Tons of picnic tables, a big bar for drinks, and even a little fountain you can sit by. Great place to hang out. I ordered the smash burger. It was... fine. Not bad at all, just not in my top tier of Austin smash burgers. The patty came out in pieces, which happens when it gets smashed a little too thin. Totally edible, still tasted good, it just didn't have that cohesive patty feel or the crispy lacy edges I like. I ordered through the QR code on the table, which told me it would take about 30 minutes, but it was ready in 10. Not complaining, but it's always funny when the system just picks a random long estimate and then surprises you. Fries were adequate, nothing memorable. Service was okay. I asked for a side of their special sauce, and the guy looked totally baffled, like no one in the history of burgers had ever asked for sauce on the side. Someone else behind him finally said, "I think he means the Biggie sauce." Now I know what to call it if I ever return. Overall: decent burger, not amazing, but Armadillo Den itself is a great hang. One of my shortest Yelp reviews ever: I was at the Armadillo Den celebrating my friend's birthday and wanted a bite. Their fried pickles sounded pretty good. That's all I ordered, and I got a monster-sized serving of fried pickles. I was thinking I'd get a small cup because that's the food truck way, but there was plenty to go around and I was very satisfied, even with letting all the people around me grab some as well. Not sure if it was the pre libated taste buds speaking but this smash burger was all that you would hope for in a smash burger. Flavor, juiciness, and the right amount amount of pan crisp if ya know what I'm sayin'. The bread mashed perfectly with each bite and didn't at all steal the show. Ordered the Jesus Chicken Nuggets when I visited Cosmic Café with a friend, along with the mozzarella sticks. The nuggets were really nice, fresh, piping hot, and coated in nicely seasoned breading. The breading actually reminded me of the kind used for bento-style popcorn chicken in Taiwan, which was a fun surprise. I had expected more of a boneless wing-style breading, so this was unexpected in a good way. I was really happy with the portion size. I'll admit, as someone who prefers white meat, the chicken started to feel a little greasy about halfway through. The dipping sauce added a nice creaminess that balanced out the drier breading and gave the flavor a good kick. The mozzarella sticks were great. I feel like I bought food at the state fair. I paid a lot of money for something small and pretty greasy. It didn't taste bad. But the food definitely didn't look like the pictures. Burgers were decent but what ruined my experience and meal was the service I received. I walked up with no one in line and one behind me. The woman got up and in a monotone and bothered tone asked what I was having. I ordered two doubles, a single and fries. I don't know about the menchaca location but the food truck located in cosmic gave me the lamest chicken burger I've ever had for the steep price of $16, excluding any sides. The burger was tiny, came with a slab of chicken, pickles, and Cole slaw, and that's it. Total waste of money knowing I could've gotten the same thing from p Terrys down the street for less than half the price, and it would've came with a load of fries and a drink.
