We went to Puertas to celebrate our friend's 35th Wedding Anniversary. The cocktails were amazing and did not disappoint. The food was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and kept checking on us which we appreciated. Puertas is beautiful and is dedicated to the salsa community which is so nice. Given how cold it was outside and how it wasn't crowded, I would have appreciated if the music was just a tad lower. It was difficult to hear the conversation at times and it was only four of us. We all enjoyed our time and meal at Puertas!

Drinks and customer service were great. Came in on a Monday evening so there was no wait for a table. We ordered the cuban sandwich and the pernil with rice and plantain. The pernil was a bit dry but everything else tasted great. I'd try something else on the menu next time.

I went for a friend's birthday brunch recently and the vibe and decor is so vibrant and fun. The wait staff was a bit slow, but glad they accommodated a party of 7 because it's a small place. The cocktails were delicious, and the food was pretty good with generous portions. My only 2 complaints were that the food was a bit over-salted and it took an extremely long time (over an hour) to get out entrees after the appetizers (and it wasn't crowded at that time).

Came here with the family for a birthday celebration. This is my second time here. Staff is amazing. There's nothing but great vibes here. Music is good and food is absolutely delicious. There is a variety of amazing dishes to choose from. I heard they offering an amazing brunch options as well. Love this place!

Very nice ambience and attentive staff. At the bar, I had the Lavoe martini which was excellent. We started with the guacamole and fried Tostones. We also tried the ceviche which to be honest, had more vegetables than seafood, but still tasty. The calamari Frito was very good. The dipping sauce was OK. Shout out to the live salsa band they were great! The place is small but has a lot of potential. The menu prices are good and there's so many amazing entrées to so I'll definitely be going back.

    Coconut flan, very good

Puertas took over Xin, and what can you say when one takes over a home and keeps the decor but the vibe is very different. When I thought of a different place to eat locally I wanted to try Puertas. I can honestly say the ghost of Xin has vanished. Xin opened @10 years ago and was the first slightly upscale Chinese restaurant in Bay Ridge. Unfortunately, it declined over the years and now the " door" was opened for Puertas. Puertas offers numerous options for Latin cuisine but the menu is not overwhelming. One can start with ceviche or calamari fritters for appetizers and then opt for traditional Latin cuisine like Pernil,, Carne asada, Garlic shrimp to a simple burger. My friend and I shared the House Special salad which was very good: avocados, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro and greens in a light vinaigrette. Smashing! We sipped our cocktails: Margherita for myself ( delicious) and an Espresso Martini for my friend. The live band at this point started jamming and singing Cuban songs. " Bessame Mucho" Then our main entrees arrived: my friend ordered Ropa Vieja, shredded flank steak in an onion red sauce with rice and maduros. She liked it didn't love it. I absolutely loved the Pollo Guisafo: the braised chicken stew with potatoes, carrots, olives in a tomato broth served with white rice. The chicken was tender and the broth very flavorful. It was absolutely delicious and the portion generous thus I took half home. A side of tostones was also served and they were tasty but missing some salsa verde to dip in. The music at this point was extremely loud thus we both ordered another round of Margaritas. It's amazing how alcohol can numb the ringing in your ears. To top off the night we ordered the Coconut Flan to share. It could have been renamed Flan cheesecake due to the density. It wasn't a traditional flan, sauce was underneath. Let's call it an upside down flan! The service was exemplary and on point. Our waitress checked on us a few times and that is appreciated ( water, extra napkins, drink order etc). The only disconnect is the band, yes live music is appreciated. However, one should be told that if seated in the back the band will be right there. I made reservations online and didn't see options for seating. It's difficult to have a conversation when music is blaring. I can definitely recommend Puertas but will be sure to inquire about seating next time. Now, all I hear in my head is "Guantanamera" I need another Margarita....

    Bandaeja Paisa was Outstanding

Three of us got the bandeja paisa The fourth got a Cuban sandwich. Everything was fantastic. We had red and white sangria. Also had crème brûlée and Tres Leche. Everything was outstanding. Can't wait to go back.

Today I celebrated my birthday with friends and had the best experience! The food was delicious and my mocktail mango mojito was soooo good-thank you Kelvin. Gustavo and Kevin were friendly, knowledgeable and funny! When our desserts arrived with fireworks and singing it took the ambiance to another level. Can't wait to return!

The Cocktails: Expertly crafted and sophisticated. It was refreshing to have drinks that were perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The coffee was served alongside dessert, it was rich and the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful meal. While the Filet Mignon was a popular and well loved choice among our group, and the Meatballs were universally raved about for being truly excellent, the real showstopper for me was the Chicken Parmesan. I don't typically order steak, so I was delighted by this choice. The cutlet was impressively sized yet elegantly thin, showcasing the high quality of the chicken. It was served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, which was such a comforting and delicious pairing. It did remind me of visiting Germany believe it or not like a schnitzel style cutlet but still very italian if that makes any sense. If you visit, you simply cannot miss the fried eggplant appetizer with burrata. It is divine! It is not saying much for a city that really lacks in Mexican cuisine. To say I did not give this restaurant a fair shake is like saying I only went to an ice cream shop and only ordered the cone. I went all out there, which is maybe why I received the service I received, or maybe it is because I sat next to what appeared to be my server's children. Whatever the case, I was treated well here. Onto the food. The Sopa Azteca (their tortilla soup) is a nice change from what I had at a previous Mexican restaurant. I would like the portion to be bigger and more meat in it, but I like the Mexican spices and the variety here. It is quite enjoyable. The Queso Fundido should be called a Queso No Divertido. It was awful to eat, with lousy flavor and texture. This is the second time I have struck out with this appetizer. It is safe to say I am done ordering it in this city. Nobody does it right. The Paella is nice, but at its core has the essence of a nice dish. Some parts are full of tremendous flavor, and some parts are dry and bland. I ate this all out of necessity, and also because once I mixed the bland with the good it actually turned into something quite pleasant. The chicken enchiladas I ordered because it would not be fair to come here and pass up something Tex-Mex as an entree. The chicken is inconsistent, well cooked in some spots, dry in others. The salsa verde has a lot of kick here, but the side salad and charro beans nearly ruin the whole thing. At least the Mexican rice is fluffy and has great flavor. Speaking Spanish to the staff helped curry points in the service department. I like family owned businesses. Everybody was busy and on point. So what if the food does not wow, I have given more, for less. Hence why this is a three star review and not a two star review.

The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. I will DEFINITELY be back to Bar Chuzo and if you haven't been, I urge you to check them out. You will not be disappointed.
