Dined here with friends last night and had an enjoyable dinner. First, the Happy Hour from 4-7pm is a big draw. Additionally, the cocktail options are nicely priced: sangria from $8, cervezas from $5 and mixed drinks from $12. The menu offers traditional Mexican fare; my favorite is the cheese enchiladas with a verde sauce which myself and friend Sally ordered. It is a very filling entree: three enchiladas, yellow rice, salad, beans in a verde sauce. The verde sauce has a nice kick to it. My friend Cathryn ordered chicken enchiladas. They also serve great tortas and my friend Virginia ordered the Chicken torta; hearty sandwich with Chicken Milanese. As an appetizer, we ordered the always fresh and delicious guacamole and Totopos. The cocktails were flowing: $5 Coronas with lime, Rainbow Margaritas, Sangria and a Rye Smash. The music selections are always great and had us bopping as we dined. No snickering. This is largely because of the sweet customer service. A three star review for more like two star quality. It is not saying much for a city that really lacks in Mexican cuisine. To say I did not give this restaurant a fair shake is like saying I only went to an ice cream shop and only ordered the cone. I went all out there, which is maybe why I received the service I received, or maybe it is because I sat next to what appeared to be my server's children. Whatever the case, I was treated well here. Onto the food. The Sopa Azteca (their tortilla soup) is a nice change from what I had at a previous Mexican restaurant. I would like the portion to be bigger and more meat in it, but I like the Mexican spices and the variety here. It is quite enjoyable. The Queso Fundido should be called a Queso No Divertido. It was awful to eat, with lousy flavor and texture. This is the second time I have struck out with this appetizer. It is safe to say I am done ordering it in this city. Nobody does it right. The Paella is nice, but at its core has the essence of a nice dish. Some parts are full of tremendous flavor, and some parts are dry and bland. I ate this all out of necessity, and also because once I mixed the bland with the good it actually turned into something quite pleasant. The chicken enchiladas I ordered because it would not be fair to come here and pass up something Tex-Mex as an entree. The chicken is inconsistent, well cooked in some spots, dry in others. The salsa verde has a lot of kick here, but the side salad and charro beans nearly ruin the whole thing. At least the Mexican rice is fluffy and has great flavor. Speaking Spanish to the staff helped curry points in the service department. I like family owned businesses. Everybody was busy and on point. So what if the food does not wow, I have given more, for less. Hence why this is a three star review and not a two star review. read more

This review is for Spring '26. Service did not come across as friendly. Issue with a drink was corrected but was slow and no apology was offered. The guacamole was delicious and well prepared but came with a very small portion of round crispy tortillas and when we asked for more, we were not advised there would be a $5 charge. The service and decor are spot on on for a cute night out. I tried the menudo soup and it was really tasty and flavorful, but this was a good realization that I personally do not enjoy tripe(lol). On my first visit, time and phone battery issues meant there was no chance for Yelp research, and when I asked for ordering advice, there was an emphatic recommendation for pastel Azteca, described as Mexican lasagna. This was a great item and we also shared it on the second visit. Fish ceviche also earned a second order thanks to the delightful blast of citrus. If you value Instagrammable colors in your seafood apps, try the aguachile, a fruitier/sweeter variety than usual. When prickly pear, strawberry and habanero combine forces you know it's going to be a good time. And the chile relleno was a knockout with a superb sauce. To quote Eric Bogosian, the ambiance and fine service are the "icing on the gravy." Everyone's been great on both visits; tonight, Johnny provided excellent service. He was friendly and offered us more chips to ward off the risk of dippable items lacking an implement for dipping. read more

The food was very good. We ordered the enchiladas, a burrito, and two margaritas, and everything tasted great. The only issue was with the chips and salsa. We had considered ordering nachos, but first asked if chips and salsa came with the meal. We were told yes, so we were surprised to see a $15 charge on the bill, $10 for the first chips and salsa and an additional $5 for more chips. When we asked for more chips, no one mentioned there would be an extra charge. It may have been our fault for not looking at the menu more closely, but I did ask whether chips and salsa came with the meal, so the charge felt unexpected. Also, the restaurant was very warm inside. Between the alcohol, spicy food, and the 80-degree weather outside, it would have been nice if the temperature had been a little more comfortable. The food here is decent. I tried the queso fundido with rajas and chile relleno with cheese. The queso fundido with a flour tortilla was pretty good - melted cheese with some spice. As the dish cooled, the cheese got a bit stringy, and the tortillas dried out pretty fast just wrapped in wax paper. The chile relleno was also nice. There was a bit of a mix up with my order and they accidentally gave me one with chicken instead, but they swapped it out when I notified the staff. The broth was savory, though the chile itself was pretty mild. It was a bit hard to cut into as it absorbed the broth. The sides of rice, beans, and salad were nice accompaniments. If anything, I could've used a bigger plate/bowl to make the food easier to cut and prevent the salad from spilling out of the plate. The prices were similar to what you'd find in Manhattan, at around $50 total with tax and tip, which was a bit unexpected. Though it was definitely a bit too much food for one, so I'd stick with just an entree next time. read more

The Ceviche alone makes this place a 10/10.... sometimes me and my girl will come in just for happy hour and split some shrimp ceviche it is literally so good i DREAM ABOUT IT! But beyond that the service has always been great, staff are friendly and attentive. The space itself is nice too. I stumbled on this cute spot today and I couldn't be happier. The walls had a Southwestern style- mud texture, light pastel colors and colorful skull/clown sculptures throughout. You can definitely tell that it had a feminine touch. If you arrive at this spot before 4pm, get the lunch special. It's after dinner and I'm still full because the chicken fajitas came with a salad, rice, beans, and tortilla on the side. It also had a nice sauce, but I still had to add the green & red pepper sauce to spice it up. I shared my food and still felt more than content & the presentation was beautiful. The other two in my party got the steak tacos w/ rice & beans and shrimp tacos off the regular menu. Everyone gushed at the flavor, portions, and price. My passionfruit mezcal mule was smoky, but really sour. I do wish it had a little more balance (tart/sweet), but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Lastly, the waitress was friendly. I don't know where to start: The vibes were authentic trendy Mexican restaurant. The cocktail list was very creative, I tried the Nacho Libre and Chavela, both were delicious but I would recommend the Chavela. The cocktail list is so interesting that it's hard to pick just 1 or 2 cocktails. The food was amazing. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time, maybe ever. I don't mean for Bay Ridge or Brooklyn. I mean in general. The guacamole was fresh, well seasoned and well prepared. Their new location has such an artist vibe. It's like being whisked away to a small town in Mexico. The yard has peaceful vibes and the interior is so beautifully decorated. Vibes aside, this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Bay Ridge. Hands down the best guacamole I've tried (it's flavors are bright and fresh, with real chunks of avocado and no filler). The food quality is top notch, always fresh and delicious and in season. The bartender makes a mean drink, no matter what you order, and their aguas frescas are great if you abstain from alcohol. On a final note, the service is so friendly and attentive. I cant say enough good things about them.
