I recently ordered take out from Kowloon kitchen. I have not ordered from them years as I moved to a different city. There food is very good, and still taste the way I remember it. I recently ordered their special A combination which came with a box of pork fried rice, a box of chow mein, a box of sweet sour pork, and a few fried won ton chips. We love this place. We don't even live in the area anymore but we go out of our way to order from here. Our favorite is the salt and pepper fish. Lightly fried in a thin batter, salt and pepper, and served with onions and jalapeños. Slightly spicy so beware but so good. Our other favorites are the house chow mein, Mongolian beef and warwonton soup. The soup servings are huge and such a good meal on rainy days. read more

This is one of my favorite affordably priced Chinese food. Definitely a hole in the wall with limited seating. They are known for takeout. It gets really busy so call ahead and double the time they tell you during peak hours. Highly recommend Honey walnut prawns. Good size and amount of prawns. Right amount of mayo and sweetness. Don't get me wrong, for the price it's ok, but the amount of 5-star reviews saying that this is authentic and great quality food gave us entirely the wrong expectation. This is not the place to go if you are a fan of real authentic Chinese food (which you can actually get close to in the bay area). This place is cheap, with decent size portions, but it is American-style 'Chinese' fast-food. Lots of sugar and food coloring, but no 'real' flavors, no actual Sichuan-pepper in the Sichuan beef, and thick fried dough instead of won-ton pastry in the won-tons and eggrolls, etc. I've spent alot of time in several parts of China and Hong Kong, and I guarantee you'll never eat anything like this in Kowloon. I've also eaten in many places in the bay area that are 10x better quality. Having said that, maybe you don't want real Chinese food and just want a sticky-sweet, affordable fast-food. I've given them three+ chances and the best out of them was mediocre minus. Perhaps there are items that are better, because I can't figure out the 4 stars, but then again there are few Chinese food shops in this niche of Almaden. Our regular take away has closed and thought to try out this restaurant because it's close. Absolutely delicious food, we were very pleased. The only thing we have to readjust is portions - 3 dishes to share (w/a mein and something like pot stickers) - just about did well for four adults. We tried out this take out restaurant since October and love it!! It serve good food for the price, it is cheaper than most Chinese area in the area, including Almaden, Saratoga, Cupertino, San Jose. The service is fast and easy, and it offers good choices for simple dinner for my family. My son finish his swim team training at 6:15pm, so it is very convenient to call ahead, pick up dinner after training, go home and eat. read more

This place earns all 4 stars by having an balance of: incredibly low price, fast and friendly service, good location in Almaden, and completely acceptable food. This is the kind of place where you can phone in order 5 items, get there 15 minutes later, have enough food for 5-6 people to eat, and leave paying $35 or less. I've ordered several things off the menu a handful a few visits, and I particularly like their combo chow-mein, the mu shu pork, and the sesame chicken (which is a whole chicken breast - crazy). I always order an item or two I haven't had before, and sometime they are hits, sometimes not. But it's always worth it. While you may get an item or two you aren't in love with, even their least-good items are still acceptable. And their best stuff is an outrageously good value. Give them a shot if you're in the area. Discovered this place about a month ago and I've gone back about 5 times since then. The place is a gem of a find! Food is good and prices are pretty inexpensive. My hands-down favorite is their pork chow mein. Second favorite is the honey walnut prawns. Other items are really good too including the combination fried rice. We don't have really any Chinese food in the area where I live now, so when I come back to SJ to visit I make it a point to go here! I love their Chicken Chow Mein, big thick soba noodles. Not to mention they pack what feels like 3lbs into a take out box. I ate two helpings and it looks like it hasn't been touched. Food for days! Fried plain won tons dipped in soy sauce. Usual order: chow mein, veggie eggrolls (comes with 6 and sweet sour sauce), and orange chicken. People say the honey walnut shrimp and lemon chicken is pretty good. I've heard that the quality and taste depends on the day. Overall: good amounts, cheap pricing, quick friendly service (15-20 mins), tasty food, makes you pretty full! Has yet to disappoint! Delicious, authentic Chinese food. Had the house chow mien, eggplant with garlic sauce, and the pepper pork short ribs. Eggplant was not the chili garlic sauce that I'm used to from other places, was not spicy instead, but still tasted good. Order came up in 10-15 minutes. Service was fine. read more

Decided to give it a once in a lifetime chance :) by ordering their bbq chowmein. yes bbq chowmein was my test! Some of you will say how can someone mess up bbq chowmein? Yes people can mess u bbq chowmein. It is the simplest chinese food to make and if you're not good with this I'm sure you're not good with the rest of your menu. We have only tried 1 dish here which is HK style egg noodles with beef and veggies. It tasted it and became our togo chinese dish. Portion varies time by time. Latest time was less than normal. Finally, I tried this place, don't know why I waited ten years. We ordered salt & pepper fish, right amount of breading and so crispy but and don't feel creasy.
