As a starter we tried one of their salads but requested it mild. We asked the waitress if it could be made without shrimp since I had a shrimp allergy. She really struggled to understand what we were asking and did not grasp the significance of a shrimp allergy. The item stated shrimp paste. We ended needing to call another waiter over who fully understood what we were asking. Overall that dish was a bit too fishy for our liking. The fried pork rib was very good and fresh. The fried chicken thighs as you can see from the picture are in fact not thighs. Of the four pieces one is a thigh and three are drumsticks. We ended up discussing this with the waitress who shared that the menu states dark meat, and it would be two drumsticks and two thighs. This was incorrect, the menu states chicken thighs only and she offered to take it off the bill once she realized. Neither of us are a fan of drumsticks. The best dish of the night was the crab fried rice. This was by far some of the best crab fried rice I've ever had and I enjoyed the spicy fish sauce that it came with. Overall, after the first interaction we were never approached again to see how we were enjoying our meals or if we wanted to order anything else. The first waitress actively avoided us. We ordered two drinks and eventually could not wait any longer--we ordered 2 curries and it took forever only to get zero follow-ups or check-ins on where our food was. As a business you really should be prioritizing the dine-in guests who are physically there to enjoy the ambience and food in real-time. The couple, who sat after us got all of their food, whereas the party in front of us who probably had been there 30 minutes before us received their fried rice 45 minutes after we sat. I came for Restaurant Week & ordered the Yum Lumyai (longan fruit salad), Thai-Style Chicken Biryani, & mango sticky rice. The salad was sweet, spicy and definitely petite. A mix between lychee & rambutan if you e never had longan before. The chicken biryani was a great portion. Loved the tumeric seasoned rice. The mango sticky rice was my least favorite but still not bad. Star player was the mocha cocktail & the shrimp curry entree was delicious as well. I couldn't pronounce some of the dishes, but my favorite was probably the pork jowl. The pork was grilled and so tender and juicy! The dipping sauce was also good. They had some very spicy appetizers with what I believe was either jellyfish or tripe. I definitely needed to drink Thai Iced tea for that one. I wasn't too crazy about the taro fritters, which were kind of hard. Almost like eating mini bricks. The massaman brisket was good, and the curry was excellent for putting on rice. I have nothing but good things to say about Tong. The 6 of us made a trip to NYC and were visiting some friends in Brooklyn, where one of them mentioned this spot to try. We all love Thai food, so it was a no brainer. We all started with some drinks. Most of us got the relic from the sun drink. Which is almost like a spicy sweet margarita. It was such a well-balanced drink, that a few of us actually got it twice while being there. My fiancé got the ticket to the moon drink, which is a gin based drink (she loves gin). She said it was great! It wasn't too powerful and also had a nice balance. I got the relic from the sun drink too, but I also got the madness. Madness is a mezcal based drink, but it didn't have too much of that smoky taste that you would expect. It was smokey a little bit, but balanced with the sweetness of the pineapple and lemon. All the drinks were very well balanced, and nothing was difficult to drink at all. Highly recommend any of these house cocktails! Moving onto the food. Me and my fiancé shared dinner, so we got one appetizer and one entree to share. We got the Gai Tod to start. Gai Tod is essentially a Thai fried chicken. Ours tasted so good. It was hot and crunchy and came with a nice sweet chili sauce. The portion size was pretty big too. We couldn't finish the appetizer at all, so we ended up sharing with some of the others in our group. For our main course, we shared the Drunken Noodle with Chicken. It was SO GOOD. I am honestly wishing I had some now to eat as I'm writing this. It was so flavorful and had a decent amount of chicken in there. We both killed the main course pretty quickly. Highly recommend both of these dishes!! Some of the others in our party got the crab fried rice and green curry. Both said that these dishes were pretty good too. Honestly, all the food was so good. There have many options to choose from, so you're bound to find something you will enjoy. The ambience of Tong is very nice. It's kind of like an industrial meets stylish-chic. It's a low-lighting type of place so it oozes a romantic type of feel too. We didn't drive here, we walked, so I'm not too sure about parking, but it is a NY restaurant...most places don't have parking anyways. The pricing of Tong is not too high, but it's not cheap either. We ordered a lot for two people and everything was immaculate, fresh, and well balanced. The flavors reminded me of the authentic, homemade balance I grew up with, but with such elevated execution of traditional classics I haven't experienced before. The massaman brisket curry was so good. The brisket wasn't melt-like tender, but it did fall apart very nicely. The classic punch of nuttiness goes well with the brisket potato curry. The vegetable and mushroom stir fry was such a perfect dish to accompany every other dish. I believe it's an entree but we ordered it as a side. The vegetable dumpling in the blue casing had a bolder coconut flavor than I expected, which I enjoyed. Truffle Spring rolls are a MUST-HAVE. And oh! The crab and pork encased in fried tofu skin is so good and an absolute favorite of mine. The crab chunk was generous and enormous! Crab Fried Rice is a no brainer if you like crab. It comes with a spicy lime, fish sauce. The pork skewer was deliciously tender and comes from their brunch menu. Tong is a unique space in Bushwick. We visited on a Sat at 5:30. Parking wasn't as difficult as expected. We found something right near the houses on the next block. It was a gorgeous day so we expected the place to be packed but that wasn't the case at all. They have 2 spaces with a wall in between. One is a more rustic covered outdoor area while the other is a smaller, more intimate traditional space. For drinks we had Mocktails because medically I wasn't allowed to have alcohol so my partner was being supportive. I had the Dok Tong- Mixed berry, rose water, lime, ginger beer. Bae had the Won Tong- Lychee, butterfly pea, orange blossom, tonic. For starters we had the vegetable dumplings (4). We also had the Gai Tod which is a crunchy fried chicken. They sent out about four pieces. I tried the leg and it was actually quite flavorful and tasty. Things were going well until they weren't . Prior to choosing the restaurant I previewed the menu and chose the location with confidence that both of us would find plenty to eat. He has severe allergies to shrimp (my fave) and I have walnut and pecans allergies. One might ask so why did we come to a Thai restaurant? Well, because it's one of our favorites. What we didn't foresee was that on the day of the visit, the establishment would alert us that their menu has extensively changed. WTF? Why would they think that's something they should highlight on the website? It was def a case of "catfishing" the food version. They weren't even apologetic.
