    Ecuadorian platter

Amazing local Ecuadorian spot with cheap and very authentic food. I got the platter special, which included a potato cake, pulled pork, tripe and potato stew and shrimp ceviche. It was a very big portion for one person and so flavorful!

I've been here several times and had many items from their menu, they are absolutely delicious! My favorite dishes are Caldo de Salchichas and Arroz Marinero and my boyfriend never gets enough of their Pescado Frito. The service is very good, though the servers probably only speak Spanish, my Spanish finally got good enough so I don't panic when they speak to me ;) You can also choose your sides with some of the dishes. My boyfriend and I always choose rice and beans, but you have the option to have fries(papas fritas) too, just ask! I also ordered take out here, but it's hit or miss, so I learned to eat in only.

Left Roosevelt, Queens-where there are long strips of Ecuadorian restaurants- in search of better Ecuadorian food and I found it here in Castillo Restaurant. Great portions, good seasoning, fair prices, and modern/homie ambience feel.

The pork chop with yellow rice is amazing! One of my favorite places for quick Dominican style food. Highly recommend

This is one of those few gems that still exist in this time of inflation where you get alot for your buck. I haven't had a red snapper in awhile so I decided to treat myself to one for $22. It came complete with tostones and a salad. It was so good that I basically attacked it with my teeth and hands to the point that people were staring at me. I only know this for a fact because my dad reported it to me at the end of dinner. I was too enthralled in my dish to notice or care. My daughter had the Churrasco and rice with beans along with a side of salad. My father had a soup of shrimp swimming with explosive flavor. The whole dinner came out to $78 dollars including for 2 soda cans. The service there was impeccable. My dad changed his mind about his order twice and the waitress didn't lose her patience with him for even a second. So she must be some kind of saint. If you want food that tastes like your abuela made it, then you should definitely try Rico Pollo III.

While I was waiting, a mother and daughter cut in front of me. I tried to get the attention of the server and politely informed her that I had been waiting in line before the person she was currently serving, but I was ignored. Shortly after, another waitress approached me and told me that dogs were not allowed. I explained that my dog is a service animal and that I have documentation and a permit that I could show if needed. Despite this, the staff continued helping customers who arrived after me. In the end, no one came to take my order, and I left without buying anything. This was extremely disappointing and very poor service, especially for someone who is a regular customer.

I was passing through Sunset Park and hadn't eaten since breakfast. I saw an Ecuadorian spot near…read morethe train, but it had a B grade, so I passed. Defeated, that only made me want Ecuadorian food even more. I began a mission to get a plate of llapingachos (mashed potatoes laced with cheese and topped with peanut sauce, a typical dish in the Cuenca/Azogues area of Ecuador.) Yelp did not fail me. I walked south and found this place just after some scaffolding. I sat down and was promptly given a menu. Llapingachos are usually eaten with fritada (fried pork) or hornado (roast pork, like pernil.) Them I saw guatita (tripe with peanut sauce) and was almost lead astray and said to myself, No, you came here for llapingachos and llapingachos you shall have. The menu had pictures and I even saw a plate pairing them with steak and eggs. It was a hard decision, but I went with that. The waitress brought out green sauce, called ají in Colombia (not sure what it's called in Ecuador.) my husband ordered the bandeja paisa, a Colombian dish. I waited in trepidation, as I was starving at this point. The food came and I was unsure what to go for first. The meat, the llapingachos, the fried eggs, the salad, or the rice. I gave each a turn. What I love about Ecuadorian cooking, is that there's often a variety of foods on one plate. I hadn't had this plate in ages, so this was a real treat. I wasn't feeling 100% today, so the meal was hearty, yet had nothing to upset my stomach. It turned out to be just the right thing for me. My husband enjoyed his meal, though it was a riff on the traditional plate. They left out the area yet added a few pieces of pork on the bone. He seemed to enjoy his meal. I'd go back. In fact, a personal obligation will require me to be back in the neighborhood in a few days and now I have a little spot to go to that I can trust. I might just try the guatita this time.
