Authentic Taiwanese fried pork chops just like the one in Taiwan. The fried chops were crispy and well flavored. Right amount of crunch and not dry stall inside. It's what they're famous for in Taiwan so naturally. Wish the portion would be bigger though. The beef noodle soup could've used more flavor and spice but otherwise that portion was actually ample. Popcorn chicken was nice and covered in same spices and flavorings as the pork. Service was nice and courteous even though most of it is done through apps on your phone. Place was designed like a simple cafe but with a lot of overhead foliage. Definitely great for native Chinese and Taiwanese who are used to these kinds of places.
In the Irvine area and in the mood for Taiwanese food, had to come here to try their spicy beef noodle soup and pork chops. Honestly, the popcorn chicken, hit the spot for me, the best I've ever tasted! Customer service was good but some difficulty in communication.
Came by on a Saturday evening, and they were surprisingly not too busy. The interior design is beautiful! They have decorative leaves and vines, and it makes you feel like you are in a nice outdoor space. We were the only customers that evening, and service was quick and attentive. This restaurant has been a staple of Irvine for many years and has been able to survive as it consistently serves authentic Taiwanese food. Taiwanese Pork chop rice bowl (8/10, $16) - The pork chop is extra crispy and remained crispy throughout dinner. I only wish that there was a little more meat. - It comes with sides of rice, broccoli, pickled veggies, and half an egg. - Portion sizes are overall mediocre; you won't leave extremely full, but you will leave satisfied. It is probably not enough to share between two hungry adults. Overall, a staple Irvine restaurant serving authentic Taiwanese food. Great pork chops! It is not particularly cheap, but also not extremely expensive.
Since SF is criminally lacking when it comes to Taiwanese food, pretty much every trip down to OC has to include getting my fix. Typically, that has always included an order of Beef Noodle Soup and/or Braised Pork Rice Bowl (I'm on a never ending mission to find the best of both), but, lately, I've been finding myself craving fried pork chops more and more! So, after randomly coming across Kingchops during my most recent visit, it almost felt like a sign that the world wanted me to come check this place out! From the outside, there may not be much about Kingchops that stands out in any sort of way, but the interior is another story - the decor reminded me so much of some of the eateries/cafes I've been to in Asia. More importantly, though, the menu is pretty interesting. As their name suggests, pork chops are their specialty and offer it as part of several different dishes, but they have so much more to offer. Whether you want something light or heavy, they have a solid selection of classic appetizers, soups, street foods, braised dishes, rice plates, both dry noodles and noodle soups, and dumplings to choose from! -- BRAISED PORK RICE Sadly, this left me feeling super conflicted. On the plus side, the pork was super tender and had a sort of lusciousness to it. On the other, the portion of pork felt light relative to the rice bowl and both some of the pork and the sauce felt rather fatty. -- DRY PORK CHOP NOODLE Ehh...this was fine. Not surprisingly, the pork chop was my favorite part of this dish, as the batter was crispy and the pork was decently juicy. However, while I liked the egg and the noodles, the ground pork was a bit dry and there was a ton of bean sprouts. Even though nothing that we tried impressed us as much as I had hoped, everything was far from awful. A small change here and a tiny tweak there easily could've changed things. Plus, service here is pretty solid, as the workers were friendly and our dishes came out quickly, and the prices are relatively budget friendly, especially for what you get. It's just that, given how it's Irvine, it feels like you don't have to go far to find alternatives that taste the same or better. All in all, I definitely wouldn't mind coming back, especially given how popular Kingchops seems to be and so that I can try a few items in particular, but, in the mean time, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.
Been wanting to try Kingchops and we just happen to be in Irvine to try it for dinner. Parking is relatively easy, but can be difficult with the amount of restaurants and businesses in the plaza. It's a very small restaurant, with limited seating. They've definitely maximized the amount of seating in the place. The wait is relatively quick though. Service is quick friendly. Price is very fair for what you are getting and it's nice. Food wise, definitely get the porkchop rice plate. It's well cooked, seasoned and a good balance with some rice, noodles, veggies, and protein. I would pass on the braised pork rice. The pictures on the menu and on the displays made it look so appetizing, but what came out was just average and not like the pictures. Definitely fell victim to the in-store advertisements. The pork was okay, small portion, but I think it's fair for price. A lot of rice too. The popcorn chicken was also good, good amount of seasoning, well cooked. Portion size was a decent and good snack while you eat. Teas are also good. The black tea in particular is strong and has an herbal grass jelly taste to it, while the green tea is lighter and more refreshing. Good place to eat for a nice casual meal.
Some of the BEST Taiwanese food we've had in Orange County! King Chops absolutely impressed us, and we'll definitely be coming back. The crispy pork chop plate is a MUST-ORDER. The pork chop was perfectly seasoned, super crispy on the outside, and incredibly satisfying. They also give you a generous portion, so you definitely get your money's worth. The braised pork rice was another favorite. The pork was so tender that it practically melted in your mouth, and it paired perfectly with the rice. But the biggest surprise for us was actually the cucumber salad! It reminded us of a kimchi-style cucumber, but we thought this one was even better. It was super fresh and crunchy, with the perfect amount of garlic and a great balance of flavors. The service was also quick, polite, and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Their teas were great too! Overall, King Chops is definitely a spot we'd recommend if you're craving Taiwanese food. We'll absolutely be back!
Solid Taiwanese establishment! The portions are huge and price is reasonable. Pork chop noodle (10/10). Very authentic Taiwanese style pork chop. Just the right amount of breading and meat thickness! I loved the seasoning. Came with pickled radish. Noodle texture was fantastic (little bit of chew) with a lot of toppings--tasted very Taiwanese! Popcorn chicken (7/10). Honestly was a little disappointed, as it lacked the traditional popcorn chicken seasoning. Looks like the restaurant made their own version, which is still good but does not taste the same. Also a bit on the pricier side Service was excellent! There was only one waiter there, but they did an amazing job taking our orders and checking in on us Decor inside looked very modern and did not look like a Taiwanese pork chop rice place (in a good way!!) Located in a mid-sized shopping area with ample parking. Will definitely visit again!
Came to Kingchops on a Wednesday night craving some porkchop rice. The restaurant is quiet and unassuming, I have never heard of it until I found it on yelp the day we went. The staff was kind but we didn't interact much since the ordering in fully online through your phone. Food was alright, I wish the porkchop came out crispier but the tomato egg really hit the spot. For the price, you get great variety on your plate and it's a really satisfying meal overall.
Good experience overall. Their popcorn chicken rice plate was good and simple. Ordering is super straightforward, scan the QR code on the table, place your order, and choose whether you want to keep a tab open or close out right away, then your food comes out. It's quick and convenient. The setup is efficient and low-pressure.
This is my second time at Kingchops and once again I really enjoyed the food. The large portion of food you get for the price is such a good value! The porkchop is so delicious and I love the vegetable sides it comes with. We ordered the green tea and black tea with our meal and they were the perfect compliment. You order through your phone using the QR code on the table and pay up front. The lady working today was really nice and welcoming. She greeted us immediately with a smile and got us water. Great customer service from her. The ambiance in the store is so so pretty with the vines hanging from the ceiling. I should have taken a picture of it but I actually said wow when I walked inside.
The pork chops are crispy and very tasty. The place hasn't been super busy but there were quite a few takeout orders. Service is self ordering kiosk or QR code ordering at the table. The staff are always very friendly and happy. My daughter and I really enjoyed the pork chops here.
This is a great spot if you just want some Taiwanese food that hits the spot. I got the signature beef noodle and the chicken leg rice. The signature beef noodle came with your classic daikon, pickled mustard flavoring, and the noodle was nice and QQ! The chicken leg rice was nice and crispy without being too oily, and the rice typically comes with the minced pork topping which we opted out for since we didn't eat pork. The rice dish also came with a side of seaweed egg drop soup. Great flavors and great portions! I also got a side of jasmine green tea for only an extra $3! The service was nice and quick, and everyone was very friendly! The tables comes with drawers of utensils so you can get them yourself, and ordering is done through the QR code located at each table. Ambiance was your typical casual dining, and had nice music in the background. Definitely give them a try!
This restaurant probably served one of the best popcorn chicken I've had. Always super crispy and well seasoned. We visited on a Wednesday for lunch and the service was pretty fast and welcoming. This time I got the popcorn chicken and rice and it's super well portioned. I believe the sides are switched up everyday or so. Highly recommend the fried pork chops as well.

If you have a craving for Taiwanese pork chops this should satisfy your craving! Their wontons are decent but their meat dumpling (ba oan) misses the mark unfortunately and really can't compare to what you can get in Taiwan We did also get our appetizers out after our main dish came, which wasn't a big deal but something to note. This is order on your phone and pay at the register. Staff is friendly enough but restroom was a little sketchy because it almost seemed like water was not going to come out of the faucet. read more

Not sure whether this Kingchops is related to another Kingchops location in City of Industry, but this Kingchops is supposedly tied to the famous pork chop brand in Taiwan (the first flagship store was originally opened in Ximending, Taipei in 1961 with two locations in TaoYuan and one location in Taipei in 2024). [Parking]: Free and easy plaza parking lot - had no issue finding a spot on Sunday at 1 PM. [Ordering]: For takeout, there's a kiosk machine located inside of the front entrance. For dine-in, customers need to scan the QR code for each table and place an order. After I placed an order via the QR code and the sole waitress brought our dishes out, I asked her about the Yelp check-in offer (free braised peanut). The sole employee did not forget about my free braised peanut (-$6.50 off) and brought the appetizer out later. [Service]: Efficient service, but it was literally one person taking care of all tables and the sole server couldn't respond to our requests immediately. The restaurant should switch from metal spoons to plastic spoons because I couldn't stand the scraping sound from my metal spoon as I attempted to finish my rice bowl. [Menu]: This restaurant specializes in Taiwanese style pork chop. Don't overthink and just order #1 porkchop rice. *** #34 Stinky Tofu ($8.50): One of better stinky tofu I have had in LA/OC - tofu wasn't soggy and Taiwanese kimchi had a good spicy level. It tasted a lot better than Stinky Tofu from Tofu King. #1 Pork Chop Rice (rice bowl with vegetables + pork chop + soup, $15.75): A solid meal option, but I wouldn't call it amazing. 5/5 stars This place just keeps getting better! I came back today and was blown away by how flavorful and crispy the pork chop was -- perfectly seasoned with just the right crunch. The noodles were fresh and bouncy, and the brothless mix had a great balance of savory and umami flavors. You can tell they really care about the quality here. Service was fast and friendly, and the portion sizes are generous for the price. Definitely one of my go-to spots when I'm craving Taiwanese comfort food. My favorite pork chop in Irvine! I love pork chops so it was surprising that I hadn't visited Kingchops sooner. I got their Taiwanese pork chop plate which came with rice, tea egg, two sides and some pickled cabbage. I told myself that I wouldn't eat it all but it was so good that I did. The pork was tender and very flavorful. They also have a smaller plate but you'll want the full size. Also got some stinky tofu and cold cucumbers and learned that I don't like stinky tofu. A hole in a wall restaurant with dank taiwanese food! Kingchops is located in a small plaza on Jefferey, parking is pretty easy. The restaurant interior is small, with table seatings. To order there is a QR code on each table and you add on your phone and order. I got the braised pork with rice ($14) and my BF got the taiwanese pork chop over rice ($16). I also checked in on yelp and received a dish of free boiled peanuts. Braised pork wasn't the best I've had, but it was tender and saucy, not overly greasy and salty. The peanuts were soft and roasted to perfection. I tried my BF's pork chop and it was crispy and full of flavor, also not overly greasy and salty. Portion is huge so it's two meals worth for me. For the price the quality and portion is amazing. The server is super friendly here and service is fast, would love to try out other dishes my next visit! read more

Came here on a Sunday night and tried the pork chop rice, beef noodle soup, and the spicy wontons. My favorite of the three was the spicy wontons. Pork chop rice was solid but didn't like the small soup that it came with. Beef noodle soup was ok. You order through a QR code and they bring it out to you. Service was fine and you get a giant pitcher for water which works for me since I don't need to ask for more refills then. The inside is small and very bright. Doesn't seem comfortable for larger groups but fine for 2-4 people. Overall I'd say go ahead and try for the pork chops and spicy wontons but with so many Taiwanese spots in Irvine, I'd look elsewhere for beef noodle soup at least. read more

QUICK TAKE// I was hopeful to fall in love with this place as a Taiwanese person looking for some nostalgia. In the end the place had solid food, but overall for the prices and the fact that I wasn't fan of the noodle soup, I probably would not come back given other Taiwanese options around in Irvine, CA. FOOD// I got the pork chop rice, wontons, and beef noodle soup which I shared with my boyfriend. Porkchops were delicious, and the little combo of the rice with ground pork and stewed veggies was a nice touch. Spicy wontons were super solid. I wasn't the most impressed with the beef noodle soup - I felt like the five spice powder in the broth was too strong. But all in all food was tasty - but for the price, I probably wouldn't come back again. But left very satisfied. SERVICE// Given that the ordering was through an App, the waiter quickly served us water and utensils and was fine. Nothing standout but just as expected. I heard a lot about the porkchop rice and came to check it out. It comes with soup, rice on the side and a couple other items I didn't eat . The porkchop was delicious. I wish I had more. I also enjoyed the soup. Rice is rice, it's hard to mess that up. I also got the peanut dish with the Yelp check-in. I wasn't impressed with that at all. I wouldn't get it again. Kingchops is a great classical place to get takeout and fried pork chops. The food is super traditional and a good satisfying for Taiwanese craving. The food does get soggy when you get takeout and portions aren't great. However if you're craving Taiwanese style street food and fried pork chops then Kingchops is the place to go! the food is super balanced with all the classics of street fare of Taiwanese food. I was really excited about this place when I saw the pictures and when my friend recommended it. As soon as I got there, the place was packed and nowhere to sit so I had to wait a little while, maybe 10 minutes. There was only one lady working so she was busy for sure and this place wasn't big either. As soon as I got a table I was still waiting for my friend. You had to scan a QR code for the menu. When my friend finally showed up, we decided on the pork chop rice and the spicy wontons. But we didn't know we were supposed to order through the phone. We kept waiting and waiting and the waitress wasn't asking us anything so I looked at my phone and figured out that that's what we were supposed to do. We both got the pork chop rice which is a good portion size and the rice with the egg and the other ingredients. I was a little disappointed because it wasn't crispy all around, there were some parts that were a little soggy so I didn't like that part. And the rice was a little too mushy for me. The spicy wontons were also just okay, I always seem to compare it to Din Tai Dung and it definitely wasn't even close to that. But even if it didn't taste like that and it tasted different, then I would still appreciate it but I just didn't think there was a lot of flavor to these one. So overall, place is constantly busy so be prepared to wait and I just wish the pork chops were a little more crispier. read more

I'd been craving Taiwanese food for a hot minute, so my husband and I came here for dinner. I'm so happy that Kingchops exceeded my expectations! Here's everything we ordered: -pork chop rice entree -spicy beef noodle soup -popcorn chicken -wonton soup (as a side) -herbal chicken soup (as a side) My absolute favorite Taiwanese dish is pork chop rice, and the pork chop here was tender and flavorful with the right amount of crisp. I also appreciated all the vegetables and sides it came with. The popcorn chicken made me feel like I was back at a Taiwanese night market, and the herbal chicken soup... wow! It's literally the way my mom makes chicken soup, right down to the gogi berries. Both soup sides were comforting and exactly what I was hoping for. The wonton soup came with 5 giantic wontons, and the chicken soup came with so much chicken. They're a steal at $8 each! We got the regular pork chop rice for to-go. There's a little bit of minced pork on top of the rice, pickled sour mustard vegetable, 1/2 tea egg, stir-fried cabbage, and glass noodles. Overall, everything tastes delicious and the portion is very filling! Will come back for more pork chop and try other dishes too. Tip: If you got it to-go and you want to make it crispy again, I would recommend you to air fry it at 375F for 5 minutes and it will be perfect! Do you ever want to feel like you're related to Jay Chou, the Taiwanese sensation of the century? Then you want to come to Kingchops. This Taiwanese cuisine establishment will throw you into the deep end of Taipei. You know how the Jungle Cruise gives you a taste of the jungle? Well Kingchops will put you on a plane, staple your eyes open and send you into the streets of Taipei. The food comes out hot and fresh ready for consumption. I couldn't stop myself from experiencing all The different flavors this place has to offer. Also, if you like stinky tofu, theirs is the strongest, we didn't order it, we just smelled. Check your bill!!! This is probably the sneakiest, most dishonest business practice I've ever seen for a restaurant. The food was ok, we all had a ok time, then the bill came... First they automatically imposed a 15% tip (listed as "Gratuity"). I saw that, thinking..alright, I have a problem with mandatory tip for a party of 3, but fine, I'll pay 15%. I would've pay 18% if they didn't force me to pay 15%. So then I was ready to check the 15% tip box and be done with. But wait! How is a total of $64 bill plus a 15% gratuity around $9 bucks add up to $82.58??!! It should only be around $73. Then it dawned on me...Are you kidding me?! You are actually trying to charge me double tip?! I don't know how many people got tricked this way and just check the box and paid, but ya'll just paid 30% tip without knowing!!! Not cool, Kingchops, NOT COOL. Responding to owner: first, I didn't do anything with my phone to add 15% gratuity, only ordered my food as the waitress instructed me to do. Second, even if this is truly a misunderstanding (as most restaurant owners always blame on the "Automatic POS system", can't do anything about it...) you would think now is the time to fix the problem so your customers don't fall for the mistake and "falsely accuse you" again? Or are you completely satisfied that your customers occasionally overpay? Last, I am not writing anything that isn't true, far from defaming your restaurant. This is what happened to me, with receipt to prove. And if this is your attitude after finding out your system has a problem, then I restate what I said again, CHECK. YOUR. BILL. Amendment to Review: Please read the other one star customer review, someone who got charged double tips 3 TIMES! This is not a problem the owner intend to fix. He is perfectly happy over charging his customers. First time, may be an overlook, second time, maybe laziness, third time? hardly an accident, one can even argue intentional. The owner contacted me directly after reading my review, he informed me that I am an ill spirit, entitled customer who is out to defame his restaurant. He said, and I quote "If you feel the bill is misleading, I think that's a "you" problem" . There you have it, folks! Ordered pork chop rice Kingchops is a hole in the wall Taiwanese restaurant in Irvine that specializes in pork chops. I typically order the pork chop rice, but if you're not feeling pork, then the chicken leg rice is also super good. The portions are super generous and I enjoy the variety of side dishes with each meal. The pork is super juicy and tender and also slightly crisp for that perfect balance. This is a great place to stop by for lunch as the service is pretty quick too. If you like crispiness and juiciness of popcorn chicken, I would definitely recommend coming here and trying their pork chop! read more
