After having this on my Must Try list for the past three years, I was finally able to try Boteco, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Picanha Grelhada. The steak was cooked medium rare, just the way I like it. It paired perfectly with the fluffy white rice, veggies, farofa, and of course, the fried egg. It was my first time eating farofa, and I enjoyed the added texture (almost couscous-like). The staff was also incredibly friendly! The only thing to note is that the pricing has changed quite heavily. On Yelp, you'll find that many of the menu images show the Picanha Grelhada to be around $14-$16; however, the current price is around $20. It's been more than 2 years since I first visited Boteco, and I originally came with a friend who claims this is one of the best food trucks in Austin. At the time, I didn't think much about Boteco's food besides their prices are a bit steep for food truck food. It wasn't exactly a memorable experience that made me want to come back again. However, more recently, I was sitting in the lobby of my apartment building with my boyfriend and saw Guy Fieri's special on Food Network. He was watching another man cook in a food truck, and I exclaimed to my boyfriend that the food looked excellent and reminded me of Boteco (I originally went with my boyfriend and another acquaintance). He said that it was and Guy Fieri had come to Austin to do a food special with Boteco and its owner! I said that we had to go, and we did. The owner happened to be at the food truck that night (we went around an hour before closing), and we told him we came because we saw him on Food Network. He explained to us that Guy had come maybe 2 years prior and Foot Network doesn't inform him of when they release the footage. He said that he catered for Matthew McConaughey's wife's birthday party a few years back because she's Brazilian, and the couple loved the food so much that they befriended Boteco's owner. Matthew was even the person who recommended Boteco to Guy for his show, and the rest is history! I thought it was a really exciting and interesting story, and I'm really glad to have heard it directly from the owner himself. Let's start with the food! My boyfriend and I ordered yuca fries, traditional pork stew, and Feijoada. Everything came out pretty quickly and as you can see from the photos, the food is plated nicely as well. There are a lot of components to their main dishes, so I would recommend you mix the bowl before you take a large bite. Everything was cooked perfectly. The yuca fries are crispy, and the sauce is everything! It reminds me a little of the truffle fries sauce from Hopdoddy's. I definitely wish they gave you more of the sauce because I typically douse my food in sauce. I loved my beef dish. The meat is tender and a little bit tough, but there are some fatty parts to even out the texture. My boyfriend really liked his pork stew as well. I definitely would want to come again. I haven't really had Brazilian food before, aside from the meats at Fogo de Chao, so I came to visit Boteco to explore what else the cuisine has to offer. Feijoada is one dish I tried which features a sausage stew where the meat MELTS in your mouth pretty much. It was really tender and flavorful! The Picanha Grelhada is another that I got which comes with top sirloin. Both come with rice, beans, and farofa (Rice flour - unique in texture!). All in all, both were really refreshing to eat. I like how health conscious Latin American dishes are. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this out. Overall I would give them a 3.5/5 if I could. However, there was more to be desired from the beef and the size portion of the dish left me still hungry afterwards. It's one of the many food trucks you'll find in this city and quite surprisingly, there was only our party and another that was there that Saturday evening. By no means am I complaining having had a nice and quiet meal outdoors in a backyard setting while sitting on a wooden bench under a canopy with string lights all around. We had the place to ourselves and was even attended to by the guy who ran the truck making sure everything was pleasant. Pastel de Queijo ($4) or 4 cheese empanadas if you will was such a delight with a super crisp crust. Though hollow inside, you can somehow confirm there is lots of cheese and when you pair it with their chimichurri aioli, you've got yourself a winner. The rice was fluffy, garnished with marbled onions and chives. There was faroffa (toasted cassava), friend egg, and vinagrete salsa. This is a typical Brazilian food plate and comfort food! I paid around $15 and it was sooo worth it. Amazing. Their coxinhas were just as good and my grandmother used to make them. Packed with flavor. This is a popular food in Brazil consisting of chopped or shredded chicken meat, covered in dough, battered and fried. The pasteis were enormous. Flaky, crunchy, with great taste. First time having Brazilian food from a food truck. My experience was a great one. The guys who work the truck are friendly and treat you like an important customer. I strongly recommend starting with their cream cheese filled croquetas with extra cilantro mayo on the side. Make sure to order this first since they are highly popular and may run out! I also enjoyed their hot Yukon fries! For my main course, I really liked their all meat bowl which comes with pork chicharon, beans, steak, rice, etc. It's a heavy load that'll satisfy you! I suggest taking some hot sauce and drizzling over the meat for some extra flavor and spice. The bowl itself will run about $11-$13 and is well worth it. We also had the croquetes, and my dining companion had the steak sandwich (served on a perfect piece of pao de queijo). I had to order a Guarana, of course. I actually first heard about Boteco about three years ago when one of my other avid foodie friends raved about it, but I never had the chance to try it. For whatever reason, the name Boteco randomly popped into my head three years later when we were deciding where to eat. My friends and I made the mistake of deciding to play tennis at 4pm at a whopping 104 degrees. In total, we got two orders of the Picanha Grelhada and the Feijoada. We knew it'd be a crime if we didn't order the Picanha and we wanted to try the Feijoada because we remembered it as a spelling bee word back in our competing days. The steak from the Picanha Grelhada was perfectly cooked at my requested medium rare. The egg was super good and perfectly runny. The beans kinda spilled out a bit so I ended up having to mix everything together, but it was good like that too. As for the Feijoada, we've definitely never had anything like this before but we were still pleasantly surprised! The best part was probably the sausage slices in the dish, but there were only two slices. Now the why we decided to not give five stars. We collectively thought there are much better ways to spend $17 in Austin. Don't get me wrong, my one-time tasting Boteco's food was definitely satisfactory, but personally would probably not go again just because of what you get for the price you pay. Even in terms of uniqueness in taste/flavor, I don't think I'd ever have a craving for Boteco's food, so I'm not even sure if it's one of those "it's pricey, but you definitely need to try it at least once" places. We arrived at the Boteco food truck at lunch time on a Wednesday and there was only one other table of customers and no line- I am fairly confident it was because of the 100 degree temp because the other food trucks in the area was devoid of people as well. Both were delicious, but definitely go for the coxinha for its cheesy, fried goodness. My husband may have eaten more than his share of this appetizer. The Picanha Grelhada was an incredible dish that we have never tried before. The medium rare steak was cooked to perfection and worth the $16 when accompanied by its medley of ingredients. Will I be that one review that gives boteco 4 stars? Absolutely not. Because this place is OUTRAGEOUSLY good and a must visit in Austin. Probably my favorite food truck here. There's outdoor seating next to the truck, covered by a white tent decorated in some pretty pink flowers. I thought it was a quaint seating area and a nice place to avoid the sun. Although everything seemed tempting to try, my friend and I decided on the pao de queijo sandwich and the picanha grehalda. Both came with perfectly cooked and well marinated steak. The star of the meal however, was this pao de queijo sandwich. Pao de queijo is Brazilian cheese bread, which if you haven't had before, is made with cassava flour and cheese giving it a chewy consistency similar to eating like a lovely cheesy mochi bread with a crisp exterior. This is the first time I've heard of someone using it as a bun and as soon as I saw this I knew I had to have it. Boy oh boy was I happy as a clam. The bread is AMAZING. It's super cheesy and delish, and the outside has that perfect consistency of being crispy and chewy at the same time, kinda like eating a disc of meringue. The coxinha are pretty good too - fried chicken croquettes that are filled with seasoned chicken meat, fried to perfection and comes with chimichuri aioli and a hot sauce. They're a bit on the small side, but make a good appetizer. The yucca fries here are still I think best I've had anywhere - extra crunchy outer crust with a supremely creamy inside. Don't know how they do it but its so worth it. Easily the best steak lunch you can get in austin for the price so come over here already and grab some food! read more

I paid $15 for a dish at a food truck! I felt like that was ridiculous pricing. I agree that it was good and pretty authentic, and they're unique to serve and present South American food. However, it still does not seem to warrant that price. I thought our dish should have been $10-$12. On top of that, we maybe waited ~25-30 minutes for our food. Definitely a tad disappointed since we came seeing the 5 stars from Yelp. At least, I got to experience the Brazilian food scene. read more
