The Double Meat Cheeseburger is cooked just right, not under cooked or over cooked...just right. It's so juicy and delicious. The bun is soft and toasted on the inside and it doesn't fall apart...good to the last bite. The French Fries are hot, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They taste great. The dipped Ice cream Cone is really good too. The Ice Cream is silky smooth. The vanilla flavor is so refreshing and delightful to the taste buds. Nice way to finish off a good meal. The employee that took my order was very welcoming, polite and friendly. This is kind of a unique place, because they don't have any inside seating, it's all outside. They do have plenty of seating outside and they keep the tables and the grounds clean. You need to be alert, because the birds might try to steal some of your fries. Love a dipped cone from Sandy's! Any time we are walking by or on scooters to and from events, we just have to stop for a chocolate dipped twist cone. I always ask for chocolate dip and rainbow sprinkles, and they tell me it has to be one or the other. I am grateful that they always make an exception and do the dip and sprinkles for me, even if it is messy. This is the cheapest place in Austin. We've also gotten french fries and root beer floats here. My fiance has gotten the burger special before and said the burger was good. Friendly staff and orders come out quick. I had a regular chocolate dipped cone which they are well known for. You can place your order through the drive through or at a walk-up window. My family and I decided to go for a cold sweet at night. We decided to get some ice cream at Sandy's. We drove up and went through the drive thru. They repeated our order back to us and we drove up to the window. At the window they started giving us our cold treats. Unfortunately they heard my order wrong. I ordered a strawberry sundae with nuts. For some reason they thought I ordered a strawberry sundae malt with nuts. When the guy at the window repeated what it was my husband corrected him and he said it would be a few minutes. Not long after he came back with my strawberry sundae. Despite the fact that they got one thing on the order wrong they fixed it quickly. The whole process was positive. Overall it was a positive experience for a night time cold treat. You don't go to Sandy's to have a good old-fashioned hamburger, crispy fries, and a shake. You don't go here to see or be seen. You're going to sit outside or take it home, and in summer in Austin that can be quite miserable if you choose the former. So far as ambiance you get the great outdoors along Barton Springs Road. Service is at the window and you place and pick up your own order. Pretty much the way the fast food industry rolls. They do have a drive-thru and service is pretty fast considering everything is made to order and not stored under a heat lamp. Their speed of service actually amazes me most days. So what's special about this place? I think the thing that makes Sandy so special is its a survivor in an Austin that places like this are getting shoved out of daily. And it goes back to a simpler day and time when places like this were basic yet novel and families would go for a break from the mundane, possibly scraping together every penny they had to do it. Go on a Thursday or Saturday and get a good deal because their combo is specially priced. Then don't pass up any of the ice cream items like their shakes, sundaes, or bowl. Best Burger in Austin? We finally got around to Sandy's and we're gonna be back for SURE! There's something about the old-school vibe of a drive-up, order-at-the-counter burger joint that feels so right to me. We hit it up on a Friday night after enjoying the nearby Barton Springs Pool, technically after their posted closing hours, but their policy is to keep on serving up good eats and treats as long as there's a line! Which is rad, okay? The employees were super duper enthusiastic. It was like they could tell the customers were happy and excited to be there on a Friday night to get some delicious grub and were empathically channeling that energy. Loved it. Line was a little slow, but absolutely no biggie. We were here with a group of friends and we were gabbing to pass the time. (Plus I mean, I needed time to truly decide what I was getting off that menu... everything looked drool-worthy, thus part of why I need to go back, including the affordable prices!!) They've got tables in the rear of the establishment so you can dine outdoors. There's toilets back there too. I got a chocolate milkshake and it was thick and creamy and delicious. There's a drive through which most people use. There's a few tables in the back for eating outdoors. No indoor eating. My friend ordered a burger, fries, and soda for herself. I ordered a corn dog. Our order was together. Sitting down at the tables, we noticed the corndog was not in the bag. The receipt shows it was paid for. My friend returned to the checkout window and was given a corndog, with an apology from an employee. I needed to use the restroom. There's one toilet in the Men's restroom. Having grown up in the midwest, I prefer custard over ice cream and Sandy's makes a nice version. It's creamy yet fluffy without being too sweet, and no ice crystals for a luscious custard texture. There are two basic flavors: vanilla and chocolate. I got mine in a traditional waffle cone although I could have had it as a shake or sundae if I wanted. Portions are pretty huge and prices very inexpensive especially being so close to the city center. The three starts are because of location. Takes forever to get in since there is only one entrance and it's right before the light. You can walk here from the park, that would be easier. The burger was good, nothing spectacular. Got the combo with fries and a strawberry shake. It's a decent size burger and the fries are ok. My shake was good. They have both drive through or you can walk up to the window and eat there on the picnic tables. They do have two bathrooms for customers.
