Would have never seen this place if i were driving around, luckily my sister told me about it and we ventured in purely because my wife loves spanish food and looked at the menu. I got the beef in fried rice (which doesnt look like it would feed a starving dog). Unattracted to the food i gave it a shot. I did not find myself taking a break from eatting it to the end simplisticly fulfilling i was impressed to say the least. My wife had the 1/4 chicken with rice and beans. Normally she doesnt finish all her food in 1 sitting tonight was no different but she took it home and to work for lunch. Done and all gone. My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice cheap dinner, and this place was perfect. The setting was nice and cozy, exposed bricks everywhere. Beautiful hanging lights, traditional Peruvian dolls hung up on the walls. For 20 bucks him and I had- 1/4 chicken with yellow rice and beans (my boyfriend) and I had a 1/4 of BBQ chicken with yellow rice and beans; and we shared a side of Maduros. The food isn't amazing, but it isn't horrible either. You get what you pay for right? Two down sides- 1)they don't have liquor. They had a few coronas in their fridge, but still. My boyfriend asked the waiter if we could go buy a bottle of wine- the waiter said it was fine. We had a nice bottle of wine and we drank it discreetly. The other downside- 2)cash only. I ordered a beef empanada which came in a foam container the container was burnt with a hole in it and the empanada was as hard as a hockey puck. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

This is my default spot for Peruvian chicken! Just ordered some excellent chicken with fried plantains on the side, the taste and pricing were on point. So glad they are in Bensonhurst! Have been here 5 times in the past year. I live somewhat close to here, but was amazed by how good it was the first time. The business is family run and everyone is really nice. Never mind that I tried green sauce here the first time too! I usually order the same thing: an empanada and an entree; the great thing is that everything comes in big portions that can be shared. Avoid this place tbh. I've ordered from here several times. They have no consistency in their cooking. Last time I ordered yellow rice it was so over cooked it was literally mashed yellow rice. Disgusting. The chicken sometime has flavor, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes overcooked. If you order takeout they save the beans with the rice which is a bad idea. I didn't really like the empanadas too much, the meat filling was too dry. The spicy green sauce is really spicy, and the salad dressing is a bit too sour. I usually come here for their delicious chicken but was craving oxtail stew today which was on point. Tried out their cheese empanadas which was so also tasty, it's a nice vegetarian option. I've had their empanadas many times before, it's one of my favorites in any restaurant. Always nice and flaky with a perfect texture. Peruvian food is not easy to come by in this part of a Brooklyn. That being said, good Peruvian food is always a win in my book. I had a craving so I found this place via yelp. They're alright, nothing amazing...certainly good enough to satisfy a craving. I ordered to go, half chicken, which comes with rice and beans. I also ordered a side of maduros, yum! So the roasted chicken was good, but the chicken itself didn't taste very fresh despite the spices and seasoning. Rice and beans were ok, beans were on the salty side. Overall decent food at decent prices, but not something that will have me coming back many times. The beef empanada was obviously old since it must have been reheated several times that the ground beef was extremely dry & half burned. The Papa Rellena was a lump of grease. You couldn't even pick it up. They have no clue how to make it. They should really take lessons from a Cuban. They used fake boxed made potato (gross). There was no reall breaded crust. Ok so this is my first time ordering from here and I am quite disappointed. First, the girl taking the orders must be hard of hearing because I told her to make sure the delivery guy does NOT ring my bell being that I have a large dog who goes nuts at the sound of the door bell. Of course he did. Strike 1. Second, the bill was more than they told me on the phone by about $5. Nothing crazy but I purposely asked for the total on the phone to make sure I had enough cash ready for when they arrived. Strike 2. Third, I wouldn't call the food "bad" but I definitely wouldn't call it good. Most of it had zero flavor. None what so ever. Strike 3. The pernil was dry and tasteless as was the bbq chicken minus the bbq sauce which was decent, The papa rellena was disgusting. The meat inside was overcooked and apparently they put pieces of boiled egg in it which doesn't seem to be on the menu. The rice and beans had NO flavor at all. The only highlight of the meal was the maduros which were actually good and tasty. The food here is great, we've been coming here for years - to the older El Pollo and later to this one. This one seems to be run by the female members of Ruben's family, so we cal it "Rubina's". My only problem with them is that I get overcharged Every. Single. Time. I order a whole chicken, which is $10, and two pepper steaks. Pepper steak is $6.50, but it might have been marked up to $7. So let's do the math: $10 chicken $14 2 pepper steaks ====== $24 right? But I get a wide variety of prices, from $28 to $40. WTF?? It's delivery, there's no delivery charge but I always tip. I just don't get it. I've also had really weird delivery problems. They have amazing rotisserie chicken (not cut the American way though), and I also like their BBQ chicken. Pepper steak is amazing but it stews all day, so if you order it at lunchtime it will still be tough. Beef Stew is great, never had it served on rice before though. You can get your food with white rice, which is actually a little seasoned, yellow rice which is delicious, black beans, red beans, steamed vegetables, fries, or plantains. I believe you can choose between sweet or savory plantains. You might even be able to get Yucca. I got the papa relleno once and it was weird. Unlike the 71st street location, this one doesn't have pizza. Also, if you order in-house, you'll get small dainty portions of rice instead of the big mounds you get in the togo boxes. And if you order double rice (i.e. no beans), you might get gypped the entire second side. Still, extremely affordable and delicious, and will fill you up. They should bottle that green sauce! They only answer the phone in Spanish, which scares the non-Spanish-speakers in my house from ever calling themselves. If I wasn't here they'd just starve instead of braving it. I just called and verified the whole chicken is now $12. With the 2 pepper steak it was $30 so the price must be up to $9 each for the Pepper steak. I chose this place after seeing that they have 3 options for the family combo. Each were $22 and came with a whole chicken and various sides. We decided to get one of each. We also ordered the arroz con mariscos, chaufa con carne, maduros and tostones. The food was very good. The chicken was flavorful. The green sauce was good but I wish there was some garlic in it. The only issue I had was with the maduros and tostones. The maduros were dry inside. I guess they weren't ripe enough? And the tostones seemed a bit on the skimpy side for $3.50. It looked like it was just one banana that was used. I guess it's best if you made it yourself. And it'll be cheaper too. In the end, my sister said the family combos weren't really worth it. While contemplating as to what to eat for dinner we decided to yelp some reviews for spanish food. I've never ate Peruvian food before however; after this I'm a loyal fan of Peruvian food. The food is good so far and service has been good the first 3x I've come here. Today I ordered my husband's usual - pepper steak w/o the peppers since he doesn't like green peppers but the beef is good. Usually they charge the menu price of $8, but today they charged $10. I asked why and the cashier says because they have to remake the dish w/o peppers. So it's premade and you are going to charge me more - 25% increase in price - for less??? If I hadn't asked she would have never told me. I'd understand if she told me the increase in price when I ordered, but she never mentioned it and never said anything when she charged me - until I brought it up. Happy this place is in business in Bath Beach! Ordered take out last night and was extremely pleased with our food. Husband had the cubanito sandwich with pernil, ham pickles and swiss cheese. Huge, juicy and delicious! I had the half chicken with rice and beans. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the beans just right. This place gives a very homey vibe. There's paper and crayon on the table for kids to draw and benches on certain table to sit. I had their oxtail and chicken stew and was not disappointed. The meat was tender and it comes with potato, carrots and celery. The serving size here aren't too hefty so you will be perfectly content. It is also super inexpensive, most dishes range from 7 to 15 depending on what you get. DO NOT EAT HERE !!!!!!! I preorder my food about an hour before at this place for pick up. My order was simple 2 lomo saltados (one lomo with no black sauce (cillado) and one regular) 4 empanadas ( 2 cheese and 2 chicken) and 2 Inca colas. I even paid for my order in advance as well because I was in a hurry. Beside the fact it took over 40 minutes for them to make 2 lomo saltados. 40 minutes additionally from the hour that already past. I arrived at the restaurant and the female owner rolled her eyes and told me that if I did not like it then to learn how to cook and eat at home. In addition, the lomos were horrible. They are using cheap meat, very rubbery (it felt like chewing gun) I throw away the food and the empanadas: the chicken ones were undercook and the cheese ones were just flour and eggs, there was no cheese. I never hear of a restaurant owner that is on the wrong for the bad service and delays; tell her customers that if you don't like it to learn how to cook and eat a home Also, on my way out of the restaurant, my aunt and I spoke a little rodent friend coming out of the establishment.
