Classic burger stop right off east 7th street. It's right before the light to webberville so it's easy to get in and out of here. There are two drive thrus out front and couple of picnic tables out front. There's a walk up window as well to order from. They are also open until 11pm weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturdays so if you have a late night craving and want a 1/4lb burger this is your stop. I like their fries - if they are fresh they are like McDonald's but it's kind of a toss up if you will get them hot or cool and flimsy but that can easily be fixed with an air fryer. P Terrys is opening down the street so it'll be interesting with drive thru competition but the style of burger is so different. read more

I have to start by saying this a true GEM of Austin and I don't think it gets the notoriety it deserves. I remember walking to this place when I was growing up and the thing I 100% give them credit for is that they are the same quality of food today as they were back then. When you look at a lot of fast food burger joints that were around back when I used to eat here - Jack in the Box, Wendy's - what they serve today is VASTLY different than what they used to serve back then and a lot of that has to do with cost and speed. Short Stop has managed to keep both of these in check while still delivering a great product and I respect that! Burgers here are phenomenal and the crazy part is you can't compare them to anything because they have their own unique taste. Its certainly better than anything you can get fast-food-wise like Wendy's or Jack in the Box. I've only had P. Terry's once and I'd say this is even better than that. It tastes grilled but not with the overly charcoal taste of say Burger King and all of the lettuce, tomatoes and toppings just taste very fresh. Usually I don't like tomatoes on my burger or onions because people just overdue them and it derails the taste. They have gotten that formula down where when you take a bite it's the perfect blend of everything doing it's part to create a full, unique taste palette. And this one of the only places where I can get a burger and there won't be anything left. Fries are usually also on point. I've always heard good things about the fish but I'm never in town on Friday's when they serve it. But if it's anything like the burgers I believe the hype (and that's rare from me!). The only reason for the -1 is I did see that 77 health score rating which is concerning, especially when they're usually up there in the 90's. Please don't tarnish this gem. I'm thankful every time I come to Austin and this location is still standing and still open for business and I make a point to stop by and do my part to keep it that way, but that also relies on you doing your part as well. read more

I ordered burger without the bun with cheddar cheese and extra onions and lettuce and mayo on the side. Usually I have to salt all my burgers and was annoyed there was no salt package in my sack but to my surprise this burger was seasoned so perfectly I didn't need any salt package. Burger thickness matters to me: often times I crave a well seasoned burger patty with no frills as many restaurants serve super burgers that are too thick and loaded down with curveball flavors. Thick patties trouble me, it's like biting into a huge mound of meat with not enough taste of the burger accouterments. I prefer classic burger style and taste where my meat patty is the perfect thickness not too thin and not too thick. SS serves the perfect burger thickness. Thank you!! This location is fine, unless you are picky about getting what you ordered. Last two times I ordered the All-American Combo (#1, plus an apple pie) and they just gave me the #1. To be fair, they only charged me for a #1. A different time I asked for cheese but didn't get it. Seems like they need a better system than scribbling a few letters on the bag. They are also a good bit slower than the national chains Otherwise, the food is pretty good and prices are fair. My experience at Short Stop was great! I've seen a few of these around Austin and have always wanted to stop by. I'm glad I finally did. I ordered the 1/4 pound #1 and it was delicious. The meat was juicy. I also ordered a chicken slammer and was pleased by the amount of chicken and cheese on the sandwich. I love the vintage look and the affordable prices. Horrible customer service. I came here and the girl closes the window in my face when all I was asking is if they were closed? and the girl starts dancing and smiling in an obnoxious way looking through the window laughing. They didn't answer the speaker or take my order. On my app it says they close at 12 and I came at 11:08. Also I saw there was a lady just before me who had received her order. If they just started closing up they could've just said that or at least not have been rude about it. Worst CUSTOMER Service ever BENITO !!! Was unhelpful, extremely unthoughtful. I did not get my order correct AT ALL THE STAFF THOUGHT I WAS LYING when I had proof of my bank statement showing I was their jus not the RECEIPT. Benito rather me file a complaint than give me a APPLE PIE THAT WAS MISSING FROM MY # 8 meal . At this point it's behind the principle that I paid for something that I didn't get !!!! Everytime I head for Houston, I always head up East 7th & conveniently for me there is one of those cute little Short Stops. They serve a mean burger, fries and coke combo for about 5 bucks. A couple days of the week that is the special as well and it costs only 4 bucks. There is nothing really "wrong" with the place, it is what it is, a little burger shack. I work near by so I stop by from time to time since it's so close. They are pretty quick during the 11 o'clock hour, and I like that they have a functional dumbwaiter. Most of the time no one uses it so I can get in and out pretty quick. I use to get the chicken tenders, they are pretty good, not caked in batter like you get some other places. But I went a few times and kept getting some little tiny things, so I quit ordering them. The burgers are alright. They remind me of ones that I could make if I just went up to the store and got the ingredients myself, which is kinda a plus for me. I give it three stars which yelp says is "A-OK". I would recommend it for a quick bite. read more

I went to short stop for lunch becuase I work downtown and love short stop, though it is several blocks from my job on Guadalupe. I received my order and the fries were super fresh, I ate them before I even got back. When i did get back to work I realized that when I asked for a number #1 with cheeze mayo and onions only, I got back to my job and figured this out because I bitn into a pickle juice soaked bun. Gross!!!! I called and spoke to the manager Anna (she was the one that made the mistake, she would not even take responsibility for messing it up and said that if I wanted anything done abou it I would have to go all the way back right then. I explained how far away that I worked and that my lunch was almost over and did not have enough time. She said there was nothing else she could do, she did not even apologize. she kept saying she did not hear that when I ordered. I called the corporate office twice before I got someone to call me back. I was told it was the owner. he said they have a rule that you have to bring them back the burger and show them so they do not get taken advantage of. Okay..... I am treated like I am out to take advantage of them. He said he woudl talk to the manager but as far as me being unhappy he said nothing else.
