The line at this location was extremely long for lunch. I considered leaving, but I had been craving the roast beef with avocado for a while. I specifically drove here to get it. Parking was easy, and the line moved quickly. The servers were efficient as well. However, I noticed that the prices are higher than I would like to pay for a sandwich. One of my favorite local sandwich shops in Austin- they never disappoint. I always order the Office Favorite and it is consistently good! Many options of fresh items to add to your sandwich outside of the norm (ex: bean sprouts, sweet pickles, etc.). The staff are always friendly and provide quick, accurate service. Awful customer service. Every time I order from here it is wrong and the employees could care less. I've had missing items in the order and it's always an issue when it comes to the drinks. They have drinks listed online that they don't actually have in store. Also, major rudeness from the employees... they are not patient and make you feel like an a-hole for correcting them when they did your order wrong. Awful service even more awful customer service. This location has turned into my favorite Thundercloud store, primarily because it's relatively close to my hangouts and the staff here do an awesome job in making a great sandwich and whatever your heart desires. I'm an extra-lettuce-n-onions-n-pepper guy, and they never fail to satisfy me here. The counters are slightly lower here so I can see them assembling their work of art. Never had a bad order here, and if someone does a really exceptional job I'll usually double my order and save one for the next day which keeps well in the fridge. They're generally really friendly and like to engage with the customer, and once in a while you'll get a good suggestion or two. Like on one recent visit Jen was making my Egg Salad sandwich (one of my faves). She goes on to explain how she loves egg salad too, but adds Nada Chicken to it to kick it up a notch. Hmmm, she got my wheels turnin', and I thought about it...... I do love their Nada Chicken (vegetarian) but haven't had a while.....OK! Jen's convinced me. let's do it. She was like "that's so cool - - trust me you'll love it" and sure enough, it was DA BOMB!! I went back 3x that week and ordered Jen's EggNada sandwich - - awww yeah it was off the hook! You can't beat their weekly specials, there are several sandwiches here that are awesome such as: NY Italian, Office Favorite, Nada Chicken, Pastrami, and Meatball just to name a few. I went in close to 6pm on a Sunday evening. There was only one employee who was actually making sandwiches. Three people in one party were ordering ahead of me and two people waiting behind me. I stood there for about ten minutes before I finally gave up and went to Subway. It wasn't like the guys were ordering twenty sandwiches. So unbelievably slow, but that's nothing new for Thundercloud. On my way back from Subway, I noticed that the person behind me was just ordering. Worst/slowest service ever. I won't waste my time again. Oh, when I mentioned the poor service to the Subway employee, her response was, "Oh, we get a lot of their customers and they all have the same complaint." Thundercloud Subs definitely doesn't disappoint. I was in the mood for a 6 incher (keep your mind out of the gutter), so I ripped in there at about 1:00 pm on a Friday. I wouldn't recommend hitting this place from the southbound side of the street, because it's a pain in the ass trying to cross South Lamar. There was SO much traffic, I must have had my turn signal on for 5 full minutes. Once I finally did get a chance to turn left, everything was fine... but there were some near misses from oncoming cars that freaked me out a bit. One of the most notable things was their bread. It was fresh, soft and delish! I believe I used the squaw bread as the borders to contain my veggie delight (hummus, cream cheese, avocado, sprouts, cucumbers and more), and it ruled. Next time I'm in the hood, I wanna try the "Nada Chicken." It's a chickenless meat patty, and apparently, it's one of the best features on the menu. read more

That being said, I almost knocked one star off for having the world's most annoying radio jingles. Every time I hear one, I want to drive my car into large objects like walls, oncoming traffic, the closest Thundercloud store, just to put me out of my misery. This Thundercloud got all fancy. Well, fancy for a Thundercloud. The last time I was in here, it was about 2/3s the size. Now, they have expanded a little, and it feels a lot more light, open and clean. They are well staffed and seem to have a system down for keeping the line moving during the busy lunch rush. Thundercloud is extremely refreshing, healthy, and tasty. I hate how each individual ingredient is an extra $.25 while most sandwich shops (like Subway) will add these ingredients for free. However, the SPROUTS at Thundercloud make the sandwich absolutely amazing. Last time, I got a turkey sandwich with tomato, provolone, sprouts, and spicy mustard. Why would I ever go to Subway? I won't. Same order every time. Two large specials on wheat with everything but tomatoes. This takes care of my lunch and dinner. I like some more than others, but this takes thinkng out of the equation and so far my routine has worked. Everything is fresh and the sprouts make the sandwich for me. Not something I ever buy in stores, but I get my fair share of them via TCloud. I like this location as opposed to others due to the employees. Their dialog doesn't seemed forced and they seem to actually care about what I say and how I answer their greeting questions. I would crave these sandwiches when I didn't live in Texas. The S. Lamar location with it's small outdoor area, walk up service and drive-through has always been a favorite to me. I have noticed that the quality of my sandwich is always a little less than the way I like it though. Also, they seem to take care to make my sandwich so that it's not messy (I hate when all of the filling in your sandwich falls out in your lap when you take a bite).
