Highlights: - crossing the bridge noodles - garlic pork ribs - seafood egg tofu pot - snakehead fish with pickled vegetables - eggplant - side dishes from the deli counter (pig ears, mushroom, tripe) - brown sugar rose jelly dessert that you can grab on your own. Very refreshing if you ordered a lot of spicy dishes Only note I have is that some dishes aren't always consistent. Like the pork ribs were definitely less meaty before compared to the most recent time. And that the smoked duck this time was a little more dry and less meaty too. Food: - Steamed fish with tofu was our favorite dish! The fish was QQ texture and fresh. It compliments well with the soft tofu and light soy and ginger sauce. Smoked duck was flavorful but slightly fattier than last time. Cumin lamb - ok, lamb cubes were cut too large and thick. Lack of lamb flavor. Food from northern part of China called Yunnan. The food is very different from your typical Chinese restaurant and the spice level is different. The spice was numbing but it was addicting. The food was great! There is a lot of food. If you have a large party, there is a separate room that can fit 9 comfortably in a circular table. And they have 2 of these rooms. Yunnan offers authentic Chinese food - all the dishes were delicious and of large portion. The beef noodle is a bit spicy but the seafood tofu clay pot was outstanding. The staff does not interact much other than delivering of the food but he was friendly and helpful. Ambiance is surprisingly luxurious and comfortable. First time visiting this new place in Lake Forest. In general, we've found restaurants in Lake Forest to be overrated and most of the time we leave underwhelmed despite high yelp ratings. So much so that I chalk it up to a low standard that the local residents have for ethnic food in particular. All that to say, that I was surprised to find this place to be authentic and a decent dining experience. I came around 2pm on a Saturday and was a bit surprised to find the place full with about half a dozen parties on the waiting list AND most parties were Chinese. This place must be legit :). We were seated at a small table and I was pleased to see that they offered me a larger table to give me more space. Most Chinese places won't offer this courtesy. The decor and ambiance is modern and the seating was comfortable. The cauliflower dry pot was served in a large sterno heated dish. It was a larger portion that I expected. We asked for mild but the dish still has a bit of heat to it. The pork noodle soup was pretty good as well. I like the al dente rice noodles that they they call "cross-the-bridge-noodles". My wife prefers the noodle at Noodology in Irvine which she claims are springier. read more

We had lunch here the other day. There is plenty of parking available. The decor is simple and there is plenty of seating inside. We ordered a number of dishes. We started with the fried rice cakes. The rice cakes had a mochi-like texture. And mixed with the black bean sauce, vegetables and various types of meat made it a must-have dish. We also ordered the xiao long bao. They were warm and delicious. The crossing-over-bridge noodles were next. The "Chinese pho" was amazing, from its presentation to the flavors. I loved the rice noodles and the rich, flavorful broth. The braised pork with buns was next. The pork belly literally melted in my mouth the buns were warm and sweet. Just perfect and I could have eaten the entire plate by myself. Last but not least, the smoked duck was easily the star of the show. While I loved everything, the smokiness of the duck was something I couldn't stop eating. Located in a decently busy shopping center. We went right at opening, after being there for a little bit, it got decently busy! The inside is decorated beautifully, there's some plants at the entrance, as well as some amazing artwork. Service was great, our server made sure to guide us to the best food options for us! They were really nice and made sure we got what we needed! What we Ordered: Yunnan Noodles in Chick and Pork Broth with Bones: This was super refreshing, the broth was light but flavorful. The additions just enhanced the experience. Yunnan Style Fried Rice Cakes: These were so good, honestly this plus the duck would be great! Szechuan Braised Pork with 8 Buns: These, oh my goodness, it bursts with flavor, the right amount of saltiness. Szechuan Smoked Duck: I just wanted this with some rice and be on with my day. First time here with my asian lunch bunch. We got seated right away (11:45a) but it filled up over time telling us that it's already a popular place. The menu is extensive with lots of noodle, soup, rice and protein options. They have a chilled food table where you can choose various organ meats, chix feet and veggie options too which I've never seen before. We got the 3 item with marinated spicy cukes, bamboo shoots and foojook (beancurd sheets) & celery salads to split. They were so good! Highly recommend the garlic pork ribs and string beans and pork. We got the bamboo shoot and braised beef noodle soup and it is SPICY! So beware of that. We saw this new Chinese restaurant open and wanted to give it a try. When we walked in, it was pretty full and all the customers were Chinese which is a good sign it's truly authentic! We didn't know this is a chain that came from SGV which made it even more legit. This place is authentic and is not for those who are not comfortable with authentic Chinese cuisine that uses different offal parts. We ordered the Yunnan noodles and its literal translation means crossing bridge noodles. We didn't expect it to be actually served on a bridge serveware that came with different ingredients such as fish, quail eggs and other items. The soup base is chicken broth and the noodles were big enough to share between 4 of us. We loved the presentation of the crossing bridge noodles. I also loved the cold appetizer station where we can choose 3 items. We picked a spicy chicken dish, beef lungs, and chicken gizzards and they were all spicy and flavorful. We also ordered a spicy dry pot of pork intestines that came with many vegetables such as potatoes and other veggies. We enjoyed the spice level as well. We ordered the xlb for the kids, although it is not that soupy, it does come with a lot of meat and it is moist so my kids liked it. Our last dish is spicy stir fried kidneys dish which they prepped it perfectly with good amount of heat and spice. If it's not prepared correctly this dish can come out tasting gamey but they did a great job executing it, I did not taste any gaminess. The decor is modern and clean, the wait staff was very attentive, refilling our water often and always getting items we asked for for us. We loved the self service dessert station where they had 3 different types of sweet soup - a silver ear soup, a red bean soup with purple rice and a black sugar jelly soup. A lovely Chinese restaurant in Lake Forest. It's Yunnan cuisine which is like southern China. Their noodles are very good. The noodle portion is very large; for $15 a bowl, it can feed three of me. The servers are friendly. We ordered the meat wrap, which the server told us later that it's the most popular amongst non-Chinese customers. We laughed so much because that's our favorite dish. My second time here but first time dining in. Had the Crossing the Bridge Noodles (noodles in pork broth). Decent but slightly on the blander side so I wouldn't order it if you're looking for spice. I hate it when a restaurant is not giving a cozy family vibe. We wanted to try the 'bridge noodle' that was pictured in many of the reviews. We were given the option to have the server put all the ingredients into the broth or we do it ourselves. We opted to do it ourselves and the server did mentioned you should put them in quickly while the broth was hot. My kid was very excited about how she could pick and choose her ingredients to put into the soup. Little do we know that 10 seconds later another server came by and put all the ingredients into the broth. My kid was sad. Just warning other parents if your kid is thinking about making your own noodle. Totally fine, but we just didn't know the process. Otherwise the restaurant is nice and modern. Portion is huge. I haven't had the pleasure of writing a five star review in a while and this was a pleasant surprise. I'll not mince words. Everything was on point! I ordered five dishes and all five were great. The flavors were great, the textures were great, the temperatures were great--even the service was great. And per Chinese restaurant tradition, the dishes arrived very fast. As others have mentioned, the portion sizes were generous. I was full at the end of the night and still had a little bit leftover to take home. To cap off the meal, there's a light, cool dessert that pairs well with the series of spicy entrees. The chef really knows how to play your taste buds like a symphony. The restaurant is mostly factory chic with a few touches of elegance. It's nice to see a Chinese restaurant that celebrates and takes pride in its Chinese culture. Just observe the wall decor and you'll see what I mean. It's so wonderful to have an authentic Chinese restaurant here in South Orange County. Today I try to dine in one hour before they close and the waiter refuse to serve us, claiming they have cleaning work to do at 8:30 and all kinds of excuses refuse to serve us. This restaurant does not have a last call time and when I ask what's your last call time, the waiter start acting hostile and said if you have to eat we can let you eat. At that point I already felt unsafe to eat here, I felt that I'm being threatened cuz the way he talk. If I came in before last call time I should have the rights to dine in, we were really polite expressed the idea we came from far place and we'll eat fast and offered I will leave extra tips(more than 20%). I've been here more than 10 times, and for their other locations in San Gabriel and China town I've been a customer since 2014 which was 12 years ago. I am a Chinese when someone criticize our culture and people I will always come to defend for my people, but this time it's is very hard for me to say this type of stuff only happen in a Chinese restaurant the waiters just try to leave early very unprofessional. We had the fresh pork noodle soup (extra pickled mustard greens = so good!) and tofu pudding noodles -- silky, unique, and delicious. Noticed this new restaurant last week, and had to come try it out. Being that co workers and I all love spicy food, we immediately decided to try it out this week. We arrived here around 11:30 am on a Monday and parking was plentiful. We were greeted as soon as we entered and were seated right away. Their menu is huge! And might I add, it was 2 sided + an added menu with specials. No worries though - we were hungry and ordered quickly - and off to the front to order our cold dishes! Our picks: Cold dishes: Shredded Potatoes, Spicy Pig Ears, Chinese Chili Sauce Braised Beef. Everything was delicious with just the right amount of spice - not too spicy- not too salty. Perfect. Hot dishes: Stir Fried String Beans, Spicy Boiled Fish with Tofu, Chongqing Fried Chicken Cube with Hot Pepper, Cauliflower with Pork Dry Pot. All these dishes - the spice was on point (minus the string beans haha). I loved every single one of these dishes and would love to come back for more. To pick a favorite between these would be too difficult as I really enjoyed all of them. And, bonus! They have a self serve FREE! Dessert station! They have warm sago dessert soup and cold jelly noodle soup. Next to the two dessert soups, they also have oranges and watermelon. I'm not sure if these will change depending on season but, that was def a nice addition to the restaurant experience. Will I be back?! Absolutely. So glad another good restaurant opened up in Lake Forest area! If you love spicy food too, definitely check this place out. It's great to see more Chinese restaurants opening in Lake Forest! Yun Nan is one of the latest and can be found off El Toro Road. We visited on a Wednesday during the dinner hour, and I was surprised at how busy they were...good for them! Their menu is extensive, so be prepared to be overwhelmed by all their offerings. Their signature entree is the Yunnan Noodle in Chicken Broth with Bone and IMO the presentation exceeds the flavor. The Chinese Cold Appetizers (choose up to 3), Shredded Pork with Belong Special Sauce, Garlic Pork Ribs, and Crispy Fried Chicken dishes were delicious and I would recommend them. The only miss was the Wonton with Chili Sauce. They also have a refrigerator stocked with canned and bottled beverages. Best of all, they have a complimentary self-service dessert bar! On the first day of the restaurant, the waiters were busy so no one came to change the plates or refill the water, but that's not usually a neighborhood Chinese restaurant's specialty. I loved the Yunnan crossing bridge rice noodles. It comes in a warm pot and you put the ingredients in when you're ready to eat. Super authentic and delicious. However, the tasty dishes ends there. Everything else we ordered (baked fish, cumin lamb) were incredibly oily and spicy but somehow missing flavor. The pea sprouts were decent. Service was almost nonexistent as soon as your food comes out and the tables too small for the huge plates they use to present their food. +1 point for the free bing fen dessert that is self-serve. I wasn't sure what to expect with these polarizing Yelp reviews but a friend of ours in the area recommended the place so we gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised honestly and would come back again. It's nice that South OC finally has a very authentic Chinese restaurant and at least when we were there, it wasn't incredibly busy (Saturday afternoon). The prices are pretty competitive with other Chinese restaurants in Irvine - South OC but the portions are pretty hefty. Many of the tables ended up with food to go, including ours. You order using a QR code but they do have an outdated paper menu available. There's a cold bar with vegetarian and meat sides, including pig ears, spicy cucumbers, (white) chicken feet, and pickled vegetables. You can order a sampler of three items and they really load up the serving dishes. The fried noodles definitely had the taste of "wok hei" and the chicken in it was seasoned well (likely with five spice). We tried the chef's special of boiled beef in Sichuan sauce and it was exactly that - boiled thinly sliced beef with Napa cabbage in a watery spicy broth. We did mild spicy and you definitely got the numbing heat but it's otherwise mild as stated. There were other more common options such as broccoli beef, beef noodle soup and sautéed string beans so if you're bringing less adventurous eaters there are more familiar dishes. The sweets bar included oranges and watermelon plus three cold options. There are no labels but I'm pretty sure the options we had included egg pudding and aiyu jelly. If you come after the lunch rush, they don't refresh the bar so if it runs out, it runs out. By the time we got up for sweets, the egg pudding was basically gone as was the watermelon. I saw multiple reviews complaining about the service but our service was great. Honestly I've received worse/less attentive service at other South OC places, including Ma's House and Asian Kitchen. The servers understood and spoke English well enough that we were able to understand them just fine and they were all very kind and quick to bring us extra utensils, paper menus, etc and clarify any concerns about a dish. The ambiance was fine too. There is a private room for slightly larger parties and the dining chairs are shockingly comfortable. There's even a water station at the front if you do have to wait for a table. read more

This was one of the best places I've eaten at in a while. The ambiance was welcoming, service was quick yet personable, and the food was so delicious yet not expensive. That 3 item combo in particular is a great deal. I give high marks for the number of choices, the freshness, and oh yes, taste. Located in a popular strip mall of Lake Forest, this restaurant is a fantastic addition to a location that is already teeming with excellent food options. It gets quite popular, but they do allow you to leave your name at the door and visit the many stores nearby, which can minimize the pain of waiting for a table. The food here is excellent, but pricey, so just know that, while the food is more expensive than standard Chinese food--you get what you pay for. They have a cold bar with many standard options, such as spicy pig ear with mala pepper, or tofu and mushrooms, and they provide you with a complimentary sampling of 3 items from the cold bar (they choose) after you order. But you can order a la carte for the other options. They also have a dessert bar with a few standard Chinese dessert options, such as sliced oranges, sago pudding, or red bean pudding. We started off with the signature Yunnan noodles, which was to die for. The broth is full of flavor without being too heavy, and the noodles have soaked in the flavor of the broth, which is a layered concoction of cold, blanched noodles instantly heated by the hot, complex broth. They bring out this cute replica of the Yunnan bridge and throw it all together at your table (if your table is large enough) or at a neighboring table if you're limited on space. The soup also has bits of green onion and fish to add some flavor. The pineapple fried rice is surprisingly tasty, served in an actual pineapple with a square of aluminum foil placed between the pineapple shell/skin and the rice to hold it in place. It's flavorful, fluffy, and light, and is excellent to pair with their other dishes. We paired it with fried fish and string beans. The Pepper Salt Fish Fillet was light and crunchy, which an extra dash of fried garlic bits to give it some extra crunch. We also tried the Salted Garlic Pea Leaves, which were crunchy and savory, and also went well with their spicy house chili crisp. Our two-year old absolutely *loved* the soup, slurping and smacking away at it, and also thoroughly enjoyed the watermelon and orange slices from the dessert bar. All in all an excellent restaurant. I was surprised to order only 4 dishes, and have each one be a success at a price point that is not that much more expensive than other Chinese restaurant offerings. We came back and tried different food. Their pork belly, beef broccoli, cumin lamb, and fish soup were also good. The restaurant has been busy since last month, wonder if that's because their jello dessert was back, . Service was very good and it's a big restaurant so you don't have to wait to get a table.
