Tamarindo juice didn't taste like anything the sancocho not a fan the only thing that looks ok we haven't try it is the Maduro. This is not the first time last time I went in person and I asked for a chicken soup and when I got home if you see the chicken they gave me I was shocked. Food is authentic and deliciously good. With so many choices around the hood there are gems amongst the crud and this is a gem. Family goes here regularly. We've catered from here more than once. Our go to orders are pernil, arroz con gandules, habichuelas, roasted chicken, their sweet plantains are banging. I have never personally sat there to eat. It's a tiny place. This was exactly what I wanted. In the hugely latin neighborhood of "Gunset Park," there are a huge amount of restaurant options. This one just happened to be... where I was standing at the moment I became hungry. Ordered rice with chorizo and was presented with a plate which was pretty close to a 50/50 split of meat and rice. I ended up taking most of it home. It came (to make this the most carbohydrate filled meal ever) with a basket of delicious buttered toast. Slap some Goya hot sauce on it (obviously) and you're good as golden. This is a VERY tiny 'hole-in-the-wall' eatery --with just a few tables--and extremely cramped. Spanish language only. The food is authentic, flavorful, hot, filling. and cheap. But the question is, do you want to actually sit down in here to eat? It's quite claustrophobic and ratty. What with the yellow walls and sun-faded windows, its all a bit limp, frayed, and weary looking. Probably due to the proximity of the steam trays to everything. Anyway --to dine here--you weave your way between the tables to the back. There's just a narrow little space running along the buffet at which you must get in line to place an order. This is off-putting. Though there's just a few dishes to choose from, you will find that all the patrons take an inordinately long time, hemming-and-hawing over what they want, how much they want, asking the prices, etc. So you will be very uncomfortable waiting in line there, bunched-up-close to some really down-at-heels street-people and day-laborers. The next bit of awkwardness is that customers must then squirm back out past everyone else carrying plates of hot food. And then back out to look for an open table (if there's any left). Never any guarantee there will be any seats, so its a little like a game of musical chairs. Things are fairly 'tense'. Surprisingly, there is a jukebox--but its only the crudest, simplest manufacture possible; with no screen--just a very tiny choices-window about the size of a credit card. The kind you only find in latin joints. This one--well, you can't really play it because you'd be standing there squinting at the thing--trying to find some gringo tunes--and totally blocking the aisle for everyone, since it is hard by the front door. " So I looked at the menu and just ordered the daily special that was recited by our waitress. Platano Maduro = The bananas were not ripe. Seemed more like plantains. Beef Stew = Passable Pernil = Was devoured by my friend, looked real moist. Rice and Beans = Come on, it was good. If you cant make rice and beans you are in trouble. The food here is great and super authentic. The portions and prices are decent too! Dont go here if you're planning to have a nice sit down meal. It's one of those hole in the walls that you go there just for the food. Oh and every time I've gone they never have oxtail stew! I think they should take that off the menu cause they never make it! This little hole in the wall has been in the neighborhood forever, the food is really not bad however just do a take out, the table service sucks big time, upon helping myself to one available of relatively few tables, I immediately noticed the table was dirty from from prior customer use, after a little bit of waiting for the one waitress whom only then noticed the dirty table, proceeded to wipe it with some dingy grey looking rag. Ordered the Sunday lunch special which included a choice of sides; decided on rice which seemed as if that was the main order because that's what I mostly received as opposed to the main meat order(skimping). Left what was mostly rice upon eating what little meat portion was served. Before departing, I asked for a "flan" which took forever only to be told there wasn't any more left. Enough skin to make a chicken skin coat for winter and sauce so thick I wanted to boil a pot of spaghetti and have the sauce on top. Yes ladies and gents the chicken was that bad. The rice and beans was standard restaurant quality no real complaints there. The chicharonnes de pollo sin hueso was burned beyond recognition. The plantains was again standard nothing much to say about them. It's just dang why would you even put those bones in a container and pass it off to a human being is besides me. Back in the day this was the spot, it's a little hole in the wall an there decor ain't the best there staff isn't that great BUT there food has always been decent. I mean great portions an the flavor is on point. My fav pepper steak with onion so delish. Let me start by saying that I have been coming to this place for almost ten years. They make the best chicharonnes de pollo sin hueso. I love the food here and I actually chose to come here for Valentine's Day. What a mistake! ! I don't know when they added the Ghetto music to the jukebox, but it made eating with my toddler not pleasant. Eating with the blasting Spanish music is fine, as they don't swear, but listening to F this and F that while eating and listening to it at levels inappropriate sucks! Not only that, but as we were enjoying our meal, a roach decided to join us for a snack. Needless to say, we paid the bill and left and this will be the last time I dine here. i have ordered delivery from this place lots of times, loooove their Carne de res fritaor how they call it picadera (fried steak) its delicious and unlike other places its so moist and flavorfull, what i hate about this place with a passion is that they take forever to deliver they have a poor guy on a bike and they are always busy, it takes them minimun 1 hour to deliver and the are not that far from where i live, they needto stop being cheap and invest on a vehicle for the place, imagine the poor guy driving a bike under the snow or rain (yes i have seen it)...another thing their french fries suck, but overal if you like some good latin food and dont mind the loooooong wait or going in and eating there a very small place you will deff enjoy their flavor. read more

The octopus salad is delicious! The morro de gandules is moist and delicious and the chicken is very meaty and moist. If you have dietary restrictions, like you can only eat halal or kosher, then don't eat here. If you prefer that a restaurant not cut your chicken with the same knife that they cut the pork rib, then do not eat here, either. The bottles of soda - Country Club - are over priced. Overall, the customer service is acceptable and the food we ate was fresh, delicious and remniscent of times spent in the DR. read more
