This adorable little food trailer is part of a little food trailer park off to the side of the South Shore AMLI. All of the burgers looked delicious and I really wanted mine to taste as good as it looked. I had the Rise n Shine and because I came right before the evening dinner rush, my burger was out in a matter of minutes. I'm not really sure what was off about my burger because the egg was fine and I liked the spicy mayo it had on it, but I think it may have been the beef patty itself just had an odd flavor (I don't think it was bad, it was just a little weird) and the bacon was a little too fatty and not as crispy as I would have liked. So, while not a bad burger experience, it was not a memorably great one. The tater tots and the BBQ ranch are a totally different story! The tater tots were perfectly crisp on the outside and just tender enough on the inside and could stand on their own w/o a dipping sauce; however, the BBQ ranch was a game changer (I put some on my burger as well)! The tots and BBQ ranch were made for each other and should I ever return, I think I will just do a double order of these and call it a day! Daniel, the owner, was very gracious and quick to get my order out and as the crowd picked up, he seemed to be keeping up w/the orders fairly well. Since Trev and I were splitting they cut it in half for us. The bun was nice and gooey and the cheese was wonderfully melty. The patty was cooked well done and very peppery. The bacon was good, and I loved the bites that had the fried pickles in it. However, the flavor was pretty monotone. It needed more acid or a sweet note to balance out the saltiness of the meat and cheese and bacon. I think BBQ sauce or mustard would have been a good addition (not together). III. The Fries/Sides The tots were lightly fried and very good. It comes with BBQ ranch, which was really yummy! IV. Miscellaneous This place is a little food stand in the South Shore Eatery on Riverside Drive. So it is outdoor seating only, but it's nice that they have shade. It is certainly a thick medium well cooked burger (preferred). It is certainly a greasy burger but the beef certainly sets it apart. You just taste that great seasoning in every bite of the beef, it is a great mixture. It is really some of the best burger seasoning I have had. I added bacon, grilled onions and avocado to mine. Also had several cheese choices, I went with pepper jack. Bacon was thick and crisp. Grilled onions were thin and delicious. It just has a fantastic flavor with their beef. Multiple kinds of cheeses. Also had sweet potato fries. They tasted alright, and got a good portion for $2. I really dig the $3 Japanese style onion rings. Sliders have special buns, and the full size bun is toasted. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The meat is outstanding: its flavor is juicy, and exceptional in quality. Everything is made fresh too. I decided to try the spare tire, which I would have thought would be deathly heavy, but it really wasn't nearly as greasy as I thought it would be. Melty cheese, bacon, fried pickles and 2 patties sound like it'd be really heavy (which it is) and you feel the grease a bit but for bro night, can't beat it. The sides are really good too: I recommend the sweet potato fries or the onion rings (very thickly battered, panko coated chunks of goodness). The corn dogs are ok - for the high quality meat in the burgers, I would have though they'd come out with better quality hot dogs for the mini corn dogs, but small gripe at best. This place really blew me away. I've seen the rave reviews, but I'm overwhelmed by the number of food trucks in Austin so it's tough to be impressed by any one of them these days. Without being too descriptive, I'm going to break it down to my favorite parts. First and most important, the food. I got a double patty burger with bacon and cheese. Unless I'm getting a veggie burger, I generally shy away from any toppings other than meat, cheese, and maybe a little ketchup. With this setup, the fresh and well seasoned burger really popped. There's a presence of garlic that complemented the other seasoning very well. As important as the meat, the bun knocked it out of the park. It's soft and buttery in a way that adds to the burger without being a distraction. The tots were tasty, but were pretty standard tots. The other thing that really impressed me about this place was how nice the owner was. He asked our opinions of the burger and genuinely seemed curious about how his burgers matched up with others in the area and how he could improve. He answered some questions we had and overall was a pleasant chap. Customer service always goes a long way in my book. This burger place is a pretty unassuming food truck in a large parking lot but packed a big punch for what I expected. I actually really liked it, so much in fact I brought my husband back to try Cow Bells within the next couple of days. This visit I got the Rise and Shine Burger. My husband and I both got it and shared a basket of tater tots The burgers were both gorgeous when they came out. I loved the colors of everything. I put everything together and then on my first bite it was so good and then all of sudden - plop! Egg yolk down the front of my shirt :( ... oh well it was my fault ... I really didn't care too much because what was in my mouth was great! Plus egg yolk comes out in the wash easy! I also loved the seasoning he is using on the tater tots and fries - both were great too! FYI - he has a punch card where you eat 12 burgers you can get a free one and side of your choice for free! The veggies were fresh and crisp, the wheat bun was cute, but the vegan patty was lacking something. I kept trying to put my finger on it, but finally decided it didn't have that homemade touch. The owner, Daniel, and I spoke about it, and a homemade vegan patty is in the works. Great experience today at Cow Bells. I've had this place bookmarked on Yelp for over two years. Damn glad I finally made it and can't wait to go back. A burger is a hell of a sandwich. So many things can go wrong or right depending on quality, add-ons, condiments, cooking style and seasoning. This burger is love between two buns. I tried a classic cheese burger and will eventually try them all. Definitely passed the love of burgers test today.
