2nd time ordering from them & god bless them for making authentic and delicious dominican foods. My husband and I were in awe on how consistently delicious the foods were! We ordered the Dominican spaghetti with fried plantains, Cuban sandwich & pernil with yellow rice and beans! Man oh man!! That spaghetti was authentic and so delicious. I have been craving them since eating them a few years ago made by my friend's mom who was Dominican. To my despair, I have not found a place that makes it that good (they were usually lacking in taste & were quite dry). But this spaghetti was packed with so many flavors and full of sauce! That cubano sandwich with fried plaintains was also very delicious & the pernil with yellow rice & beans was superb! Thanks for staying open and feeding us. We order hot food each week for the teenagers in our youth program and this place has been in our rotation for over two years. We usually get the combos consisting of boneless chicken, rice and beans and plantains and the kids absolutely love the food. We order plenty and never have leftovers. Ever since my husband and I moved into the neighborhood recently, we've been buying/ordering food from here (which is ok). Sometimes we go in person and pick up the food ourselves other times we order via Grubhub or Uber Eats. On two occasions when ordering via Grubhub they screwed up our order and we attempted to get it corrected, we in no way wanted a refund we simply wanted what we actually ordered. Grubhub and ourselves attempted to call them for 45 minutes on one occasion and for an hour on another. For one order they forgot the sauce for a Mofongo dish and gave tarter sauce with the chicken tenders instead of ranch. On the other order they sent us chicken "WINGS" with tarter sauce (again) instead of the chicken "TENDERS" we ordered. As I shared before we didn't want a refund we simply wanted the right order, but because nor us or Grubhub could get in contact with them to get these issues resolved, Grubhub granted us a "partial" refund both times. These people apparently didn't like that and had the audacity to call my husband's phone not only on a Sunday, but on Valentines Day (a holiday at that) to accuse him of lying and being a scammer and proceeded to tell him that they're going to "black list" him so that he wouldn't be able to make anymore orders! Not only was that completely unprofessional and out of order considering how they're supposed to handle such a situation, but it was extremely disrespectful and ignorant. So my husband and I decided to pay them a visit with most of the food from the night before that they had delivered to us, to show them their screw up. We spoke to the owner (during which most of the staff gathered around to listen and watch) I explained the situation to them and showed them all the food and he and another worker said "oh yes, you're right those aren't chicken tenders" and they all had crazy looks on their faces and in no moment NOT ONE person, not even the owner himself, apologized for their mistakes or disgusting unprofessional behavior!!!!! We also made it very clear to them that my husband is a FDNY Firefighter (which they know because he's went in there in uniform to buy food before) and that I am a Holistic Health Practitioner with a business of my own and we had no need or intentions of ever scamming anyone, ESPECIALLY not them out of a couple measly dollars! I was absolutely disgusted with their behavior, even more after not getting an apology at the least. Very uneducated and unprofessional! This incident was handled poorly and all wrong. How are they mad at a client for their own screw-ups and mismanagement of their business?! They're definitely NEVER getting business from us or from our circle of friends and family ever again in case that wasn't already obvious. With a management and behaviors like that I'm surprised they're still even in business during this pandemic! read more

If you're not Spanish You will be over looked in this place!! I came in today to order of course they were packed. I'm in line & the worker clearly skips me and takes someone else order. This is not the first time this has occurred in this establishment. I come here because this is the only Spanish restaurant for miles. I love my food like i love my men...spanish and hot (dont worry im not a cannibal). And this place was...not what i had expected. The decor is a bit tacky (there was a bunch of pictures that dont suite the place). Two huge TVs dont really do much for the set up either. No menus were available so we had to go up and get one. No waitress came to our table so we had to go up and get their attention. Staff didnt do a whole lot in making u feel welcomed. The waitress wanted nothing to do with me once she found out i dont speak fluent spanish (i know my looks are deceiving...not my fault). Once the order was put in then the rest of our table was actually cleaned off. As for the food...beef stew, yellow rice with beans and pernil. Stick to what you know right? It didnt help. The food lacked flavor (perhaps someone lost the salt?), the rice was dry, the beans were too watery for my taste and the pernil must have been prepared from the day before because it was as dry as a man's mouth at a wet t-shirt contest for 90 yr old women. Their only saving grace was the tostones and that was only AFTER i found the salt and hot sauce and drowned it...cuz mama needs it hot. I am not even sure this is a spanish reataurant. My co workers have told me not visit the location, but I am the of person that challenge that recommendation. I decided to see why they tell me to go else where. I can honestly say, the management delivered excellent customer service. Ok, that is a 5. The place is very clean, so that deserve a 5. They make fried plantains (fresh) and taste wonderful, so that is a 5. They offer me the lunch special, when is after hours, because it was my first time there. Yes, that deserve 5. This was my second time visiting this restaurant. So my son and I sat down for table service and waited for someone to come and take our order. There were only two servers, one taking the take out orders and the other tending to table service. One waitress had taken the orders and served some customers who were there before us which was okay. I presumed that we would be next but then she gets lost behind the counter in conversation. People are walking in off the street and getting served faster than me. By now, I'm hungry and becoming frustrated and decided that if I wasn't served in five more minutes that we were going to walk out. I had to literally stand up to acknowledge that we were still WAITING for someone to finally take my order. The food was pretty good, the rice and beans could have been a little hotter. My son ordered rotisierre chicken which was seasoned really good. When it was time for me to get my check,that process took a long time too. Venture off the broadwalk a couple of blocks and you'll be in a whole new world. This was a simple Spanish restaurant with decent flavor to their food. Their daily specials are already prepared and waiting for you on a steam table. I had the stewed beef (one of their specials on Sat ) and a side order of sweet plantains. Total order cost me $11. The stewed beef had a nice flavor to it and there were some pieces that really tender and tasty. But unfortunately there were also a couple of large really lean pieces of beef that were too chewy. I have been eating at this place since I was kid. It is a little Spanish place and one of the only ones left in Coney Island. The only other one I knew in the area closed a while back! They renovated the place after super-storm sandy so it looks nice inside. DECENT. I get the "usual" when I go there so I can only review the food I usually get. There rice and beans are like my grandma used to make it and so are there maduros and tostones! There CARNE GUISADA is really good, but not the best I have had. The beef is a little rough but for the price you cant expect something spectacular! There Flan is fluffy and sweet definitely get it anytime they have it! So in conclusion, if you are looking for some food to make you feel warm inside and get away from the fanatics of all the famous restaurants in Coney Island stop at Mi Candileja! I saw that this place had weak reviews on yelp but i still went because i wanted some where to eat puerto rican food. 3 stars with only 7 reviews is a red flag and i should have listen. The enpanadas and relleno de papas where so so taste wise. Definitely not ordering those again. My girl friend had a baked pork chop with rice and beans. Too much salt in the pork but other then that it was ok. The beans where ok as well. They tasted like beans iv had from a million other spanish places. I ordered chicken mofongo. The broth was super greasy but worse still was the fact that they mixed the chicken meat with the platano with out take all the bones out out. Mistakes happen but this was just out right not caring. I always get the cup of rice from here because I don't eat meat. It's delicious. My parents usually get the pork or chicken w/ white rice and they love it. It's the only Latin restaurant in the area. Thank goodness. After a while, you get tired of Chinese and pizza. read more

I've been coming here since they opened back in the late 90's. The food is, good. Depending on which (cocinero) chef is present that day. If you can enjoy a LOUD atmosphere than you'll be okay. The food here is affordable and has great taste. I got boneless fried chicken rice beans sweet plantains with a 2 liter soda. All for $21 and that could feed up to 3 people I think.
