Austin's best old school burger! It's an austin tradition to eat here. There was a time when Dan's was THE burger. You may have had a handful of choices in the early 80's and Dan's was the reigning king of fresh angus beef burgers. The food and service is always just right. I do miss the salad they removed from the menu during COVID and I don't visit them once a week like I use to, since a salad with my burger is a must (can't eat fries every visit ). I finally made my way to Dan's Hamburgers and now see why this place is an institution in Austin. I won't pretend to know all the gossip from back in the day between Dan's and Fran's but what I can say is walking into this place is like being transported back in time, in the best way. I was not expecting the diner vibes and overall charm this place brought to my day, but it was welcomed! Their staff was very friendly and made it feel a step above the typical fast food ordering experience. Same goes for the food. It's no Jewboys but that's the point right? It's a better, local option compared to your Burger Kings, McDonalds and even (gulp) Whataburgers of the world (TX don't hate me for that last one, but I'm going to Dan's!) Austin animal center promised me a cute puppy and when I went to pivmck up the puppy, they would not let me take him home. I was heart broken and still am heart broken. A stupid unprofessional prune face manager was very cruel and mean hearted who stuck by her decision and wouldn't let me have the puppy no matter what I said. If They want good homes for their dogs they should NOT treat their customers this way. This was very hurtful to me and I'll NEVER adopt a pet from them because of this experience. The chocolate shake was epic! When I reached home and was able to take a bite of the burger, it was good. The bun is nothing special. Just something I could buy from a local grocery store. The burger itself was good in size and seemed to be quality beef. I ordered it with everything and it was delicious but it wasn't the best burger I've ever had. Overall... it's a burger. If I was nearby and hungry, I would probably try again but dine in. The whole point of the drive thru is convenience and speed. No speed going on at this place. Dan's Hamburgers has been a fixture for me since 2001. As a 12 year-old, I'd beg my mom to take me on the way home from my piano lessons. Austin has changed, I've grown up and moved away, but Dan's has stayed consistent. I visit Austin 2-3 times per year and Dan's is a mandatory visit each time I go. There's something slick about a neon sign and a diner booth that speaks to me. My heart goes aflutter when I finish ordering and the cashier pulls up an old-school microphone to simply say "One Double" for the back-of-house to hear (which might also be caused by my actively-clogging arteries, if we're being real). There's something intrinsically human (dare I say...American?) about the Dan's Hamburgers experience. But the first bite of burger...every single time...it's life-affirming. A bit on the greasy side, but it's the tastiest dang grease I've ever known. You won't go wrong with the fries, straight or curly (I always end up with an "oopsie" curly in my bag of straight fries anyways). There has never been a place to go for a simple "burger and fries" that tops Dan's for me. 5 stars. 10/10. My favorite burger. read more

Dan's Hamburgers is a local icon and I've been eating there for years. It's always a good hamburger that's for sure. But, you must eat it fresh. If not, it quickly turns into a hamburger puck. That means you most likely need to dine inside. It's a standard fast food seating type of place so not comfortable. But as least it's fresh. The fries and onion rings are tasty, hot, but tend to be on the greasy side. There's A LOT of them though, At the end, an angioplasty is recommended. The service is friendly. Always friendly.
