Still the best place I've been to in Austin that serves New Orleans cuisine. This is coming from a New Orleans native.

Beef & Shrimp pasta so good!

We had to kill time in Austin so hubby decided to try the French Quarter since it was on his list and close to our destination. It did not disappoint! We did not make reservations, I'd advise you to do it. However it was worth the 40 minute wait. The restaurant is very cozy with low lights. Great for a date or dinner party. We skipped the appetizer since we were running late but we will try one the next time. They bring you large flakey rolls and seasoned butter. Hubby had the catfish ponchatrain with red beans and rice and carrots. I had the beef and shrimp pasta with a brandy cream sauce. The food was so good! Our server Brooke was great. She made sure that we had everything we needed and our experience was good. Hubby ended the meal by getting the blueberry cheesecake and key lime pie to go. However, as we waited, another customer told us that the bread pudding was excellent. Then another customer told us that the chocolate cheesecake would give the bread pudding a run for its money. But as we sat and watched, several tables had the blueberry cheesecake brought to them to go. So I'd say leave room for desert!

This has been on my list for quite some time and finally made it! The close a tad early, 9pm on a Friday night and we arrived shortly after 8pm. Got the ecargot, calamari, blackened Redfish with veggies and parmesan mashed potatoes with my friend getting the shrimp and steak pasta. Escargot was good, only recommendation is to add more garlic! Calamari was the main part of the squid, no tentacles on the plate and fried perfect with a great coating/breading. The blackened RedFish had a lemon cream sauce that was unbelievable, I wanted to lick the damn plate afterwards. Everything went in that sauce, the veggie, potatoes and fish. Sadly none of the desserts caught our eye and we left a few after 9pm. Overall great service with friendly disposition and she was kind to give a bit of background knowing this was our first time visiting. Vibe was chill and laid back, not too busy but the bar did perk up a bit after we arrived. Seating was comfortable and the music fit the vibe. I'd definitely go back to try other items cause that sauce has me thinking when I'll be out that way again.

Came back for a celebration with my dear friend! This is out go-to place always. Scott is an amazing host and we're regulars here. The flavors are always top notch and the ambiance is fabulous. I ordered the shrimp salad as I've never had if before, I'm never disappointed with any choice in this restaurant, everything is cook amazingly. I've coming here for years and will continue making this one of my favorite restaurants.

My friend's been wanting to try French Quarter Grille, and I've been meaning to visit again, and I definitely had a much better culinary experience this time around! The dishes are really fresh, and the seafood is so delicious. Service is great, but I feel like they came around so often that our dinner conversations were constantly interrupted. I really enjoy the house bread and seasoned butter, and my friend's fish entree was so buttery and soft. I really like oysters Rockefeller, and they fry the oysters so well! I think they might have accidentally given me the wrong pasta dish because I was expecting noodles (I'm pretty sure that's what I said and ordered), but the stuffed pasta was still quite good even though I am not typically a stuffed pasta fan. Overall, great experience and great flavors! I can tell why French Quarter Grille is rated so highly.

French Quarter Salmon (prosciutto, crab, basil pesto, tomato), Veggie de Jour (yellow squash, zucchini), dirty rice

We nabbed a bite at this place after a movie. The interior has dark brown tones. The staff explained the menu to us as it was our first time eating there. Parking was straight forward, as it is in a strip mall kind of plaza. To access the bathrooms, walk past the bar. I was excited to see escargot on the menu, since I like a good snail. It was garlicy, buttery, parmesany, and excessively salty, so it was not as enjoyable as it could have been. I did, however, mop up the excess garlic butter cheesiness with some bread. For mains, we got the Catfish Portchantrain and the French Quarter Salmon. Catfish Portchantrain: This was great, savory, with a slight spiciness to it. Got it with mashed potatoes, and the veggie of the day which was zucchini and yellow squash; no complaints about those. Would order again. French Quarter Salmon: I can't say the crab bits with chopped tomato were particularly appetizing. The salmon was nicely cooked. It also came with basil pesto and prosciutto slice. Opted for the dirty rice and the veggie de jour (the zucchini and yellow squash). Definitely a step down in flavorful fun from the Catfish Portchantrain. Dessert: Orange Creme Brulee -- creamy, orangey. Sugar-wise, it was at the sweet spot. Overall thoughts: I would return to this restaurant if I happened to be in the area. Does the food occupy a pleasant space in my mind? Sort of. But not enough to keep me coming back weekly. I think, though, this is more of a once-every-three-to-twelve months kind of place, unless there are some hidden gems on the menu. With that said, I'll make a note to come back and try some of their other menu items.

First time visit and it was just OK. We didn't have a rsvp, so we waited about 20min to be seated. The waiter was nonchalant about everything he did-I guess he didn't really wanna be there...IDK. He brought us rolls to start, but there was only two in the basket...hmmm!!! So, of course, we had to ask for more. I ordered the Catfish Gumbo and overall, it was good. I couldn't fathom why they put the (side) sautéed squash/zucchini in the same plate as the main course-especially because it wasn't apart of the entree. My lady ordered the Catfish Pontachatrain-she said that it lacked that classic "cajun N.O spice." She also ordered the Bread Pudding (which is her fav dessert) she said the temp was lukewarm, and it was missing a crunch element (walnut/almond

My first time here for lunch. It's been on my To Do list for years. I was there for a group lunch. We had fried green tomatoes for appetizer and fried crawfish. The green tomatoes were amazing! The breading, topping were fantastic and completely delicious. Definitely recommend it as an appetizer. The fried crawfish were perfect and could be a great entree. I love fried crawfish and these easily were great tasting. I had the catfish gumbo that comes with shrimp and crawfish gumbo, veggies of day and red beans and rice. This dish was as delicious as any dish I ever had in the outstanding NOLA restaurants. Definitely hits the right spot for amazing Cajun seafood! Great service and cozy atmosphere. I definitely recommend this place and will be a return guest.

aisse les bons moments rouler - let the good times roll in French! Surprise...date night with my wonderful! As comments Mardi Gras, what better place to go to other than the French Quarter Grill. Since it was a spontaneous gesture, we did not have reservations. We had a relatively short wait of 20 minutes. So, we sat at the bar. My husband drinks very little. I opted for a margarita. It was strong and most delicious! The service was top notch! The owner, Scott came over several times to talk to us while we were in the bar. He was super friendly and personable. Our server Sarah was the server we've experienced in quite some time. She visited our table many times as New Orleans friendly. The French Grille has NOLA (New OrleansLouisiana) feel...

Came here for a work lunch yesterday and I love this spot! My stepdad is from New Orleans and makes the best gumbo and red beans and rice and I think he would definitely approve of this spot. We shared the fried green tomatoes and calamari as an appetizer and both were great but the calamari was excellent. I ordered the catfish gumbo and chose red beans and rice for my side and everything was fantastic. Awesome flavor, you can tell they take their time making this food. Service was great! Our waitress was very kind and did a great job accommodating our larger group. The inside of the restaurant is nice as well, good seating and a cozy vibe. Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic New Orleans food.

This is hands down the real deal high-end French Cajun food! The servers are top notch and know their stuff! Always the same staff and consistent delicious food. If you have not tried this place you are missing out! If you're not a seafood lover, get the blackened ribeye OMG it's heaven. Reasonable prices for a higher end night out!

    Elia Y.

Environment is nice, but the food quality is disappointing. The crawfish étouffée was stinky and tough, the side vegetables were clearly frozen, and both the flounder and shrimp tasted old and reheated. Everything felt like pre-cooked frozen food. Definitely overpriced for the quality.

Great food. Excellent selection of seafood as well as red meat. Complementary rolls were fresh from oven and delicious. Service frequent but not hovering. 1 steak, very tender. Trout with shrimp also excellent. Fish of yhe day delightful. Even godd fries and chicken stripe for our 2 year old. No time for dessert but they looked fabulous.

The salad bar was sparse with limited choices, and nearly everything being served on Styrofoam makes the entire place feel cheap and dated. Service was adequate but nothing memorable. Nobody was rude, but there wasn't much attention to detail or hospitality either. What really stood out was the condition of the facility. The restroom looked neglected, and the sink was partially detached from the wall. When customers see maintenance issues that obvious, it raises questions about the overall upkeep of the restaurant. I don't expect fine dining from a catfish buffet, but I do expect decent food, a clean facility, and some pride in presentation. Aside from the fryer oil being in good shape, there wasn't much here that would make me want to return. Pros: Clean-tasting fryer oil, food served hot. The fish seemed slim in comparison to the whole of the "Maines" entree. Jalapeño slices accompanied for some pizzazz. The sauce was flavorful and left no shortage of drips. I chose the side of fries. Perfectly made and absolutely screams fresh cut & fried. There's only one problem with them. They tasted fishy. That's because they fry them in the same fryer as the fish is fried. Not my kind of expectation with perfectly golden crisps. I would advise using a stand alone fryer for potatoes only please. Knox my server was very kind and hospitable & we enjoyed talking about the best hot sauce in the world which is found here, Belize's Marie Sharp's. That's a real winner to accompany your meal. Garbo's is classy but to get lobster which is what they're known for, you're going to have to pay for it. It was unfortunately a higher ticket item than I was willing to go for. The shrimp was great plum and juicy. I felt like the batter was a little too thick and the batter didn't have any flavor in it. The flounder was good, but the fish was dry. I wish for the price point. The fish was a little thick thicker in meat. It was slightly sweet white meat so that was good. The chicken wings honestly are really good. Sadly... this wasn't that experience. I ordered the boil with a pound of crab, head‑on shrimp, squid, corn, and those thin little sausage slices you see at most Cajun spots. The seasoning landed squarely in the middle -- not offensive, not impressive, just sitting there like it was waiting for someone to give it direction. I asked for hot, but what I got tasted more like a medium that didn't want to commit. And the shrimp? Head‑on and not deveined. That gave them a gamy, muddy undertone that took away from the whole boil. At this price point, deveining shouldn't be a luxury add‑on. We also tried the appetizer sampler -- calamari, egg rolls, cheese sticks -- and everything tasted suspiciously similar, like it all took the same little swim in the same fryer without a break. Nothing was terrible, but nothing had personality. These were the kind of appetizers you can find anywhere, and not the kind you remember later. My partner ordered the shrimp po'boy, and while the portion was generous, the breading overwhelmed the shrimp. He ended up peeling most of it off just to get to the actual protein. When the breading becomes the main character, that's a sign the dish needs editing. Now, the mixed drinks? Those were actually good -- balanced, not overly sweet, and honestly the highlight of the meal. And I have to give credit where it's due: our waitress was attentive, friendly, and checked on us consistently without hovering. She did everything right. The food just didn't match her level of service. And look... I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I've had better crab at HEB during crawfish season for a fraction of the price. When your grocery‑store boil is hitting harder than the restaurant version, that's saying something. Overall, Surfing Crab wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't memorable either. For the price and the concept, I expected more depth, more spice, and more care in the prep. This one's a pass for me -- especially when I know I can get fresher, better‑seasoned seafood elsewhere without the premium price tag.
