You can't get any Dominican food more authentic than this. Although there's no outdoor dining, take out is best and you can bring it to sit by the boardwalk while you chomp down a big portion of yellow rice & beans, pig trotters and pastille for less than $20!

Really good Dominican food. I've tried just about everything from them and almost everything was delicious each time I've ordered.

It is time for an Ecuadorian lesson.. shall we? Let's break it down:…read moreDefinition: "Chuzo is a brochette or skewer of marinated, grilled meat with bold seasonings, classic sides, and the unmistakable flavor of Colombian street food." "Bar" well we all know what that means, "vamos, vamos, vamos!" Since my first visit last year, I was hungry for more deliciousness and decided to go with Yelpie friend, Sharon for brunch. Bar Chuzo has the restaurant and bar attachment which is where we dined. I happen to like the bar room for dining, it's charming and quieter for a Sunday brunch. Bar Chuzo offers really nice Brunch selections from ceviche, salchipapas, tuna, steak and apps from delicious fries, calamari, crab, plantain chips, croquettes and so much more. Here's what we ordered: Apps- Plantain chips( dinamita !) with a side of salsa verde. Yuca Croquettes with Yuca, Chihuahua cheese, and uchucuta sauce( green herb chile sauce with nuts) Dinamita number two! Two different brunch menus, Menu 1 offers apps, sides, entrees, cocktails and desserts. Menu 2: Bottomless Brunch for 90 minutes choice of Margaritas for $35 or Mimosas for $30. Mains: Crab cake Benedict consists of sunny side up egg, crab cake, potato cake, uchucuta hollandaise sauce, crostini and Chuzo salad. Sharon enjoyed it very much.Dinamita number three. Chicken Chuzo: Brasa marinated chicken skewers, Andes Ecuadorian corn, yuca croquettes. There are two skewers with three pieces of chicken on each, scrumptious, loved the taste of the chicken, the croquettes ( yuca again) nice accompaniment and the corn was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend! Dinamita number four. Cocktail: Mango peach sangria hit the spot! Service: Gabriella is a great, professional and accommodating server. Absolutely wonderful and knows her stuff! Dinamita number five. There are delicious desserts as well but too full. The portions are generous and this meal for me was lunch/dinner. The vibe here is chill with Latin music seeping into your veins. 'Mis felicitaciones al personal!' ( my compliments to the staff). Bottomless Brunch: Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am- 3pm Lunch Monday-Fri 12-4m Dinner: Mon-Thurs 4-19pm. The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. I will DEFINITELY be back to Bar Chuzo and if you haven't been, I urge you to check them out. You will not be disappointed.

The moment you step inside, you're hit with a masterclass in ambiance: dramatic paintings, modern industrial mirrors, lighting so flattering it could fix your credit score, and a neon‑blue bar that looks like it was designed by someone who said, "Let's make this place unforgettable." And they did. We arrived for our 7:15 reservation and were offered our choice of two tables -- a luxury in itself. It was a little stuffy inside, so we chose the table by the front window, where the air was breathable and the people‑watching was premium. Menus and water arrived immediately, followed by our server three minutes later, ready for drink orders like a man on a mission. I ordered a Shirley Temple; The Man ordered a Cacho Caipirinha. Three minutes after that, the drinks appeared along with a server who was clearly thirsty for our entrée choices. And let me pause here to say this: the service at Puertas is impeccable. Not "good," not "attentive," not "friendly." Impeccable. The kind of service where the staff moves with the precision of a well‑rehearsed ballet -- present but never intrusive, efficient without rushing you, warm without hovering. Every detail was handled with a level of professionalism that most restaurants only dream about. We ordered ceviche to share, I chose the Carne Asada, and The Man went for the Bandeja Paisa Colombiana -- a dish so large it should come with a legal disclaimer. What I forgot to mention is that Puertas had a live Latin band playing the entire time. Yes, live music. At dinner. In Bay Ridge. I nearly shed a tear. The ceviche arrived in five minutes, served with plantain patties and a need for a quick stir to distribute the seasoning. It was tasty -- bright, fresh, flavorful -- but let's be honest: it wasn't ceviche. True ceviche is raw fish "cooked" by citrus. This fish had clearly been cooked beforehand, likely to avoid lawsuits from people who fake food poisoning faster than they reach for Pepto Bismol. It's a shame, because a restaurant as talented as Puertas deserves the freedom to serve the real thing without fear of someone weaponizing a stomachache. But I digress. Entrées arrived about ten minutes later -- fast, efficient, and accompanied by music so good I briefly considered quitting my job to follow the band on tour. My Carne Asada was a beautifully grilled skirt steak topped with chimichurri, then topped again with crispy potato strings, all resting on mashed potatoes so smooth and flavorful they could convert a non‑believer. And I'm a mashed‑potato snob. The Man's Bandeja Paisa Colombiana was a platter large enough to feed a family of four, but he approached it like a man possessed -- eyes rolled back, no talking, no thinking, just pure blissful shoveling. Portions were enormous, so naturally we took home half the restaurant. Dessert was a religious experience. I ordered crème brûlée; The Man ordered tres leches cake. Two espressos joined the table, and suddenly everything in life made sense. The desserts were perfect -- rich, balanced, and absolutely worth the calories. The bill came to $184 before tip, and frankly, Puertas could have charged more. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the live music -- it was a five‑star experience without question. Puertas isn't just a restaurant. It's a full sensory event. A celebration. A place that knows exactly what it's doing and does it exceptionally well. Bay Ridge just got a new star, and I cannot wait to go back.

When we sat down we noticed that they revamped their menu and had so many new options of Latin American food to try. While reviewing their menu i saw that they had Pollo Chuco!! An Honduran (home country) dish that is so hard for me to find places that make it. I immediately ordered this as i get it whenever i see it on any menu. The rest of my family ordered pupusas, chicharrón de cerdo con tostones and Pollo a la plancha. When ordering the waitress seemed to have issues understanding our orders even though we specified the number on the menu of the order we wanted. I had ordered my food without onions as im not a fan of onions and the food came out with it. They took the food back and had all the onions removed which was fine. There was basically a whole fried chicken which was very surprising! It tasted delicious. The pupusas were great too and the chicharrón con tostones was very surprising in how much food there was on the plate!! All the food was delicious. The place itself could use a little work on the decor and even though we came on a Tuesday night there were a few people inside. After we had finished our meal we asked for the check and as we were going to pay with out credit cards the waitress said that they only accept cash!!!! We did not bring enough cash for all the food we got because we had never run into this problem before. Its a good thing there was a bank close by that one of us went to go get cash. But this would have been great information to have before we ordered and ate. We looked through the menu and on their entrance and nowhere sid it say they only accepted cash. We will definitely return here though.
