King chops is one of those places that you just have to stop by when in Irvine. The food never disappoints! They have the absolute best pork chops ever - they're juicy AND crispy at the same time. Most places can't get both of those right. The interior has potential to be really nice but they have a lot of storage making it seem a bit cramped and messy. But hey, it's always the restaurants with quirky interiors that have the best food. Service was quick and you don't have too much interaction with the workers. We are back to this famous Taiwanese joint, first time after COVID. Not too many people dining in today, but non-stop traffic for online & phone orders for food to-go. Kingchops offers contactless menu for ordering or you can order in person. They added a few appetizers to the menu. I noticed their prices have gone up since my last visit. Andy brought us complimentary seaweed & egg flower soup while we waited for our orders. The porkchop rice came quickly, even before the appetizer. I enjoyed the spicy beef noodle soup I ordered. Everything were served in disposable containers, a sign of COVID era we are in. Serving size is generous, very fulfilling. I'm not a Taiwanese food expert but I wanted to give it a try again. I've had this dish in another place many years ago and it was good but I was a little underwhelmed at this place. The pork chop wasn't as crispy as expected. The minced pork was pretty small and I was expecting the stinky tofu side but it came with corn. It wasn't bad, just average. You order from your phone and there is no real table service. The ambiance is modern and clean however the shelved storage up against where the cash register would be is a bit unsightly. The free jasmine tea that I received with my Yelp checkin was surprisingly good. When I inquired about the free tea, the server had to look closely at my phone as if he didn't know about the existence of the offer. He kindly brought the Jasmine tea however. read more

Delicious Taiwanese meal! We were originally going to try a different Taiwanese place (A&J) but the line there was way too long, so we came to Kingchop instead. And I'm glad we did! The servings are huge and the food is served quickly. Our server was very kind and the restaurant space was cute with plenty of space to sit (no wait time as it seems a lot of people get takeout). Saw this place on Yelp and was pretty hype to try it out! Went here on a weekday lunch and parking seems to be pretty limited. There's hella business around so that might be why. I place my order for their signature fried pork chop rice online so all I needed to do was pick it up! Overall the fried pork chop rice was good, but not what I expected. First off, because I took it to go, the fried pork chops started going soft because of the steam. So really wish I could've try it hot right out of the fryer. If you take this to go, make sure to open up their packaging to let out all that hot air!! The fried pork chop rice came in a set with rice, some ground pork, some garlic seasoned vegetables, and a side of tofu + egg. Didn't look like it was that much, but by the end of it, I was stuffed! The vegetables were soft, the rice was fluffy, and everything seemed to paired well with the pork chop. However when I came here to try their pork chop it was seasoned like I was expecting. I was expecting like a powerful mix of spices, like you'd see on popcorn chicken at tea shops. But taste wise, it tasted like pork with some acidity. Hard to pinpoint exactly what the flavor was, but it wasn't spice. However the pork itself was tender, and, despite the container it came with, there were still some crispy parts! Their service was amazing today, as the worker came by often to make sure if we need any sauce or water.
