Chicken wirh rice and beans (top) Seafood paella (bottom)
    Ana M.

I haven't really tried many paella dishes but the paella here is heavenly! I ordered takeout and the paella can take some time to cook. The rice was jam packed with seafood flavor and it was not too acidic. They are also quite generous with the seafood meat! I docked 1 star because of the chicken rice. Honestly, I wouldn't suggest this dish. The chicken was awfully dry and didnt offer much flavor. But definitely I will be back for that paella and I highly recommend to try out the paella!

Half chicken. Yellow rice n beans. Maduros and an interesting looking empanada. Can't wait to try

Ok. I enjoyed my food a lot! I read the reviews and they were definitely a mixed bunch of opinions but I went with my gut on this one and was not disappointed. They got my order right! Chicken was not dry. It was very flavorful . I don't know if I would order the empanada again. Not Because of the Taste- it did taste good but because I'm a traditional girl. I want my regular crust. I wasn't with the whole biting into a dinner roll type thing . I will be ordering again, and I would also recommend this to someone looking for some Spanish food!

Large portion chicken platter $8, sweet plantains ($4). Everything was too dry to eat
    Florence V.

One word - dry. Chicken was very dry, wings were so dehydrated that it tasted like a jerky. Sweet plantains were effortlessly dumped in the fryer and became.. you guessed it - dry. I ordered 1/4 chicken with rice and beans and a side order of sweet plantains. Dry all around except for the beans and the mushy rice. Not a satisfying meal and a bit disappointed. Value was really good though, large portions but what help is a large portion if you don't enjoy it. I've ignored the reviews and gave it the benefit of doubt. Never again, won't be back.

Who would of thought there is actual authentic Peruvian food on 18th Ave. Brooklyn. I was surprised to see this shop. At the time few customers were inside which is a bad sign but saw that Yelp recommends it. Seems they have a big take out delivery clientele which makes for sparse customers in the store. The food though is authentic and spot on and reminded me of my travels to Peru. They even have chicha and inca cola drinks which i've only seen in peru. Go to dishes for sure are the half roast chicken with yellow rice and black beans. The chicken is succulent juicy and tender with nice roasted skin. The pork chops are big portions and tender. The platanos were sweet and fried up but a bit too oily. I'm also a big fan of peruvian green sauce. This one did have the spicey kick i remember but can tend to be a bit salty for some folks taste. I thought it was super salty but with the chicken and rice brings down the sodium. Noticed they have chifa as well which is peruvian style chinese fried rice. So authentic and will definitley try this next time. Service was good for both take out and sit in and prices were affordable. Great spot for the store i'll be back for more.

Picked up oxtail with yellow rice & a side of rotisserie chicken for my boyfriend for dinner. Ladies who took my order were nice and patient (my first time here & didn't know they serve oxtail so we had a last minute change of mind of what we wanted). Both dishes were really good! Indoor decor is so cute (I love plants), too bad we can't indoor dine. We will be ordering again!

My favorite mom and pop go to for comfort food! The pork chops are my new fav, you ever want to eat good and not break the bank well this is the way to go!

    Nervio Saltado

We always order from this place and its always delicious, however, this last time we had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes for a delivery. To top it off, the chicken was bland and flavorless (Peruvians are known for their amazing chicken!), the Lomo Saltado was full of fat and nerves and the experience was overall pretty disappointing. Disappointing enough to not make us order again.

I used to work on the same block as the original El Pollo on New Utrecht Ave so I was very pleased to see them open up a new shop very close to my apt in a spot that once housed a Mexican restaurant that had a not so well kept secret of having a bordello in the apts upstairs. Well the Popo finally shut that down (frankly I was scared to eat there) and after a few months of nothing in the spot El Pollo 3 emerged. The spot is much nicer than the hole in the wall original, very modern looking with nice wood tables, stylish wall mountings and 2 flat screen tv's. The ladies behind the counter are as friendly as the original. I ordered the Papas Rellena to start. Its a potato stuffed with ground beef, olives, hard boiled egg, onions and garlic. They serve it with a small red onion salad. It was a very satisfying starter and for just 4 bucks could easily make a cheap lunch. Of course I had to get the chicken because it's what they are known for and that is always my rule for first times and the chicken was delicious. Moist and full of flavor all through, they must seriously marinade these babies. The skin was delicious if it could be just a tad crispier. The rice and Beans were fine. Needed a shot of hot sauce but while not the best I have had they werent bad. Very happy to see this place as I love the Latin places when I am in Ridgewood and was hoping they would open up one in Bensonhurst as the area has enough of a Latin population to merit it.

    Undercooked (or unripe?) Maduros.

My brother and I were going to order from the new Utrecht avenue location, but saw this was closer and ordered from here instead. MISTAKE. 1) Empanadas are miserable. See photo. The insides looked like burnt and dried ground beef. Tasted like 3 day old crumbs wiped from the microwave. Inedible. The empanadas at new Utrecht are far superior. 2) the pernil tasted like salt. I don't mean that it was salty, I mean it tasted like a spoonful of salt. Could not taste any pernil underneath. My brother, who powers his way through any dish no matter how cold or how inferior, had to stop eating less than halfway through because it was too salty. 3) Maduros were hard and undercooked. See photo. I'm not sure if it's because ripe Maduros are hard to come by this season, but the inside was soft and the outsides were hard and bland.

That set the tone of attentive service, which continued throughout an exceptional meal in Bath Beach. This area is busy, in a locals doing their thing kind of way. It's a real neighborhood, and La Chacra is a great reason to check it out. We initially had decided on ordering the Combo La Chacra, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice with red beans, an avocado salad, an order of salchipapas, and an order of maduros. We added an extra half chicken, and thought "that's a wrap". However, there was an appetizer special of thinly sliced octopus prepared Peruvian style that needed to be ordered too. The service was excellent. Not overwhelming, but just right. Dishes were cleared, napkins replaced, straw wrappers taken away as soon as they hit the table. It's not something that I'm used to writing about, but needed to be said. And then, the food. It was outstanding. Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars. The prices are very reasonable and the food, service, and charming atmosphere will have us returning soon.

From Argentinian styled empanadas to Peruvian styled rotisserie chicken... it's all done really well. So well that people are surprised every time they meet the owners! lol. This is a grab and go place and it gets busy! But there is a little bit of seating in the back if you need to sit and eat there. The staff work really hard to make sure everyone gets their order in a good time. And they are all so nice. I really love their rotisserie chicken and it's paired well with their fries, salad, and even rice. Their potato salad is simply seasoned but realllyyy good; truly nothing over the top with their seasoning for it but somehow it really hits the spot when you eat it with the chicken. I also tried the grilled lemon chicken with the lo mein and loved that too! I didn't finish it all in one sitting so I had that for lunch the next day. Haha. The fried shrimp was also very good. Loved dipping it as well as the chicken, into their house green sauce. The green sauce is crack!!!!! You must get lots of it. Highly recommend visiting this neighborhood staple soon or to order it delivered to your place. :)

We made a reservation for 6:15 pm to take advantage of their happy hour and when we arrived, there was only two other people at the bar. However, by around 7:30 pm the restaurant was pretty full so it may still be best to make a reservation. We opted to do their happy hour special, which is a ceviche + main for $50. They also have half off all bottles of wine during HH, and our waiter helped us select a nice bottle of white to pair with the food. For the ceviche we got the catch of the day and tuna. Between the two, I preferred the tuna although I will note the portions on both were pretty small. I'm assuming that the portion is the same as if you ordered it ala carte, but if I had paid the full price for it I would have been disappointed in the size. For mains, we got the chicken ala brasa and arroz con mariscos. Both of these were really solid-- cooked well, and the portion felt significant. Of the two, I think it really depends on what you're craving for which one I would recommend. The chicken was definitely more hefty/juicy but the arroz was very flavorful. We also opted to get a slice of the key lime pie for dessert, which was really good! The meringue was torched and it was very zesty and not too sweet. The servers were all really nice and they also do inkind, so combining that with HH can really get you a nice discount. I think without the HH pricing I would have thought the food was good, but more of a special occasion than a regular spot to visit. So do yourself a favor and come to try the HH menu.
