Beef Pad Thai. Dumplings. Lunch at work.
    Tanya R.

"That was really good." These were the words of a co-worker that I treated to lunch from Sawasde today. It was his first time trying any type of Thai cuisine and he truly enjoyed his first shrimp Pad Thai experience. This was my first time trying food from this particular place. My beef pad Thai was very flavorful. Not the best I've ever had but still yummy. I also ordered a steamed dumpling appetizer made of chicken and shrimp that was a hit. All of the food tasted fresh and the restaurant's aroma wafts out onto the street in the best way. Sawasde is a super small, take- out only restaurant. The menu though, is really impressive for such a tiny establishment. I'll be going back to try more of what they have to offer.

Excited to try this place and it was delicious and made with love. You choose spicy levels on all dishes and they deliver spices so well. Their shrimps are also great 10/10. Wish my pad see ew had more veggies tho. But also, their tofu is amazing(the golden fry one). Dessert taro was an interesting try. The white is condense or coconut milk hmmm. They also gave us free ice cream!(Its a hot hot hot day)

Drunken Man Noodles w/ chicken ($12)

Pretty standard and affordable Thai takeout spot where you can't go wrong with the classic curry dishes or drunken noodles. It'll hit the spot every single time. I've ordered from here numerous times, but most recently got the Spicy Red Snapper ($18), Drunken Noodles w/ Chicken ($12), and Pumpkin Curry w/ Chicken ($12.50). Wanted to try something new and was very curious about the red snapper, which was pretty good! It was deep fried and covered in a familiar Thai sweet and sour chili sauce, sitting on a bed of veggies. Definitely worth a try, but a bit on the pricier side. The noodles that were used for the drunken noodles were so wonderfully wide. Looking back at the photo I took below, I am so impressed with how they kept, not breaking apart. Medium spice was great, but might even go for Spicy next time. The pumpkin curry was so homey, tasty yet light/subtle in flavor. Also, how often do you see pumpkin curry on the menu? We had some left over for the next day (but no rice) so I mixed it into some spaghetti. Deeeelish. One hiccup I'd experienced was on Thanksgiving Day -- I was surprised to see them listed on Grubhub, as most restaurants in the neighborhood was not open. I could've called to confirm, but I went ahead and ordered some food for lunch via the app anyway. The order was even confirmed, but my heart dropped when I swung by to pick up. The gates were down and it was indeed closed. I headed across the street to Foodtown to pick up some sushi instead, while trying to call the restaurant to no avail. About a half hour later, I received a missed call and text from Grubhub apologizing, as well as a text from the restaurant. Both guaranteed a full refund, which was a relief. Despite this little mishap, I'd still return and recommend.

This has become my new go-to Thai food takeout nearby. The portions are great and the food has never disappointed. The prices are reasonable as well. I've ordered from Yelp, picked up in store and no difference in food quality. Definitely get a Thai iced tea if you stop by- amazing balance of tea and milk. A hidden Thai gem for great food in a local Brooklyn area.

    Mango Sticky Rice

Now THAT is how you make mango sticky rice! This classic Thai dessert is one of my favorites, and I'm not ashamed to say that I've tried it at several Thai places in NYC. It's shocking how many places are doing it wrong. I've had some hilariously terrible versions that usually involve a soupy concoction with un-fresh fruit. Luckily Sawasde knows what's up! I was impressed with the way they packed it up (I got it as part of a delivery order). Beautifully sliced, fresh mango adjacent to sticky rice still warm inside plastic wrap, and a little container with coconut milk. It was super easy to assemble and it tasted AMAZING! Reminded me of the ones I had in Thailand. Admittedly, this is the only dish I've from Sawasde, but my bf has already gotten the drunken noodles twice and loves them. I'm looking forward to trying more on the menu, and getting more mango sticky rice!

Our group of 4 started with a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a few appetizers to share, namely: Som tum papaya salad and dumplings curry. For the main entree, my eyes caught the attention of clay pot mix-fried rice with shrimp, chicken, sweet sausage, and my partner chose shrimp pad thai. Nothing really stood out with the dishes; I found it to be a bit Americanized, having eaten in so many Thai restaurants around New York City. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here; our food came in timely fashion, and the customer service is good as well, but it's probably not your place if you are seeking a more authentic Thai-style cooking.

PLEASE get the mango stick rice cocktail omg it was gone in like 5 sips because it was so good. The tuna ceviche was so refreshing and the sauce had a little kick to it which I absolutely loved! It was like a sprinkle of Thai on a classic tuna ceviche. Note the taro chips are a little thicker than a typical chip! The pork jowl wasn't as crispy as I expected but it was still flavorful and the portion size was huge, considering how it was an appetizer. We got pineapple lychee crispy duck, crab fried rice, and kana crispy pork over rice as our entree. ALL WERE SO GOOD! The curry for the pineapple lychee crispy duck was so creamy and flavorful, with the duck portion being huge and being the perfect texture. I loved that it was crispy and didn't get soggy fast in the curry. The crab fried rice was top tier as there were SO MANY HUGE CRAB PIECES!! You can definitely tell that it had flavors of seafood/crab.. they did not skimp out! And the kana crispy pork over rice was huge portion as well, but note that it was a big strong/saltier than the other dishes. For dessert, the pandan coconut pudding custard was SO yummy. It was warm and so flavorful and creamy!! I fell in love with Brooklyn even more after coming here. Highly recommend!!

My visit to Ugly Baby many years ago is somewhere in the deep recesses of my memory, and while I…read moreremember it being enjoyable and spicy, it wasn't enough for me to make return trips. I feel differently about Hungry Thirsty. At this point I've been to countless Thai restaurants, and for the most part they've all been fantastic. Compared to all those fantastic meals the flavors here still stand out and I'm excited to read that they're expanding with additional locations. They have a phenomenal and lengthy beer selection, which is fun because it complements the spicy fried dishes quite well. The fried branzino and shrimp and squid in salted duck yolk were very tasty with white rice but the dish that lit up my taste buds was the Kai Jeow Pu- colossal crab omelette. The egg was deep fried in an aromatic oil and filled with fresh, large pieces of crab and served with a phenomenal zesty sauce. The place is tiny and no frills, and our server chafed at my partner for pronouncing a beer on their menu incorrectly, which just added to the experience. I loved it here!

Unfortunately, I have to admit I was pretty disappointed. Most of the dishes, especially the sauces, they were extremely salty! - Beef Tartare "Dine-In Exclusive" -- I'd skip this one. The beef was very dry, and it came with taro chips and greens but no sauce to tie everything together. Definitely not what I expected from a tartare. - Enoki Bloom -- Crispy, perfectly fried enoki mushrooms that I actually enjoyed. The only downside was that it was also very salty. The creamy green sauce on the side helped balance it out. - Crying Tiger -- Another skip for me. The steak was dry, tough and chewy, and the meat itself was pretty bland. The sauce had plenty of flavor, but again, it was way too salty. - Pork Jowl -- Probably my favorite dish of the meal. It was perfectly grilled, tender and flavorful. I'd skip the sauce though since the pork was already delicious on its own. - Crab Curry -- Unfortunately, another very salty dish. I honestly don't know how it got this salty. I was expecting more of the spicy or slightly sweet flavors you normally get from a Thai curry, but the salt completely took over. Very disappointing!!! - Thai Iced Tea -- This was actually really good. Creamy, rich and not overly sweet. The menu changes seasonally, so unfortunately, some of the dishes I had seen online were no longer available when I went. I was really looking forward to trying Tong, especially since it's so close by, but overall the meal just didn't do it for me. I probably wouldn't come back or recommend it based on this experience.
