Curry chicken plate. Jerk chicken plate with amazing cabbage. Beef patty in the back and plantains!
    Claire H.

Winston! Who are you and HOW is your food SO DAMN GOOD? I have to be honest, if someone asked me "what's your favorite cuisine?" I don't think Jamaican would break my top 5. But wow, after last night, it certainly is now a mainstay with us. We had the curry chicken, jerk chicken, plantains, guava cake, and the heavenly beef patty. Not exaggerating, every BITE was 10/10. I had flavors that I've never had before but the warmth and love from the food was as nostalgic as your grandma's cooking. The homemade hot sauce-- divine. You can just tell this place cares and takes pride! Until I get back here, I'll be telling everyone in ATX about my new favorite spot.

Burnt chicken and rice and peas.....that is what the jerk chicken taste and smells like. I ordered it to go and when I got back to my place the smell overtook the house. My daughter who is young and usually eats some of whatever I'm eating would not even eat the food. She tasted it and spit it out. I could barely finish the food. My wife ordered the curry chicken with rice and peas and it was a bit better. However, the food lacked authentic Jamaican taste and seasoning. It lacked salt and rice tasted burnt. Jamaican rice is usually a Shelly style of rice and this was not. I would like to think this was maybe an off day and possibly because it was close to closing time it may have been the bottom of the pot. (If it was it should have never been served) But on a lighter note, the portions were more than generous. The cashier was very pleasant and the venue is very unique. So all in all, if your looking for a Jamaican vibe it's not a bad place to visit but if you know real Jamaican food and your a foodie this one ain't it.

Laid back spot in S Austin w gtop notch service before you even get to the food. Tasty options Had a lil of everything. Beef patties were flavorful w a light flaky crust. Snapper was well seasoned and cooked, crispy outside , light and tender inside ( my fav ) offered in 2 sizes. Curry was light yet flavorful. Jerk Chicken was on point. Had wings as well, a lil dry could have just been an off day no problem tho for the price ( next time ) . I was warned of the level of spiciness, but they could have kicked it up a notch or 2 for me. But you can get Mr Winston's saice on the side a def must. Also bottled and sold $4/ bottle. All in all a good visit w many more planned. Thank guys

From the food to the service and vibes everything here was amazing. Tried the jerk chicken plate and fried plantains for the first time and loved both.

Ordered Curry Chicken plate Beef Patty Food was delicious but wait was long. Almost an hour and the way the food was pictured isnt how it was served. We thought the food would come with cabbage (as pictured) but it didnt so we had to ask for that additional but it was delicious. Winston the owner and chef was friendly welcoming. The place is in a food truck area near the Barn bar which plays live music and has outdoor seating and free parking. Found a hidden gem in South Austin

Got the jerk chicken & a side of plantain. I was surprised how amazing the plantain were considering there aren't many reviews about them? So good I would legitimately come back for 5 orders of plantain. Called ahead & got it for take out, by the time I got home the food was still piping hot & perfect condition! The jerk chicken order was okay, I didn't get sauce bc I thought it would come w a small amount/thought the spiciness in the reviews was also from seasoning. I typically like spicy food, the chicken alone wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be so would recommend getting the sauce if you're into that. I'll probably order the curry chicken next visit. Portions were very well!

Jerk Chicken Plate, Beef Brisket Wrap, side of plantains.

The food here was DELICIOUS. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate and Brisket Wrap with a side of plantains. The chicken had a flavorful, smoky crust with tender and juicy meat inside. I savored every bite. The brisket was tender which paired nicely with the crispy red cabbage and chewy outer wrap. The plantains were sweet and salty, a nice accompaniment. We will be back.

Tons of meat in the jersey chicken wrap.

My original review used the term jersey chicken. I don't know what that is. Probably spell check error. It should have been jerk chicken.

I got the jerk plate (two drumsticks and a thigh it could use a tad more seasoning) that comes with cabbage and rice and peas. Cabbage was a little different then what I'm use to but the whole plate was legit! If you go and you open up ur box and notice that there's no jerk sauce, (I was heated) don't be alarm they put it on the side (two of them). Next time when I come back I am going to order the red snapper. I hope they add beef pattie with coco bread and cheese and Oxtail plate.

What is the best time to go on the weekends? Gone up there a few times after 11 am when it says they're open and they aren't.

Hi Briana, I would say wait until 12 or 1. They should probably change their open hours until later but you could call first (512) 541-6282 to check.

Wild Boar Pepper Pot: Very rich, deep and flavorful tender boar, it just broke apart without the need f a knife. A bit on the heavy side, so I wish I had ordered a light vegetable to balance it out. Roti: the roti was perfect to go with the wild boar. I scooped up the tender boar with it, and also wiped the plate clean of the sauce. Coca-Cola: I was a little hungover so this was needed!

We started with the jerk beef patties which were not patties at all; they were empanadas served with perfectly spiced dipping sauce. The wild boar pepperpot is amazing and the casareep sauce is unlike anything I've had before. This dish is just meat so you should also order a side dish. The geera is so dang good - so many cool flavors including the apple chow butter. I licked the bowl clean. This dish had squash in it. The cabbage was layered with flavor and I enjoyed the light sweetness the raisins contributed. We ended up adding in the roti bread because both main dishes had sauce that warranted bread. The dessert was a peanut butter ice cream bar covered in dark chocolate. Our waiter described it as an elevated Snickers bar and it was the perfect description.

I went for a regular oxtail plate with gungo rice and plantains. Overall I liked it! The oxtail was tender and delicious, the sauce had a nice mix of smoke, sweetness, and a tiny bit of heat. For a regular (as opposed to their large) size plate it felt like a good amount of oxtail I thought based on the description the gungo rice would have a more prominent coconut taste but it was pretty typical Jamaican peas and rice. The star of the plate was the oxtail and the sides don't really factor into my review unless it really stands out in one direction or the other Overall I'd definitely recommend giving them a try and will absolutely be back here to try more of their menu

I have been wanting to try Bikkle Jamaican Restaurant for some time now. Friends were coming into…read moretown and wanted Jamaican food. Ding ding!!! We decided to eat at Bikkle, close to the University of Texas at Austin on Guadalupe Street. Bikkle is known for its authentic Jamaican cuisine such as jerk chicken, oxtails (hard to find anywhere anymore) and curry goat. Between the four of us, we ordered jerk chicken, curry goat, and curry chicken. We all went for red beans and rice with cabbage. All dishes came with plantain, which is one of my favorites. Having been to Jamaica a couple of times, I can report out that this food is authentic! The flavors were swirls of goodness in every bite. The food was also warm when served. We also ordered jerk chicken egg rolls. Just think about that concept for a minute. The jerk chicken egg rolls were exceptionally good. The highlight for me was the curry goat. First, you do not find goats on many menus. The curry goat was tender and oh so flavorful. Some pieces had associated fat. All in all, everyone was happy with their meals. During our dinner, only one person was serving customers. She was super friendly and personable. I must think she was overworked as the stream of customers came in. Now for the décor...if you walked in and looked only at the counter, you would have thought it was a "to go" restaurant only as many "to go" containers were stacked high on the counter. Only one other couple sat down and ate in the restaurants and most folks were picking up their food to go. Even the people eating inside the restaurant were served in "to go" containers. The inside is minimalist with no ornate furnishings and yellow walls, projecting a Caribbean feel. Recommend adding a bit more Jamaican artifacts such palm trees, Jamaican flag, surfboard, etc. It would be a great spot for students, friend meet ups and a causal date night... Bikkle Jamaican Restaurant it was great and represented authentic Jamaican food well! We definitely will be returning.

We thought the place was closed, because there was no one in the front either. We ordered the jerk chicken wing that came with 4 pieces and my husband ordered their jerk pork. Both regular. Plus a bottled water at $2; total came out to be ~$42 with tip. Plate came with the meat with plenty of jerk sauce, seasoned rice with beans, steamed veggies, and 2 plantains on top. It was a bit on the saltier side. The rice was seasoned and the veggies were good. The jerk sauce however, was really spicy. So spicy that it made my lips turn into that really nice color and made my husband hiccup (but he's not very tolerant of spicy foods). My wings were cooked perfectly, like off the bone perfect. The jerk sauce itself wasn't my favorite though. It was very dark and tangy, and had one ingredient/flavor that overpowered everything else... but it could just be a personal preference at that point. We've been to 3 other jerk places in Dallas and CA, and all 3 places had their own take on the jerk sauce, which tasted pretty similar so we were used to that. The jerk sauce in Dallas, though, is more on the sweeter side, like they put bbq sauce in it or something. Overall, definitely seemed like more people came for take out instead of sitting in. The workers came off a little unfriendly and customer service could use a little work. A customer came in while we ate our food and he waited a good few minutes and had to ring the bell in order to get someone to help him out.
