Looks like a space that people use for WFH and or just meetings outside. The ox tails were good! I think I've only had 1 other place in Austin that has better. The sides are great too. My only change would be to add more cabbage. I got the small ox tail plate.

I'll most likely order the oxtails and jerk chicken.

He politely said, "give me a minute, brother," which already told me the vibe was going to be great. I wanted pretty much everything on the menu but I thought I would be gluttonous and get everything fried. The yuca fries were insanely delicious and came with an incredible dipping sauce -- the same one that comes with the empanadas. Holy hell, the empanadas were otherworldly! There is so much chicken in them and it is seasoned to perfection. Once again the dipping sauce...I could eat it with a spoon. Weirdly enough one of the highlights of this experience was the slaw. It was super bright and fresh. I could eat a whole bowl of it! Great customer service, great food, and reasonable prices. Make sure you check this place out when you were at Hi Sign!

The sweet potato lacked flavor and didn't seem freshly made, but everything else in the bowl was good. The dressing was legit. Can't remember what it was, but I loved it! Added the right amount and a good balance of flavor. It was a bit expensive for what you get, but I didn't feel ripped off. Just a little hungry when I finished. If you're over at Wanderlust, it's a good food option.

Include: (2) krab clusters, (10) shrimp, sausage, corn, egg, and potatoes. Ordered it "suicide" style which basically means all of the sauces/flavors together. Places great. Food cost was ~$45. Arrived around 2:00pm on a Saturday and food came out in like 7 minutes. Didn't skimp on spices and butter. Plenty of to fill two people up for lunch and leave the room to be able to try things either within the same food truck lot or somewhere else. We elected to grab coffee else where. The guy working was super friendly and helpful. Even took the trash bag to throw away the shells for us. We didn't ask but the one critique is to include crackers apart of the orders or simply pre crack the claws before you hand out the bag. Got creative with breaking the harder shells. Other than that, food was great, will be back if we come back to Austin.

The man cooking is incredibly sweet and came in clutch when I forgot to order seasoning. I was visiting from a region known for crab/seafood boils and was not disappointed! Crab tends to turn to shreds when it's overboiled, and I was EASILY pulling out nice, intact pieces from the shell, so no worries about that here. If you're in the area, definitely approach the truck even if it looks closed--worth it to double check!

From there, go grab yourself a drink and a table. She texts you when your food is ready and you pick up at the same place you ordered. Our wait was kinda long and I'm completely okay with that. She's by herself making your food when you order it so it's worth the wait. LPL is a very relaxed place that has good music and a large vinyl collection so even if the wait is long, it's still a good time. The pastry on the pastelito was perfectly flaky and the boudin filling was the right proportion of meat and rice. The fried chicken thigh was excellent, with a nice thick crust and very juicy meat. The red beans and rice had good flavor and enough meat to satisfy. It tastes great with the cornbread. Pro tip: order a second thigh. You won't regret it. all the flowers for Five O Four

On the flip side, the Shrimp Po' Boy I got at Strut & Dorothy was sensational. Usually when the Armadillo Den is packed out like it was last Saturday for the Spurs and Knicks Game 5 plus a World Cup Saturday, these food trucks parked inside are buzzing trying to get as many orders out as possible. Though it took a while to place an order with the huge line, once my order was placed, it was ready very shortly after. The guy running the truck apologized for the wait, which felt unnecessary because they seemed to be on top of it, but I appreciate the kindness and customer service nonetheless. Pricing is about what I expected for a food truck: $14 po' boy and $7-8 for fries served with ranch or bleu cheese. The po' boy with all the fixings was exactly what I needed to calm my hunger and nerves while watching the Spurs collapse. It wasn't the glorious night I wanted, but the po' boy was the bandage on the wound. RIYL: The most impressive seafood served in a food truck in Austin

I sat down yesterday to eat a $13 lunch special: brown stew chicken, rice and peas, steamed…read morecabbage, and plantain, and bit into a piece of chicken that was refrigerator cold. Not lukewarm. Cold. I bit it a second time because I genuinely couldn't believe it. Meanwhile, the rice was so hot it was still visibly steaming from what I can only assume was a microwave, drowned in a watery gravy I never asked for, next to the old cabbage with solidified liquid. I brought the plate back to the counter, explained the chicken was refrigerator cold, and asked them to reheat it. I'm writing this today with an upset stomach. I wish I could say this was a one-time issue. It's not. I've been trying this restaurant, on and off, for over 15 years, and I kept giving them chance after chance because I wanted so badly for it to be good. I first met the owner when he ran a food truck, before the restaurant existed. I was excited; there weren't many Jamaicans in Austin at the time, and I was happy to support one. The rice and peas was so bad I threw the plate away. Years later, I tried the restaurant location. I ordered curry goat, took it to my car, and found the meat flavorless, fatty, and poorly trimmed; basically inedible. I threw it away in the parking lot. I later ordered oxtail through Uber Eats: flavorless again, poorly prepped meat, and an actual rock in the rice and peas. I tried introducing the child to Jamaican food with one of their beef patties, and it was dry and flavorless. Yesterday I ordered the "safest" thing on the menu, brown stew chicken, specifically because I no longer trust myself to spend real money on anything more ambitious here. I still got food that had clearly been microwaved and reheated unevenly, served with a piece of chicken that was still cold. Are we really selling microwaved leftovers out of an established restaurant with a huge kitchen? Jamaican food is something our culture takes real pride in. This restaurant has had a decade and a half to get it right, and instead I've watched it consistently cut corners on seasoning, on prep, and now on basic food safety. I don't say this lightly: if you want real Jamaican food, this isn't where you'll find it, and depending on the day, what you're served may not even be handled safely.
