Tong has been on my list for quite some time. It's close to my neighborhood and within walking distance, so I was really excited to finally give it a try! Unfortunately, I have to admit I was pretty disappointed. Most of the dishes, especially the sauces, they were extremely salty! - Beef Tartare "Dine-In Exclusive" -- I'd skip this one. The beef was very dry, and it came with taro chips and greens but no sauce to tie everything together. Definitely not what I expected from a tartare. - Enoki Bloom -- Crispy, perfectly fried enoki mushrooms that I actually enjoyed. The only downside was that it was also very salty. The creamy green sauce on the side helped balance it out. - Crying Tiger -- Another skip for me. The steak was dry, tough and chewy, and the meat itself was pretty bland. The sauce had plenty of flavor, but again, it was way too salty. - Pork Jowl -- Probably my favorite dish of the meal. It was perfectly grilled, tender and flavorful. I'd skip the sauce though since the pork was already delicious on its own. - Crab Curry -- Unfortunately, another very salty dish. I honestly don't know how it got this salty. I was expecting more of the spicy or slightly sweet flavors you normally get from a Thai curry, but the salt completely took over. Very disappointing!!! - Thai Iced Tea -- This was actually really good. Creamy, rich and not overly sweet. The menu changes seasonally, so unfortunately, some of the dishes I had seen online were no longer available when I went. I was really looking forward to trying Tong, especially since it's so close by, but overall the meal just didn't do it for me. loved this place! got there a bit late when the restaurant was nearing close and still greeted with such warmth and hospitality. we ordered the curry, papaya salad, and the fried branzino. all of it was sooo good! pro tip dip the branzino in the curry. everything was so flavorful. i also indulged in a thai tea which was served with whole milk (which i usually don't drink) but it was worth it. and i love spice so nothing against the spiciness of the dish but the thai tea definitely complimented the kick very well. 10 out of 10. id be back again for sure. read more

I tend to consider everything in Bushwick out of the way but Tong is definitely a standout worth the trek. It's got a nice ambiance that straddles the date-night and casual dining vibe. You won't look out of place a little dressy but you can also just saddle up to the bar for a quick bite. And quick the service is! We ordered the tapas-like plates and they not only came out super fast but they were all mad delicious. The pork jowl had a lovely tamarind sauce, the Yum Naem crispy rice was fiery in the best way, the veg dumpling was outstanding and the truffle spring rolls were sufficiently tuffley. So filling for two, left feeling totally satiated. Also ordered the Jolean gin cocktail which was delicate and deeeeelicious. Our party of four was very impressed by the food! The Som Tum Crab was acidic and tingling spicy. The Pork Rib was on the drier side for me, but everyone else enjoyed it. We also shared the Goong Garee, Massaman Brisket, and Pad Mhee Korat, all of which were on the sweeter side and very flavorful. The Pad Mhee Korat was hands down the best Thai noodles any of us had ever had. Service was a tad lacking as we had to flag down waiters to clear our plates and give us new ones. Recommend: - Crispy duck - Khao soi: I love this dish, and I think they do khao soi better than some other Brooklyn Thai restaurants. A generously sized chicken drumstick, a good sphere of fried egg noodles on top, and delicious curry to coat your spoon with - Taro fritter: crunchy on outside, soft on inside, flavorful with the dipping sauce Bigger entree dishes (kub khao) can comfortably feed 2 people and will average in the mid-$20s range. My big bro is the only friend I have who can eat as much as me. Whenever we get together the amount of food we consume is biblical. We have been trying to expand our search for good restaurants outside of our normal stomping grounds, and decided on Tong, as it has been on the Michelin guide list 4 years in a row. 4-peat is crazy. Although, what does the Michelin man really know about food? We hopped off the L-Train in Bushwick and made the short walk to Tong, through brightly painted warehouses that you can't tell if they are occupied or empty. Bushwick is so unique. We arrived ready to EAT. We sat down and deliberated over the menu for longer than I care to admit, and decided on the following: Beef tartare, Yum Naem, Oysters, Beef Pad See Ew, Crab Curry, Chicken Green Curry, Massaman Brisket, Fried Branzino, and the Fillet Branzino. A laughable amount of food. I don't know why we thought we could eat all that. When you sit down, the servers first question is "are you guys okay with spicy food?" Big bro confidently nodded his head with a look of slight disrespect on his face as if to say "do you know who I am?!" Next thing I know he's running to the bathroom to go splash some water on his face after 1 bite of the crab curry. Food can be SPICY in here so if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. I normally only highlight one dish to try and keep these reviews short, but this food was sensational, so imma highlight a few. Our favorites were the Fried Branzino, Massaman Brisket, and the Pad See Ew. The Fried Branzino is really what will bring me back here. It will keep me up at night thinking about how good this was. You get the entire fish seasoned with turmeric, black pepper, fried garlic, and lemongrass. It was the perfect dish. The owner, Pat, came over to our table to talk to us for a bit. She was such a sweetheart, and so passionate. She also told us that they order the Pad See Ew noodles fresh every single morning from this market close by. After our favorite Thai restaurant in Clinton Hill recently closed, we started searching for a place that could deliver a great crab fried rice dish. We found several recommendations on Reddit for spots in Manhattan, but they didn't offer delivery to our area. Fortunately, Tong came up a few times in the threads, and we were lucky that Uber Eats would deliver from Bushwick to our place, and we are so glad they did! The crab fried rice was definitely one of the best we've had in all of NYC. It was packed with fresh crab, and the accompanying sauce took it to the next level. We also ordered the pad see ew with beef, which was very good as well. You can tell from the menu that this restaurant aims for an authentic Thai experience rather than an Americanized version. It was a Friday night in Queens, and I wanted to treat my own queen to a special date over Thai. I landed on Tong because I mistakenly believed I had unfinished business with their menu after my last visit. Well, I learned that some things are best left unfinished. What was most frustrating about this meal is that none of the bites were outright bad, but the elements were unbalanced. The pork spare ribs were tasty, but too dry; the pad khee morad was flavorful, but sweet as barbecue sauce; and the sausage fried rice was good, but cold and salty. Thai food is revered for its balanced and contrasting flavors, but Tong has damaged that reverence. Unfortunately, their service does not help their case. The host did not greet us, and our server was as cold and salty as the fried rice. Granted it was a Friday and she had other tables, she only spoke maybe 10 words to us--but it wasn't even the busyness of the establishment causing her distance as she had helpers running food and drinks. She genuinely did not care about our experience. Overall, the food's not cheap, the portions are fair, but the food was just not that good. I'm sorry to say, but Tong meets 1/3 of my criteria; thus, I cannot recommend it. You won't feel ripped off, but you'll probably be disappointed. read more

Beware that the ribs are *very* spicy and I would recommend taking all of their warnings about spice seriously lol. There's a good amount of seating so perfect for a date or group outing. Excellent flavors! The dishes we ordered all had a fresh balance of sour, sweet, heat, and salty - a really great overall experience. The whiskey based espresso cocktail was super refreshing and light. The ambiance, food, service were A1! Definitely for the Bushwick millennial scene. In a very vibey industrial building. Everything I touched was delicious. The Som Tum Thai salad is shockingly spicy so beware. The Gai Tod was amazing- beautifully fried chicken and still moist in the inside. The main event was the shrimp fried rice! It honestly has to be top 5 ranked rices in NYC. Its not overly oily, it has great bite and seasoned well.
