TL;DR: Great Thai spot in Bushwick area. Great for both large parties or smaller groups. Came in for an early birthday dinner with a group of 6 on a Saturday and were seated immediately. We ordered: - Taro fritters - Pork jowl - Massaman brisket - Crispy duck - Gang Pu (crab meat curry) - Beef pad see ew - Khao soi - Mango sticky rice All were really solid! I would say standout dishes for the pork jowl and mango sticky rice. I'm also always a sucker for pad see ew. If I were to come again with a smaller group I'd definitely get the pork jowl without a doubt. At any rate, good casual spot. Big space. It's not exactly fine dining, but the space is decorated well and the wait stuff was friendly and attentive. Would recommend!
I tend to consider everything in Bushwick out of the way but Tong is definitely a standout worth the trek. It's got a nice ambiance that straddles the date-night and casual dining vibe. You won't look out of place a little dressy but you can also just saddle up to the bar for a quick bite. And quick the service is! We ordered the tapas-like plates and they not only came out super fast but they were all mad delicious. The pork jowl had a lovely tamarind sauce, the Yum Naem crispy rice was fiery in the best way, the veg dumpling was outstanding and the truffle spring rolls were sufficiently tuffley. So filling for two, left feeling totally satiated. Also ordered the Jolean gin cocktail which was delicate and deeeeelicious. Would definitely come back and explore more of the menu the next time life drags me over here.
Delicious Thai food, and highly recommend eating family style. Our favorites were the smaller dishes/appetizers. The pork jowl and the grilled octopus was great! We also loved the crab fried rice, although I'd say it's similar to what you can get at other Thai restaurants (reminded me of Pranakhon's). The interior has a nice minimalistic design and custom furniture for the space accompanied with dim lighting; it's optimal for a date night.
Really good Thai food that serves flavors that are different from your usual Thai restaurant in New York. Recommend: - Crispy duck - Khao soi: I love this dish, and I think they do khao soi better than some other Brooklyn Thai restaurants. A generously sized chicken drumstick, a good sphere of fried egg noodles on top, and delicious curry to coat your spoon with - Taro fritter: crunchy on outside, soft on inside, flavorful with the dipping sauce Bigger entree dishes (kub khao) can comfortably feed 2 people and will average in the mid-$20s range. We didn't have reservations but were able to get bar seating right away. They have a $45 menu for Restaurant Week in July that I might consider trying
Made a same-day dinner reservation for a Friday and had a great meal here. The khao soi was by far my favorite dish - the pickles!!! - and is now on my list of top khao soi in NYC. Also really liked the Yum naem (crispy rice)- just note it is SPICY. Thai iced tea and veg dumpling also worth getting. Only skip was the oysters. Will be back for fish and more khao soi!!
My big bro is the only friend I have who can eat as much as me. Whenever we get together the amount of food we consume is biblical. We have been trying to expand our search for good restaurants outside of our normal stomping grounds, and decided on Tong, as it has been on the Michelin guide list 4 years in a row. 4-peat is crazy. Although, what does the Michelin man really know about food? We hopped off the L-Train in Bushwick and made the short walk to Tong, through brightly painted warehouses that you can't tell if they are occupied or empty. Bushwick is so unique. We arrived ready to EAT. We sat down and deliberated over the menu for longer than I care to admit, and decided on the following: Beef tartare, Yum Naem, Oysters, Beef Pad See Ew, Crab Curry, Chicken Green Curry, Massaman Brisket, Fried Branzino, and the Fillet Branzino. A laughable amount of food. I don't know why we thought we could eat all that. When you sit down, the servers first question is "are you guys okay with spicy food?" Big bro confidently nodded his head with a look of slight disrespect on his face as if to say "do you know who I am?!" Next thing I know he's running to the bathroom to go splash some water on his face after 1 bite of the crab curry. Food can be SPICY in here so if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. I normally only highlight one dish to try and keep these reviews short, but this food was sensational, so imma highlight a few. Our favorites were the Fried Branzino, Massaman Brisket, and the Pad See Ew. The Fried Branzino is really what will bring me back here. It will keep me up at night thinking about how good this was. You get the entire fish seasoned with turmeric, black pepper, fried garlic, and lemongrass. It was the perfect dish. The owner, Pat, came over to our table to talk to us for a bit. She was such a sweetheart, and so passionate. She also told us that they order the Pad See Ew noodles fresh every single morning from this market close by. Running a restaurant must be so hard, so shout out to Pat. We pride ourselves on never taking leftovers, but we took a huge L here. We walked out of here like a couple of DORKS with bags of food. Holy bleep. NOTE TO SELF: GEM RESTAURANT!!! Possibly the best Thai food I've ever had In order of what I liked: Khao soi: savory and sweet with a whole piece of chicken! SO GOOD! Kept mixing in white rice with the sauce. MY FAVE Crispy Duck: yum, comes with nice sauce Crab fried rice: it's crab fried rice, you know what it tastes like, it's always good. Large crab chunks Pork jowl: was good (reminded me of the Korean boiled pork dish bosam in the meat but the flavors were different, more fish sauce! Delish) Massaman brisket: VERY peanuty! Creamy and thick! Good portions. This all together fed 7 people. It was all so delicious.
I can see exactly why this place has been on the Michelin guide for the past five years. It's on the pricier side when it comes to the Thai food, but so worth your coins . We didn't get an entree and stick to order a few apps The truffles spring rolls were stuck with mushroom and glass noodles. You can't really taste the truffle in the spring roll itself, but the sauce is full of it. And so delicious. We also asked on sweet chili sauce on the side and it was delicious Some of the best octopus I've had perfectly cooked . Perfect texture. Spicy but delicious
Thai food continues to wow me in the city. Each dish was incredible, but I particularly enjoyed the pork jowl. The drinks were also lovely and pretty strong. One dish never came, but we over ordered and the staff took the item off of the bill. I would recommend Tong for dinner before any night life in the area!
We came as a group of 7 to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was a great dinner! I think we got 7 or 8 dishes total but the pork jowl and beef pad see ew were my favorite. The fish was also a close second! Only giving this a four and not five because of the stiff competition for thai food in nyc (felt like the khao soi i had at soothr was better and sappe is probably still my top for thai food). Service was really nice though and they gave us mango sticky rice for our friend's bday!
Get the truffle spring rolls! Get the truffle spring rolls! Omg - so good. Everything we had here was amazing and very unique. The taro fritter has bits of sweet potato and black beans in it giving it multiple yummy textures. The spring rolls were vegetarian, but the mushrooms made it taste like meat and the truffle flavor was divine. The duck was flavorful and juicy. Every single thing was not only delicious, but amazing. I cannot wait to come back here.
My friends and I decided to come here in a group of 8 before going out in Bushwick and WOW was I amazed. Thai food in nyc has not disappointed me but I feel like this is truly up there. We shared many apps like the steak tartare, the taro fritters and also shared mains such as the beef pad see ew, khao soi, and the fish. What actually impressed me the most were the drinks though. My friends and I ordered different cocktails and you could honestly order any of them and you'll be impressed. The wait staff was super nice and they even gave my friend a mango sticky rice for his birthday! Definitely coming back
this place is good!! super impressed by the yum mung kud and kang tai pla. ive rarely had mangosteen even by itself but it was intensely flavorful paired with the fishy pla ra and cut with some needed acidity and spice. the fisherman curry was certainly 'fiery hot'. the pumpkin, bamboo shoot, cashews, were something ive never had in curry but were delicious and picked up the spice well. the fish was grilled beautifully and the largest branzino fillet ive seen. somehow the dish still felt piping hot in temperature by the time we finished eating but that was probably just how spicy it was. even though it was a super spicy evening - sweat beaded my nose and i almost asked the bartender for milk - the spice felt right for the dishes and i couldnt get enough despite the pain. still thinking about the crazy flavor combos of these dishes. read more

As a starter we tried one of their salads but requested it mild. We asked the waitress if it could be made without shrimp since I had a shrimp allergy. She really struggled to understand what we were asking and did not grasp the significance of a shrimp allergy. The item stated shrimp paste. We ended needing to call another waiter over who fully understood what we were asking. Overall that dish was a bit too fishy for our liking. The fried pork rib was very good and fresh. The fried chicken thighs as you can see from the picture are in fact not thighs. Of the four pieces one is a thigh and three are drumsticks. We ended up discussing this with the waitress who shared that the menu states dark meat, and it would be two drumsticks and two thighs. This was incorrect, the menu states chicken thighs only and she offered to take it off the bill once she realized. Neither of us are a fan of drumsticks. The best dish of the night was the crab fried rice. This was by far some of the best crab fried rice I've ever had and I enjoyed the spicy fish sauce that it came with. Overall, after the first interaction we were never approached again to see how we were enjoying our meals or if we wanted to order anything else. The first waitress actively avoided us. The other waitresses did come to clear our plates. Overall the food was hit or miss, but the customer service was the real flaw. read more

Wow. Flavor explosion in my mouth. The Michelin nod definitely well deserved because the spice, pairings and creativity is rarely seen. First thing first- must love spice. I came for Restaurant Week & ordered the Yum Lumyai (longan fruit salad), Thai-Style Chicken Biryani, & mango sticky rice. The salad was sweet, spicy and definitely petite. A mix between lychee & rambutan if you e never had longan before. The chicken biryani was a great portion. Loved the tumeric seasoned rice. The mango sticky rice was my least favorite but still not bad. Star player was the mocha cocktail & the shrimp curry entree was delicious as well. The glass shrimp appetizers were surprisingly juicy despite the small size & basil gelato wasn't too bad (just tiny). Service was good, but I did think the waitress could've visited a tiny bit more but the dark look with decent lighting really helped us to focus on the interesting food. read more

The pork jowl and shrimp curry were amazing. I would get both of them again. The branzino curry was not my favorite. It was more like soup and felt like a mish mash of random things with a very strong herbal taste. I will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu read more

EVERYTHING 10/10!! Food was outstanding, drinks were SO good, and I have no idea how the service was so fast with how packed the place was but it was amazing. Seating is close and very intimate, there's a separate dining room in the back. The bar is also a great spot to enjoy yourself especially if you're alone. I had my first experience trying oysters last night and idek how I'm gunna try oysters anywhere else, they set the bar so high! I had the Kang Tai Pla which was an incredible curry dish. The branzino was grilled perfectly, first time trying chopped bamboo and I'm honestly not mad at it...order at your own risk because it is SPICY AF! I mean the kind of spicy that can knock the flu out & put you to sleep. My date had the crispy duck, when I say you'll never want a crispy duck dish from anywhere else...my mind was blown from one bite. Absolutely perfect. The Relic of The Sun drink was my favorite (also spicy) but all of the drinks are really good. I also got the Tom Yum Soup to go and it's emotionally delicious like omg. They earned every Michelin achievement they got! read more

Really great Thai spot in the neighborhood with street parking out front. The decor is very rustic and the restaurant is dimly lit. It's good for small and large groups. The staff here is very friendly and attentive. They do tell you that everyone has 1.5 hours to done. The food here is very flavorful and spicier than you think! Tong is a unique space in Bushwick. We visited on a Sat at 5:30. Parking wasn't as difficult as expected. We found something right near the houses on the next block. It was a gorgeous day so we expected the place to be packed but that wasn't the case at all. They have 2 spaces with a wall in between. One is a more rustic covered outdoor area while the other is a smaller, more intimate traditional space. For drinks we had Mocktails because medically I wasn't allowed to have alcohol so my partner was being supportive. I had the Dok Tong- Mixed berry, rose water, lime, ginger beer. Bae had the Won Tong- Lychee, butterfly pea, orange blossom, tonic. For starters we had the vegetable dumplings (4). We also had the Gai Tod which is a crunchy fried chicken. They sent out about four pieces. I tried the leg and it was actually quite flavorful and tasty. Things were going well until they weren't . Prior to choosing the restaurant I previewed the menu and chose the location with confidence that both of us would find plenty to eat. He has severe allergies to shrimp (my fave) and I have walnut and pecans allergies. One might ask so why did we come to a Thai restaurant? Well, because it's one of our favorites. What we didn't foresee was that on the day of the visit, the establishment would alert us that their menu has extensively changed. WTF? Why would they think that's something they should highlight on the website? It was def a case of "catfishing" the food version. They weren't even apologetic. Needless to say after the two appetizers, we found ourselves backed against a very short menu and even shorter list of things we could enjoy so we paid the tab and left . Dumplings $12 Gai Tod $12 Drinks $10 ( each) Overall- Largely disappointing. 3/10 read more

I came here for a special event with Green Tile to sample their menu here and also play mahjong. The courses were amazing! I couldn't pronounce some of the dishes, but my favorite was probably the pork jowl. The pork was grilled and so tender and juicy! The dipping sauce was also good. They had some very spicy appetizers with what I believe was either jellyfish or tripe. I definitely needed to drink Thai Iced tea for that one. I wasn't too crazy about the taro fritters, which were kind of hard. Almost like eating mini bricks. The massaman brisket was good, and the curry was excellent for putting on rice. I think it was sweet with coconut milk. We decided we needed some fiber, so we also got some stir fried vegetables. For dessert, the mango sticky rice was perfectly ripe and had so much condensed milk. Out of this world! read more
I have nothing but good things to say about Tong. The 6 of us made a trip to NYC and were visiting some friends in Brooklyn, where one of them mentioned this spot to try. We all love Thai food, so it was a no brainer. We all started with some drinks. Most of us got the relic from the sun drink. Which is almost like a spicy sweet margarita. It was such a well-balanced drink, that a few of us actually got it twice while being there. My fiancé got the ticket to the moon drink, which is a gin based drink (she loves gin). She said it was great! It wasn't too powerful and also had a nice balance. I got the relic from the sun drink too, but I also got the madness. Madness is a mezcal based drink, but it didn't have too much of that smoky taste that you would expect. It was smokey a little bit, but balanced with the sweetness of the pineapple and lemon. All the drinks were very well balanced, and nothing was difficult to drink at all. Highly recommend any of these house cocktails! Moving onto the food. Me and my fiancé shared dinner, so we got one appetizer and one entree to share. We got the Gai Tod to start. Gai Tod is essentially a Thai fried chicken. Ours tasted so good. It was hot and crunchy and came with a nice sweet chili sauce. The portion size was pretty big too. We couldn't finish the appetizer at all, so we ended up sharing with some of the others in our group. For our main course, we shared the Drunken Noodle with Chicken. It was SO GOOD. I am honestly wishing I had some now to eat as I'm writing this. It was so flavorful and had a decent amount of chicken in there. We both killed the main course pretty quickly. Highly recommend both of these dishes!! Some of the others in our party got the crab fried rice and green curry. Both said that these dishes were pretty good too. Honestly, all the food was so good. There have many options to choose from, so you're bound to find something you will enjoy. The ambience of Tong is very nice. It's kind of like an industrial meets stylish-chic. It's a low-lighting type of place so it oozes a romantic type of feel too. We didn't drive here, we walked, so I'm not too sure about parking, but it is a NY restaurant...most places don't have parking anyways. The pricing of Tong is not too high, but it's not cheap either. It falls somewhere right in the middle. Tong was a great restaurant to eat dinner at, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. When I find myself back in Brooklyn, I'll definitely come back. Excellent experience! read more

Trendy Thai restaurant with excellent service and some interesting dishes. While they have many of the usual Thai classics, the menu invites you to explore beyond the green curry and pad see ew. We tried the beef tongue for the first time, which had incredible flavor although it definitely had a tougher texture than usual beef cuts. The khao soi noodle dish is a mix of soft soup noodles and crunchy fried noodles in a curry-like soup that was bursting with flavor and very filling. The servers and bartenders are very attentive and helpful with describing the various menu items. Innovative cocktail list, as well as Thai iced teas and coffees. The prices are fairly reasonable for the portion sizes, especially considering it has been featured in the Michelin guide. read more

Service and food quality are top tier. This was my second time going to Tong for Sunday Brunch after coming across this place the weekend before. Tony was so great and patient with us as we ordered so many dishes right before they anticipated closing their lunch service. We were in A MOOD TO EAT! And we enjoyed their bottomless mimosa special. They played a lot of modern music including Neo Soul and sultry rnb, which I absolutely love for the calm and relaxed vibe. We ordered a lot for two people and everything was immaculate, fresh, and well balanced. The flavors reminded me of the authentic, homemade balance I grew up with, but with such elevated execution of traditional classics I haven't experienced before. The massaman brisket curry was so good. The brisket wasn't melt-like tender, but it did fall apart very nicely. The classic punch of nuttiness goes well with the brisket potato curry. The vegetable and mushroom stir fry was such a perfect dish to accompany every other dish. I believe it's an entree but we ordered it as a side. The vegetable dumpling in the blue casing had a bolder coconut flavor than I expected, which I enjoyed. Truffle Spring rolls are a MUST-HAVE. And oh! The crab and pork encased in fried tofu skin is so good and an absolute favorite of mine. The crab chunk was generous and enormous! Crab Fried Rice is a no brainer if you like crab. It comes with a spicy lime, fish sauce. The pork skewer was deliciously tender and comes from their brunch menu. Not pictured: Their curry chicken noodle is also AMAZING (not too sweet, not too much coconut milk, and not too spicy although I love spice anyway). AMBIANCE: The ambiance is serene, complemented by pleasant lighting, gold utensils, and simple yet classy details. The atmosphere exudes an industrial vibe, and the dress code is Manhattan Chic or Business Casual. FOOD: I'll undoubtedly return here. The food surpassed expectations! The Beef Brisket, paired with sweet and spicy potatoes, was a delightful blend of flavors. The brisket was perfectly tender. The drinks pack a punch, and the overall food experience is rich in flavor. The Oysters showcased exciting flavor palettes. The menu, extensive and featuring unique Thai dishes, impressed me. Everything had a nice level of spice. The laminated, clear, and clean menu added to the positive experience. SERVICE: Our waitress was courteous, attentive without being intrusive, and maintained a clean appearance with gloves. She took the time to explain the menu thoroughly and proactively informed us about any sold-out items. Communication was clear and easy to understand. CLEANLINESS: Utensils and glasses were spotless, although I didn't visit the restroom to comment on its cleanliness. NOISE: Minimal. Tables are generously spaced apart. You can hold a conversation here. There is no background music which is great! TIP: Take advantage of the Mon-Thurs happy hour, and be mindful of the 90-minute limit per table on busy nights. Place is pricey for drinks with $18 cocktails, and normal entrée prices $25-$30 Avg. The Crowd is very diverse. read more

Amazing food and service! I got the thai iced coffee and beef pad see ew. Both are excellent and I highly recommend. The coffee tasted great, not too sweet or bitter. My sister and her bf first introduced me and my other sister to Tong and it is still honestly one of the best places I've ever eaten! We came here the other night for just a quick snack and got some oysters, pork jowl and mangosteen salad this time but everything I've had has been fantastic! Came here with a large group for a friends birthday dinner. The ambiance was cute. But they could not sit us together even though we made reservation ahead of time. We only knew when we got there we will be sitting apart from each other. On top of waiting for them to prep our table for our group. The food was decent. But nothing was special about it. Flavorful for some things. But overly spicy where it covers the flavor of the food. The fried rice was the highlight of the night. Nice to try once but not coming back. The servers were pushy with drinks if we wanted to order more. I understand that where restaurant makes their money but it got a little annoying when every time they came over was to ask if we wanted more drinks. My first and last time here read more

Tong was a little piece of Thailand in Ridgewood, Queens. It was hands down one of the best Thai places for food that I've ever had. I hope to see another location open up in Long Island possibly, which would be closer to home for me. I highly recommend getting the branzino! It was just the right amount of crisp and spice. The atmosphere was great, especially the pipe details. Service was good and the food came out quick. The drinks were very refreshing and the ice cubes reminded me of speakeasy places. Run, don't walk! The food is incredible and the decor is just as beautiful. Had never been to Tong before but saw that they had reservations open and wanted to check it out one weekend. Everything was so flavorful. I highly recommend the oysters, they had a little bit of everything! Cocktails were balanced and refreshing as well. For dinner I had the crab curry. It was definitely spicy but so so so good. I saved some to bring home and ended up eating it later that night. Service was fast and friendly, no complaints. I would say that it's a little pricy, but nice for a fun date night out. If you can handle the spice Tong will bring it! read more

One of the best restaurants in Bushwick. The ambiance, service, food, and drinks are fantastic. Had a reservation online and being seated was a hitch. We started with drinks, which were all unique and beautifully crafted. The menu is a modern and contemporary twist on authentic thai dishes. We started with the fried taro fritters and chicken wings. Both were seasoned well and fried to perfection to their own specifications. Som tum, green curry, crab fried rice and massamam curry were all great. The crab fried rice was subtle with its chili oil so it came away as the spicy-est dish. The massmam curry was a hit with its brisket being melt in your mouth tender. You can't go wrong with Tong, it's a must for Bushwick! read more

The waitress was inattentive, my drink was empty for 10 mins plus and she didn't stop by our table to check up on us until the entrees were brought out. We was placed in a corner where it was freezing but they did have a small heater plugged in that was rotating. There's a 30% gratuity that's automatically added to your bill, you're not told before hand. The food is 4/10 read more
