Not quite being connoisseurs of Jamaican food, we ordered the stereotypical thing to order - the jerk chicken. While I was waiting I noticed they also had ox tail. Ox Tail - although delicious, is quite a rarity in our restaurant/food scene. For those who aren't familiar with it, google describes it perfectly as "known for its rich flavor and succulent texture". Having similar above convo with the owners as we waited lol, they let us try a sample of the oxtail too. Guys! THIS is why I'm writing my review. Ok ok... this and the Jaimaican Patties. These two things are where it's at. The oxtail was perfectly cooked...tender...flavorful... mouth drooling. And what is a Jamaican patty you ask? We weren't sure going into it either. You have to see the pictures because the patty speaks for itself. There's layers of yummy flakey buttery pastry around a deliciousness of meat filling. We ended up going back and ordered the oxtail and patties again so I can vouch for consistency in what I speak of this place. I don't even need the sides. Just give me an oxtail meat plate with beef Jamaican patties and I'm all set.

Overall I liked it! The oxtail was tender and delicious, the sauce had a nice mix of smoke, sweetness, and a tiny bit of heat. For a regular (as opposed to their large) size plate it felt like a good amount of oxtail I thought based on the description the gungo rice would have a more prominent coconut taste but it was pretty typical Jamaican peas and rice. We decided to eat at Bikkle, close to the University of Texas at Austin on Guadalupe Street. Bikkle is known for its authentic Jamaican cuisine such as jerk chicken, oxtails (hard to find anywhere anymore) and curry goat. Between the four of us, we ordered jerk chicken, curry goat, and curry chicken. We all went for red beans and rice with cabbage. All dishes came with plantain, which is one of my favorites. Having been to Jamaica a couple of times, I can report out that this food is authentic! The flavors were swirls of goodness in every bite. The food was also warm when served. We also ordered jerk chicken egg rolls. Just think about that concept for a minute. The jerk chicken egg rolls were exceptionally good. The highlight for me was the curry goat. First, you do not find goats on many menus. The curry goat was tender and oh so flavorful. Some pieces had associated fat. All in all, everyone was happy with their meals. During our dinner, only one person was serving customers. She was super friendly and personable. I must think she was overworked as the stream of customers came in. Now for the décor...if you walked in and looked only at the counter, you would have thought it was a "to go" restaurant only as many "to go" containers were stacked high on the counter. Only one other couple sat down and ate in the restaurants and most folks were picking up their food to go. Even the people eating inside the restaurant were served in "to go" containers. The inside is minimalist with no ornate furnishings and yellow walls, projecting a Caribbean feel. Recommend adding a bit more Jamaican artifacts such palm trees, Jamaican flag, surfboard, etc. It would be a great spot for students, friend meet ups and a causal date night... Bikkle Jamaican Restaurant it was great and represented authentic Jamaican food well! We definitely will be returning.

LPL is a very relaxed place that has good music and a large vinyl collection so even if the wait is long, it's still a good time. The pastry on the pastelito was perfectly flaky and the boudin filling was the right proportion of meat and rice. The fried chicken thigh was excellent, with a nice thick crust and very juicy meat. It is hard to find, so just be on the lookout when you drive up the street, you should see a tent with a blue table underneath it that's next to the truck. The owner is very friendly and made me feel at home, excellent service. The ambiance is very authentic, he even has a small bluetooth speaker playing latin music and everything.
