Chocolate dipped cone with rainbow sprinkles
    Rachel T.

Love a dipped cone from Sandy's! Any time we are walking by or on scooters to and from events, we just have to stop for a chocolate dipped twist cone. I always ask for chocolate dip and rainbow sprinkles, and they tell me it has to be one or the other. I am grateful that they always make an exception and do the dip and sprinkles for me, even if it is messy. This is the cheapest place in Austin. We've also gotten french fries and root beer floats here. My fiance has gotten the burger special before and said the burger was good. Friendly staff and orders come out quick. They even have a drive through and picnic tables in the back. A fun nostalgic Austin staple.

Sandy's is an Austin original. Located on Barton Springs road they have been serving up great eats and tasty treats since 1946. Get a taste of old Austin by ordering a delicious cone, shake, malt, sundae, or float. I came here for a visit with my dad who likes to frequent old Austin iconic businesses when he is in town. In addition to frozen treats, they offer a variety of other food items like hamburgers and fries. Although I have ordered food here in the past, on this occasion we came here for the custard. I had a regular chocolate dipped cone which they are well known for. You can place your order through the drive through or at a walk-up window. There is no indoor seating, but we enjoyed our frozen treats at the picnic tables located in the back of the property. An Austin tradition to enjoy a nice frozen custard on a hot summer day.

Sandy's Hamburgers is a hidden gem! Great quality food with very reasonable prices! I ordered the Cheeseburger Combo with Chili Cheese Fries and a Root Beer for just a bit over $10! This was on a Saturday and believe they had a bit of a special going on, but same same. The food was phenomenal. I went back in line to order the ice cream waffle cone dipped in chocolate, and loved it. It's outdoor ordering and seating with a drive thru option. Sandy's was packed with hungry customers and it was worth the wait. Give this place a try!

Sandy's Hamburgers offers a nostalgic twist on classic American comfort food: burgers and fries. Order at the walk up window and your number is called when the order is ready. They have a surprising number of picnic tables around back (covered). The single patty OG burger felt like too much bun per burger but the double patty tasted like a real burger and was decent. Fries are tasty. Ice cream comes dripping and melts fast. It was difficult to understand the order-taker, and there were a surprising number of 'options' for what feels like a simple selection, making the ordering process confusing. Overall, if you're craving a solid, old-school burger and fries, Sandy's delivers. Just don't expect a gourmet sit-down experience--it's more about flavor and nostalgia than ambiance.

Shocked how this place doesn't have a better rating . I really loved their chili cheese fries . Their seatings are only outdoor , so I recommend to do the drive thru

THE BIG: Located in Downtown Austin (or south of it), right off of barton springs road. Parking lot available. This is only a review of their "famous" custard. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here on a Friday night, walking on barton springs and looking to satisfy a sweet craving. We always drive by sandy's and been curious about the restaurant. It looks very retro and seems like it has some history behind it. Casual walk-up counter line and order is taken pretty fast. We wanted to try the custard since it has a big neon sign of the custard. However it fell short of expectations. It was watery and didn't exude anything extraordinary compared to your normal ice cream cone at a Whataburger or mcdonalds. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the small ice cream cone was $3... Nothing special and it was more milk ice and malt.

Sandy's Hamburgers in Austin, Texas, is a true old-school treasure that's been serving up delicious meals for decades. Conveniently located near Zilker Park, this iconic spot is perfect for a post-park treat or a casual bite while soaking in the Austin vibe. Whether you're stopping by for a quick lunch or a snack on your way to Barton Springs, Sandy's is a reliable go-to for simple, satisfying comfort food. The menu keeps it straightforward, and that's part of its charm. Their burgers are fresh, juicy, and cooked to perfection--no frills, just classic goodness. Sandy's fries deserve special recognition. They're hot, crispy, and irresistibly tasty, offering just the right balance of crunch and flavor. While they may not be gourmet, they're undeniably satisfying and pair perfectly with any burger or hot dog. Another highlight is their rich and creamy frozen custards and milkshakes. Whether you go for a classic vanilla cone or a decadent sundae, it's the perfect way to cool off on a warm Austin day. Sandy's also offers a laid-back, retro vibe with outdoor seating that invites you to relax and enjoy your meal under the Texas sky. They did get part of our order wrong, so some of us had to eat out of sync with everyone else as it was busy. With its proximity to Zilker Park, Sandy's is an ideal spot to fuel up before exploring Austin's green spaces or to cap off an afternoon of outdoor fun. Affordable prices, friendly service, and a nostalgic charm make Sandy's Hamburgers a must-visit for anyone craving classic American fast food in the city's heart.

Located just south of the river, Sandy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers is a neighborhood institution famous for its burgers, fries, and ice cream treats. Open since May 1946, generations of Austinites have cooled down on a hot summer day with Sandy's frozen custard. The last time I came to this establishment was a few weeks ago with The Things. This burger spot has been a 'go-to' for the Things and I for a while. There's nothing like biting into a juicy, tender cheeseburger where the meat is perfectly flavorful, and all your favorite toppings are on it! Good burgers feature hot, juicy, well-seasoned meat. Great burgers go one step further, consisting of fresh, never frozen beef, and seasoned to perfection. What's served at this ATX staple are great burgers. Am I a burger expert? Maybe not quite yet, but I'm definitely getting close! The burgers made here are fresh and flavorful, and as such, those who come here shouldn't expect to place an order and it be ready in minutes. The only disappointment was the ice cream sundae, if you can call it that. A sundae is a type of ice cream dessert made up of ice cream with sweet sauce and a range of toppings such as whipped cream, sprinkles, fruit, and nuts. The classic ice cream sundae consists of vanilla ice cream with chocolate topping, whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry. The 'sundae' I received here was soft serve ice cream with a butterscotch drizzle. I paid almost $4 for this, which is not worth the price point as it isn't a sundae. If you are looking for homemade burgers, this is your place. If you are seeking custard or sundaes, look elsewhere.

If you're looking for a delicious burger with no frills from a local Austin restaurant, this is a great place! This place has been around since 1946 serving old fashion burger, fries, frozen custard, root beer floats, and more. To me, this place reminds me of a childhood favorite in San Antonio called Burger Boy which is not the same anymore so Sandy's gives a welcome dose of nostalgia. Their beef patties are well seasoned, the veggies are fresh, and the buns are soft and fluffy. The fries won't knock your socks off but they're a good compliment to a great burger. Make sure to grab some frozen custard to end with something sweet, I like their root beer floats. The walk up window can get very busy at times but the drive through is usually pretty quick. Overall, a great and historic ATX standby.

Iconic part of Austin that never disappoints. The food is delicious definitely recommend the dipped ice cream cone! And the service was so fast even though it was super crowded! Gives you that vintage Austin feeling that's hard to find anywhere else.

4 stars for the nostalgia and the ability to keep going as an Austin staple since the 1940s. Started by Austin transplants, Sandy's (named after the couple's daughter) continues to stand as the original drive thru for burgers, malt sodas, and soft serve custard. You get exactly what you can expect, and it's reminiscent of quick summer fast-food. For $6, the burger can satisfy (but don't expect the hip smash burgers that are selling for $20+ these days), and on days over 95, the custard WILL melt quick. May have to ask for extra napkins. Caution - there will be flies and grackles, but again, it's a part of the ambiance.

Old fashioned charm, local style, small historical burger shack! It is located really close to the river path,we stopped by for one of their famous chili cheese dogs! 3 bites and gone ' check that box off' delicious.

    Simple menu... I like it!

One order of fries is more than enough for 2 people to share. To do this just make your meal a combo on the ones you want to have fries.
