I LOVE THIS PLACE. However it's so frustrating that every time I order the food always takes so long!! It's so annoying! Been craving this food for months and decided to order some today , I ordered at 3:19 and it's about to be 5:19 AND MY FOOD STILL ISNT HERE. I have called about 3 times and she just keeps telling me the food is on it's way. I understand places can get busy sometimes mostly now during this pandemic but it the food is going to take 2 hours to arrive atleast let the customer know ! My mouth is watering just thinking about the food here. I honestly don't understand the bad reviews here. The rice and beans is delicious! I got so fat at one point getting the breaded fried pork chops here every week. It is made to perfection, crispy in the outside, soft in the inside and packed with amazing flavor, follow it with some rice and beans and I am in heaven. The food here is good, but typical. If you are looking for good Spanish food, typical Rice & Beans, steak with onions, fried pork chops, fried plantain (tostones) that spot is a good choice. The food quality is good, I recommend the steak with onions, Fried Pork Chop, and tostones. I always order this, super good. If I had a complaint is that the beans are never good. Each dish comes with a side of beans or plantains but I Always get the side of beans with an extra side of tostones. Service is good, very affordable prices. read more

No flavor totally a waste and the maduro was stuck together with some oil that tasted like it was old real fucking old. My other friends were not impressed the grilled shrimp were not grilled, my friend pointed out the shrimp were literally drowning in some crazy garlic butter oil. Highly disappointed. I originally went to this place about 25 years ago and was dying to have the "chicharrones de pollo". I finally went back after 25 years and boy have things change....their beans are water down and the chicharrones burned, so much so that the meat is extremely hard (probably re-fried?) and or dark as hell, as in the oil hasnt been changed IN WEEKS! My favorite Dominican restaurant in Brooklyn!!! Let's start with the signature dishes. First "chicharron de pollo" and second "pechuga empanizada." The sides are the best beans you will ever have in your life. The plantains come out perfectly fried every time. Also they have natural juices, my favorite is pineapple and the lemon juice is amazing!!! This place will make your cholesterol hit the roof. It's worth every bite. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious!!! They're are other things on the menu like typical Spanish dishes and soups. The beef soup is seasonal but also one of my favorites. read more

I won't go back, the food has a lot of condiments and customer service was very poor. We ordered 2 meals and it wasn't good as we thought. Serving portion was more than enough but flavor wasn't good enough. Besides the meals we also ordered empanadillas, we were the only ones in the restaurant and the girl forgot about it. In general, there are a ton of these places around Sunset Park. Small, simple, meat & side based restaurants with different flavors and ethnic backgrounds, similar to the way Chinese restaurants are. And they are all good. You seriously won't find a bad one in the bunch. You have Cuban, Mexican, Ecuador, Dominican, etc. el Buen Gusto makes a particularly good Cuban sandwich, and their rice is soft. The beans are good but not great, they aren't seasoned very heavily. What is very good is the fried, battered chicken here, its just a heap of decadence, its crispy and tasty. They promote that they specialize in seafood, and I haven't had their shrimp (they seem to have a lot of shrimp dishes), but besides the heavy oil its a great place near me to pick up some takeout. read more

Amazing food although no matter if you go in to eat or order for delivery there is usually an hour wait. Sometimes the meat I've ordered .. carne de res frita.. which is DELICIOUS.. is burnt. Then its too hard. I usually complain and have to get another order and wait another 45 mins for it. Other than those instances the food is great. Arrived here with a party of 7. While that is a large party, we were the only customers in the restaurant and the food took a long time to arrive. While waiting, we watched as numerous takeout orders were bagged up. After about 35 minutes of waiting, the food arrived and was very good. El Buen Gusto. The Good Taste. Its a Dominican restaurant in Sunset Park. I used to frequent this restaurant in the 90's with my sibblings, when my father had custody of us on the weekends. I remember ordering a lot of chicharon de pollo, deep fried chicken chucks,with white rice and beans. But recently I visited El Buen Gusto, not much has changed, but the taste of the food has. I ordered the roasted chicken with white rice and beans. I must say that it was tasty, the chicken fell off the bone, and it was not raw, like in other places. I loved their beans, a bit too thick for my liking, but overall good. The meal was low in sodium, which was real nice and heart healthy as well. One piece of advice for the place would go to the front counter people (this sounds weird,but you get what I'm saying). Please get your mind straight when taking orders. I was helped by at least three different women. This made the ordering process confusing, because too many hands on deck, but overall El Buen Gusto, gets a 3.5 Estrellas. read more
