I was passing through concord on my way to SF I stopped by Koon Thai Kitchen because I haven't tried it out before and had the curry noodle, It was really gooooood. The wait staff was very polite and knowledgeable especially because I took a while to choose what I wanted. I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends who like thai food. read more

I personally have only eaten at Koon Thai Kitchen a couple of times, however both meals I had there were excellent. They have all flaver you could desire, anywhere from hearty with subtle nuances of herbs and spices. To an in your face flavor explosion! I don't usually have takeout so good that I'm inspired to write a 5 star review but I ordered take out from here last week and it was absolutely delicious. I used to go to Mai Tai on Clayton Rd but they are always so busy, often they don't answer their phone, and on this particular day they were closed so we decided to try Koon Thai. I got the drunken noodles and yellow curry and both were so flavorful and yummy. The staff was also very nice. I would highly recommend this place. I haven't been inside but didn't feel like cooking and used DoorDash to get some food. I should be ashamed as they are .2 of a mile away or about 5 blocks away. Anyway, got the Thai fried rice, Beef salad, Chicken Satay and Lumpia and everything was really good. I plan to actually visit it soon and try more things. Probably the best Thai food I've had in 30 years. I ordered medium heat and it was perfect and they know how to use fish sauce to accentuate flavors and not have everything smell and taste like fish sauce. Good job! read more

Excellent food! I don't usually eat fish, but my husband and I really enjoyed it and wouldn't doubt if we come back to order it again. Our friends really liked their lumpia and panang too. They even said it was probably the best they've ever had. I've found a new Thai restaurant in concord as my go to. Downtown restaurants are closed and Mai Thai is closed today. My wife and I tried this brand new Thai restaurant tonight. It's only been open for a couple days. Overall our experience gets 3.5 stars, but will round up since it's a new restaurant with a lot of potential once their kitchen execution is refined. Now for the details. We ordered som tum (papaya salad) medium spicy, kra prao gai (basil chicken) spicy, and khao soi gai (Chaingmai curry noodles with chicken). Som tum - my favorite dish of the night. The papaya and greens were all very fresh, and the citrus dressing was well executed with a very good balance of flavors. Lots of garlic but I like that. Kra prao - this was a good rendition of this dish overall. It could use some tuning of the flavor profile though since it was missing something in the savory flavor balance. Also we ordered this one spicy and the heat wasn't there - it was more like a medium spicy. They may be a little scared to serve things particularly spicy at this point, so you may have to say you aren't afraid of hot chiles. We ordered this with a fried egg on top and they were happy to make it that way. The egg was done nicely -- a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Khao soi - we were most looking forward to this dish as it's one of our favorites, but it was disappointing. The flavors in the dish were mostly there, but there were multiple execution issues on this one. Honestly I'm a bit surprised it left the kitchen in this state, but I'll just assume it's due to the restaurant being so new and they are still working on their kitchen workflow. Here's the problems it had: - undercooked onions and bell peppers: this dish is supposed to have cooked white onions and bell peppers and then served with thinly sliced raw red onion, cilantro and green onion. The problem is that the white onion and bell pepper wasn't cooked enough. They were essentially raw large chunks of onion and not edible. The bell peppers were also almost raw, though that's a lot more edible than 1/3 of a raw white onion. - they forgot the chicken: the dish was served with no meat. I let them know and they addressed it right away by cooking the chicken in more curry broth and bringing that out to us to add. - their version doesn't have the mustard greens pickles that khao soi normally has. I think they are called "pak gard dong" in Thai. In my opinion this is a critical part of the dish as it provides a bit more vegetable to the dish, and the slight sour flavor cuts through the heaviness of the curry broth. If the owners read this review, please consider adding this. I know this is deep suburban Concord, but we can handle the authentic flavors. :-) - cilantro cut too fine: this is a minor thing. My wife doesn't like the taste of cilantro but I do. Normally I just take the first pass at the dish and eat all the cilantro, but here it was chopped very fine making it hard to remove. I'll have to order it on the side next time. All and all this was a good experience. Ingredient quality seems good. Pricing is reasonable for portion size and ingredient quality once execution is there. Servers were friendly and the dining room is nicely decorated. Hopefully they get the kitchen issues worked out over the next few weeks, since we need a good Thai place in the neighborhood. Please try them out and support this local business. The good is overpriced for the portions received. Curry is watery. Both that we tried. Too runny and lacked creaminess. We ordered the lunch special chicken basil noodle( pad kee mao ) and chicken pad thai to go. It took them less than 10 minutes to prepare as they were not busy. Service was friendly. The pad thai was at first lacking in flavor but I realized that the sauce had settled to the bottom. After mixing it up, it tasted better. The pad kee mao was tastier and I asked for it to be spicier so it definitely had a kick. There was a generous amount of white chicken in both dishes. I would go back to support this local business. Very disappointing, I order yellow curry, and Punkin curry chicken, when I got home I discovered that there hardly no chicken at all, for the price I was charge, I am very disappointed. We are going to some difficult time and I'm just trying to help some local restaurant stay in business, but after finding what this restaurant is doing, and on my own opinion, they are just taking a vantage of people. I ordered take out to try Koonthai for the first time. I liked the 15% off code readily available on online ordering. The red curry was above par and delicious. The peanut chicken not so much. The sauces are a little thin. The fried eggrolls were good but not crispy enough, so they did not travel well. We've been searching for a delicious seafood salad in the area, and Koon Thai Kitchen had exactly what we were looking for. Tasty fresh spring rolls, too. The Pad Thai and Red Curry were also excellent, flavorful and not too spicy, with extremely generous portions. This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. We got take-out. I don't know why there are so many good reviews​ for this place. The egg rolls were mushy inside and didn't have much flavor. The Basil Noodles were dry with no sauce or flavor and the beef was dry. We actually took it back and were refunded our money. The green curry was alright but the veggies were really big. This place has great fresh Thai food, I went there three times last week week. Food is cooked to order, I went there with party of seven once, party of five another time and tried a lot of items on the menu with no complaints. It was okay. I was in the area and just scanning yelp to see if there was somewhere to stop and eat. I've been really craving good soup somewhere, and since "soup" was listed under the name I thought I'd give it a try. I got a small bowl of Tom Yum soup with shrimp. Shrimp was good, soup was pretty alright, nothing special. Mushrooms were bland button mushrooms, and something tasted kinda too acidic. I also found part of a tomato in the soup? Maybe this is normal? Maybe I should have ordered something else on the menu? Not really sure, but it definitely was within my budget... so... it was okay? Went on here on a lunch break from jury duty from the Pittsburgh Superior Court; I must say that the interior, music selection, and most definitely the food makes you truly feel like you are having the pleasure of Thai cuisine. The atmosphere is very relaxed inside the restaurant. My first encounter was some takeout and I got the curry noodles for lunch. The lunch special are reasonably priced. The curry noodles was so good!! Had just enough spice to make me keep eating and want a tiny bit of water. The second time we ate there and I had my 2 year old son with me. They had extra lid plates and cups which was so helpful with a very active and grabby two year old. We had the pumpkin red curry (tasted similar to the noodles I had), pad Thai, and peppered chicken.
