cuisine but the menu is not overwhelming. One can start with ceviche or calamari fritters for appetizers and then opt for traditional Latin cuisine like Pernil,, Carne asada, Garlic shrimp to a simple burger. My friend and I shared the House Special salad which was very good: avocados, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro and greens in a light vinaigrette. Smashing! We sipped our cocktails: Margherita for myself ( delicious) and an Espresso Martini for my friend. The live band at this point started jamming and singing Cuban songs. " Bessame Mucho" Then our main entrees arrived: my friend ordered Ropa Vieja, shredded flank steak in an onion red sauce with rice and maduros. She liked it didn't love it. I absolutely loved the Pollo Guisafo: the braised chicken stew with potatoes, carrots, olives in a tomato broth served with white rice. The chicken was tender and the broth very flavorful. It was absolutely delicious and the portion generous thus I took half home. A side of tostones was also served and they were tasty but missing some salsa verde to dip in. The music at this point was extremely loud thus we both ordered another round of Margaritas. It's amazing how alcohol can numb the ringing in your ears. To top off the night we ordered the Coconut Flan to share. It could have been renamed Flan cheesecake due to the density. It wasn't a traditional flan, sauce was underneath. Let's call it an upside down flan! The service was exemplary and on point. Our waitress checked on us a few times and that is appreciated ( water, extra napkins, drink order etc). The only disconnect is the band, yes live music is appreciated. However, one should be told that if seated in the back the band will be right there. I made reservations online and didn't see options for seating. It's difficult to have a conversation when music is blaring. I can definitely recommend Puertas but will be sure to inquire about seating next time. Now, all I hear in my head is "Guantanamera" I need another Margarita....

    Bandaeja Paisa was Outstanding

Three of us got the bandeja paisa The fourth got a Cuban sandwich. Everything was fantastic. We had red and white sangria. Also had crème brûlée and Tres Leche. Everything was outstanding. Can't wait to go back.

Today I celebrated my birthday with friends and had the best experience! The food was delicious and my mocktail mango mojito was soooo good-thank you Kelvin. Gustavo and Kevin were friendly, knowledgeable and funny! When our desserts arrived with fireworks and singing it took the ambiance to another level. Can't wait to return!

It is not saying much for a city that really lacks in Mexican cuisine. To say I did not give this restaurant a fair shake is like saying I only went to an ice cream shop and only ordered the cone. I went all out there, which is maybe why I received the service I received, or maybe it is because I sat next to what appeared to be my server's children. Whatever the case, I was treated well here. Onto the food. The Sopa Azteca (their tortilla soup) is a nice change from what I had at a previous Mexican restaurant. I would like the portion to be bigger and more meat in it, but I like the Mexican spices and the variety here. It is quite enjoyable. The Queso Fundido should be called a Queso No Divertido. It was awful to eat, with lousy flavor and texture. This is the second time I have struck out with this appetizer. It is safe to say I am done ordering it in this city. Nobody does it right. The Paella is nice, but at its core has the essence of a nice dish. Some parts are full of tremendous flavor, and some parts are dry and bland. I ate this all out of necessity, and also because once I mixed the bland with the good it actually turned into something quite pleasant. The chicken enchiladas I ordered because it would not be fair to come here and pass up something Tex-Mex as an entree. The chicken is inconsistent, well cooked in some spots, dry in others. The salsa verde has a lot of kick here, but the side salad and charro beans nearly ruin the whole thing. At least the Mexican rice is fluffy and has great flavor. Speaking Spanish to the staff helped curry points in the service department. I like family owned businesses. Everybody was busy and on point. So what if the food does not wow, I have given more, for less. Hence why this is a three star review and not a two star review.

Every visit feels like catching up with an old friend who knows exactly how you like your salsa. That consistency is as comforting as it is rare in the city that never sleeps. Before we even flipped open the menu, they slid over complimentary chips and pico de gallo that set the bar impossibly high. The pico was bursting with bright, tangy tomatoes and cilantro, and those homemade chips were the perfect balance of crisp and salty. It was the kind of welcome that makes you cancel your other dinner plans on the spot. I went for the Taco de Birria made with brisket, and I swear the richest consomé I've ever tasted lived up to its name. Each taco got dunked into that deep, savory broth, then inhaled faster than a greased pig at a county fair. By taco number three, I was pretty sure I'd found my soulmate in molten cheese and slow-cooked meat form. 'The Man' ordered the Chicken Mole, which came with a generous scoop of rice and beans on the side. He sat back, took that first bite, and basically entered a state of pure food-induced bliss. Watching him lose track of time as he devoured every last drop of mole was its own kind of entertainment. We washed it all down with a Piña Margarita, along with another cocktail that leaned so hard into the tequila you could almost feel the agave fields. Add a Modelo on the side and you've got a drinks menu that doesn't play around. These aren't dainty sips--they're the kind that could very reasonably put hair on your chest. Service here is so personalized it's almost telepathic. We never waited more than a second for a refill or a check, and the staff felt like an invisible waitress on standby, ready to swoop in the moment we so much as blinked. We left a hefty tip without hesitation because they earned every penny. Las Margaritas on 3rd and 92nd isn't just our go-to--it's a staple. Whether we're craving tacos at home in our pajamas or settling in for a full sit-down dinner, we know they'll deliver every single time. Consider us regulars for life.

Tres leches and cakes are top-tier we're cake people, so churros didn't stand a chance. 2- Drinks? Tasty but super sugary and a tad pricey. Still, come for the food. Very complex flavors) and the Queen of the Desert (cool refreshing cucumber followed by a spicy heat in the back of your throat, grew on me over time). Food was also quite good. I enjoyed the truffle popcorn and I still have no idea how they made those lemongrass chicken ginger dumplings so yummy (I normally don't even like chicken dumplings bc they're usually not as juicy as pork, but these didn't have that problem). Let's first talk about the wheat toast: I tasted it naked and it simply melted in my mouth. The ingredients worked well together, perfect synchronicity. I used one half of the toast to sop up any fallen ingredients. Highly recommend! For a drink, I wanted something a bit different, thus, ordered the Mango Mint Peach tea, fruity with a hint of mint. Loved it and went well with the Sammy! There are lovely options besides breakfast sandwiches like quinoa, oatmeal, granola, pancakes, French toast.. breakfast is served all day and lunch is served @noon. I arrived before 12 and was told I can order breakfast or lunch. It has a cozy, intimate vibe which I love.. one where you can dine solo, or do work or read or just enjoy the fabulous food. I will make "The Common" my home away from home. Additionally, there are cooking classes in their Park Slope location; the courses look great: Italian feast, Moroccan cooking, Wine Pairing and many more. Check out their website for more info. More to come from me.. The Common is located on 9406 3rd Avenue

Stopped by for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and waited about 30 minutes for a table for two. The…read moreplace has a cozy, homey vibe, and the open kitchen makes it feel very welcoming. We ordered the chicken liver mousse, crispy potato tart, and burger. The chicken liver mousse is a must order and something I get every time I come here, whether it is this location or the Park Slope one. The mousse itself is rich, creamy, savory, and packed with umami. I just wish it came with something better on the side. The pita was a little underwhelming and was not warmed all the way through. The crispy potato tart was excellent. The potato was super crispy, and a bite with the salmon, egg, sour cream, and potato together was perfect. The lightly dressed arugula helped cut through the richness and made for a nice palate cleanser. The burger looked pretty simple when it arrived, but it ended up being surprisingly good. The patty was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Overall, a great neighborhood spot and one I would happily come back to.
