    Frozen Custard Oreo sundae
    Rangie T.

We passed by this place on our way to get beers at Hold out cafe/beer garden and afterwards I wanted frozen custard. So the stipulation was how long the line is and what time they closed. The line was not as long as when we first passed by so we gave it a try. The only comparison I had to Sandy's is Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steak burgers. So I got a frozen custard sundae with Oreo and really, it was just like a McDonald's McFlurry. It also must be the Texas heat, because even at 9:30 in the evening, my custard was melting quick. I had to eat it so fast, it was giving me a brain freeze. The only comparison I can make is Freddy's is thicker and the mix-ins were well incorporated in the ice cream. If i ever get a chance to return, I will try their burgers because they are right next to a Whataburger and Sandy's line was flowing out to the street traffic and Whataburger did not have a line nor did I see a lot of people inside. Sandy's has no dining room and people were eating at the outside tables putting up with the Texas heat. That to me says something.

Wow I love Sandy's! Great hamburgers, fries and icecream especially after a day in the sun. An Austin staple truly. Great prices and good food. If you haven't been, you have to go try it!!

Chocolate dipped cone with rainbow sprinkles

Love a dipped cone from Sandy's! Any time we are walking by or on scooters to and from events, we just have to stop for a chocolate dipped twist cone. I always ask for chocolate dip and rainbow sprinkles, and they tell me it has to be one or the other. I am grateful that they always make an exception and do the dip and sprinkles for me, even if it is messy. This is the cheapest place in Austin. We've also gotten french fries and root beer floats here. My fiance has gotten the burger special before and said the burger was good. Friendly staff and orders come out quick. They even have a drive through and picnic tables in the back. A fun nostalgic Austin staple.

Sandy's is an Austin original. Located on Barton Springs road they have been serving up great eats and tasty treats since 1946. Get a taste of old Austin by ordering a delicious cone, shake, malt, sundae, or float. I came here for a visit with my dad who likes to frequent old Austin iconic businesses when he is in town. In addition to frozen treats, they offer a variety of other food items like hamburgers and fries. Although I have ordered food here in the past, on this occasion we came here for the custard. I had a regular chocolate dipped cone which they are well known for. You can place your order through the drive through or at a walk-up window. There is no indoor seating, but we enjoyed our frozen treats at the picnic tables located in the back of the property. An Austin tradition to enjoy a nice frozen custard on a hot summer day.

Sandy's Hamburgers is a hidden gem! Great quality food with very reasonable prices! I ordered the Cheeseburger Combo with Chili Cheese Fries and a Root Beer for just a bit over $10! This was on a Saturday and believe they had a bit of a special going on, but same same. The food was phenomenal. I went back in line to order the ice cream waffle cone dipped in chocolate, and loved it. It's outdoor ordering and seating with a drive thru option. Sandy's was packed with hungry customers and it was worth the wait. Give this place a try!

Sandy's Hamburgers offers a nostalgic twist on classic American comfort food: burgers and fries. Order at the walk up window and your number is called when the order is ready. They have a surprising number of picnic tables around back (covered). The single patty OG burger felt like too much bun per burger but the double patty tasted like a real burger and was decent. Fries are tasty. Ice cream comes dripping and melts fast. It was difficult to understand the order-taker, and there were a surprising number of 'options' for what feels like a simple selection, making the ordering process confusing. Overall, if you're craving a solid, old-school burger and fries, Sandy's delivers. Just don't expect a gourmet sit-down experience--it's more about flavor and nostalgia than ambiance.

Shocked how this place doesn't have a better rating . I really loved their chili cheese fries . Their seatings are only outdoor , so I recommend to do the drive thru

THE BIG: Located in Downtown Austin (or south of it), right off of barton springs road. Parking lot available. This is only a review of their "famous" custard. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here on a Friday night, walking on barton springs and looking to satisfy a sweet craving. We always drive by sandy's and been curious about the restaurant. It looks very retro and seems like it has some history behind it. Casual walk-up counter line and order is taken pretty fast. We wanted to try the custard since it has a big neon sign of the custard. However it fell short of expectations. It was watery and didn't exude anything extraordinary compared to your normal ice cream cone at a Whataburger or mcdonalds. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the small ice cream cone was $3... Nothing special and it was more milk ice and malt.

The food is incredible, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff truly make this place special. Huge shoutout to amazing team members Ariel and Emily for being so warm and kind. The chef even made our pup Zoloft a pup cup today, which was such a sweet gesture. The lovely woman who helped us during our last visit also gave Zoloft a pup cup, so they've consistently shown kindness to our little family. They even gave complimentary vegan cookies to guests when we arrived (not sure if it was a special promotion, but such a thoughtful touch!). And the ice cream... WOW. Made with lentils, and honestly some of the best ice cream we've ever had--rich, creamy, and unforgettable. Friendly staff, delicious food, thoughtful service, and creative plant-based treats. Mission Burger is a gem in Austin, and we'll absolutely be back again whenever we return to Austin

There is some picnic bench seating if you care to eat there, but each order is ready to take home You can also find a menu and other information posted on the outside. The menu mostly offers burgers, but there are a couple other offerings like a cheesesteak, partner, etc. The staff were very friendly and precessional. I really appreciated that they double checked everything in our to-go bags against what we ordered just to make sure we had everything. Everything was bagged, and the orders had the individual order and special order requests written on top Everything tasted great. The burgers were classic burgers, slightly messy, but very flavorful. The fries weren't quite as crisp as I like, but they were seasoned well and tasty Some tips: Consider ordering online so you can have your meal ready when you arrive The burgers/entrees don't come with fries, so, consider ordering a couple fries to share. One order of fries is more than enough for 2 people to share. To do this just make your meal a combo on the ones you want to have fries. Combos also come with a drink, but it's not a fountain drink it's in cans which they also bag for you Cheers!!

When I chose to eat here, I checked the reviews and there were way more positive reviews than…read morenegative, so I thought the odds were in my favor. The few negative reviews mentioned bland burgers, but the positive ones say these are the best burgers in town. I thought I couldn't be unlucky enough to be in the minority and receive bland burgers, but, boy, was I wrong! NO SEASONING IN THE PATTIES!! Not even salt? If they had just seasoned the patties like they seasoned their fries, my experience would be completely different. An easy 5 stars. But nope. A solid 2, only because of everything other than the patties. We came at around 8pm on a Saturday night and were the only customers, so maybe that should've been a sign. Also the lot felt kinda sketchy in the dark. Idk if I would have wanted to be there alone at night. Food was also ready in 10 minutes, like the guy told us. FRIES: Thick cut, well-seasoned, good. Looked like a steak seasoning on the fries. I liked it, but since they were thick, the center of the fries were bland, unfortunately. Maybe it would've been less noticeable if we ate them right away. Large serving though. My bf and I only got one combo and couldn't finish the fries with each of our burgers. The burgers are big, at 4 inches wide. THOUSAND ISLAND BURGER: I liked it at first because of the thousand island, but for the bites that didn't have it, I noticed that the patty didn't taste seasoned...like at all. I was shocked at how bland it was without the dressing. MUSHROOM BURGER: The mushrooms had no flavor, probably weren't seasoned at all. The burger, overall, was also very bland. Unseasoned patty here too. The ingredients felt fresh, but it was missing the flavor we were expecting. Really disappointing. They gave ketchup packets in the bag, but we didn't remember they were in there before finishing our burgers. It probably would've really helped, but the burgers shouldn't have needed it to be good.
