We visited Chiangmai Diner again and had a great meal. Service was on point and we both were pleased with our food and drinks. We'll def be coming by again

Had a great time at a local spot - and I already want to go again. We've heard good things about their lunch special, that they have some great cocktails, and my wife loves Thai food so this was a good fit for a dinner. I'm only giving 4 stars because it was our fault for not trying our usual Thai orders. Of the things that we got that stood out, the pork belly skewer and the crab rangoons were really, really good. I even ran into a neighbor and we gushed about the rangoons - I would go back JUST for the rangoons. I made the mistake of looking at the chef recommended, realizing that the orange ginger chicken was just orange chicken, and that it was a bit disappointing. The dish itself was fine. The flavor was there, but the rice had nothing to it and the fry on the chicken was okay. I would try anything else and again, my fault for getting something super Americanized where I would typically not get this dish. My wife got the beef shank stew - and it was pretty good, but again, we tried out of our comfort zone, and will come back for the pad see ew. The coconut custard dessert I really liked, but a little too gelatinous and warm for my wife, but I thought it was tasty. It was a very busy Saturday night and our server was really hustling so we appreciate making our trip feel worth on a busy night. Really cool inside! Wish they lowered the lights a tiny bit, but I cant wait to come back in nicer weather and try their outdoor area!

I went here with some friends on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait. The interior was very pretty and cozy. The vegan menu was very exciting, the smoked imitation duck was delicious and very different. The rod dang was EXVELLENT great cocktails.

Ordered some chicken pad thai for takeout and it was amazing. The noodles and chicken were so juicy and flavorful!! This was one of the best pad thai dishes I have ever had. The food was ready quickly and the staff was friendly. Caught a quick glance of my what everyone else in the restaurant was eating and it all looked so good. Also seemed to have a great atmosphere. I would definitely go back for dinner.

Always looking for new Thai places to check out and was excited to see this as an option. Ultimately, we enjoyed our meal and I would consider coming back vs. getting their lunch takeout special. We started with the fried salmon belly, a dish I hadn't had before. The crispiness was shocking when you then bit into such smooth salmon-a really jarring juxtaposition of texture. The sauce it came with was fine but not terribly special. We had also ordered the fish bomb but were told they ran out (we didn't need it). We got three mains: 1) Larb kua Chiangmai: Larb is one of my favorite Thai dishes and this was my favorite of the night. There was a generous portion of meat that was very well seasoned and spicy without being intolerable. The crudite was whatever for me but I did enjoy making small lettuce wraps with the meat and some rice. 2) Gaeng Hoh: This is a noodle dish I was not familiar with and ultimately didn't love. I do enjoy glass noodles but I didn't quite enjoy the flavoring of this-a bit too sour/fermented. This may just be what this dish is supposed to be. I don't understand totally why a noodle dish is served with sticky rice, though. 3) Khao Soi Chiang Mai: We love a good khao soi and this was a really nice dish. The noodles were delicious, the broth just right, and the beef so pull-apart tender. Always appreciate the crunch noodles on top. We made a reservation so got seated fairly quickly. The place itself is deceptively huge, which means that the environment is a bit loud. The decor is fun, tons of lights hanging with decorations on the wall. Because it was so crowded the service was, while super nice, a bit lacking (took us a while to get more water, for example). But the dishes came out surprisingly quick. Overall, a really nice meal.

We had a party of 7 and we were able to fit on a picnic table in the back of the restaurant. The service was quick and there was a nice ambiance for dinner. There were also coat racks which was a plus. Making the reservation was easy since the restaurant uses the resy app. The Gaeng Hung Lay was super tender and flavorful. Everything was at a solid price and portions were generous! Would recommend to a friend.

Overall rating: 4.8 Price: ~$60 WOWOWOWOWOW. Must visit. Sooo pretty. Never been so happy I got introduced to this place. I went with a group of 7 or so & we had to split it evenly. They only take 2x cards. So I don't think my price is a true representative of the items I ordered. But sharing below: - Lin-Ping: 3/5 so sweet. Not good. - Wai-Jai-Dai-Ga 3/5 nothing special - Curry Puff: 5/5 delicious! Very affordable too for the quantity. - Chicken Satay: 4/5 the peanut sauce is sooo good. Make sure to ask for it in a to-go container. They are really weird about it. Comes with lettuce & is a great eat. The place is absolutely beautiful and feels hidden. It's sooo large. Best for parties or a cute date. Not sure if I'd come here solo.

Green chili paste that accompanies the rib eye

Amazing food, very clean inside, & attentive & friendly service. Beautiful interior. The food here is off the hook. The green chili paste that comes w the rib eye steak is crazy !! The "fish bomb" fried fish app is also so good. Thinking about their food after having it at lunch today is making me go nuts now. Can't wait to go back ! The menu is giant - very difficult to decide what to order ! Cons - the music is really lame. They also don't need giant TVs facing the dining area playing nonsense.

I love a place thai place that serves non-typical Thai food and even more when they do it well. We ordered braised dishes and really liked them both. They had very different flavor profiles than in dishes that people usually order. The inside was super cute. The only thing is that since it was a busy night, we had a time limit which I've never heard of at a non-AYCE, sit down restaurant, so I felt a bit rushed. Other than that, I'd come back and try the other dishes.

Really enjoyed my meal here. It was a lovely vibe inside and bustling with people. Loved the decor and plants scattered around the restaurant. The dishes we tried were unique and so flavorful. I loved the heartiness of the broth and the spicy kick it had. The short rib was incredibly tender and melt in your mouth. My only complaint was the fried platter we got. A bit bland overall so I wouldn't get it again.

    Crab Fried Rice *Fav!
    Sarah L.

Pleasantly surprised at this Thai spot! Significantly more cost effective in terms of portions and $$ compared to standard Manhattan Thai restaurants. We got this northern Thai rice noodle soup dish w/ pork ribs that divine! Perfectly savoury, hearty, and zingy but the rice noodles were fall apart. Crab fried rice was insane, look at the amount of crab on that! Papaya salad was solid as well.

    Parisa H.

We went there for dinner as a large group. The staff were so kind and accommodating. The food was really good as well as the multiple drinks we tried. The desserts were also really good. Great place with a lot of variety. It would definitely be coming back again!

As soon as we arrived, we were escorted to a table. I've noticed that this restaurant seemed very authentic. They had dishes that I've never seen at other Thai spots. Their chefs are also from Central & Northeastern part of Thailand. So, they are cooking from their respective regions. The presentation of their dishes are all aesthetically pleasing. We decided to share a small plate of HOR MOK This tasted almost like a crab puree into a spoon sized portion. There's 7 pieces in one order. It was recommended to eat it all in one bite. It was great. Texture was very smooth in your mouth. Surprisingly, it had a spicy kick (but nothing too intense). I personally decided to try KHAO PAD MUN NEUR. This is a pricey dish, but very filling! It was said to have 2 pepper spice level to it, but I personally didn't find it very spicy. The rib eye was cooked just the way I like it - medium well (still with some redness in the inner portion). The meat had a perfectly charred/grilled exterior, but very soft to chew. This meat was probably the best part of the dish. Only slight complaint is that the rice was very saucy (almost a bit too much for my preference). But overall, I did enjoy it and was able to finish it, but left super full! Overall, I think it was worth a try. Their service is great. The servers are super great of making sure that your water is always topped up. They explained the recommended way to eat certain dishes. They were able to answer any questions that we had.

I dislike bamboo shoot which is not a standard ingredient for this particular entrée. I think the bamboo shoot tainted this entrée. I am a traditionalist conservative which bean sprouts is a good substitute variation for bamboo shoot vegetable including string bean. This entrée is my favorite default and as a caveat, if any Thai restaurant or cafe do not offer on their menu I refuse entry to patronize. This entrée enticed my interest and embedded the lunch meal menu for the reasonable price. I personally despise and do not consume spicy hot foods, but occasionally consume mild or very mild in the smallest measurement of the Scoville scale which I specifically requested, but received medium hot spicy. The waitress forewarned me the intense heat level on the Scoville scale as Thai cultural spicy with two or more bird's eye chilies for a high level of spiciness. The spiciness of chili peppers were, in my opinion, medium spicy. Despite the intense medium heat spiciness, the stir-fried noodles lacked flavor with, tender chicken, minimal vegetables, and Thai basil in a bland taste. I wish I chosen shrimp as the protein. Pad Kee Mao sustained my hunger pangs and ate my fill. When eating Thai intense heat spicy foods, I visualize to think of the TV segment "Niall Horan & James Corden Take On Hot Wings" on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in March, 2020. High heat spicy foods! Thai ice tea, large $3.00 This was a delight and neutralized the heat spiciness because it contains milk. It was served chilled in a large highball glass. If utensils are gold then the interior cafe should contain these "gaudy" feature extensive gold elements, including gilded moldings and furniture. My partner was running late, and even though the place is clearly very popular right now, they still accommodated us with a table. The staff explained every unfamiliar dish we asked about, always with a smile. I usually avoid the standard NYC Thai restaurant lineup of pad thai + generic curry situations and look for places that feel more regional and authentic. The menu here had a bunch of dishes I didn't recognize, which immediately made me excited. They even have a spice guide though the icons don't necessarily mean increasing spice levels. As I understood it, different symbols represent different types of heat. Three chili emojis and three meteor emojis may be equally spicy, but they hit differently. They recommended not to order the pad krapow nuer, and honestly, fair enough. Instead, we got the chicken khao soi, which was far better than versions I've had elsewhere - deeply flavorful, spicy, rich with umami. My partner was crying. I, meanwhile, was at "this is perfect and I'm having a great time." One Huge chunk of chicken cooked exactly right. Mix everything thoroughly before eating. Then came the kua kling which arrived with another warning. That dish became my personal challenge to impress the server, and apparently I succeeded because now they've promised that next time they won't discourage me from ordering the nuer. They kept refilling cabbage and cucumber for us to cool down from the heat. The kua kling itself was incredible. That dry curry heat was everything. It builds slowly, then suddenly punches you in the face - but alongside all that spice is an insane amount of flavor. They also recommended to order a non-spicy side dish to have a balanced meal and spice level, but we skipped it because it would've been too much food. Honestly, this is the kind of place where going with at least four people is ideal so you can try more dishes and balance the spice levels. And if you're unsure what to order, trust the servers - their recommendations were spot on. Also: really great ciders and beers. We were really happy with both choices. Overall, even though it's far from the city for me, I'd absolutely go back.

Newsflash: Ugly Baby is back on its bullshit. Ugly Baby's…read moreconceit, if you can call it that, was that it was really, really spicy. Spicy food, in case you didn't know, connotes authenticity. Call it suffering for beauty, in a culinary wrapper. Ugly Baby took this S&M theater to its logical conclusion in all regards: tuck it in an inaccessible corner of South Brooklyn; use tiny chairs and brusquely inform diners they have an hour start to finish at their table. The more inconvenient it was, the better. I held my applause after my single visit to Ugly Baby, which closed amidst wails and lamentation last year from people who liked rough treatment. But something drew me back to this reincarnation, started by the same people. Maybe, I thought, they'd found a way to bring us that magnetic authenticity, and hold the ball gags and chain flails? The answer is no. I should have known from the name alone: another mysterious two-word phrase (both of whose words again end in -y) that sounds like it could be an overly literal translation of some ineffable Thai concept. I should have known when it opened in the same godforsaken corner of ... what is that? Gowanus? I should have known from the protracted negotiations for a suitable table that followed when my husband, mom and I arrived punctually for our 5:30 reservation and were primly informed we'd be squeezing onto a two top, then were refused an obviously empty three-top ("it's reserved"....oh you mean by a party of three with a reservation like us?), and then grudgingly seated at a four-top, half of which was literally in the kitchen. I should have known after being apprised that "you have one hour at the table." I should have known when there were no appetizers or desserts, and only two vegetarian entrees. This is the same thing as before. We're so back, baby. The mushroom curry, with its single fire emoj, was nowhere near the spiciest thing on the menu, but gosh was it still spicy. How do they make food with such complex flavors that's still hot enough to have emanated from the bowels of hell? It has to be one of the best curries I've had. It's a talent, special even, but it could easily coexist without Hungry Thirsty's other downsides. But I think all those inconveniences and discomforts are the point. They serve to reinforce the specialness of the special parts, counterintuitively increasing your mental investment in internally extolling Hungry Thirsty's virtues. They are to each element what spice is to food: it hurts, and you're proud that it hurts. It all adds up to the second coming of Ugly Baby, and why wouldn't it? Enough people liked being slapped around; maybe they felt like they deserved it. You know if that's you or not.

Thai Ice Tea (4.75/5): Perfectly balanced, creamy and delicious without being overly sweet Beef Shank Massaman (4/5): Solid choice; the beef was well-cooked and the curry was flavorful. Pad See Ew Chicken (4/5): Good, though it leaned a bit sweeter than the traditional savory profile. Gai Tod Wings & Pad Thai (3.75/5): The wings were okay but felt slightly overcooked. The flavor was overpowering and unexpected
