My favorite Thai in the area. I used to order from Thai Farm Kitchen and when they closed, I tried Sawasde. I couldn't be more impressed! I haven't been there in person but delivery is amazing: super fast, friendly, and arrives piping hot. My faves so far: Curry Puffs: These are veggie. I like when they have chicken, but still solid. 4/5 Scarlet Curry: I order spicy with vegetables and tofu, nice heat and assortment of veggies. Comes with rice. 5/5 Pad Se Ew Noodles: I order spicy with mock duck. These are amazing and I'm convinced my dog thinks the duck is real from the smell. 5/5 Tom Kha Soup: I order this with shrimp and it is rich and soothing. 5/5 Sweet Coconut Sticky Rice and Mango: Sure, I've had better in Thailand but this is pretty amazing considering where we are. 4/5 Thai Iced Coffee: 4/5 Skip the pineapple juice (skinny can). For the longest time I didn't go here because I thought they were still run by the old management. Though one day I was really craving for Thai and decided to just order a dish and call it a day. To my surprised, it was new management and the squid drunken noodle that I ordered was delicious. The squid tasted fresh and cook just right where it didn't taste like rubber bands. The foodies were chewy and felt like a mouthful at every bite. Overall I was very pleased by this dish and have been coming back since. The only thing I did wish this restaurant would have had are fried squid. I asked if they would bring that menu back but the owner said no. As for the restaurant, it's more of a take out joint. They only have one table with two seats and three/four stools against the window. We ordered delivery and I loved everything I tried: tom yum soup with chicken, beef pad Thai, thai ice tea and tamarind juice. All delicious. "That was really good." These were the words of a co-worker that I treated to lunch from Sawasde today. It was his first time trying any type of Thai cuisine and he truly enjoyed his first shrimp Pad Thai experience. This was my first time trying food from this particular place. My beef pad Thai was very flavorful. Not the best I've ever had but still yummy. I also ordered a steamed dumpling appetizer made of chicken and shrimp that was a hit. All of the food tasted fresh and the restaurant's aroma wafts out onto the street in the best way. Sawasde is a super small, take- out only restaurant. The menu though, is really impressive for such a tiny establishment. I'll be going back to try more of what they have to offer. read more

Such a solid place to grab lunch. The service is super quick and the staff is really friendly. This place is definitely more of a grab and go place. I appreciate the prices and how they can change how spicy the food is. I am a big fan of the drunken noodles which are super chewy, flavorful and the perfect amount of spice. I order Pad Gra Prow and they only put green beans in it for the last few months. It's supposed to come with broccoli and carrot. Pretty standard and affordable Thai takeout spot where you can't go wrong with the classic curry dishes or drunken noodles. It'll hit the spot every single time. I've ordered from here numerous times, but most recently got the Spicy Red Snapper ($18), Drunken Noodles w/ Chicken ($12), and Pumpkin Curry w/ Chicken ($12.50). Wanted to try something new and was very curious about the red snapper, which was pretty good! It was deep fried and covered in a familiar Thai sweet and sour chili sauce, sitting on a bed of veggies. Definitely worth a try, but a bit on the pricier side. The noodles that were used for the drunken noodles were so wonderfully wide. Looking back at the photo I took below, I am so impressed with how they kept, not breaking apart. Medium spice was great, but might even go for Spicy next time. The pumpkin curry was so homey, tasty yet light/subtle in flavor. Also, how often do you see pumpkin curry on the menu? We had some left over for the next day (but no rice) so I mixed it into some spaghetti. Deeeelish. One hiccup I'd experienced was on Thanksgiving Day -- I was surprised to see them listed on Grubhub, as most restaurants in the neighborhood was not open. I could've called to confirm, but I went ahead and ordered some food for lunch via the app anyway. The order was even confirmed, but my heart dropped when I swung by to pick up. The gates were down and it was indeed closed. I headed across the street to Foodtown to pick up some sushi instead, while trying to call the restaurant to no avail. About a half hour later, I received a missed call and text from Grubhub apologizing, as well as a text from the restaurant. Both guaranteed a full refund, which was a relief. Now THAT is how you make mango sticky rice! This classic Thai dessert is one of my favorites, and I'm not ashamed to say that I've tried it at several Thai places in NYC. It's shocking how many places are doing it wrong. I've had some hilariously terrible versions that usually involve a soupy concoction with un-fresh fruit. Luckily Sawasde knows what's up! I was impressed with the way they packed it up (I got it as part of a delivery order). Beautifully sliced, fresh mango adjacent to sticky rice still warm inside plastic wrap, and a little container with coconut milk. It was super easy to assemble and it tasted AMAZING! Reminded me of the ones I had in Thailand. Admittedly, this is the only dish I've from Sawasde, but my bf has already gotten the drunken noodles twice and loves them. I like this place. I ordered the spicy basil fried rice with shrimp, the pineapple fried rice with the duck and the Thai dumplings. I enjoyed everything. The duck was really tender and juicy and the shrimp tasted fresh and was clean. Both dishes came very spicy as requested and were very flavorful. The Thai dumplings came with 4 small dumplings. I wish there were at least 5 considering it's almost 8 bucks. Otherwise, this place offers decent portions, reasonably priced food and quick delivery. I used to live a few blocks from this place so it was convenient to get food there. First all of the people taking orders at the cash register were always so nice and friendly! Which I appreciate a lot, service with a smile! Usually the food that I ordered was very tasty and very good. My favorite was the pineapple curry. And I loved the pad thai, it was very tasty and a pretty big portion of it. The flavor is very authentic and not too heavy. One thing that I did not like however was that a few time when I ordered tofu, the tofu was actually a little bit off, so they need to double check that before they put it into food, this was really the only thing that was ever not good from my ordering experience, so if the owner reads this review just make sure to check the tofu before you put it into the food cause that happened more than once and then I just got the vegetables instead. But aside from that everything was awesome. The rice was good, the peanut sauce was good.. I pretty much ordered the same thing every time and it was delicious. I still give it 5 starts cause the food was great, just need to fix that tofu mishap! read more

Ordered delivery here last night and it the food was average. It did not taste super authentic and it was pricey for appetizers. We ordered the following -boat noodles- the soup was pretty tasty. The noodles were not the correct kind. They gave me something similar to pho noodles but the boat noodles I had in Thailand were much softer and more like a thinner pad see ew noodle. The beef was also very over cooked so it was dry and hard to chew. -pad Thai with beef-okay -pad see ew with beef-okay more like Chinese chow how fun -tomyum soup-taste like tomato soup -curry puff-not the best I've had. This is my go-to Thai place in the nabe. They are always very polite & never get the food wrong. The woman who is usually at the counter has even given me free drinks sometimes for no apparent reason other than that she knows I go there regularly. The Thai place on Ft. Hamilton that ended up shutting down could have taken some lessons from this place. My fav is the Pad See Ew vegetable and tofu. My only complaint is that the place is so good I spend way too much $$ on it. Update: I guess I jinxed myself. There are no Thai restaurants in my area, so I took a chance and ordered delivery via GrubHub and was pleasantly surprised. My go to's when craving Thai food are pad see ew and mango sticky rice, which is exactly what I ordered. Instead of my usual chicken, I ordered the vegetable pad see eu, forgetting that I'm not a fan of tofu. However, this is not the restaurants fault, that is mine and will order chicken next time. Flavors and sauce were excellent and noodles were cooked perfectly. The star of the show was the mango sticky rice which I was seriously craving. I love the way they packaged everything, the rice being packaged separately and the coconut milk in a little cup to pour over everything. The mangoes were perfectly ripe, sweet and delicious, making for a wonderfully unique and flavorful dessert. The woman who answers the phone/owner? is extremely helpful and friendly. My food is over spiced with pepper, I can't really eat spicy food, I had to stop eating. There's too much onions and less ingredients than before. Secondly the delivery guy gave me the attitude when I told him come upstairs.. After all I'm not sure why I have to pay tip?! Right?! A great Thai place that is really convenient for its location. It has a really solid menu and some food as well. Sawasde is located on McDonald near 4 important places: the G/F station, the high school, the grocery and the laundromat/dry-clean places. This makes Sawasde only a few steps away from doing chores in this part of the neighborhood. I personally come here a lot when I do laundry as eating here takes around 20-25 minutes which is just enough time to fit a wash or a dry nearby. Its convience makes it one of my favorite places in the area to go to. The food here is pretty good also. A few years ago there was another Thai place here that I also liked but I felt the food was pretty greasy. The quality at Sawasde I feel is a lot better. They offer a good variety of simple rice and noodle dishes and you can choose various meats to add to it. Whether you get a pricey meat or not will determine if the meal is a good or expensive price here. The seating here is honestly pretty bad but it strangely works. You have one wooden table here and a counter top. The counter top feels cramped and though its near a window there is nothing really to see. The wooden table only can fit one person as well and is the objectively better option. You would think that means this place is nightmare to sit at but in my experience this is not the case. Almost no one comes here to sit down and eat which leaves the table open to enjoy (especially during the day.) It all works out. Overall Sawasde is a great convenient place. If you want to take a risk and sit here I would suggest coming at unpopular times. read more

Great cheap Thai food, room for 5 people to sit and eat, great for take out or delivery. They are technically open until 11pm according to Google and Yelp, but the sign on the door now says they close at 10:30pm Sunday - Thursday. If you get there half an hour before closing, they may already be taking last orders, and you'll be lucky to be seated within an hour of closing. But at least they're open 7 days a week! Spicy fresh food, no frills. Salads are a bit disappointing. Great drink selection (lychee juice!), and they're flexible about vegetarian options. If you ask, they can make some dishes (pad thai) without fish sauce. read more

The noodles could honestly be more flavorful, especially given how good the fried rice and curries are. Our go-to Thai spot. Love the people here. Try to do pickup since it's close by, but when we cave and do delivery it's always pretty fast. We usually get the drunken noodles and spring rolls. They always accurately accommodate our "no onions scallions or bamboo" request. Get the mild. We usually like spice but the medium is usually too spicy. 1/5 times there isn't quite enough sauce (might be because of the "mild") but this doesn't stop us for reordering. Sawasde is my new favorite restaurant in the neighborhood and quite possibly the cleanest restaurant in NYC. While we have an unusually high proportion of Thai restaurants in Kensington, they are a welcome addition. Food: After eating here about ten times, I usually lean more towards the sautéed meat dishes (Pad Kra Prow, Gai Yang), which I think are the best on the menu. The curry is also good. Their pad thai is on the sweeter/saucier side, which I hope they change in the future. Service: Friendly. I think it is family-owned. Location: Pretty convenient if you want to grab something on the way home from work. Right off Albemarle and McDonald by the F/G train. Seating/Ambiance: There isn't much seating on the inside-- just four bar stools and a small two person table in the corner. It's doable for a quick bite.
