He was so kind and warm and genuinely treated us like he knew us personally, which added so much to the cozy, homey vibe of the place. The space itself is really cute -- perfect lighting with red tones, exposed brick walls, and such an intimate, inviting atmosphere. We ordered the charcuterie board and it was one of the best I've ever had. It was packed with an incredible variety of meats and cheeses and was more than enough to generously feed our table of four. At a lot of wine bars, I leave still feeling unsatisfied, but this one was filling and so well done. I had the Riesling and it was amazing -- the perfect balance of sweet and dry. And the real star of the show was the grilled cheese with ragù. So delicious. I'm from LA, but we will absolutely be back every time we're in Brooklyn. It's completely chaotic but that's part of the fun. I have really enjoyed the wine there and their food items (especially the grilled cheese) are not to be missed. The service experience is akin to a high school play being put on after 2 weeks of rehearsal. I sat at the bar once and we had ordered two bottles and they would not pour the wine for us lol, it just sat there. But I still think this place is charming. I'm not much of a wine person, but serious wine people (and sommeliers I know) detest this place for its raggedy operation and for not having a wine list. Don't go here ... Bouncer will bully you. I was with a group of people and at least five of us were separately harassed by one of the bouncers. Tall skinny black dude wearing a pink shirt and a blue hat. Guy was smirking and making trouble with multiple people, clearly just a miserable dude who kept trying to get off on making other people miserable too. At one point, my friend said, "I'm feeling animosity here even though we've been nothing but courteous patrons" and this bouncer said, "Maybe you're just sensitive". Probably one of my favorite spots in all of Brooklyn. I originally came here back in October but could only stay for one drink since I had a train to catch. On my last visit to NYC in May, we made a point to spend a little more time here. We came in for a glass of wine and a small bite to eat in the early evening. They had a pop up happening that day in the back with smash burgers, hot dogs, and salads. The pop up had vegan options too including a vegan caesar salad and a vegan hot dog. I got the caesar salad and was pleasantly surprised with how flavorful it was for being vegan. It was sooo good! I'm not sure what the regular food situation is here (I think it's mainly light bites) but you may want to check their socials beforehand to see about any other pop ups happening. The wine here is natural and I usually leave the ordering to my natural wine freak of a boyfriend. I can't say I've ever had anything here to drink that I didn't like and they're nice enough to give you a taste before you commit to a glass. Every interaction I've had with the people who work here has been great. Ordering is done at the main counter and you grab your glass or bottle and find a seat. There's outdoor seating in the front as well as a garden patio area in the back. There's also plenty of small tables and bar stools inside. It's a basement venue so it's dark and moody. It's hard not to be charmed by Sauced's backyard. It's a long space that always seems full of the best dressed people, and it's perfect for having a glass of chilled red when the weather's nice. They have regular chairs and tables around the edges on the cobblestones, but I prefer sitting on the wooden platform they built in the middle. There's a beautiful tree back there that gives some shade and makes for a nice backrest. I like that they don't make you look at a wine menu. You can just tell them what you like and they'll pour you something. Most of us can't really tell the difference between wines anyway, so it works out well. I went there for a friend's pop-up restaurant once and it felt like everyone I knew was there. The place is definitely better when it's not too crowded. I've been lucky and gone on some nights when my group could have most of the backyard to ourselves. read more

The bartenders were friendly and the wine was good, but we had a negative experience with one of the male staff members working on the patio. As we walked back to our friends who were already out there and to hand one of them their glass of wine, he told us, "Just so you know, the patio will be closing in 5 minutes." We politely acknowledged that and continued walking, but he then said, "I didn't tell you we're closing in 5 minutes just for you to come back here and hang out." That comment caught us a little off guard, especially since we weren't necessarily planning to stay and linger, but half our group was back there and we had wine to give to one of them. If he didn't want anyone else to enter the patio, that's totally fine, but say that clearly because "in 5 minutes" and "now" are not the same and customers are not mind readers. He ended up clearing the patio immediately after anyway, and was very outwardly annoyed with everything. The whole exchange gave off a pretty negative vibe. Maybe they're just understaffed or dealing with stress--in which case I hope they can get some extra support to handle the crowds, because it's really not fun to interact with unnecessarily rude staff. read more

The cutest wine bar tucked into the heart of Williamsburg -- it's a short walk from the Bedford Ave stop and I am SO. OBSESSED. They have plenty of seating inside and a lovely outdoor patio, which I've been loving during the springtime. The bartenders here are really knowledgeable and nice -- if you describe a wine, they're good at making recommendations and let you sample until you're happy with a pick. I really like coming to this place when I can snag a seat. It's always pretty busy and I know why. There is a rotating menu of wines that change pretty often. I always ask for the same taste profiles but each time I get to try something different. The little platters are also really yummy to snack on. If you get a spot in the backyard outside with a few friends it's a really lovely experience. If you're ending the night on a hot date you can go to what I call the "make out room" which is the dark ass room in the back that I think is for horny people after they've enjoyed a lil too much (or the right amount of) wine. It's very casual Williamsburg...take that how you want. The cool thing about this place is that at first impression it has the pace and feeling of a BK bar. Get your drink. Get a seat. No time for real chit chat with the bar person and move on because you don't want other people waiting behind you to order. But I played myself the first time I went because I was too shy. I realized that if you just ask - the people working there have very unique wine knowledge and experience. Not everyone is a sommelier BUT everyone working there has a high level of wine knowledge (and passion) so you can get a lot of information on the wine from varied backgrounds. This makes conversation about the wine pretty colorful and unique and I think it's what keeps the place approachable. You can tell their team really focuses on standardization among the staff. Even when the staff is busy they will take care of their immediate customers AND are more than happy to come back and give you any information you need on wine picks - which requires a type of rare skill. When I'm there and I speak to any person working I can immediately tell there is a true appreciation for their customers and you realize why it's not a "fad" spot. If you want a lot of wine info and ask they give it to you. If you don't that's cool too and they'll leave you be. Overall it's a cool spot - it's giving kind hipsters who discovered wine tasting. Have been hearing great things through the grapevine about Sauced. Popped in with my sweet roommate around 9 pm on a Sunday. I was expecting it to be pretty empty but was shocked to see that there were quite a few people there. Who knew that Sundays were so popular! There were two seats at the end of the bar so we grabbed those -- it was a bit too chilly to comfortably sit outside in the backyard for too long. I was already aware of the no-menu concept but generally think it's a good idea because the process of articulating preferences and seeing how they are reflected in the wine is very fun. I sampled a few orange wines but in the end opted to go with a red pinot noir. Pretty fruity and full bodied. Small critiques, but I was surprised that glasses aren't switched out between wine tastings-- you use the same glass. I didn't feel like it gave me an opportunity to really give each wine a fair shot, but I also recognize that means unnecessary dirty glasses. And also interesting is that the glasses they use for wine are really thick and stout. Am more accustomed to longer stems and thinner glasses, and generally feel that wine tastes better out of a thin glass. We ended up staying longer than intended because it was really just a fun and chill vibe. I'm very curious about the food here as well as it looked delicious. It seems that they have pop-ups decently frequently which I think is very fun. I don't see myself choosing to come here on a Friday or Saturday when I've heard it's packed, but am hoping to make myself a regular here this summer. read more

TLDR: the wait staff are RUDE and IMPATIENT - esp. with our bigger group one Sunday afternoon - all in the name of locking in a 20% group gratuity. They need to work on their internal comms, because our friend reached out ahead of time about a bigger group coming by and asked if a reservation was required, which the Sauced team said, no, just come early. Cool. Our group got there early at opening, but ofc there were still some that were gonna be arriving later (its a bday party - people come and go!). But the waiter said the bar policy is a minimum of $1000 for a big group AND must be on a single tab. Otherwise how would he be able to make sure that 20% tip was included for everyone in our group. We told them that someone from Sauced had confirmed before that we didnt have to make a res, but he just claimed we were being difficult (all while saying he doesn't want drama). In the end, we asked nicely and he agreed (reluctantly and bitterly) we can pay on individual tabs, if we agree to the 20% and to tell anyone else coming to mention they were with the group. The rest of the afternoon was uncomfortable for us and he was passive aggressive again and again - just the attitude you want trying to order an expensive wine at a place with out a wine menu. read more

Really awful experience at Sauced yesterday. I came here to meet my friends for my birthday because I love their wine selection and backyard space. Beforehand, I even communicated with staff online and in person and they confirmed with me that if I came on a Sunday at opening (a slower business day/time), I could easily just snag a garden table (instead of doing a reservation) and avoid issues with the card minimum and allow us all to have separate tabs. Unfortunately, when we arrived, one French bartender was incredibly rude and dismissive from the moment we walked in. Despite our efforts to be polite and even offer a larger tip to make things easier, his attitude was aggressive and he even threatened to kick us out. I wanted to visit this place specially for the backyard but sadly it was raining, so we had to park ourselves inside. They have a great collection of natural wines. We tried one of their Roses (I wish I could reconnected the name) and instantly went for a repeat. They bake their own bread in-house. Bread with cheese platter made for a perfect companion with the delicious crisp wine. I can tell you the backyard will be a perfect setting specially during warm fall afternoons.
