I've been here several times and had many items from their menu, they are absolutely delicious! My favorite dishes are Caldo de Salchichas and Arroz Marinero and my boyfriend never gets enough of their Pescado Frito. The service is very good, though the servers probably only speak Spanish, my Spanish finally got good enough so I don't panic when they speak to me ;) You can also choose your sides with some of the dishes. My boyfriend and I always choose rice and beans, but you have the option to have fries(papas fritas) too, just ask! Castillo Restaurant is a very unassuming Latin restaurant that doesn't hype itself up. We came here on a quiet Thursday afternoon, and after reviewing the menu del dia {your standard fries + chicken}, we decided to go a little more authentic and get normal fare. My partner ordered the bistec meal and I went for the encebollado with seafood. Encebollado is a traditional Ecuadorian fish soup with a tomato base with boiled cassava and red onion. While we waited, we were graced with sturdy chips and a thin salsa and our drinks that were quickly made - a maracuya fruit shake with milk, and a lulo shake with water. Both were extremely delicious and tasted fresh. I also appreciated that after I entered speaking Spanish, they entertained my practice by engaging me only in castellano. This chino appreciates their friendliness! As for the food, the bistec was your standard fare - nothing special, but I quite enjoyed all of the flavours melding in for the encebollado. It tasted just like it did when I was in Ecuador, and there was plenty of large fish chunks and shrimp. The food is really good. I have been doing take out for a long time. Their rotisserie chicken is excellent. Succulent, juice and with enough seasoning. Not overwhelming. I order the whole chicken and love to add cold chicken to a salad on the following day. The seafood soup is wonderful. With a variety of seafood: mussels, clams, shrimp and crab, a light cream sauce and some fettuccini, which one may think don't belong in the soup, but work out nicely and they were not overcooked at all. First time trying this place and honestly, i dont see us coming back here. We ordered delivery and here was our food experience. The steak was salty and dry with no flavor and the rice it came with was hard. We ordered maduros with cheese, and the cheese was not melted or even hot. The cheese came in gigantic chunky slices. Perhaps that is how the dish is made normally however it was not what we were expecting. We ordered sweet maduros and the maduros were not sweet! We also ordered mote pillo con queso. From what i heard, i was expecting an eggs and cheese dish mixed with corn. We got that but the eggs were runny and not thoroughly cooked, again blocks of cheese instead of mixed in and melted, and the corn was, how do i say, separate from the dish it felt like. There was definitely corn but it didnt meld well with the dish and felt like we should've just had it on the side. read more

Small place, but intimate. Food was good, however my order was given to someone else and i had to wait an extra 40 minutes for my order. The waitress gave my party an extremely hard time with our bills and splitting checks which made it even more difficult to try and round up cash from everyone and pay rather than everyone paying on their card. Our waitress tried to charge us for extra food and drinks that we did not have because she kept mixing our table up with another. Good portion of good, OK flavor. Authentic Spanish (Dominican) food. We usually get delivery because the inside seating is very limited. I love their menu of food already prepared as well as their other menu options. Their maduros are delicious! If you're a true maduros lover you'll know they're hard to find. Some places make them too dry and/or hard, but here they're soft, delicious and sweet. read more

Excellent, and very authentic, Ecuadorian. You can tell whether a place is worthwhile based on whether it serves Mote (large corn kernel dishes made of something from the same family) or Higos Con Queso (a delicious sweet dessert.) Prices were economical, and everything tasted great. The downside was the language barrier. Tried a few times to orden dulces, pero they didn't speak enough English, or me, Spanish, to get that across somehow. Or they were just distracted. Fried fish was very delicious . Side salad was much better than I would expect from a Latin restaurant. Empanada was what the doctor ordered. Tostones were not greasy,(they could have given me more). It's always a good sign when Latinos pack in a joint like this,and they sure did. I will definitely come back the next time I am in the area. read more

Fist thing I want to mention is that I very very rarely write any reviews, but after seeing the reviews on yelp for this establishment, I was compelled to write my very recent experience. When I have to opologize to my date about the less than good experience this restaurant provided, then I have to say something about it. This place was disappointing. We came here for Valentine's Day. Food was mediocre, service was terrible. It was also as cold inside as it was outside. We and every other patrons in this establishment were wearing our coats inside while eating, within 10 minutes the food was stone cold. I would never visit this establishment again. read more

Came with my parents recently. We were in the neighborhood and they remembered they came here a few years ago and enjoyed the food. I have had Ecuadorian food before, and always enjoyed it. This place continues that record. They brought complimentary homemade plantain chips with a dipping sauce. The chips and sauce were good. The sauce had a mayo-garlic taste to it. Both of my parents ordered fish. My mom ordered the whole snapper, while my father ordered the broiled fish. Both tasted great, but I preferred my fathers. I thought it was the best dish on the table. I forgot the name of my order, but it was supposed to be pork version of lomo saltado. I said the order, pointed to it, and the waitress confirmed it. However, I still got beef instead of pork. I think the chef probably misheard. Once I saw fries and not the plantains, I knew it was the wrong order. However, it tasted great, so I ate it. However, I would like to try the pork. The hot sauce on the table was great as well. It looked house made. We had a great experience, minus getting the wrong order. Today we finally went in and I was like, "What have I been missing out on?!" I thought this was a steam table chicken stew with rice 'n beans kind of joint. No, sir!
