We have been to this location several times and I am not sure why I haven't reviewed it sooner. Probably because I was too busy stuffing my face. Like all of their locations, I appreciate how good the staff are to us and our little dog when he is with us. Everyone is just so pleasant and nice to talk with. Stopped into Snarf's Sandwiches on South 1st to redeem my birthday coupon for a free sandwich or salad. Snarf's is known for their award-winning menu featuring oven-toasted sandwiches on fresh-baked bread, entree-sized salads, phenomenal soups, desserts and more. They serve premium carved meats and cheeses sliced right off the block, and veggies are chopped fresh every day. There was plenty of parking available out front. The sandwich shop has a fun eclectic vibe and is very colorful. The staff was friendly when taking my order. I ordered the Snarf's salad to-go with turkey, ham, American and Swiss cheese with tomato, onion, hard boiled egg and chopped bacon. I added avocado which was a bit pricey at $2.50. The salad was fresh and crisp and very large portion size with lots of toppings. I had ranch dressing and there could have been more dressing for the salad size. Also would have preferred purple versus white onion. Order came out quickly and was packed and secure. Great value with the birthday reward. I was able to enjoy my salad at home and the portion size was large enough for two meals. Overall, enjoyable experience and one of my favorite sandwich shops! read more

Ordered my meal through UberEats on a work trip and was very happy with what I received. The Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich was excellent and the macaroni salad was enjoyable as well. I moved to S 1st in May, and made it my mission to try as many of the local food spots in the area before I leave. Obviously, Snarf's was high on the list. Appearance wise it's a pretty run-of-the-mill sandwich shop-- relatively bland but gets the job done. The service was about the same, with a slightly deadbeat (but efficient) counter guy taking my order. The price, however, was not run-of-the-mill. Far from it. My 12" Italian Sub, probably the most generic sub I could have possibly gotten, cost me a whopping $16. I thought I misheard Mr. Deadbeat when he told me the bill, but lo-and-behold, there she was right on the menu (which, speaking of, I should have looked at more carefully before ordering). The sub was good, but definitely not $16 good. Next time I'll make a point to try their rueben sandwich. Fingers crossed it won't cost an arm and a leg. read more

I was hangry for a big sandwich and got a lunch order from here (delivery via doordash). We got the Turkey and Swiss and the Italian. The Turkey and Swiss (loaded) was amazing. Toasted bread, huge amount of meat and cheese. Chefs kiss. The Italian was also fully loaded with meat and cheese but for me, I did not like the relish that was used - it had pickled chopped carrots and celery and for me, this was a bit too overpowering. However, that's a personal taste thing not a knock on the sandwich itself, which was toasted and jam packed with meat, cheese and toppings. We also got an order of Mac salad - again, great portion but it was on the sweet side and very "runny". I again, personal preference, do NOT like a sweet Mac salad and prefer it to have a thicker sauce. Overall, great value for money for a sandwich spot but for me some of the flavors just weren't there for me personally so if you're picky with your toppings and sides maybe go in person and see if you can get samples to know if it's right for you. read more

Summary: This place might be for some people, but it's not for me. Details: The big strength is that they offer all the usual and a lot of unusual sandwiches. Prime rib and cheese sounded good, as did mushroom and cheese and French dip. It's also good that they offer three sizes, 5", 7", and 12". However, they don't offer as many vegetables as Subway and Thundercloud do. Also, their prices are higher. In fact, I would have gone to Thundercloud, except that it had closed at 8:00 and Snarf's was still open. I ordered a tuna and provolone on wheat. The person who helped me was pleasant. The wait was somewhat long, even considering that there were two parties ahead of me. I didn't realize until I saw them wrapping the sandwich that they had toasted it. I didn't want it toasted, and they never asked me if I wanted it toasted. Finally, when I got it home, I didn't really like the sandwich. Not only was it toasted, but also the tuna was just flaked tuna meat, not the usual tuna salad (i.e, mixed with mayonnaise). Some people might actually prefer that! However, my mouth was all ready for a normal, typical tuna sandwich, and this wasn't that. I feel this should have been made clear on the menu. read more

Went to Snarf's before the Wait Wait show last week. Oddly, we have a memory of being inside this place before but not eating there. We ordered two sandwiches: the Italian and the pot roast, and they were ready in a reasonable amount of time. What we like best about both of them is that the bread is thinner so you don't get so full from the carbs; it's also really crunchy, so that's a nice dynamic contrast. The Italian was really tasty and we loved how spicy it was, and while the pot roast was good, the pieces of meat were way too large and could have been a bit softer. Still, these are solid sandwiches. Unfortunately, our table was dirty and it was also freezing in there, which was particularly unpleasant on a cold, rainy night. We also feel that $30 for two sandwiches at a college joint is a bit bonkers (this ain't no Turkey and the Wolf!). Anyhoo, we had a nice meal and can see ourselves coming back again even though it took us ten years to get here. 3.5 stars, rounding down, but no bad vibes. Ordered delivery from these guys the other day, as I was a customer of the Snarf's in Chicago for several years before moving to Austin. Unfortunately, this wasn't a good first experience with Snarf's in Austin. not only did my food arrive late / not on par with delivery time, but my Mother Clucker sandwich was completely ruined due to laziness, poor to-go-sandwich-wrapping-paper and packaging. My sandwich was dripping in mayo juice, the bread wet and soggy on bottom. on top of that, the pickles on my sandwich weren't properly cut in half, along with the bread of the sandwich itself (see pictured). both the Mexican Coke and potato salad i ordered were delivered overly warm. the small bag of factory-sealed potato chips that i ordered as an after thought was the only digestible survivor out of my entire order...i also didn't receive utensils, as requested. boo! just, boooo! read more

We'd had this sandwich shop recommended to us by a couple of people and today purchased a 12 inch corn beef and Swiss--$20 with tip. The sandwich was very small, certainly not the 12 inch sub we'd paid for and certainly too small to have cost close to $16 (without tip). There was a decided absence of corned beef and Swiss. The quality of the corned beef was good, but the ratio of meat to the other sandwich ingredients made that quality hard to detect. The mustard was also basically magical, but still not worth the total sandwich expenditure. Save yourself $10 and go to Thundercloud instead! It's actually embarrassing how much snarfs I eat. The sandwiches are hit or miss tbh; I've tried a couple things here and there, but nothing is as good as the ny steak & provolone IMO The sandwich is SO good. I tell everyone I know about it. The turtle brownie is also an 8/10. The employees are all super friendly and helpful and it's been a smooth checkout experience every time.
